Parashat 3- Portion 11 – Beresheet/Gen 14:1-24

                                                                                                        Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah
YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

In the book of Yasher we have some interesting background information concerning this week’s Torah portion. The book of Yasher is referred to twice in our scriptures; once in Joshua 10:13 and once in 2Samuel 1:18 (“it is written in the book of Yasher”…..) and therefore can be considered a fairly reliable source of information.

Quote from Yasher chapter 16 verses 1-8.

“1 At that time Chedorlaomer king of Elam sent to all the neighboring kings, to Nimrod, king of Shinar who was then under his power, and to Tidal, king of Goyim, and to Arioch, king of Elasar, with whom he made a covenant, saying, Come up to me and assist me, that we may smite all the towns of Sodom and its inhabitants, for they have rebelled against me these thirteen years.”

The midrash identifies Chedorlomer as Elam, son of Shem, son of Noach. Chedorlomer appeared to be the leader of the alliance which included king Nimrod (Amraphel).
Shem is also identified to be the righteous king of Yerushalyim (Melchizidek) that Avram meets after his miraculous victory over the kings.
Note also how Shem’s descendant Chedorlomer has also become a king ruling over people like Nimrod. Shem however is the leader of a set apart people whose descendants will eventually bring forth the Messiah.
Religious tyranny is most probably more enslaving than civil tyranny.

“2 And these four kings went up with all their camps, about eight hundred thousand men, and they went as they were, and smote every man they found in their road.
3 And the five kings of Sodom and Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, Bera king of Sodom, Bersha king of Gomorrah, and Bela king of Zoar, went out to meet them, and they all joined together in the valley of Siddim.
4 And these nine kings made war in the valley of Siddim; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah were smitten before the kings of Elam.
5 And the valley of Siddim was full of lime pits and the kings of Elam pursued the kings of Sodom, and the kings of Sodom with their camps fled and fell into the lime pits, and all that remained went to the mountain for safety, and the five kings of Elam came after them and pursued them to the gates of Sodom, and they took all that there was in Sodom.
6 And they plundered all the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and they also took Lot, Abram's brother's son, and his property, and they seized all the goods of the cities of Sodom, and they went away; and Unic Abram's servant, who was in the battle, saw this, and told Abram all that the kings had done to the cities of Sodom, and that Lot was taken captive by them.
7 And Abram heard this, and he rose up with about three hundred and eighteen men that were with him, and he that night pursued these kings and smote them, and they all fell before Abram and his men, and there was none remaining but the four kings who fled, and they went each his own road.
8 And Abram recovered all the property of Sodom, and he also recovered Lot and his property, his wives and little ones and all belonging to him, so that Lot lacked nothing.” (Excerpt out of the book of Yasher)

Let us consider the significance of Abram’s servant Eliezer, this name in Hebrew has a gematria of 318. Vs 7 states that there were 318 servants who miraculously defeated the army of 800 000 men.

Eliezer whose name means “Elohim is my helper”; this reminds of the description given to the Ruach (Spirit) of YHVH in Yoch/John 16:7.
This Torah portion also reminds us of the miraculous events that are celebrated at Chanukah and also remind us that when the Ruach of YHVH empowers us we are able to do “all things” through him who enables us.

When we consider the events of Shavout/Pentecost and the outpouring of the Ruach we understand that the Ruach of YHVH can only be effectively contained in Torah observant clay vessels. The continual infilling of His Ruach are extremely important to accomplish the purposes of YHVH on earth as well as for our spiritual well-being and victory in this life.

Yoch/Joh 16:7  “But I say the truth to you. It is better for you that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you at all, but if I go, I shall send Him to you.
Joh 16:8  “And having come, He shall reprove1 the world concerning sin,2 and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment – Footnotes: 1Or confute or prove wrong. 22 Chr. 24:20, Neh. 9:30, Ezek. 36:27, Mic. 3:8, Acts 28:25-27.
Joh 16:9  concerning sin because they do not believe in Me,
Joh 16:10  concerning righteousness because I go to My Father and you see Me no more,
Joh 16:11  concerning judgment because the ruler of this world1 is judged. Footnote: 1See Lk. 4:6.
Joh 16:12  “I still have many words to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.
Joh 16:13  “But when He comes, the Spirit of the Truth, He shall guide you into all the truth. For He shall not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears He shall speak, and He shall announce to you what is to come.
Joh 16:14  “He shall esteem Me, for He shall take of what is Mine and announce it to you.

Parashat 3 -Lech Lecha - Portion 10

Beresheet/Gen 12:1-13:18

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.
Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

“Lech lecha” or “walk on your own behalf” – is both a command and our decision to obey His commandments. We have a choice. Are we going to come out of all forms of idolatry and embrace YHVH’s Torah/Covenant with all our hearts or are we going to continue to make excuses and compromise our obedience to His Torah. For some there is no turning back; others do turn back, there is still a call going out to the masses of humanity to come out of the defilement of mediocrity and complacency and to enter into the covenant with the Elohim of Yisrael  and worship and serve Him as the scriptures instruct us.

Many people are undecided and are sitting on the fence, they are lukewarm. This is an extremely dangerous position.

Rev 3:16  “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.

I believe most of us don’t fully realize how deeply rooted we are in “Babylonian” thinking and culture. This past week we attended a Chanukah celebration and there was also a birthday celebration of one of the children; after the traditional singing of the “happy birthday song” there was a loud and spontaneous cry “hip hip hoeray” from the guests. Do we even know what these words mean and where they came from?

The word "hip" comes from Latin. It was originally HEP! HEP!

HEP is an acronym:
Hierosolyma” (Yerushalayim) “Est” (is) “Perdita” (destroyed). It has its dark origins in the period from 117-138 AD and returned centuries later (in the eleventh century) with the crusaders from Europe to Jerusalem but we will not go into it now.

I do not say this to bring any kind of condemnation but just to remind ourselves how unaware we are of how much we are influenced by the spirit of this world.

I also remind you that there is no condemnation for those who joined together with Messiah.
We must not forget that ignorance carries a severe penalty.

Hos 4:6  “My people have perished for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being priest for Me. Since you have forgotten the Torah of your Elohim, I also forget your children.

In this section of the Torah we have a model; a kind of prototype of how we come out of the spirit of this world.

Rom 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

Parashat 2 Portion 9 Gen 11:1-32

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to.
Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

This section recounts the story of the Tower of Bavel/Babel. Noach's descendants gathered in the Babylonian valley and started building a tower, in an attempt to “reach the heavens” – attempting to be like YHVH. However YHVH disrupted their "plan" by causing them each to speak a different language, thus destroying their communications. This caused them to disperse and settle in different lands. The Torah then lists the ten generations of Shem's descendants  The tenth generation is Avram/Abram (later to be known as Avraham/Abraham), who married Sarai (later to be known as Sarah).

Once again the Torah calls us to deep reflection and searching of its message and instruction to those who are seekers after the truth.

It is generally accepted by scholars and historians that Nimrod was the architect and builder of the tower of Babel.

Gen 10:8  And Kush brought forth Nimroḏ, he began to be a mighty one on the earth.
Gen 10:9  He was a mighty hunter before יהוה, therefore it is said, “Like Nimroḏ the mighty hunter before יהוה.”  (Against YHVH)

What we see here is the beginnings of man- made religion seeking to “reach the heavens” through its own schemes and devices.

“Until Nimrod, mankind was governed by the patriarchal system where the heads of families heard from YHVH and guided their individual tribes. Nimrod, more accurately a "mighty hunter against YHVH," usurped patriarchal rule, and crowned himself the first human king in all of history. Now man ruled instead of YHVH”
“Nimrod’s greed and ambition led him to sell himself to demonic powers, and he became the high priest of devil worship. During this time Nimrod married the beautiful and cunning, but notoriously immoral, Semiramis. Together they ruled the world.”
"Semiramis became known as the "queen of heaven," and was the prototype from which all other pagan goddesses came."--World Religions by David Terrell

This is one of the reasons we prefer to call the days of the week after their Hebrew names, and so avoid invoking the names of the pagan deities from which the names of the days of the week originate. “Monday” for example comes from the moon goddess because it is said in: Shemot/Exodus 23:13: and in all things that I have said to you take heed: and make no mention of other elohim, neither let it be heard out of your mouth. See also Debarim/Deut 12:3,  Yehoshua/Joshua 23:6, Tehillim/Psa 16:4, Zecharia 13:2, Hosea 2:17, Zep 3:9.
In fact, the English language is full of the names of other false elohim (mighty ones translated as gods), yet for the sake of not overwhelming our readers, let us just focus on the days of the week and how by speaking them all the time, the names of false elohim are spoken.
  • The first day of the week is called “Sunday,” a name that gives honour to the ancient Sun god.
  • The second day of the week is called “Monday,” a name that honours the Moon god.
  • The third day of the week is called “Tuesday,” a name that honours the Norse god of war, Tiu.
  • The fourth day is called “Wednesday,” a name that gives honour to Woden [Odin],
              the chief Norse god.
  • The fifth day is called “Thursday” and  gives honour to Thor, the Norse god of thunder and son of Woden and Frigga.
  • The sixth day, called ‘Friday” gives honour to Freya, also known as Frigga, the wife of Woden and female god of love and beauty.
  • Finally, in lieu of the Sabbath, the name “Saturday” gives honour to Saturn, the Roman god of agriculture.
On the other hand, all throughout Scripture, the days of the week are counted just like they are in Bereshit/Genesis 1. They are known by their “ordinal numbers.”
The first day of the week is Yom Rishon (Day one).
The second day is Yom Sheni (Day two)).
The third day is Yom Shelishi (Day three).
The fourth day is Yom Revi’i (Day four).
The fifth day is Yom Chamishi (the "ch" is a guttural sound like "goed" in Afrikaans (Day five)).
The sixth day is Yom Shishi (Day six).
And the seventh day is Yom Shevi’i or the Shabbat (Sabbath) (Day seven).
Whether in Hebrew or English, this naming system remembers the act of creation and, therefore, it honours the Creator – not the creation. It leads us to the climax of the week, the seventh day Sabbath.

Even the Gregorian calendar names for the months  from January up to August are the names of the months that are associated with certain false mighty ones/elohim (false gods) or personalities, whereas the last four simply come from Latin origins to indicate the order (number) in which it appeared in the old Roman calendar. It is thus okay to speak the names of these four months (Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec) which are not names of false mighty ones when we speak in the Gregorian calendar frame work.

"Nimrod and his mother (Semiramis) became the chief entities of worship as a Madonna and child. This belief and practice spread to Egypt, where the names of the gods were Isis and Osiris.
The son Osiris was born December 25. In Asia it was Cybele and Deonius. In Rome they were called Fortuna and Jupiter. Throughout the world we still find the remnants of mother and child worship to this day. It is no surprise that this same system still exists at the end of the age. It is called "Mystery Babylon" (Rev 17:5). Shockingly, it is disguised as Christianity and is still practiced in the celebration of Christmas." --The Bible as History by Werner Keller
Muslims, like Catholics, refer to her as Our Lady (Sayyida). She is also venerated as a pure and set apart saint in the Islamic world.

Yirmeyahu/Jer 7:17  “Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Yehuḏah and in the streets of Yerushalayim?
Jer 7:18  “The children are gathering wood, the fathers are lighting the fire, and the women are kneading their dough, to make cakes for the sovereigness of the heavens (queen of the heavens), and to pour out drink offerings to other mighty ones, to provoke Me.

Yir/Jer 44:16  “We are not going to listen to you in the matter about which you spoke to us in the Name of יהוה!
Jer 44:17  “But we shall do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the sovereigness of the heavens (queen of the heavens) and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our sovereigns and our heads, in the cities of Yehuḏah and in the streets of Yerushalayim. And we had plenty of food, and were well-off, and saw no evil.
Jer 44:18  “But since we ceased burning incense to the sovereigness of the heavens and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all and have been consumed by the sword and by scarcity of food. (This demonic force obviously has power)
Jer 44:19  “And when we burned incense to the sovereigness of the heavens and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make cakes for her, to idolize her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”
Jer 44:20  Then Yirmeyahu spoke to all the people – to the men and to the women, and to all the people who had given him that answer, saying,
Jer 44:21  “As for the incense that you burned in the cities of Yehuḏah and in the streets of Yerushalayim, you and your fathers, your sovereigns and your heads, and the people of the land, did not יהוה remember them? And it came into His heart!
Jer 44:22  “And יהוה could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your deeds and because of the abominations which you did. Therefore your land is a ruin, an object of astonishment, a curse, and without an inhabitant, as it is this day.
Jer 44:23  “Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against יהוה, and did not obey the voice of יהוה or walk in His Torah, in His laws or in His witnesses, therefore this evil did befall you, as at this day.”

Rev 17:4  And the woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup filled with abominations and the filthiness of her whoring,1 Footnote: 1Jer. 51:7.
Rev 17:5  and upon her forehead a name written, a secret: BAḆEL THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE WHORES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Rev 17:6  And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the set-apart ones, and with the blood of the witnesses of יהושע. And having seen her, I marvelled – greatly marvelled!
Rev 17:7  And the messenger said to me, “Why did you marvel? Let me explain to you the secret of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and the ten horns……

Rev 18:1  And after this I saw another messenger coming down from the heaven, having great authority, and the earth was lightened from his esteem.
Rev 18:2  And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, “Baḇel the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, and a haunt for every unclean and hated bird,
Rev 18:3  because all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her whoring, and the sovereigns of the earth have committed whoring with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the power of her riotous living.”
Rev 18:4  And I heard another voice from the heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.1 Footnote: 1Jer. 51:6 & 45. (Emphasis my own)
Rev 18:5  “Because her sins have piled up to reach the heaven, and Elohim has remembered her unrighteousnesses.

Teaching:
Gen 11:1  And all the earth had one language1 and one speech. Footnote: 1Hebrew lip
Gen 11:2  And it came to be, as they set out from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shin’ar1, and they dwelt there. Footnote: 1Earlier name for Baḇel

א וַיְהִי כָל-הָאָרֶץ, שָׂפָה אֶחָת, וּדְבָרִים, אֲחָדִים.

Lit. the whole earth had one lip and one set of words. The sages believe that this language was Hebrew.
In the last days we believe this one pure language or lip will be restored to bring about the restoration of all things.

Zep 3:9  “For then I shall turn unto the peoples a clean lip1, so that they all call on the Name of יהוה, to serve Him with one shoulder. Footnote: 1Or language.

Gen 11:3  And they said to each other, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
Gen 11:4  And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens, and make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over all the face of the earth.”
Gen 11:5  Then יהוה came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
Gen 11:6  And יהוה said, “Look, they are one people and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do! And now, they are not going to be withheld from doing whatever they plan to do.
Gen 11:7  “Come, let Us go there and confuse their language, so that they do not understand one another’s speech.”
Gen 11:8  And יהוה scattered them from there, over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.
Gen 11:9  That is why its name was called Baḇel1, because there יהוה confused the language of all the earth, and from there יהוה scattered them over the face of all the earth. Footnote: 1Baḇel is derived from a verb which means “to confuse".

Today we see an enormous division among the people of the world caused largely by religious differences. We even see these differences within certain religions. It is said that there are over 5000 different Christian church denominations. We also note major differences within Islam and even Judaism.
In these verses we find the seminal idea of a one world religion – uniting all its members is the common cause of defying the Elohim of Yisrael and His Torah.

“Plans were made for a grand tower, a massive type of building called a ziggurat, which consisted of a series of terraced platforms, each smaller than the one below it, and all together reaching a great height. At the top would be a shrine to Bel, whom they worshiped as 'the Most High god', the god of the sun and of fire; other 'sky gods' would also be included. Therefore, Genesis 11:4, in speaking of "a tower and his top with the heavens (literal translation)," is not referring to the height of the tower, but instead to the inscriptions of the stars on the walls of the shrine. The constellations were there, but with outlines of the 'sky gods' on them in order to cause people to associate the 'pictures in the sky' that they had known about from childhood, with the images Nimrod wanted them to worship. This is indicative of the occult deception which reigned in Babylon.”
This confusion reigns even in our day. One of the common misconceptions amongst religious people is that we all serve the same “God.”

Let it be clearly stated for the record that the author of this message believes very strongly that there is only One way to serve the true Elohim of Yisrael and that is by acknowledging that there is only One Mediator between men and YHVH, His only brought forth son “Yahshua ha Mashiach.” (1Tim 2:5 “For there is one Elohim, and one Mediator between Elohim and men, the Man Messiah Yahshua.”)

Sadly the church and society have misrepresented Yahshua. Once again the author of this message strongly believes that this Yahshua was a Jewish teacher/rabbi who came and will come again to gather the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael  to teach and restore the Torah of YHVH.

Let us compare the two kinds of spirituality practiced by Nimrod and Noach.
It is believed that the tower of Bavel/Babel was built out of fear that there may be another flood. Let us consider the following:

1.Noach was involved in the construction of the Ark
Nimrod was involved in the construction of the Tower.

2. Noach means rest comfort
 Nimrod means rebellion

3.The Ark was YHVH’s idea of saving His people
Religious man creates structures, doctrines and organizations to try and save man.

4. The Tower built by the masses
The Ark was built by a handful of people

The Secret to spiritual power is smallness and anonymity.

5.  The Ark was built in obedience
The Tower was built in defiance

6. The Ark points to the future – true spirituality points to the future. (8th day)
The Tower points to the past – false spirituality claims it has arrived, we see this in the “kingdom now” theology of the modern day charismatic movements, who claim they have it all and they have it now.

7. The Ark was completed -   The Tower never was.

8. The Ark was built in faith – The Tower was built in fear and manipulation.

9.  The Ark speaks of Messiah’s Torah – and brings confinement, but also freedom.
The tower promises freedom and liberty, yet it produces lawlessness (Torahlessness) and bondage.

10. Noach builds an altar and worshiped the Father.
Nimrod builds a tower to show his equality with YHVH.

11. The Spirit of Nimrod says – “ME FIRST” “You must lay down your life for me and my cause”
The Spirit of Noach ( Spirit of Messiah) says  – “you first” -  “I will lay down my life for you”

12. If we refuse to walk in the truth, we will be handed over to worship false gods (false mighty ones/elohim).

Let us also briefly in the context of our Torah portion consider the relevance and importance of “speaking in tongues.”
Generally speaking many in the Messianic movement tend to avoid this issue. It is however clearly taught in the second writings and cannot simply be ignored or regarded as unimportant.

For an extensive explanation of this subject you can go to the following web site:

I personally believe that we are influenced by the spirit of this age (queen of heaven) more than we realize. Praying in the spirit may be more powerful than we realize in undoing and exposing the strategies of the evil one over our lives and the lives of our loved ones.
This evil spirit seeks to emasculate men of Elohim and cause others to undermine and ridicule true righteous set apart men and women.
Let it be clearly declared that one day this world will be governed by bearded men wearing tzitziyot full of the gifts and Ruach of YHVH leading communities and nations by the words of YHVH’s Torah.
Sadly in our day much conflict exists between men and woman concerning gender issues because we have been conformed to the spirit of this age.
This Torah portion leads us to believe that a “spell” was cast upon mankind from which we have not yet recovered.
Now we come to a section that speaks of a chosen people that will bring the promised Seed and redemption to mankind from the curse and bondage from sin and the power of the queen of heaven.
Gen 11:10  This is the genealogy of Shĕm: Shĕm was a hundred years old and brought forth Arpaḵshaḏ, two years after the flood.
Gen 11:11  And after he brought forth Arpaḵshaḏ, Shĕm lived five hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:12  And Arpaḵshaḏ lived thirty-five years, and brought forth Shelaḥ.
Gen 11:13  And after he brought forth Shelaḥ, Arpaḵshaḏ lived four hundred and three years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:14  And Shelaḥ lived thirty years, and brought forth Ěḇer.

Note how the descendants of Shem are referred to as the sons of Ever/Eber:

Gen 10:21  And also to Shĕm, the father of all the children of Ěḇer, the brother of Yepheth the elder, children were born.

We are reminded that “Eber” comes from the same Hebrew word “avar” which means to “cross over.”

There is still a call going out today to “come out” and to “cross over” from manmade religion to the true faith of the Elohim of Yisrael and His Torah.

Gen 11:15  And after he brought forth Ěḇer, Shelaḥ lived four hundred and three years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:16  And Ěḇer lived thirty-four years, and brought forth Peleḡ.
Gen 11:17  And after he brought forth Peleḡ, Ěḇer lived four hundred and thirty years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:18  And Peleḡ lived thirty years, and brought forth Reu.
Gen 11:19  And after he brought forth Reu, Peleḡ lived two hundred and nine years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:20  And Reu lived thirty-two years, and brought forth Seruḡ.
Gen 11:21  And after he brought forth Seruḡ, Reu lived two hundred and seven years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:22  And Seruḡ lived thirty years, and brought forth Naḥor.
Gen 11:23  And after he brought forth Naḥor, Seruḡ lived two hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:24  And Naḥor lived twenty-nine years, and brought forth Teraḥ.
Gen 11:25  And after he brought forth Teraḥ, Naḥor lived one hundred and nineteen years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 11:26  And Teraḥ lived seventy years, and brought forth Aḇram, Naḥor, and Haran.
Gen 11:27  And this is the genealogy of Teraḥ: Teraḥ brought forth Aḇram, Naḥor, and Haran. And Haran brought forth Lot.
Gen 11:28  And Haran died before his father Teraḥ in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans.
Gen 11:29  And Aḇram and Naḥor took wives: the name of Aḇram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Naḥor’s wife, Milkah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milkah and the father of Yiskah.
Gen 11:30  And Sarai was barren, she had no child.

Parashat 2 Portion 8

Beresheet/Genesis 9:18-10:32

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.
Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

It is impossible to understand the mysteries of the Torah if one does not see Yahshua as the ultimate goal and purpose of all that is written and taught in the Torah.
Truly the Torah is YHVH’s primary revelation to mankind the rest of the scripture are commentary on this revelation.
We see in this section how the seeds of deception were sown to corrupt the true image and ministry of the Messiah.

Shaul addresses this situation in his letter to the Corinthians:

2Co 11:3  But I am afraid, lest, as the serpent deceived Ḥawwah by his trickery, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah.
2Co 11:4  For, indeed, if he who is coming proclaims another יהושע,1 (Yahshua) whom we have not proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different Good News which you have not accepted, you put up with it well enough! Footnote: 1Mt. 24:5 & 23-24, John 5:43.

Portion 8: (sixth aliyah of Parashat 2)

Note: When a “h” has a little line underneath in the transliteration form of the Hebrew letters, it is pronounced as “ch”- a guttural sound like “gaan” in Afrikaans.

Gen 9:18  And the sons of Noaḥ (Noach)who went out of the ark were Shĕm and Ḥam (Cham) and Yepheth. And Ḥam was the father of Kena’an.
Gen 9:19  These three were the sons of Noaḥ, and all the earth was overspread from them.

Note the additional information given about Cham (Ham) in vs 18. Cham had several other sons but the Ruach of YHVH wants to draw our attention to the descendants of Cham for a reason. It would be through the sons of Cham that a devastating plot to obscure and defile YHVH’s redemption would be put into action. Sadly all Cham’s brothers and their descendant bought into this deception in some or the other. When this seed is fully grown it will bring about the rise of the Anti- Messiah and a great and awesome judgment upon mankind who have been deceived by this false Messianic deception.

The whole earth would now be populated by Noach’s three sons.  The sages believe that the descendants of Shem occupied Asia; the descendants of Yephet occupied Europe the descendants of Cham occupied Africa.
The rabbis believe that Shem was the father of Yisrael and excelled in the study of the Torah. Yephet was the father of the Greeks, who excelled in the arts Arts are good and to be sort after, but only when they are constrained by the truth of the Torah. Canaan son of Cham would be a slave. Note how vs 18 repeats the name of Cham emphasizing that the Canaanites were his descendants. YHVH wants to draw our attention in this section to the profound impact the descendants of Cham have had upon mankind.

Gen 9:20  And Noaḥ, a man of the soil, began and planted a vineyard.

Noach was a farmer a man of the soil who lived close to nature and animals. Nimrod a descendant of Cham was a warrior who built cities and ruled over people.

Gen 9:21  And he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent.

Even Noach was human and subject to frailty. Some believe this was not an intentional act as this was the first time vineyards were planted and wine was fermented. Wine which later becomes a symbol of our celebration of the joy of being in covenant with YHVH, when abused brings shame upon man.

“His tent” is incorrectly translated and should read “her tent”. In the Hebrew text there is a feminine possessive form when it mentions the tent that Noach had undressed in. It was obviously not his own tent that he was laying in, but his wife’s.  We assume the term “uncovered” is a euphemism used to describe a sexual relationship. This is a grave oversight in the translation because it obscures what most probably really happened in Noach’s wife’s tent.

Gen 9:22  And Ḥam, the father of Kenaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.

“At first sight this does not seem such a serious incident and many have wondered why the punishment for a young man seeing his father in a naked condition was so serious, after all they were both men. Also, this Scripture seems especially odd since the punishment seems rather excessive and is passed directly on to Noach's grandson (rather than his son). We must note that the text of Beresheet/Genesis here is less clear than one might wish so we have to work with various clues, found from other sections of Scripture. Overall, most Bible commentators (not all) feel that something else occurred which the text never specifically spells out.

So there might be much more to this text than immediately meets the eye!

Okay, let us consider this in more detail.

Much of the explanation may be found in the meaning of the Hebrew phrase, 'to look upon his/her nakedness.' Look up Leviticus 18:6-18 and 20:17. It is very clear that this phrase was used by the Hebrews to describe a forbidden sexual relationship. In this case, the sin of incest seems to be the problem. It is possible that Kena’an (Canaan) had a sexual relationship with his grandmother. Some scholars now suggest that such incestuous acts were often all about inner-family power struggles and it was usually an ambitious son who attempted to sexually compromise his mother!

Scott Hahn says this,

'Cham was trying to usurp his father's authority by his son sleeping with his mother. Perhaps that's why he told his brothers what he had instigated, rather than keeping it a secret. This reflects a pattern found elsewhere in the Scriptures, especially where sons resent fathers for showing favor to siblings. For example, Yakov's son Reuben sought to undermine his favored half-brother Yoseph by taking his father's (Yakov's) concubine -for which he received a paternal curse (see Gen 29:32; 35:22; 49:3-4). Likewise, Absalom resented the plans of his father, King David, to give the throne to one of his younger half-brothers, Solomon. In response, Absalom drove King David out of Jerusalem and had intercourse  with his father's concubines - right in public -to signify his seizure of royal power...' end quote.

So there may well have been a bid for leadership over his siblings by Cham in his son’s sexual conquest of his own grandmother (if indeed, it was Noach's wife who was compromised rather than Noach himself) - almost certainly, Cham wanted to be recognised as the leader among Noach's sons! Centuries later his male descendants would often seek the sexual conquest of their mothers as a means of attaining fuller privileges within their families. But in Cham's case, YHVH caused his evil behaviour to backfire, and the greater blessings and honour went to Yephet (Japheth) and, especially, to Shem, from whom the tribes of Israel would spring!
So it should not be entirely surprising that YHVH gave the sons of Shem (Abraham and the Israelites) the right to have authority over the Kena’anites (Canaanites).

It is surely interesting that a state of drunkenness leads to another act of incest in Beresheet/Genesis. This was when Lot's daughters deliberately got their father drunk in order to have sex with him. It is recounted in Genesis 19:30-35. So this was paternal incest.

“The message of the Scripture is that the foul sin of incest can only produce evil results. Canaan became the father of the Canaanites who apparently inherited the sexual morals of their grandfather, with a liking for incest and other forms of sexual perversion. Moses warned the Israelites not to adopt the sexual behaviour and practises of the Canaanites and other tribes within the Promised Land in Leviticus 18:6-18 and Exodus 23:23-24.
The incest of Lot's daughters with their father led to the peoples of Edom, Moab and Ammon (Genesis 19:36-38) and these people too proved to be continual enemies of Israel!”

NIMROD AND BABYLON: THE BIRTH OF IDOLATRY AND CHRISTIANITY
by Steve and Terri White

Genesis 10:8-12; Genesis 3:15; Genesis 11
After the flood Noah and his family repopulated the earth. Because the deluge did not eradicate sin, man’s sinful nature ran wild once again. At the same time, territories were overrun with wild beasts, turning against the inhabitants of the land. The battle of man against beast was hot and fearful, but in the midst of it, Nimrod, son of Cush, appeared as the 'knight in shining armor'. A "mighty hunter," Nimrod delivered the people from the fear of beasts. Hungry for power, though, he also emancipated man from YHVH.
Until Nimrod, mankind was governed by the patriarchal system where the heads of families heard from YHVH and guided their individual tribes. Nimrod, more accurately a "mighty hunter against YHVH," usurped patriarchal rule, and crowned himself the first human king in all of history. Now man ruled instead of YHVH.

According to Jewish legend, Nimrod feared the prophecy that a child was to be born who would turn the people back to YHVH. In an effort to preserve his kingdom, he slew 70,000 babies in hopes of killing the would-be saviour. The story goes that Abram of Ur was the prophetic baby, the father of Israel from whom the messiah would come.

Nimrod’s greed and ambition led him to sell himself to demonic powers, and he became the high priest of devil worship. During this time Nimrod married the beautiful and cunning, but notoriously immoral, Semiramis. Together they ruled the world.
Plans were made for a grand tower, a massive type of building called a ziggurat, which consisted of a series of terraced platforms, each smaller than the one below it, and all together reaching a great height. This is indicative of the occult deception which reigned in Babylon.

The Witness of the Stars by E. W. Bullinger reveals the true meaning of what we call 'the signs of the zodiac'. They were meant to be pictures in the sky representing YHVH’s promise of a coming Deliverer, who, being the Seed of the Woman, would bruise the serpent’s head (Gen. 3:15). For this purpose, YHVH gave the stars as "lights . . . for signs and for seasons" (Gen. 1:14 signs, from Hebrew oth means 'evidence'; seasons from Hebrew moed means 'appointed time'). The sky pictures were reminders meant to serve as evidence that all was under YHVH’s divine control, and at His appointed time the events promised (the coming Deliverer, etc.) would happen.

YHVH decided that the perversion of the celestial witness was an attempt to extinguish all hope in man for redemption -- this He would not allow. "This they begin to do, and now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do" (Gen. 11:6) indicates that evil was about to be unleashed that would be "unrestrained." YHVH defeated all of their designs by confusing their one language into many and scattering the people across the earth; when they could not communicate, their knowledge became fragmented. Various elements of 'stargazing' by the civilizations that followed (Egyptian, Assyrian, Greek, etc,) can be traced back to their common beginnings in Babylon. The 'divine astrology' -- YHVH’s witness in the heavens -- was still intact, while pagan astrology was broken into corrupt pieces, a mockery of the former danger of the tower that had its "top with the heavens."

Meanwhile, in the height of his power, Nimrod died. It was a violent death, shrouded in mystery. Semiramis, pregnant from an adulterous relationship and desperate to keep her position, devised a scheme.  Semiramis covered up the details of Nimrod’s death and

publicly proclaimed that:

*      Nimrod’s death was voluntary and self-sacrificial for the benefit of the world.
*      Nimrod would rise again by mystical means.
*      She was a virgin.
*      Nimrod "visited her in a flash of light and the baby was the reincarnated Nimrod".
*      Nimrod’s rising in the form of her son was the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy (Gen. 3:15).

The baby, named Tammuz, was taught the lie and was worshiped as god. Semiramis soon claimed that Nimrod had become the "sun god," and was worshiped as such. Not surprisingly, Semiramis was also worshiped as a goddess -- her original goal finally achieved. Thus, the birth of the mystery religion of Babylon: pagan worship of the bogus virgin and child.
Three key figures are prominent in every idolatrous system -- Nimrod, Semiramis, and Tammuz:

*      a famous, but sinful king dies or is cut off;
*      an immoral queen encourages false worship, bears a child, and is elevated to the status of god;
*      a child, worshiped as god, but serving as husband, lover, or son of the mother.

From Babylon the worship of mother/son spread across the whole earth. In Egypt there is Isis and Horus; in India, Isi and Iward; in Asia, Cybele and Deorius; in ancient Rome, Fortuna and Jupiter; and in Greece, Ceres/Irene and Plutus. The demonic counterfeit was long in place before the real mother and child walked the earth – Miriyam and Yahshua the real Messiah -  end quote.
In Genesis 9, we note the curse which Noach pronounced on his grandson’s act of incest; Kena’an’s/Canaan's descendants would now have to serve Shem's descendants which is what happened when the Jews, descended from Shem, inherited the Promised Land! Shem and Yephet /Japheth receive blessings because they reacted with wisdom and concern when Cham apparently foolishly boasted. They entered the tent and covered their father's 'nakedness' (that is, their father and mother). Yephet's blessing is that he would be 'enlarged' - his descendants have indeed become numerous.

Incidentally, it’s worth pointing something else out from Genesis 9:27. The verse says this:

'May Elohim enlarge Yepeth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem...'

We need to remember that the original Hebrew carried no punctuation, and many feel that there should be a full-stop (period) after Yepeth, rather than a comma, because the next part, 'And may He dwell in the tents of Shem' is actually a reference to YHVH (May he (Elohim) dwell in the tents of Shem) - this could be the tented tabernacle in the wilderness and later the Presence of YHVH in the Temple in Yerushalayim.

It is also possible that this text prophetically refers to a redeemed people who will be grafted into Shem or Yisrael.

Gen 9:23  So Shĕm and Yepheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father, but their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness.
Gen 9:24  And Noaḥ awoke from his wine, and he knew what his younger son (ben o ha katan) had done to him,
Gen 9:25  and he said, “Cursed is Kena’an, let him become a servant of servants to his brothers.”
Gen 9:26  And he said, “Blessed be יהוה, the Elohim of Shĕm, and let Kenaan become his servant.
Gen 9:27  “Let Elohim enlarge Yepheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shĕm. And let Kenaan become his servant.”
Gen 9:28  And Noaḥ lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
Gen 9:29  So all the days of Noaḥ were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died.

Gen 10:1  And this is the genealogy of the sons of Noaḥ: Shĕm, Ḥam, and Yepheth. And sons were born to them after the flood.

According to Wikipedia the Table of Nations in Genesis 10 (verses 15-19), Canaan was the ancestor of the tribes who originally occupied the ancient Land of Canaan: all the territory from Sidon or Hamath in the north to Gaza in the southwest and Lasha in the southeast. This territory is roughly the areas of modern day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, western Jordan, and western Syria. Canaan's firstborn son was Sidon, who shares his name with the Phoenician city of Sidon in present-day Lebanon. His second son was Heth. Canaan's descendants, according to the Hebrew Scriptures, include:

1. Sidonians, i.e. the Phoenicians
2. Hittites, children of Heth
3. Jebusites
4. Amorites
5. Girgashites
6. Hivites
7. Arkites
8. Sinites
9. Arvadites
10. Zemarites
11. Hamathites

According to traditional Ethiopian histories, Canaan's son Arwadi (lit. "the Arvadite") and his wife Entela crossed from Asia into Ethiopia in 2101 BC, and the Qemant tribe were said to be descended from their son, Anayer. There is further an Ethiopian tradition that two other Canaanite tribes, viz. the Sinites and Zemarites, also entered Ethiopia at the time it was ruled by the Kingdom of Kush, and became the Shanqella and Weyto peoples, respectively.
The Persian historian Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari (c. 915) recounted a tradition that the wife of Canaan was named Arsal, a daughter of Batawil son of Tiras, and that she bore him the "Blacks, Nubians, Fezzan, Zanj, Zaghawah, and all the peoples of the Sudan.

The German historian Johannes Aventinus (fl. c. 1525) recorded a legend that Canaan's sons the "Arkite" and the "Hamathite" first settled in the area of Greece, and gave their names to the regions of Arcadia and Emathia.

Modern day Palestians are also believed to be descendants from Kena’an/Canaan.

We need to understand that a great deal of inter marrying has taken place over the past and that no one race can really claim to be a pure race free of any kind of mixture.

There is a true story about how Nazi Germany held a contest in the nation to find out who appeared to be the best example of a pure Arian race. Thousands of baby photos were sent in for selection. Ironically the prize was won by a baby Jewish girl.

Gen 10:2  The sons of Yepheth: Gomer, and Maḡoḡ, and Maḏai, and Yawan, and Tuḇal, and Mesheḵ, and Tiras.
Gen 10:3  And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Toḡarmah.
Gen 10:4  And the sons of Yawan: Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Doḏanim.
Gen 10:5  From these the coastland peoples of the nations were separated into their lands, everyone according to his language, according to their clans, into their nations.
Gen 10:6  And the sons of Ḥam: Kush, and Mitsrayim, and Put, and Kena’an.
Gen 10:7  And the sons of Kush: Seḇa, and Ḥawilah, and Saḇtah, and Ra’mah, and Saḇteḵa. And the sons of Ra’mah: Sheḇa and Deḏan.

Gen 10:8  And Kush brought forth Nimroḏ, he began to be a mighty one on the earth.
Gen 10:9  He was a mighty hunter before יהוה, therefore it is said, “Like Nimroḏ the mighty hunter before יהוה.”
Gen 10:10  And the beginning of his reign was Baḇel, and Ereḵ, and Akkaḏ, and Kalnĕh, in the land of Shinar.
Gen 10:11  From that land he went to Ashshur and built Ninewĕh, and Reḥoḇoth Ir, and Kelaḥ,
Gen 10:12  and Resen between Ninewĕh and Kelaḥ, the great city.

Gen 10:13  And Mitsrayim brought forth Luḏim, and Anamim, and Lehaḇim, and Naphtuḥim,
Gen 10:14  and Pathrusim, and Kasluḥim, from whom came the Philistines and Kaphtorim.

Gen 10:15  And Kenaan brought forth Tsiḏon his first-born, and Ḥĕth,
Gen 10:16  and the Yeḇusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,
Gen 10:17  and the Ḥiwwite, and the Arqite, and the Sinite,

Gen 10:18  and the Arwaḏite, and the Tsemarite, and the Ḥamathite. And afterward the clans of the Kenaanites were spread abroad.
Gen 10:19  And the border of the Kenaanites was from Tsiḏon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Azzah, as you go toward Seḏom, and Amorah, and Aḏmah, and Tseḇoyim, as far as Lasha.

Parashat 2 Portion 7 – Beresheet/Genesis 8:15 – 9:17

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah.
Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Once again we are given a breathtaking view of the redemptive foundations of our Hebraic faith. Sadly years of religious tradition and manmade doctrines have obscured the beauty of our faith.

Beresheet/Gen 8:15  And Elohim spoke to Noaḥ, saying,
Gen 8:16  “Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you.

This could very well be the prophetic pattern of a new beginning after another severe judgment and destruction of life on earth. Could this could be the same kind of scenario at the beginning of the millennial reign of Messiah?
Could a remnant come out of His protective hiding and start all over again?

Gen 8:17  “Bring out with you every living creature of all flesh that is with you: of birds, of cattle and all creeping creatures that creep on the earth. And let them teem on the earth, and bear and increase on the earth.”

For the first time in the Torah (8:17) we find the use of a textual device that deviates from the original Hebrew text (see the note in the margin of the Stones Chumash). This deviation is brought to our attention in the Masoretic text by the use of the words “ Qere or “Q” and ketiv or “K”.” These are Aramaic words that mean that which was originally written “K” and that which is the preferred way of the scribes for expressing the meaning of the original text “Q.”

In verse 17 the Hebrew word for “bring” is “yatza” in this verse the verb appears in its “hiphil” form. The “hiphil” verb is a causative verb and expresses an investigation into a hidden meaning of a verb. In the use of the word “yatza” its root form means to “go out”; in the “hiphil” state it implies that something has happened to cause something to go out and therefore can mean to “bring forth.” What is the “cause” of the coming forth? That is what needs to be investigated. These hiphil verbs can often be complex in their meaning and they challenge us to search and think of their intended application.

In the Hebrew text (vs 17) the Hiphil verb appears as a command, yet the pronunciation of the verb has been changed by the Masorites. Why?
Rashi (Sage)suggests that the Masoretic pronunciation means to “order out” the animals and the original text means to force them out if they don’t obey.

This may seem irrelevant, however there is possibly a far greater significance to this, in that the clean animals that were offered as offerings instinctively surrendered themselves towards a higher purpose by leaving the ark. They did not need to be forced out. They willingly left the ark. Maybe they were somehow instinctively programed by YHVH to respond in a manner which required them to surrender themselves to death for a higher cause. This is speculation on my part but something we can consider.

Maybe this is not so far- fetched; I remember as a child owning a dog who would frantically try and rescue me when I pretended that I was drowning in our swimming pool.
I have also personally experienced the difference between slaughtering a pig and a lamb. The difference is amazing. Pigs scream and perform while lambs are silent as they are being slaughtered.

The prophet speaking of Messiah said the following:

Yeshayahu/Isa 53:7  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, but He did not open His mouth. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, but He did not open His mouth.

Like the nature of the Hiphil verb there is a deeper underlining CAUSE that demands from us some kind of response. This response defines us as human beings and leads us to discover the depths of the mystery of our redemption.

I believe this “hiphil” verb “hotze” or to “bring out” reveals the essence of our redemption:

THAT UNLESS YHVH CAUSES US TO COME OUT OF OUR LOST STATE WE WILL REMAIN LOST.

We were and still are helpless to save ourselves.

This truth is not really accepted in its essence by most if not all the major religions of the world, including Christianity and Judaism. There is always this deep underlying conviction that we are not really that bad and that we can do something to bring about our redemption.

It is not the “sinner’s prayer” that saves us. We can only begin to understand our redemption when we realize that we are not able to keep a covenant with YHVH and that Yahshua was our substitute and the only one who was able to enter into a covenant with YHVH and not break that covenant.
When Messiah returns he will bring a chosen people to perfection that will eventually keep covenant and enter into the presence of YHVH.

We are now “saved” by this act of YHVH’s favour AND OUR FAITH IN HIS ABILITY TO COMPLETE THE REDEMPTIVE WORK HE HAS BEGUN IN US.

Eph 2:8  For by favour you have been saved, through belief, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Elohim,
Eph 2:9  it is not by works, so that no one should boast.
Eph 2:10  For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah יהושע unto good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

In this week’s teaching we have the introduction of animal offerings as well as the appearance of the covenant promise – the rainbow.
The rainbow reminds us that He knows we are not able to keep covenant with HIM BUT HE PROMISES TO KEEP COVENANT WITH US AND FOR US.

As Eugene Peterson in his paraphrasing of the scriptures so eloquently states, that the best thing we can do for YHVH is embrace what He has done and continues to do for us:

Romans 12:1-3

1 So here's what I want you to do, YHVH helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life - and place it before YHVH as an offering. Embracing what YHVH does for you is the best thing you can do for him. 2 Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on YHVH. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, YHVH brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. 3 I'm speaking to you out of deep gratitude for all that YHVH has given me, and especially as I have responsibilities in relation to you. Living then, as every one of you does, in pure grace, it's important that you not misinterpret yourselves as people who are bringing this goodness to YHVH. No, YHVH brings it all to you. The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what YHVH is and by what he does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him

Gen 8:18  So Noaḥ went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him,
Gen 8:19  every beast, every creeping creature, and every bird, whatever creeps on the earth, according to their kinds, went out of the ark.
Gen 8:20  And Noaḥ built an altar to יהוה, and took of every clean beast and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

These are the foundational instructions concerning the offering system developed later in the book of Vayikra/Leviticus.

Gen 8:21  And יהוה smelled a soothing fragrance, and יהוה said in His heart, “Never again shall I curse the ground because of man, although the inclination of man’s heart is evil from his youth, and never again smite all living creatures, as I have done,

Let us examine from scripture the condition (yetzer ha ra) of mankind’s heart.

Tehillim/Psa 51:5  See, I was brought forth in crookedness, And in sin my mother conceived me.
Psa 51:6  See, You have desired truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You make me know wisdom.
Psa 51:7  Cleanse me with hyssop, and I am clean; Wash me, and I am whiter than snow.

Ecc 9:3  This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: there is one event to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are filled with evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and then – to the dead!

Yirmeyahu/Jer 17:9  “The heart is crooked1 above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it? Footnote: 1See 7:24, 16:12, 18:12, 23:17.
Jer 17:10  “I, יהוה, search the heart, I try the kidneys, and give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.

Job 15:14  What is man, that he should be clean? And one born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Job 15:15  Look, He puts no trust in His set-apart ones, and the heavens are not clean in His eyes,
Job 15:16  how much less one who is loathsome and corrupt, drinking unrighteousness like water!
Psa 143:2  And do not enter into right-ruling with Your servant, For before You no one living is in the right.

Rom 3:10  As it has been written, “There is none righteous, no, not one!
Rom 3:11  “There is no one who is understanding, there is none who is seeking Elohim.
Rom 3:12  “They all have turned aside, they have together become worthless. There is none who does good, no, not one.”
Rom 3:13  “Their throat is an open tomb, with their tongues they have deceived,” “The poison of adders is under their lips,”
Rom 3:14  “Whose mouth is filled with cursing and bitterness.”
Rom 3:15  “Their feet are swift to shed blood,
Rom 3:16  ruin and wretchedness are in their ways,
Rom 3:17  and the way of peace they have not known.”
Rom 3:18  “There is no fear of Elohim before their eyes.”

Yeshayahu/Isa 64:6  And all of us have become as one unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as soiled rags. And all of us fade like a leaf, and our crookednesses, like the wind, have taken us away. (Rags refers to a woman’s menstrous cloth)
Isa 64:7  And there is no one who calls on Your Name, who stirs himself up to take hold of You; for You have hidden Your face from us, and have consumed us because of our crookednesses.

What is the solution?

Rom 5:6  For when we were still (Gk adverb-“eti” indicating an ongoing condition) weak, Messiah in due time died for the wicked.
Rom 5:7  For one shall hardly die for a righteous one, though possibly for a good one someone would even have the courage to die.
Rom 5:8  But Elohim proves His own love for us, in that while we were still(Gk – eti) sinners, Messiah died for us.
Rom 5:9  Much more then, having now been declared right by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Rom 5:10  For if, being enemies, we were restored to favour with Elohim through the death of His Son, much more, having been restored to favour, we shall be saved by His life.

Ultimately the solution is that YHVH renews His covenant with us and writes the Torah in our hearts – a blessing we are beginning to experience in our day – Yir/Jer 31:33

Ber/Gen 8:22  as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.”

Note we are not going to heaven after the “rapture”/lifting up in the air to meet Messiah at His coming; we will come down to earth and remain on this present earth for at least another 1000 years with Messiah in our midst and then the renewed heaven, renewed earth and renewed Yerushalayim that will ‘come down out of the heaven from Elohim’ (Rev 21).

Mat 5:17  “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets.1 I did not come to destroy but to complete. Footnote: 1The Law and the Prophets is a term used for the pre-Messianic Scriptures.
Mat 5:18  “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.1 Footnote: 1Lk. 16:17.
Mat 5:19  “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.

Gen 9:1  And Elohim blessed Noaḥ and his sons, and said to them, “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the earth.

Three times in this teaching we find this phrase to bear fruit and increase.

Yochanan/Joh 15:4  “Stay in Me, and I stay in you. As the branch is unable to bear fruit of itself, unless it stays in the vine, so neither you, unless you stay in Me.
Joh 15:5  “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me you are able to do naught!
Joh 15:6  “If anyone does not stay in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up. And they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
Joh 15:7  “If you stay in Me, and My Words stay in you, you shall ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.
Joh 15:8  “In this My Father is esteemed, that you bear much fruit, and you shall be My taught ones.
Joh 15:9  “As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love.
Joh 15:10  “If you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love,1 even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love. Footnote: 1See 14:15.
Joh 15:11  “These words I have spoken to you, so that My joy might be in you, and that your joy might be complete.

We now have a section in Torah that has given rise to the establishing of the so called Noachide laws.
The ancient sages reasoned that Noach was a kind of father for a new humanity and these following verses indicate certain laws that are common to all humanity.

  1. Prohibition of Idolatry
  2. Prohibition of Murder
  3. Prohibition of Theft
  4. Prohibition of Sexual immorality
  5. Prohibition of Blasphemy
  6. Prohibition of eating flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive
  7. Establishment of courts of law
The ancient sages believed that righteous people from all nations could have a place in the world to come. They recognized that YHVH had made a difference between Israel and the nations and that YHVH had entered into a special covenant with Israel giving them His Torah. Those who were not part of or were willing to be grafted into the nation of Israel would be obligated to keep these seven Noachide laws.
Perhaps we need to consider that there still exist two kinds of people today; those who trust YHVH to write His Torah on their hearts so that they can live and enter into His covenant and those who seek to live as righteous gentiles.
Ber/Gen 9:2  “And the fear of you and the dread of you is on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the heavens, on all that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish of the sea – into your hand they have been given.
Gen 9:3  “Every moving creature that lives is food for you. I have given you all, as I gave the green plants.
Gen 9:4  “But do not eat flesh with its life, its blood.
Gen 9:5  “But only your blood for your lives I require, from the hand of every beast I require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I require the life of man.
Gen 9:6  “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood is shed, for in the image of Elohim has He made man.
Gen 9:7  “As for you, bear fruit and increase, bring forth teemingly in the earth and increase in it.”
Gen 9:8  And Elohim spoke to Noaḥ and to his sons with him, saying,
Gen 9:9  “And I, see, I establish My covenant with you and with your seed after you,
Gen 9:10  and with every living creature that is with you: of the birds, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth.
Gen 9:11  “And I shall establish My covenant with you, and never again is all flesh cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again is there a flood to destroy the earth.”
Gen 9:12  And Elohim said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for all generations to come:
Gen 9:13  “I shall set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
Gen 9:14  “And it shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud,
Gen 9:15  and I shall remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and never again let the waters become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Gen 9:16  “And the rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I shall see it, to remember the everlasting covenant between Elohim and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
Gen 9:17  And Elohim said to Noaḥ, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam,
asher natan lanu Toraht-emet,
v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu.
Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe,
you have given us your Torah of truth,
and have planted everlasting life within our midst.
Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)
