Parashat 45 Portion 129 Dev/Deut 4:1-49 Yerm 20:4-11 Heb 3:7-19

Blessing for the Torah:

Bar’chu et YHVH ha-m’vorach, Baruch YHVH ha-m’vorach l’O’lam va-ed! Baruch ata YHVH Eloheinu melech ha-olam. Asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’na-tan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples and have given us your Torah.)

Deu 4:1  “And now, O Yisra’ĕl, listen(shema) to the laws and the right-rulings which I am teaching you to do, so that you live, and shall go in and possess the land which יהוה Elohim of your fathers is giving you.

“    and now” – “ve ata” the desert wonderings are over and “now” the time has come for Yisrael to possess the land. The whole purpose of the desert wonderings was to prepare Yisrael to “shema” and embrace all instruction of the Torah that they had received in the wilderness so that they would never have to wonder in another “wilderness” ever again.

Deu 4:2  “Do not add to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it1, so as to guard the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I am commanding you. Footnote: 1See also 12:32, Prov. 30:6, Rev. 22:18-19. Rom 7:12

Sadly, many Christians believe that the doctrine of “grace” has “taken away” our need to be obedient to the Torah – not to gain salvation but the evidence of our salvation – Fruit – Matt 3:10

See Commentary – Tim Hegg on Romans, page 166 -  Rom 6:10-15 – Rom 7

Vs 5 But how does the Torah stir up the sinful passions? The work of the law, in the absence of the Spirit, . . . is to inflame our hearts still more, so that they burst forth into rage and lustful desires – Gal 5:18-21
Challenged by the law which claims man for God and for his neighbor, man’s self-centeredness—the sinful ego—recognizes that it is being called in question and attacked, and so seeks all the more furiously to defend itself – Ps 119:165

Yahshua warned the teachers of YHVH’s Word in his time and in our time not to teach and exalt the doctrines of men above the Torah of YHVH.

Mar 7:6  And He answering, said to them, “Well did Yeshayahu prophesy concerning you hypocrites, as it has been written, ‘This people respect Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
Mar 7:7  And in vain do they worship Me, teaching as teachings the commands of men.’1 Footnote: 1See Isa. 29:13, 2 Ki. 17:19, and Mt. 15:3-9.
