Parashat 1 Portion 1 Bereshiet – Ber/Gen 1:1-2:3 Yesh/Is 45:2-9 Col 1:1-23

We have completed a Triennial Torah cycle at the end of Sukkot 2015 and are starting now with a new 
Triennial Torah Cycle


YHVH looked into the Torah and created the world. Man looks into Torah and sustains (heals) the world. (Zohar)

How will the Bride of Messiah be recognized? No one really knows except YHVH and Yahshua. We know He calls many but few of them are chosen (Matt22:14).

This selection process is not known to us.

Rom 9:15  For He says to Mosheh, “I shall favour whomever I favour, and I shall have compassion on whomever I have compassion.” (Ex/Shemot 33:19)
Rom 9:16  So, then, it is not of him who is wishing, nor of him who is running, but of Elohim who shows favour.

Human religion has confused and exhausted us and will continue to do so in increasing measure.

How can we become wise virgins prepared to meet the Bridegroom? (Matt 25)

We adorn ourselves with the teaching or the doctrine of Messiah.

Tit 2:10 …. but showing all good trustworthiness, so that they adorn the teaching of Elohim our Saviour in every way.

What is the adornment? What is it that makes us beautiful and irresistible to YHVH?

The teaching of Moshe – The Torah – covering our lives as the tallit covers our bodies.

Jas 1:25  But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom,1 and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah. Footnote: 1See 2:12.

Jas 2:12  So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.1 Footnote: 1See 1:25, and John 8:32-36.

And so we begin a new Torah cycle let our prayer and desire be that Yahveh will adorn us with a deeper insight and obedience into His Heart through His Torah – the way Messiah and his talmadim (disciples) came to show and teach us.

Jer 33:3  ‘Call unto Me, and I shall answer you, and show you great and inaccessible matters, which you have not known.’

Psa 119:18  Open my eyes, that I might see Wonders from Your Torah.

יח  גַּל-עֵינַי וְאַבִּיטָה--    נִפְלָאוֹת, מִתּוֹרָתֶךָ.

Uncover my eyes (Heb -galah/galut) that I may consider and pay attention (Heb- navat) to matters beyond my understanding (Heb – “pala’ surpassing and extraordinary) from your Torah.
Psa 19:7  The Torah of יהוה is perfect, bringing back the being …(converting the being (soul as it was translated ))
Psa 119:34  Make me understand,(Heb – havineni – cause me to understand) that I might observe(Heb – natzar – keep and maintain – Notzri – Believer in Yahshua and keeper of the covenant) Your Torah, And guard(Heb – shamar) it with all my heart.

Gen 1:1  In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.

א  בְּרֵאשִׁית, בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים, אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ.

The very first letter in the Torah is the letter “beit” This ”beit” which means “house” is an enlarged “beit” in the Torah scroll and gives rise to speculation as to its hidden meaning. We have just completed our celebration of Sukkot or booths. The very first letter of the Torah reminds us that YHVH wants to dwell with His people.
“Beit” also means “two” and could be a possible reference to the belief that in this world is the one house in which we are being prepared for seven thousand years to be able to live in the next house, the New Yersushalayim for ever and ever.
“Beit” could also be a hidden reference to the “Beit Ha Mikdash” – The Set Apart Temple – where His Esteem and His Torah and our service to Him are revealed to mankind.

The Hebrew verb bara ("created") employed by this verse specifically means the creation of something from nothing (Ibn Ezra; Nachmanides.) This dispels the evolution theory. Gen 1:2  And the earth came to be1 formless and empty, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim was moving on the face of the waters. Footnote: 1Or the earth became.

ב  וְהָאָרֶץ, הָיְתָה תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ, וְחֹשֶׁךְ, עַל-פְּנֵי תְהוֹם; וְרוּחַ אֱלֹהִים, מְרַחֶפֶת עַל-פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם

Let us consider that the seven days of creation are a pattern of the restoration of all things. We observe that the earth became or was “chaotically empty” or “tohu vavihu” This may have been when Satan and one third of his messengers were cast out of heaven – see Rev 12:4; Is 14:12-16
We can see the pattern in this seven day creation account the “tikkun olam” or restoration and healing of all matters – including the healing of nations and individuals. We also see in this seven day creation account a pattern to the study and understanding of the Torah.

Step 1. We need to recognize there is only “chaotic emptiness” without YHVH’s revelation. Only when YHVH chooses to shine His light (Messiah) into the chaotic emptiness can a healing and restoring process begin.

Gen 1:3  And Elohim said, “Let light come to be,” and light came to be.

 וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים, יְהִי אוֹר; וַיְהִי-אוֹר

Gen 1:4  And Elohim saw the light, that it was good. And Elohim separated the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5  And Elohim called the light ‘day’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the first day.

For any kind of creating and restoration to take place there needs to be recognition that YHVH is an Elohim of distinction. He does not mix things that essentially differ. Then YHVH fills what He separates in order to bring revelation in understanding of who He is and how we can become one with Him.

Gen 1:6  And Elohim said, “Let an expanse come to be in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”
Gen 1:7  And Elohim made the expanse, and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse. And it came to be so.
Gen 1:8  And Elohim called the expanse ‘heavens.’ And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the second day.

Water speaks of life. YHVH brings about a separation between life and life. Note the Torah does not say this was good. This is perhaps because YHVH did not want heavenly life and earthly life to be separated.

Luk 11:2  And He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in the heavens, let Your Name be set-apart, let Your reign come, let Your desire be done on earth as it is in heaven.

תבא מלכותך יעשה רצונך כאשר בשמים גם בארץ׃

Gen 1:9  And Elohim said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it came to be so.
Gen 1:10  And Elohim called the dry land ‘earth,’ and the collection of the waters He called ‘seas.’ And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:11  And Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the plant that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth.” And it came to be so.
Gen 1:12  And the earth brought forth grass, the plant that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:13  And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the third day.

The third day has Messianic significance. Yahshua was raised from the dead on the third day. He will return back to earth for the second time on the “third day” – third millennium –
For the first time human life can be sustained on earth –

Note the first three days were days of separation – the next three days are days where YHVH fills what He has separated to sustain life on a higher level.
When we study Torah – by the third day there is a special anointing to see Messiah in the weekly portion – Rom 10:4 – (This is my personal opinion and observation)

Gen 1:14  And Elohim said, “Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and appointed times, and for days and years,
Gen 1:15  and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth.” And it came to be so.
Gen 1:16  And Elohim made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night, and the stars.
Gen 1:17  And Elohim set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
Gen 1:18  and to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19  And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the fourth day.

On the fourth day YHVH provides a Messianic redemptive time line that will guide and rule our lives until the eighth day when He will eventually be joined to us as He was joined to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.

YHVH has given us a calendar and an appointment diary to guide our lives until the “eighth day.”

We cannot follow YHVH as we were meant to if we chose another calendar. Is it not significant that the Roman Catholic Church found it necessary to change YHVH’s calendar? The Gregorian calendar name after one of the Roman Catholic popes!
Our lives can only come into harmony with YHVH when we follow His appointments. Following YHVH’s appointments allows us discernment of the times we are living in.

Gen 1:20  And Elohim said, “Let the waters teem with shoals of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.”
Gen 1:21  And Elohim created great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters teemed, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:22  And Elohim blessed them, saying, “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
Gen 1:23  And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the fifth day.

Now YHVH fills the earthly realm (sea) and the heavenly realm (sky) with life. We must however distinguish between what is truly beneficial life and what is not truly beneficial life, what is acceptable and what is not acceptable – see Lev/Vayikra 10:10.
Something may appear to be good and acceptable to YHVH but it is not. For example mixing pagan customs with His Torah, something like Christmas may appear innocent and good for one’s family, but in reality it is an abomination to YHVH. What about the Trinitarian doctrine? It seems to honour YHVH but in reality it may be blasphemy.
Let’s always remember that on the “Eighth Day” Shemeni Atzeret – heaven and earth come together  (‘..a renewed heaven and a renewed earth…. and the sea is no more’ –Rev 21).

Gen 1:24  And Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: livestock and creeping creatures and beasts of the earth, according to its kind.” And it came to be so.
Gen 1:25  And Elohim made the beast of the earth according to its kind, livestock according to its kind, and all that creep on the earth according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.
Gen 1:26  And Elohim said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the livestock, and over all the earth and over all the creeping creatures that creep on the earth.”

Yahshua has always been in the bosom of the Father. We were created in the image of Father and Son – Rev 13:8

Gen 1:27  And Elohim created the man in His image, in the image of Elohim He created him – male and female He created them.
Gen 1:28  And Elohim blessed them, and Elohim said to them, “Bear fruit and increase, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over all creatures moving on the earth.”
Gen 1:29  And Elohim said, “See, I have given you every plant that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed, to you it is for food.
Gen 1:30  “And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to every creeping creature on the earth, in which there is life, every green plant is for food.” And it came to be so.
Gen 1:31  And Elohim saw all that He had made, and see, it was very good. And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the sixth day.

On the sixth day YHVH creates a higher form of life – animal life – then He creates the highest form of life – man and a woman in His image. Now YHVH can be fully represented on earth. Will this life bring honour or dishonour to YHVH? Will this life establish YHVH’s presence on earth?
This highest form of life finds its highest purpose for being when it is conformed into the image of Messiah.
Messianic life is about giving and laying down your life. For us to experience this kind of life we need to search our hearts to make sure we are giving to YHVH what He requires of us – our time, treasure and talents. When we give as He requires the heavens open for us. The whole offering system was about giving to YHVH.

We can make comparisons of these days with our weekly Torah study – each day of the creation narrative will represent an increasing revelation and application of YHVH’s Torah in our lives – if we follow this seven day patter of creation. The same principle applies to the healing of people and of nations.
Gen 2:1  Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their array.
Gen 2:2  And on the seventh day Elohim completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
Gen 2:3  And Elohim blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it He rested from all His work which Elohim in creating had made.

Now finally YHVH wants His people to gather together on the Sabbath  (Shabbat in Hebrew)and reflect from the Torah the true meaning of life and YHVH’s purpose to be joined to His people for ever  and ever.

The sages say that these seven days of creation correspond to the seven millennia of history:

“The first day of creation, which saw the creation of light, corresponds to the first millennium of history--the millennium of Adam, the light of the world, when the world was still saturated with knowledge of its Creator and was sustained by the indiscriminate benevolence of YHVH.
The second day, on which the Creator distinguished between the spiritual and the physical elements of His creation, yielded a second millennium of judgment and discrimination--as reflected in the Flood which wiped out a corrupt humanity and spared only the righteous Noah and his family.
The third day, on which the land emerged from the sea and sprouted forth greenery and fruit-bearing trees, encapsulates the third millennium, in which Abraham began teaching the truth of the One YHVH and the Torah was given on Mount Sinai.
The fourth day, on which YHVH created the sun and the moon, the two great luminaries: the greater luminary... and the lesser luminary, corresponds to the fourth millennium, during which the First Temple and the Second Temple in Jerusalem served as the Divine abode from which light emanated to the entire world. The fifth day, the day of fish, birds and reptiles, represents the lawless and predatory Dark Ages of the fifth millennium.
The sixth day, whose early hours saw the creation of the beasts of the land, followed by the creation of man, is our millennium--a millennium marked by strong, forceful empires, whose beastly rule will be followed by the emergence of Moshiach, the perfect man who brings to realization the divine purpose in creation and ushers in the
 seventh millennium--the World to Come--a time of perfect peace and tranquility. (Nachmanides)”
