Parashat 21 Portion 68 - Ki Tisa – “When you lift up” Shemot/Ex 30:11 – 38 2 Kings 12:1-16 2 Cor 9:6-11

Blessing for the Torah Reading:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Why is silver associated with redemption? Perhaps it has something to do with how silver can reflect an image perfectly. It is a known fact that a silversmith knows when molten silver is ready to be moulded when he looks into the molten silver and can see a perfect reflection of his image.
So we too know that our redemption will have been completed when Yahshua’s image is perfectly reflected in us.

Rom 8:29  Because those whom He knew beforehand, He also ordained beforehand to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, for Him to be the first-born among many brothers.

Why did each male over 20 need to pay a redemption fee? Because they needed to be redeemed.
We too need to be redeemed.

Jer 31:10  “Hear the word of יהוה, O gentiles, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Yisra’ĕl gathers him, and shall guard him as a shepherd his flock.’
Jer 31:11  “For יהוה shall ransom Yaʽaqoḇ, and redeem him from the hand of one stronger than he.

Php 2:12  So that, my beloved, as you always obeyed – not only in my presence, but now much rather in my absence – work out your own deliverance with fear and trembling,
Php 2:13  for it is Elohim who is working in you both to desire and to work for His good pleasure.

We who call ourselves believers and seekers after the truth often don’t realize how deep our need of redemption is. We have been raised in a culture that somehow convinces us that we are ok and just need a little help here and there. In actual fact we are powerless to affect needed and lasting change in our lives and in the world around us.

Mat 5:3  “Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the reign of the heavens.

Quote from a sermon given by Charles Spurgeon:

“Whenever we attempt to number the people of Elohim, it is absolutely necessary that we count only those who at least profess to have brought the Redemption price in their hands and so have taken part in the Atonement of Yahshua Ha Mashiach.
David, when he numbered the people, did not gather from them the Redemption money and, therefore, a plague broke out among them. He had failed in obedience to the Masters’s ordinance and counted his subjects, not as redeemed people, but merely as so many heads. Let us always beware of estimating the number of Christians by the number of the population of the countries called Christian, for the only true Christians in the world are those who are redeemed from iniquity by the blood of the Lamb and have personally accepted the ransom which Yahveh has provided. (The way the Father wants to be accepted though his Son when we accept Yahshua the Mediator as our Master is, not just through a sinner’s prayer but a grateful response to the fact that He has chosen us, and grafted us into the tree of Yisrael, and we respond to Him by accepting and obeying all the instructions for this redeemed relationship found in the teachings of His word - Torah– added by author of blog)

We must not count persons who are called Christians by courtesy, but souls that are Christly in very fact because they have accepted the atoning Sacrifice and live before God as “redeemed from among men.”

Rev 14:4 …They are those following the Lamb wherever He leads them on. They were redeemed from among men, being first-fruits to Elohim and to the Lamb.

Observe that this Redemption, without which no man might rightly be numbered among the children of Israel, lest a plague should break out among them, must be personal and individual. There was not a lump sum to be paid for the nation, or 12 amounts for the 12 tribes—each man must bring his own half shekel for himself.

So there is no Redemption that will be of any use to any of you unless it is personally accepted and brought before YHVH by faith.

And it must be a Redemption that meets the Divine demand because, you see, the Master not only says that they must each bring half a shekel, no more, no less, but it must be, “the shekel of the sanctuary”—not the shekel of commerce, which might be debased in quality or diminished by wear and tear, but the coin must be according to the standard shekel laid up in the Set Apart Place. To make sure of it, Moses defines exactly how much a shekel was worth and what its weight was—“A shekel is twenty gerahs.” So you must bring to Yahveh the Redemption which He has appointed—the blood and righteousness of Messiah.

Now we turn to the second of our texts, and there we learn a very remarkable fact. In the 38th chapter, verse 25, we find that this mass of silver which was paid, whereby 603,050 men were redeemed, each one paying his half shekel, came to a great weight of silver. It must have weighed something over four tons and this was dedicated to the use of the Tabernacle— the special application of the precious metal was to make sockets into which the boards which made the walls of the Tabernacle should be placed. The mass of silver made up 100 sockets and these held up the 50 boards of the set apart place. They were in a wilderness, constantly moving and continually shifting the Tabernacle. Now, they might have dug out a foundation in the sand, or, on coming to a piece of rock where they could not dig, they might have cut out foundations with great toil. But the Master appointed that they should carry the foundation of the Tabernacle with them!
A talent of silver, weighing, I suppose, close upon 100 pounds, was either formed into the shape of a wedge, so as to be driven into the soil, or else made into a solid square plate to lie upon it.

The foundation of the worship of Israel was Redemption! The dwelling place of Yahveh their Elohim was founded on Atonement! All the boards of incorruptible wood and precious gold stood upon the Redemption price! The curtains of fine linen, the veil of matchless workmanship and the whole structure rested on nothing else but the solid mass of silver which had been paid as the Redemption money of the people! End quote.

2Sa 7:23  “And who is like Your people, like Yisra’ĕl, the one nation on the earth whom Elohim went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a Name, and to do for You greatness, and awesome deeds for Your land before Your people, whom You redeemed for Yourself from Mitsrayim, from the nations and their mighty ones?
2Sa 7:24  “And You have established for Yourself Your people Yisra’ĕl as Your own people forever, and You, יהוה, have become their Elohim.

The mishnah states:1 “On the first of Adar (The scriptural 12TH MONTH), public announcements are made concerning the shekalim.” Half a shekel was given annually in the times of the Beis HaMikdosh by every Jewish male over the age of twenty.

After the destruction of the Beis HaMikdosh, when it is no longer possible to fulfill the mitzvah of giving the shekel, the reading of the parshah in the Torah about the half-shekel substitutes for the actual giving. As our Sages have said: “Whoever engages in [the study of] the Torah of the sacrifices, it is counted as if he actually offered the sacrifices.” This section is always read on the Shabbos before Rosh Chodesh Adar (the first day of Adar).

Our Torah portion begins:

Exo 30:11  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 30:12  “When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to יהוה, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them.

If we directly translate the Hebrew of these verses it sounds completely different.

“ki tisa et rosh benei Yisrael” or “when you will lift up the head of the sons of Israel…”
This has been translated “when you take a census of the children of Israel”

“Lifkudei” is s a pual verb meaning to “call to account.”
“Ish koper” means “a sheltering ransom of a man”
Negef – a blow or a fatal plague
Kipod – pakad is pa al verb form meaning to pay attention the piel verb form is used and has a stronger sense of demanding someone’s attention like calling someone to account.

Note the use of the word “rosh” or “head” it is written in the singular. Note also the use of the words “ki tisa” can also be translated “because you will lift up..” (future tense)
The translators most probably experienced difficulty in trying to understand what the text was saying. It is possible that this scripture is trying to tell us the following:

“Because a time is coming when you will lift up the son of man who is the head of Israel” in him all those who are redeemed(ransomed)  will be counted”

It is rather conspicuous that the word “rashim” (plural for rosh) is not used. The use of “rosh” (singular) can mean one person who represents Israel. Yahshua Ha Mashiach.

This should cause us concern because regardless what we have been taught or accept about our right standing before YHVH it would serve us well to make sure that it is according to His righteous understanding and not that of an organization or individual.

Exo 30:13  “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, twenty gĕrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the contribution to יהוה.

When we bring our half shekel we are in fact stating that what we bring is incomplete and can only be completed by Yahshua himself. In a sense a half a shekel has no real value until it has been “completed” by the other half.

The Hebrew word “bekah” or half shekel (Shemot 38:26) actually means “to cleave or to rend to break open” all terms we associate with the execution of Messiah.

Exo 38:26  a beqa, half a sheqel for a head,(skull) according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, for everyone passing over to those counted, from twenty years old and above, for six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men.

כו  בֶּקַע, לַגֻּלְגֹּלֶת, מַחֲצִית הַשֶּׁקֶל, בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ

“beka gulgolet”  used for the counting of Yisrael implies the one “who is broken at Golgotha !”

It may be possible that many who claim to be saved are in actual fact not saved according to the teaching of ALL of scripture. These may have to go through the great tribulation – plague.

The gematria of “beka” is 172. We know that there are 172 words in the 10 sayings (incorrectly called the 10 commandments)
We are saved and redeemed not because we keep the Torah but we keep the Torah as an evidence of a genuine salvation and redemption. In fact it is the Torah that keeps and guards the redeemed.

Exo 30:14  “Everyone passing over to be registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to יהוה.
Exo 30:15  “The rich does not give more and the poor does not give less than half a sheqel, when you give a contribution to יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.
Exo 30:16  “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ĕl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ĕl for a remembrance before יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.”

Exo 30:17  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 30:18  “And you shall make a basin of bronze,
with its stand also of bronze, for washing. And you shall
put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and shall put water in it.
Exo 30:19  “And Aharon and his sons shall wash from it their hands and their feet.
Exo 30:20  “When they go into the Tent of Meeting, or when they come near the altar to attend, to burn an offering made by fire to יהוה, they wash with water, lest they die.
Exo 30:21  “And they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a law forever to them, to him and his seed throughout their generations.”

This basin was not meant to make them ritually clean. The priests would not be allowed to enter the tabernacle area if they were ritually unclean.

This washing of feet and hands by water may indicate that the priests were to be examples of how the nation of Yisrael was to walk – feet – and to do – hands. They were to instruct the people in the right ways or halachah.
Maybe it was also a reminder that the whole Aaronic priesthood was limited by the cleaning of the washing of water. Only the blood of Messiah can cleanse and remove the stain of sin and iniquity.

Maybe it was like going on a date with YHVH – you made sure your feet and hands were clean and then you anointed yourself so you could smell good in His presence. You were going out to have a meal with your Creator.

Exo 30:22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 30:23  “And take for yourself choice spices, five hundred sheqels of liquid myrrh, and half as much – two hundred and fifty – of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty of sweet-smelling cane,
Exo 30:24  and five hundred of cassia, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, and a hin of olive oil.
Exo 30:25  “And you shall make from these a set-apart anointing oil, a compound, blended, the work of a perfumer. It is a set-apart anointing oil.
Exo 30:26  “And with it you shall anoint the Tent of Meeting and the ark of the Witness,
Exo 30:27  and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense,
Exo 30:28  and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand.
Exo 30:29  “And you shall set them apart, and they shall be most set-apart. Whatever touches them is to be set-apart.
Exo 30:30  “And you shall anoint Aharon and his sons, and set them apart, to serve as priests to Me.
Exo 30:31  “And speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘This is a set-apart anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.
Exo 30:32  ‘It shall not be poured on the flesh of a man, and make no other like it, according to its composition. It is set-apart, it is set-apart to you.
Exo 30:33  ‘Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, shall be cut off from his people.’ ”
Exo 30:34  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Take sweet spices, fragrant gum and cinnamon and galbanam, and clear frankincense with these sweet spices, all in equal amounts.
Exo 30:35  “Then you shall make of these an incense, a compound, work of a perfumer, salted, clean, set-apart.
Exo 30:36  “And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Witness in the Tent of Meeting where I meet with you, it is most set-apart to you.
Exo 30:37  “And the incense which you make, do not make any for yourselves, according to its composition, it is set-apart to you for יהוה.
Exo 30:38  “Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.”

Parashat 20 Portion 67 -Shemot 30:1-11 Hafarah: Mal 1:11-2:7 Second Writings: Rev 8:1-5

Blessing for the Torah Reading:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

If we cannot exercise genuine regular effective prayer when we are not under pressure and persecution, we will find it even more difficult to exercise such prayer when our lives are under crisis. Sadly much prayer is made when in crisis situations. Such crisis prayer rarely reveals YHVH’s will and heart. Crisis prayers are made for immediate and pressing issues.
We have inherited a rich variety of prayers from our Jewish sages. The challenge is to pray even these ancient prayers from our heart so that they don’t just become a rote and ritual.

We see from the Scripture that these ancient Jewish prayers were prayed by the early Messianic community.

Act 2:42  And they were continuing steadfastly in the teaching of the emissaries, and in the fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers. (Note the use of definite article “the”- these were prayers that had been in existence for some time)

Prayer is both meant to be a spiritual discipline and well as a heavenly communication. It is often during times of dedicated prayer that we discover the heart and will of our Heavenly Father.

Our short Torah portion gives us insight into the life of prayer:

Exo 30:1  “And you shall make an altar to burn incense on, make it of acacia wood,

א  וְעָשִׂיתָ מִזְבֵּחַ, מִקְטַר קְטֹרֶת; עֲצֵי שִׁטִּים, תַּעֲשֶׂה אֹתוֹ.

We are reminded of the pattern of the fathers – Avraham, Yitzchak and Yakov: it was to pitch their tents, BUILD their altars and dig wells. (Ber/Gen 12:8; 26:25)
Our lives should follow the same pattern. An altar was a place where you met with your Creator. This was meant to be the one most important FIXED activity of our lives.

The incense was a very special incense made in a special way and only offered by Aaron or one of his sons or grandsons and their sons – a law forever.

The Torah instructions for the preparation of incense are found in Shemot/ Exodus 30:34, where four ingredients are mentioned--stacte, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincence.

Exo 30:37  “And the incense which you make, do not make any for yourselves, according to its composition, it is set-apart to you for יהוה.
Exo 30:38  “Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.”

Yahshua makes an interesting comment about prayer:

Mat 21:22  “And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

Mar 11:23  “For truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says, shall be done, he shall have whatever he says.
Mar 11:24  “Because of this I say to you, whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.
Mar 11:25  “And whenever you stand praying, if you hold whatever against anyone, forgive, so that your Father in the heavens shall also forgive you your trespasses.

Yochanan/John goes on to explain how prayer is answered:

1Jn 5:14  And this is the boldness that we have in Him, that if we ask whatever according to His desire, He hears us.
1Jn 5:15  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

WE CAN ONLY PRAY ACCORDING TO HIS WILL IF WE ARE LIVING IN HIS WILL.

Psa 66:18  If I have seen(or regarded) wickedness(Torahlessness) in my heart, יהוה would not hear.
Psa 66:19  Truly, Elohim has heard me; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
Psa 66:20  Blessed be Elohim, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His kindness from me!

Just because we cannot see Torahlessness/iniquity in our lives doesn’t mean it’s not there. Many would claim that there is no iniquity in their lives, yet the evidence says otherwise.

YHVH’s will is revealed in His Torah and explained in the rest of scripture.

Exo 30:2  a cubit long and a cubit wide – it is a square – and two cubits high, its horns of the same.

Perhaps this one cubit (approx. 21 inches – from elbow to the tip of hand) was the standard measuring unit used to measure and build the entire Tabernacle.

All the functioning of the tabernacle would be measured and based on the prayer life of the priesthood.
Our bodies are tabernacles and we too are called to be priests – our proper functioning in this world will be based upon our prayer life.

Perhaps this is why the first day man celebrated on earth after he was created was the Sabbath.

This Torah portion reveals one the secrets of effective prayer:
The incense that was burned is symbolic of our lives.

2Co 2:14  But thanks be to Elohim who always leads us on, to overcome in Messiah, and manifests through us the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
2Co 2:15  Because we are to Elohim the fragrance of Messiah among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

These spices used to make this incense were obtained through a process of crushing and breaking. We too only become a fragrance when we have died to ourselves and allowed the Ruach to extract a fragrance from our broken yielded lives that compares to that which came from Messiah’s life.

Exo 30:3  “And you shall overlay its top, and its sides all around, and its horns with clean gold. And you shall make for it a moulding of gold all around.
Exo 30:4  “And make two gold rings for it, under the moulding on both its sides. Make them on its two sides, and they shall be holders for the poles to lift it with.
Exo 30:5  “And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.
Exo 30:6  “And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Witness, before the lid of atonement that is over the Witness, where I am to meet with you.
Exo 30:7  “And Aharon shall burn on it sweet incense, morning by morning. As he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.

Exo 30:8  “And when Aharon lights the lamps between the evenings, he shall burn incense on it – a continual incense before יהוה throughout your generations.

Perhaps one of the greatest incentives for us to pray is to see a set apart priesthood PRAYING.

Exo 30:9  “Do not offer strange incense on it, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.

This is what caused the death of Aaron’s two sons – (Vayikra/Lev 10:2)

Exo 30:10  “And Aharon shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement – once a year he makes atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most set-apart to יהוה.”

Prayer, more than any other spiritual activity makes us aware of how powerless we really are to bring about lasting and significant change to our lives and to the world around us.
Everything about our lives and the world around will be tested by fire and only that which is built on the foundation of Messiah will last and bring reward in the life to come.

1Co 3:11  For no one is able to lay any other foundation except that which is laid, which is יהושע Messiah.
1Co 3:12  And if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
1Co 3:13  each one’s work shall be revealed, for the day shall show it up, because it is revealed by fire. And the fire shall prove the work of each one, what sort it is.
1Co 3:14  If anyone’s work remains, which he has built on, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15  If anyone’s work is burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

The foundation that YHVH will build upon is one that is laid in prayer and meditation of His Torah.
We do not always know how to pray as we ought.

Rom 8:26  And in the same way the Spirit does help in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray, but the Spirit Himself pleads our case for us with groanings unutterable.
Rom 8:27  And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the set-apart ones according to Elohim.

We have a heritage of sages both Jew and Christian that have gone before us and have laid down foundations and prayers that they have received while travailing in prayer and passed on to future generations.

Here are some examples for us to follow:

Shofar sound and Shabbat music for Shabbat:

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

Parashat 20 Portion 66 -Shemot 29:1-46 Haftarah: Yesh 61:7- 62:5 Second Writings: Heb 2:10-18

Ameyn.)

One of the greatest surprises waiting for us before and when Yahshua returns to rule and reign over all the earth is going to be in the area of personal relationships. I believe this is true because in Hebraic thinking truth has two wings – the physical and the spiritual – these two realms will be restored to be in perfect harmony with each other. Looking at the present state of relationships in the world as well as within families and including the believing community makes us realize that we have a  v e r y  l o n g way to go.

When Yahshua returns he is not going to wave a magic wand and all relationships are going to be in perfect harmony. It will take one thousand years to reach perfect maturity and unity amongst Yisrael and the nations of the world. There will be one last final rebellion when ha Satan is released from his chains and after that never again will there be disunity amongst mankind.

At last the Torah will be our final authority over all relationships, personal conduct and worship. Yahshua had a very good reason in mind when he said that heaven and earth would pass away but not one word (jot or tittel) of the Torah – Mat 5:17-19.

Why stick around for one thousand years if we and everything about our lives and worship is going to be perfect.

Let’s look once again at what happens when the Covenant is renewed in our hearts.
Jer 31:31  “See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall make a new covenant with the house of Yisra’ĕl and with the house of Yehuḏah1, Footnote: 1See Heb. 8:8-12, Heb. 10:16-17.
Jer 31:32  not like the covenant I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares יהוה.
Jer 31:33  “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ĕl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
Jer 31:34  “And no longer shall they teach, each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know יהוה,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares יהוה. “For I shall forgive their crookedness, and remember their sin no more.”

We look at this scripture and somehow think that we will not have to be taught Torah. That’s not what the scripture says. It says we will not have to be taught to know YHVH. That is why the “shemah” is so central to our faith. The sad commentary of many believers is that we do not know YHVH as He is meant to be known.

I believe we need to fear YHVH knowing that He will never allow anyone in His presence who has a history of unresolved conflicts in his or her life. That’s why we will be placed in tribes to work out our differences and come into a perfect unity of the faith during the millennium.

Yahshua said that we were not to even bring an offering (by the way there will be offerings in the millennium) if we knew that a brother had some grievance against us.

Mat 5:23  “If, then, you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother holds whatever against you,
Mat 5:24  leave your gift there before the altar, and go, first make peace with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Mat 5:25  “Be well-minded with your opponent, promptly, while you are on the way with him, lest your opponent deliver you to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
Mat 5:26  “Truly, I say to you, you shall by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

Reconciliation is more important than bringing an offering and worship to YHVH with a wrong heart.
Perhaps the remainder of these verses imply that strong demonic bondages come upon us when we leave the door open in the area of troubled or broken relationships.
Shaul addresses this very critical situation when he says:

1Co 11:27  So that whoever should eat this bread or drink this cup of the Master unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Master.
1Co 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup.
1Co 11:29  For the one who is eating and drinking unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Master.
1Co 11:30  Because of this many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
1Co 11:31  For if we were to examine ourselves, we would not be judged.
1Co 11:32  But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Master, that we should not be condemned with the world.

The problem of unresolved conflict and unconfessed sin is so huge that it will take the devastation of the great tribulation to bring us to our senses.

Our Torah portion begins:

Exo 29:1  “And this is the task you shall do to them to set them apart to serve Me as priests: Take one young bull and two rams, perfect ones,

א  וְזֶה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-תַּעֲשֶׂה לָהֶם

Note the use of the word “davar” in Hebrew which means “word or thing” The sages say that the word “davar” is used so that when there is no temple so that we would always be reminded that while heaven and earth were still in existence this “word” too was valid and to be obeyed for an appointed time when the temple service and priesthood would be restored.

Exo 29:2  and unleavened bread, and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil – make these of wheat flour.
Exo 29:3  “And you shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.
Exo 29:4  “Then you shall bring Aharon and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and wash them with water.
Exo 29:5  “And you shall take the garments, and shall put on Aharon the long shirt, and the robe of the shoulder garment, and the shoulder garment, and the breastplate, and shall gird him with the embroidered band of the shoulder garment,
Exo 29:6  and shall put the turban on his head, and shall put the set-apart sign of dedication on the turban,
Exo 29:7  and shall take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head and anoint him.
Exo 29:8  “Then you shall bring his sons and put long shirts on them,
Exo 29:9  and shall gird them with girdles – Aharon and his sons – and put the turbans on them. And the priesthood shall be theirs for an everlasting law. So you shall ordain Aharon and his sons.

It was only Aaron and his sons and their descendants who could enter into the set apart place to minister at the table of show bread and the altar of incense and to keep the Menorah burning. Only Aaron and his sons and those of their descendants appointed as High Priests could enter into the Most Set Apart place once a year during Yom Ha Kippurim. Sadly in later years this began to change as spiritual corruption began to prevail amongst the priesthood. (Korach and his followers till this day question this Aaronic authority)

This problem of rejection of YHVH’s appointed authority is very deeply rooted in those who call themselves believers.
Most people who claim to have a relationship with “Christ” would undoubtedly reject the true Messiah if he were to suddenly appear to them today.
So deep was the rejection of YHVH’s authority in Yahshua’s day that the religious elite along with the majority of their followers executed the Messiah while he was here on earth 2000 years ago.

The same hateful attitude still lives on even in our day when believers are challenged with that fact that Yahshua the anointed One was a Jewish rabbi who taught Torah observance.

Exo 29:10  “And you shall bring near the bull before the Tent of Meeting, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull.
Exo 29:11  “And you shall slaughter the bull before יהוה, by the door of the Tent of Meeting,
Exo 29:12  and take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the base of the altar.
Exo 29:13  “And you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar.
Exo 29:14  “But the flesh of the bull, and its skin and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside the camp. It is a sin offering.

Yahshua was presented as the perfect sin offering OUTSIDE the camp as well.

Exo 29:15  “And take one ram, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram,
Exo 29:16  and you shall slaughter the ram, and you shall take its blood and sprinkle it all around on the altar.
Exo 29:17  “And cut the ram in pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and place them upon its pieces and on its head.
Exo 29:18  “And you shall burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to יהוה, it is a sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to יהוה.
Exo 29:19  “And you shall take the second ram, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram,
Exo 29:20  and you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aharon and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar.
Exo 29:21  “And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aharon and on his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him. And he and his garments shall be set-apart, and his sons and the garments of his sons with him.
Exo 29:22  “And you shall take the fat of the ram, and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat on them, and the right thigh – it is for a ram of ordination –
Exo 29:23  and one loaf of bread, and one cake made with oil, and one thin cake from the basket of the unleavened bread that is before יהוה.
Exo 29:24  “And you shall put all these in the hands of Aharon and in the hands of his sons, and you shall wave them – a wave offering before יהוה.
Exo 29:25  “Then you shall take them from their hands and burn them on the altar as a burnt offering, as a sweet fragrance before יהוה. It is an offering made by fire to יהוה.
Exo 29:26  “And you shall take the breast of the ram of Aharon’s ordination and wave it – a wave offering before יהוה, and it shall be your portion.
Exo 29:27  “And from the ram of ordination you shall set apart the breast of the wave offering which is waved, and the thigh of the contribution which is raised, of that which is for Aharon and of that which is for his sons.

Exo 29:28  “And it shall be from the children of Yisra’ĕl for Aharon and his sons by a law forever, for it is a contribution. And it is a contribution from (with) the children of Yisra’ĕl from their peace offerings – their contribution to יהוה.

Tim Hegg makes an interesting comment on this verse which is implied by the Hebrew text that this second offering or peace offering was shared by the Aaronic priesthood with fellow Yisraelites. Foreigners (zar) were not permitted to partake. Imagine the honour of sharing this second wave or peace offering with a fellow high priest.

Exo 29:29  “And the set-apart garments of Aharon are for his sons after him, to be anointed in them and to be ordained in them.

The Hebrew word for ordained literally means to “fill the hands” This could imply that priests received in their hands blessings from YHVH that they were to pass on to the Yisraelites. Laying on of hands is not some new church invention it comes from ancient Hebraic times.
Laying on of hands requires an act of submission from the one receiving the blessing.

Exo 29:30  “The priest from his sons in his place, puts them on for seven days, when he enters the Tent of Meeting to attend in the set-apart place.
Exo 29:31  “And take the ram of ordination and cook its flesh in a set-apart place.
Exo 29:32  “And Aharon and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, by the door of the Tent of Meeting,
Exo 29:33  and they shall eat those offerings with which the atonement was made, to ordain them, to set them apart. But let a stranger not eat them, because they are set-apart.
Exo 29:34  “And if any of the flesh of the ordination offerings, or of the bread, be left over until the morning, then you shall burn up what is left over. It is not eaten, because it is set-apart.
Exo 29:35  “And so you shall do to Aharon and his sons, according to all I have commanded you. Seven days you shall ordain them,
Exo 29:36  and prepare a bull each day as a sin offering for atonement. And you shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to set it apart.
Exo 29:37  “For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and set it apart. And the altar shall be most set-apart – whatever touches the altar is to be set-apart.
Exo 29:38  “And this is what you prepare on the altar: two lambs, a year old, daily, continually.
Exo 29:39  “Prepare the one lamb in the morning, and the other lamb you prepare between the evenings,
Exo 29:40  and one-tenth of an ĕphah of flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of pressed oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering, with the one lamb.
Exo 29:41  “And prepare the other lamb between the evenings. And with it prepare the grain offering and the drink offering, as in the morning, for a sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to יהוה
Exo 29:42  a continual burnt offering for your generations at the door of the Tent of Meeting before יהוה, where I shall meet with you to speak with you.
Exo 29:43  “And there I shall meet with the children of Yisra’ĕl, and it shall be set apart by My esteem.
Exo 29:44  “And I shall set apart the Tent of Meeting and the altar. And Aharon and his sons I set apart to serve as priests to Me.
Exo 29:45  “And I shall dwell in the midst of the children of Yisra’ĕl and shall be their Elohim.
Exo 29:46  “And they shall know that I am יהוה their Elohim, who brought them up out of the land of Mitsrayim, to dwell in their midst. I am יהוה their Elohim.

Any priesthood which is appointed by men and not by YHVH and does not teach and proclaim obedience to Torah IS A FALSE PRIESTHOOD.
Shaul addresses this issue of a priesthood that was meant to lead YHVH’s people onto maturity.

Heb 5:1  For every priest taken from among men is(present passive nominative 3person sing) appointed(present tense) on behalf of men in matters relating to Elohim, to offer(present tense) both gifts and offerings for sins,
Heb 5:2  being able to have a measure of feeling for those not knowing and being led astray, since he himself is also surrounded by weakness.
Heb 5:3  And on account of this he has to offer for sins – as for the people, so also for himself.
Heb 5:4  And no one obtains this esteem for himself, but he who is called by Elohim, even as Aharon also was.
Heb 5:5  So also the Messiah did not extol Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him, “You are My Son, today I have brought You forth.”1 Footnote: 1See 1:5, Ps. 2:7.
Heb 5:6  As He also says in another place, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq,”1 Footnote: 1Ps. 110:4.
Heb 5:7  who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His reverent fear,
Heb 5:8  though being a Son, He learned obedience by what He suffered.
Heb 5:9  And having been perfected, He became the Causer of everlasting deliverance to all those obeying Him,
Heb 5:10  having been designated by Elohim a High Priest “according to the order of Malkitseḏeq,”
Heb 5:11  concerning whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
Heb 5:12  For indeed, although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first elements of the Words of Elohim. And you have become such as need milk and not solid food.
Heb 5:13  For everyone partaking of milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14  But solid food is for the mature whose senses have been trained by practice to discern both good
