Parashat 10 Portion 41’’Miketz’’ Gen 42:18-43:13 Is 50:10 – 51:7-11 Is 49:14 – 51:3

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, Creator of the universe, who desires covenantal intimacy with Your called-out ones – blessed are those whom You have called and chosen and have given a heart that longs for and deeply desires Your covenantal life.  Please, YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our hearts and in the hearts of Your people, the family of Israel. May we and our offspring and the offspring of Your people, the house of Jacob – all of us – know Your Name and study Your Torah to enable us to sincerely love one another and to love You above all. Please uncover our eyes and open our hearts that we may carefully examine and receive the marvels and mysteries of Your Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, who has created and established Your covenant with the called apart ones of Israel – through Yahshua our Messiah - Amein.

Isa 51:4  “Listen to Me, My people, and give ear to Me, O My nation, for the Torah goes forth from Me, and My right-ruling I set as a light to peoples. Isa 51:7  “Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, a people in whose heart is My Torah: do not fear the reproach of men, nor be afraid of their reviling’s.

ויאמר אלהם – ‘’and he said unto them’’

Gen 42:18  ויאמר אלהם יוסף ביום השׁלישׁי זאת עשׂו וחיו את־האלהים אני ירא׃ ויאמר אלהם – ‘’and he said unto them’’

Gen 42:18  Now Yosěph said to them the third day, “Do this and live, for I fear Elohim:

Do what and live?

‘’When My family comes together again you will live’’

The scribe was inspired to begin this portion with the phrase ויאמר אלהם  (Gen 42:18) – it is a calling from YHVH to bring back together a covenant people – only a unified covenantal people can restore covenant life on earth -  covenantal life is  resurrection life – it is a life that comes back after the death of everything that stands in the way of covenantal life.

By demanding Benjamin be brought down, Joseph is forcing the brothers to confront the very Person (Yahshua) who embodies the "right hand" (covenant authority) of the Father.

The resurrection was a non-negotiable cornerstone of Yahshua’s identity and Israel’s future restoration. The resurrection message elevated Yahshua’s teaching of the Torah into the universal declaration of victory over sin and death and pointed to the unification of YHVH’s family sometime during the ‘’third day’’ - Hos 6:2  After two days He shall revive us, on the third day He shall raise us up, so that we live before Him.

When religious leaders demanded a miraculous sign to prove his authority, Yahshua repeatedly stated that no sign would be given except the "sign of the prophet Jonah"—predicting he would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights (Matthew 12:39–40)

First-century Jewish theology largely viewed the resurrection as a single corporate event at the very end of time.

For the first century Believers – it was the ultimate vindication of their faith - 1Co 15:14  And if Messiah has not been raised, then our proclaiming is empty, and your belief also empty,

1Co 15:15  and we are also found false witnesses of Elohim, because we have witnessed of Elohim that He raised up Messiah, whom He did not raise up, if then the dead are not raised.

1Co 15:16  For if the dead are not raised, then neither Messiah has been raised.

1Co 15:17  And if Messiah has not been raised, your belief is to no purpose, you are still in your sins!

For this reason, the scribe starts off this section with the words ויאמר אלהם – ‘’go and tell your brothers the appointed time for our family reunion/resurrection has come’’ and so it shall be repeated one final time again in the last days.

Gen 42:18  Now Yosěph said to them the third day, “Do this and live, for I fear Elohim:

When Joseph appears to his brothers again – it was like Joseph died and rose again.

When an end time remnant appears before the Messiah (Ben Yosef) it will be because they too have experienced the same kind of death and resurrection – Gal 2:20

Gen 42:19  “If you are trustworthy, let one of your brothers be confined to your prison house, and you, go, bring grain for the scarcity of food of your houses.

Mishnah (Pirkei Avot / Ethics of the Fathers 3:17), spoken by the sage Rabbi Eleazar ben Azariah. The full, symmetrical statement reads:

אִם אֵין קֶמַח אֵין תּוֹרָה; אִם אֵין תּוֹרָה אֵין קֶמַח.
Im ein kemach, ein Torah; im ein Torah, ein kemach.
"If there is no flour, there is no Torah; if there is no Torah, there is no flour."

Flour comes from crushed grain.

And so, in the last days - Messiah ben Yosef repeats these same words to an end time remnant –

“ Be trustworthy while your Birthright Brother (Yahshua) remains in a place of waiting for you and your brothers will come together again to proclaim this eternal word to all nations – and then the end shall come - Mat 24:14  “And this Good News of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come’’

Rom 8:18  For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the esteem that is to be revealed in (Gk - εἰς or into) us.

Rom 8:19  For the intense longing (a) of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of Elohim. Footnote: aLit. anxiously looking with outstretched head

Rom 8:20  For the creation was subjected to futility, not from choice, but because of Him who subjected it, in anticipation,

Rom 8:21  that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage to corruption into the esteemed freedom of the children of Elohim.

Rom 8:22  For we know that all the creation groans together, and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

Rom 8:23  And not only so, but even we ourselves who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we ourselves also groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

Rom 8:24  For in this expectation we were saved, but expectation that is seen is not expectation, for when anyone sees, does he expect it?

Gen 42:20  “And bring your youngest brother to me, and let your words be confirmed, and you do not die.” And so they did.

If the Messiah does not return – we will all die in our sin without any kind of a future hope.

Gen 42:21  And they said to each other, “Truly, we are guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the distress of his life when he pleaded with us, yet we did not listen, that is why this distress has come upon us.”

Gen 42:22  And Re’uěn answered them, saying, “Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Do not sin against the boy,’ and you would not listen? And see, his blood is now required of us.”

Gen 42:23  And they did not know that Yosěph understood them, for he spoke to them through an interpreter.

This situation will be repeated in the last days amongst the ‘’brothers’’ of Yahshua – and when he hears them Yahshua too like Yosef will weep (in secret) with great rejoicing –

Gen 42:24  And he turned himself away from them and wept but came back to them and spoke to them. And he took Shim‛on from them and bound him before their eyes.

Gen 42:25  And Yosěph commanded and they filled their sacks with grain, also to put back every man’s silver to his sack, and to give them food for the journey. And thus, it was done for them.

We are not redeemed with silver:

1Pe 1:18  knowing that you were redeemed from your futile behaviour inherited from your fathers, not with what is corruptible, silver or gold,

1Pe 1:19  but with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless,

1Pe 1:20  foreknown, indeed, before the foundation of the world, but manifested in these last times for your sakes,

1Pe 1:21  who through Him believe in Elohim who raised Him from the dead and gave Him esteem, so that your belief and expectation are in Elohim.

‘’Silver is the currency of the betrayal (both of Joseph (20 pieces of silver) and later of Yeshua for thirty pieces of silver). Therefore, silver can never be the currency for restoration. The covenant is only restored when self-preservation dies, and substitutionary love takes its place.’’

Gen 42:26  So they loaded their donkeys with the grain and went from there.

Gen 42:27  And as one of them opened his sack to give his donkey fodder at the lodging place, he saw his silver, for there it was in the mouth of his sack!

Gen 42:28  And he said to his brothers, “My silver has been returned, and there it is, in my sack!” And their hearts sank and they were afraid, saying to each other, “What is this that Elohim has done to us?”

Gen 42:29  So they came to Ya‛aqo their father in the land of Kena‛an and reported to him all that befell them, saying,

Gen 42:30  “The man, the master of the land, spoke to us harshly, and took us for spies of the land.

Gen 42:31  “But we said to him, ‘We are trustworthy, we are not spies.

Gen 42:32  We are twelve brothers, sons of our father. One is no more, and the youngest is today with our father in the land of Kena‛an.’

Gen 42:33  “And the man, the master of the land, said to us, ‘By this I know that you are trustworthy: Leave one of your brothers here with me, and take food for the scarcity of food of your households, and go.

Gen 42:34  And bring your youngest brother to me, then I know that you are not spies, but that you are trustworthy – I give your brother to you, and you move about in the land.’”

By saying they can "move about" or "trade," Joseph is offering them an official business visa. He is granting them the legal right to bypass Egyptian border security, conduct commerce, and buy food during a catastrophic global famine – and so shall it be again in the last days.

Gen 42:35  And it came to be as they emptied their sacks, that look, the bundle of each man’s silver was in his sack! And when they and their father saw the bundles of silver, they were afraid.

Gen 42:36  And Ya‛aqo their father said to them, “You have bereaved me – Yosěph is no more, and Shim‛on is no more, and you would take Binyamin! All this is against me.”

Gen 42:37  So Re’uěn spoke to his father, saying, “Take the lives of my two sons if I do not bring him back to you. Put him in my hands, and I myself bring him back to you.”

Gen 42:38  But he said, “My son is not going down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If any harm should come to him along the way in which you go, then you would bring down my grey hair with sorrow to She’ol.”

Joseph's Brothers Return to Egypt

Gen 43:1  But the scarcity of food was severe in the land.

Let us remind ourselves, in the last days things will go from bad to very bad to almost unbearable –

Let us all get ready for the scariest rollercoaster ride in all history -

2Ti 3:1  But know this, that in the last days hard times shall come.

2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of silver,a boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers, Footnote: (a)Implying money.

2Ti 3:3  unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, haters of good,

2Ti 3:4  betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Elohim,

2Ti 3:5  having a form of reverence but denying its power.b And turn away from these! Footnote: bSee 2Ti_3:13, and also Isa_24:5-6, Mat_24:12, Rom_1:30-31, 2Th_2:3-11.

At the end of this bleak description in verse 5, Paul gives Timothy a direct, actionable command: "And from such people turn away!" Believers are instructed to recognize these destructive mindsets and actively disassociate from those who promote them, especially those who pretend to have an appearance of ‘’godliness’’ - 2Ti 3:5 They will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people. 2Ti 3:6  For some of these men go into homes and deceive (Gk capture) foolish women who are burdened with sins and swayed by all kinds of desires. 2Ti 3:7  These women (Gk gunaikarion) are always studying but are never able to arrive at a full knowledge of the truth.

For 2 Timothy 3:6, gynaikaria being a hapax means its exact shade of meaning is not exactly known (“little/silly/weak/gullible women”) draws heavily from the derogatory context rather than widespread NT usage. The ‘’hapax’’ strongly suggests that this does not apply to all women –

1Ti 2:12  But I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority (Gk ‘’authority’’ or domineering’’ also a hapaxlegomenon) over a man, rather, to be in silence – (‘’authority’’ Gk authenteō - The ‘’hapax’’ strongly suggests that this does not apply to all women )

1Ti 2:12  Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate violence towards a man. Instead, she is to remain calm.

Wilf Kent defines deception as the most violent form of brutality because you destroy yourself on an instalment plan and resent any interference. (this deception obviously applies to both men and women)

This mirrors the serpent’s approach with Eve (subtle deception targeting vulnerability). The goal was often to gain influence over the entire household through the women – see Is 3 :1 – 4:1

Some scholars refer to the church as the ‘’great harlot’’ (Rev 17)

In the last days YHVH is going to do a ‘’new thing’’ He restores the patriarchy by surrounding them with righteous women - Jer 31:22  “Till when would you turn here and there, O backsliding daughter? For יהוה has created what is new on earth: a woman encompasses a man!”

Jer 31:22  Hoe lank sal jy bly aarsel, (English ‘’hesitate’’) o afkerige (rejection of YHVH’s order) dogter? Want die HERE het iets nuuts op die aarde geskape: Die vrou sal die man beskerm.

Isa 4:1  "At that time, seven women will cling tightly to one man and will make him this offer: 'We'll provide our own bread. We'll provide our own clothes. Just let us marry you so we won't be stigmatized anymore.'"

Why? In the last days very few people will survive and there will most probably be 7x times more righteous women than men – (this a popular theory among several scholars regarding this verse – but also debated by many others)

(AI) The Joseph Story as the Prototype of Healing:

The fragmentation of Jacob’s family is the ultimate picture of a "fatherless" society, even while the father is still alive. Because the brothers were disconnected from the heart and vision of their father, they operated in jealousy, deceit, and violence—traits that define a broken, fragmented culture.

Healing only comes when patriarchal responsibility is restored through Judah:

·         The Heart Turns to the Father: When Judah pleads for Benjamin in Genesis 44, his entire argument is centred on the heart of his father: "How shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest I see the evil that will come upon my father?" (Gen 44:34).

·         The Death of Self-Interest: Judah steps into true patriarchal leadership by offering his own life. He stops acting like an orphan fighting for survival and starts acting like a father-figure protecting the lineage.

The End-Time Application

Scholars who apply this to our modern era argue that society cannot be healed by human systems, legislation, or financial schemes (the "silver" economy). True healing requires a resurrection of the paternal spirit—men who step out of the spiritual passivity of the "pit" and into the sacrificial responsibility of covenant guardians – (end quote)

‘’The Hebrew word for "father" is אב (Ab), and its linguistic construction reveals the exact blueprint for covenantal patriarchal leadership. In the ancient pictographic Hebrew script, words were not just random sounds; they were functional descriptions of the object's purpose.

1. The Pictographic Meaning of אב (Ab)

The word is made of two foundational letters:

·         א (Aleph): Represented by the head of an ox. It signifies strength, power, and leadership.

·         ב (Bet): Represented by the floor plan of a tent or house. It signifies the home, the family, or the inside.

When you combine these two letters, the word אב (Ab) literally means "The Strength of the House" [1]. A true patriarch is not an authoritarian ruler over the house, but the pillars that hold the tent up. If the Aleph (the father) is missing or weak, the Bet (the family/society) collapses’’ AI

Gen 43:2  And it came to be, when they had eaten up the grain which they had brought from Mitsrayim, that their father said to them, “Go back, buy us a little food.”

Gen 43:3  But Yehuah spoke to him, saying, “The man vehemently warned us, saying, ‘You do not see my face unless your brother is with you.’”

Gen 43:4  “If you let our brother go with us, we go down and buy you food.

Gen 43:5  “But if you do not let him go, we do not go down, because the man said to us, ‘You do not see my face unless your brother is with you.’ ”

Gen 43:6  And Yisra’ěl said, “Why did you do evil to me to inform the man that you still had another brother?”

Gen 43:7  And they said, “The man kept asking about us and our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ And we informed him according to these words. How could we know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

Gen 43:8  And Yehuah said to Yisra’ěl his father, “Send the boy with me, and let us arise and go, and live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones.

Gen 43:9  “I myself shall stand guaranty for him – from my hand you are to require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.

Gen 43:10  “For if we had not delayed, truly by now we could have returned this second time.”

Gen 43:11  And their father Yisra’ěl said to them, “If so, then do this: Take some of the best fruit of the land in your vessels and bring a present down for the man, a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds.

Gen 43:12  “And take double silver in your hand, and take back in your hand the silver that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. It could have been a mistake.

Gen 43:13  “And take your brother, and arise, go back to the man.

Now Jacob has once again comes to an end of himself – ‘’And I, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved!”  כאשׁר שׁכלתי שׁכלתי  ‘’shachalti’’- if I lose my family I lose my family – Rev 12:11 “And they loved not their lives unto the death.” – sign of an overcoming end time generation-

Mal 4:4  “Remember the Torah of Mosheh, My servant, which I commanded him in orě for all Yisra’ěl – laws and right-rulings.

Mal 4:5  “See, I am sending you Ěliyah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of יהוה

Mal 4:6  “And he shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with utter destruction. “a Footnote: aSee also Zec_14:13

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Co 1:8  For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, of our pressure which came to us in Asia, that we were weighed down, exceedingly,a beyond ability, so that we despaired even of life. Footnote: aSee 2Co_4:8-9 and 2Co_4:17

2Co 1:9  Indeed, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in Elohim who raises the dead,

2Co 1:10  who rescued us from so great a death, and does rescue, in whom we trust that He shall still rescue us,
