Parashat 3 Portion 10 “Lech lecha’’ Ber 14:1-24

Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Amein.

 Summary:

This Torah portion introduces a pattern that would repeat itself over and over again throughout history – violence against a set apart seed.

We continue with Parashat ‘Lech lecha’’ ‘’lech’’ is a Hebrew command to ‘’walk’’ or ‘’halach’’ ‘’lecha’’ (preposition with a pronoun – ‘’towards yourself’’) Taking responsibility to discover our purpose and journey here on earth. We do the ‘’walking’’ Choosing the right path in life is determined by walking in the footsteps of Messiah. 1Jn 2:6  The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.

Interestingly and perhaps not co incidental the human foot has 26 bones. The name of YHVH has a Hebrew numerical value of 26. Yud = 10, hey = 5, vav = 6, hey =5 - total = 26.

Zec 3:7  “Thus said יהוה of hosts, ‘If you walk (halach) in My ways, and if you guard My duty, then you shall also rule in My house, and also guard My courts. And I shall give you access (halach) among those stationed there.

Summarizing Ber 14:1-24 ‘’Verses 1-12 We have here an account of the first war that we read of in scripture. A war between those who would bless Abrahams promised seed and those who despised and refused to bless YHVH’s choice of the promised seed.

Verses 13-16 Abram didn’t start this war but was supernaturally empowered to end it.

The Battle of the Valley of Siddim, also often called the War of Nine Kings or the Slaughter of Chedorlaomer,Persian king) is an event in the Hebrew Scriptures in the book of Genesis 14:1–17 that occurs in the days of Abram and Lot. The Valley of Siddim was the battleground for the cities of the Jordan River plain revolting against Mesopotamian rule

The Book of Genesis explains that during the days of Lot, the valley of Siddim was a river valley where the Battle of Siddim occurred between four Mesopotamian armies and five cities of the Jordan plain. According to the biblical account, before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Elamite King Chedorlaomer had subdued the tribes and cities surrounding the Jordan River plain. After 13 years, four kings of the cities of the Jordan plain revolted against Chedorlaomer's rule. In response, Chedorlaomer and three other kings started a campaign against King Bera of Sodom and four other allied kings.

The Northern forces overwhelmed the Southern kings of the Jordan plain, driving some of them into the asphalt or tar pits that littered the valley. Those who escaped fled to the mountains, including the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah. These two cities were then spoiled of their goods and provisions and some of their citizens were captured. Among the captives was Abram's nephew, Lot.

When word reached Abram while he was staying in Elonei Mamrei – Hevron - with Aner and Eshcol, (allies of Abraham) he immediately mounted a rescue operation, arming 318 of his trained servants, who went in pursuit of the enemy armies that were returning to their homelands. They caught up with them in the city of Dan, flanking the enemy on multiple sides during a night raid. The attack ran its course as far as Hobah, north of Damascus, where he defeated Chedorlaomer and his forces. Abram recovered all the goods and the captives (including Lot).

After the battle, Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine and blessed Abram, who gave him a tenth of the plunder as tithes. Then Bera, king of Sodom, came to Abram and thanked him, requesting that he keep the plunder but return his people. Abram declined, saying, "I swore I would never take anything from you, so you can never say 'I have made Abram rich.'" What Abram accepted from Bera instead was food for his 318 men and his Amorite neighbours. Wikipedia

יהי בימי אמרפל - And it came to be in the days of Amraphel

Gen 14:1  And it came to be in the days of Amraphel sovereign of Shin‛ar, Aryo sovereign of Ellasar, Keorla‛omer sovereign of Ěylam, (Persia/Iran) and Ti‛al sovereign of Goyim,(King of the nations)

According to Rabbinic tradition, Amraphel is Nimrod, the mighty hunter who built Babel and led the world’s first rebellion against YHVH. His name reflects both his speech and his darkness: he “said (amar)” and “caused to fall (hiphil nefilah).”

It implies a deceiver through speech — one who uses words to obscure truth and lead others into spiritual ruin.  Amar (אָמַר) — “he said,” or “word/speech.”   Phel (פֶל) — from the root npl (“to fall”) or apel (“dark”), as in “aphelah” — “darkness.”

(Arioch (אַרְיוֹךְ) Meaning: “Fierce lion,” “lion-like,” or “ferocious one.”)

Ellasar (אֶלָּסָר) — The Domain of Shadowed Power - El = “God” or “divine power.”  Asar or Lassar could mean “hidden” or “restrained.” Mystically, Ellasar can be read as “Divine power hidden in constraint” — the potential of Gevurah (strength) distorted into oppression. (religion?)

The name Kedorlaomer comes from an Elamite/Akkadian source, often transcribed Kutir-Lagamāl. Kutir / Kedor ≈ “servant” or “bound one.” In Midrash  Kedorlaomer represents harsh decree and enslavement: He subjugates the five cities for twelve years → symbol of long oppression by the powers of cruel justice. ( Ěylam, (Persia modern day Iran)

There is hope of restoration even for Elam/Iran:

Jeremiah 49:34–39 — Elam’s bow will be broken, but YHVH will “set His throne in Elam.”

"A confederation of Kings, from the Persian Gulf who took the trouble to attack the 5 little Cities of the Plain. An empire as large as Assyria or Babylon or Persia, not ruled by one country or one King but a confederation, defeated by Abraham and 318 of his household’’.

The gematria of Abram’s chief servant, Eliezer אליעזר is 318, the number of initiates that Abraham took with him to battle. (Eliezer means ‘’Elohim will help, similar to ‘’parakletos’’ in Greek – Joh 14:16  “And I shall ask the Father, and He shall give you another Helper, to stay with you forever).

Yasher 16:2 - 2. And these four kings went up with all their camps, about eight hundred thousand men, and they went as they were, and smote every man they found in their road

Siddim, Sodom, Gomorrah, and others — aren’t random geography; according to the midrash, they carry spiritual codes describing demonic forces and archetypes, that would seek to destroy the promised seed right throughout history.

Gen 14:2  that they fought against Bera (son of evil) sovereign of Seḏom, Birsha(iniquity) sovereign of Amorah, Shinaḇ (father of changing) - sovereign of Aḏmah, Shem’ĕḇer sovereign of Tseḇoyim, and the sovereign of Bela, that is Tsoʽar.  –

Gen 14:3  All these joined together in the Valley of Siddim, that is the Salt Sea -‘’valley of Siddim is found only three times in the Scriptures – Gen 14:3,8,10)

Midrash: The Valey of Siddim symbolizes a spiritual descent — a place of corruption, lust, and rebellion against divine order. “Siddim” may not mean “demons,(shedim)” but it represents the energetic territory of the demonic — the region of moral collapse and divine absence, where Sodom thrived. This area around the dead sea is the lowest place on earth 1,300 feet (430 meters) below sea level – before its destruction it looked like ‘’Amazon forest’’.

Gen 14:4  Twelve years they served Keḏorlaʽomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

Gen 14:5 And in the fourteenth year Keḏorlaʽomer and the sovereigns that were with him came and smote the Rephaim (Bashan) in Ashteroth Qarnayim, (goddess Astarte) and the Zuzim in Ḥam,(not Noahs son) and the Ěmites (giants)in Shawĕh Qiryathayim,

Gen 14:6  and the Ḥorites (cave dwellers) in their mountain of Sĕʽir, as far as Ěl Paran, which is by the wilderness. (later became stronghold of Edomites – also possible location of Petra))

Gen 14:7 And they (conquerers)turned back and came to Ěn Mishpat, that is Qaḏĕsh, and smote all the country of the Amalĕqites, and also the Amorites who dwelt in Ḥatsetson Tamar.

Gen 14:8 And the sovereign of Seḏom, and the sovereign of Amorah, and the sovereign of Aḏmah, and the sovereign of Tseḇoyim, and the sovereign of Bela, that is Tsoʽar, went out and joined together in battle in the Valley of Siddim,

Gen 14:9 against Keḏorlaʽomer sovereign of Ěylam, and Tiḏʽal sovereign of Goyim, and Amraphel sovereign of Shinʽar, and Aryoḵ sovereign of Ellasar four sovereigns against five.

Gen 14:10 And the Valley of Siddim had many tar pits. And the sovereigns of Seḏom and Amorah fled and fell there, and the remainder fled to the mountains.

Gen 14:11 And they took all the goods of Seḏom and Amorah, and all their food, and went away.

Gen 14:12  And they took Lot, Aḇrams brothers son who dwelt in Seḏom, and his goods, and left.

No direct biblical connection exists between these 9 kings in Genesis 9 and the ten kings in Daniel 7:24 and Rev 17:12— they illustrate the Scripture’s overarching theme of rising and falling powers in history, those seeking to destroy the promised seed.

Gen 14:13  And one who had escaped came and informed Aḇram the Heḇrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamrĕ the Amorite, brother of Eshkol and brother of Anĕr, and they had a covenant with Aḇram.

Mamre – strength of fatness also bitterness – Gen 18:1 Promise of Yitzchak was given at Mamre. Avraham’s wife was buried in a cave – Machpelah near Mamre – Gen 23:16-19. All the patriachs and their wives (except Rachel) buried there.

Gen 14:14 And when Aḇram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

Gen 14:15 And he and his servants divided against them by night and smote them and pursued them as far as Ḥoḇah,( "hiding place" or "place of concealment".) which is on the left of Damascus. Rev 6:15-17

Gen 14:16 So he brought back all the goods and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.

Gen 14:17 And after his return from the defeat of Keḏorlaʽomer and the sovereigns who were with him, the sovereign of Seḏom came out to meet him at the Valley of Shawĕh, that is, the Sovereigns Valley. (‘’ Shawĕh’’ meaning level – only found once in scriptures)

Gen 14:18  And Malkitseḏeq sovereign of Shalĕm brought out bread and wine. Now he was the priest of the Most High Ěl.

"There is no city as Biblical as Jerusalem, but it was neither built nor named by the Israelites. Remnants of a Canaanite town called Salem date back to the early bronze age, and the first Biblical mention of this place is in Genesis 14:18, where Abraham and Melchizedek meet

Perhaps the name Jerusalem was never changed, but only Hebraized, because it seems to mean Reign of Peace.

Jerusalem was to be the radiating heart of a world of completeness and wholeness. It seems that history supplied her with a most suiting name – Abiram publications.’’

Gen 14:19 And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Aḇram of the Most High Ěl, Possessor of the heavens and earth.

Gen 14:20 “And blessed be the Most High Ěl who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tenth of all.

The significance about Melchizedek was not only the place of His rule and ministry in Yerushalayim; but that he operated in two offices as both priest and king. He has been recognized as the father of the Semetic race who would carry the seed of Messiah.

Gen 14:21 And the sovereign of Seḏom said to Aḇram, Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself.

Gen 14:22 But Aḇram said to the sovereign of Seḏom, I have lifted my hand to יהוה, the Most High Ěl, the Possessor of the heavens and earth,

Gen 14:23 not to take a thread or a sandal strap or whatever is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Aḇram rich,

Gen 14:24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Anĕr, Eshkol, and Mamrĕ. Let them take their portion.”

Abram knew that he couldn’t take any reward or credit for the enormous victory YHVH had given him.

Heb 7:1 For this Malkitseḏeq, sovereign of Shalĕm, priest of the Most High Elohim, who met Aḇraham returning from the slaughter of the sovereigns and blessed him,

Heb 7:2  to whom also Aḇraham gave a tenth part of all, his name being translated, indeed, first, ‘sovereign of righteousness,’ and then also sovereign of Shalĕm, that is, ‘sovereign of peace,’Heb 7:3  without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but having been made like the Son of Elohim, remains a priest for all time.

7 Reasons Why Melchizedek is NOT Christ || Spiritual Insights

‘’The pre-existence of Christ is a central tenet of mainstream Christianity. It explores the nature of Christ's pre-existence as the Divine fundamental reality that supports all truth regarding the Logos or Word, described in John 1:1–18, ‘’Today there are many believers who question the truth of this doctrine.

Belief in a pre-existing “God the Son” diminishes the full force of the gospel message by shifting focus from the Saviour’s triumphant resurrection to his assumed pre-existence.

The concept of a pre-incarnate Christ is a fundamental doctrine in Roman Catholicism, affirming that the second person of the Trinity, God the Son (the Logos), existed before his incarnation as Jesus.

Gen 14:18  And Malkitseḏeq sovereign of Shalĕm brought out bread and wine. Now he was the priest of the Most High Ěl.

The events of this Torah portion conclude with Abram bringing a tithe of the spoils to the righteous king of Jerusalem – Melchizedek.

This Torah portion introduces a pattern that would repeat itself over and over again throughout history – violence against a set apart seed.

In the last days a false Malkitseḏeq presenting himself as the ‘’pre incarnate’’ Christ will form an evil trinitarian alliance with Satan, the Beast and the false prophet – Rev 12:9, (the dragon, satan himself presenting himself as YHVH the Father) Rev 13:1-10,(Beast or Antichrist) Rev 13:11-18 – (The false prophet) This will be an alliance presenting itself as ‘’holy’’ but will deceive almost the whole world –

Rev 12:9  And the great dragon was thrown out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who leads all the world astray. He was thrown to the earth, and his messengers were thrown out with him.

The aim of this unholy alliance will be to gather as many nations and people possible, even summonsing demonic hybrid creatures to completely and utterly destroy those who have an Israelite spirit – the spiritual seed of Abraham.

These two verses describe Abraham’s seed.

Gen 22:17  that I shall certainly bless you, and I shall certainly increase your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore, and let your seed possess the gate of their enemies.

Gen 22:18  “And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

Is it possible that Abraham had a spiritual seed (stars) and a physical seed (sand – Heb chol)?

Lev 10:10 states that the Levites were to make a distinction between the set-apart and the profane,(Heb ‘’chol’’ or common) and between the unclean and the clean,

1Pe 1:23  having been born again – not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible – through the living Word of Elohim, which remains forever,

‘’Modern man with his modern religion (‘’chol’’) continues to pursue his self-interests and allows his being to be incestuously impregnated by a corrupted seed that comes from his own religious culture rejecting the perfect seed that comes from the Word of YHVH.’’ (Lot and his two daughters)

Additional Midrash:

1Jn 3:9  Everyone having been born of Elohim does not sin, because His seed ( (σπέρμα – Sperma )stays in him, and he is powerless to sin, because he has been born of Elohim.

When someone is born of YHVH, they receive His divine life (“seed”).

That life changes their nature, so sin no longer defines them.

The believer may stumble, but cannot live comfortably in sin, because YHVH’s seed abides within — constantly drawing them back to righteousness.

This is covenant language describing the Divine Marriage, an encounter of absolute singularity.

Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah also did love the assembly and gave Himself for it,

Eph 5:26  in order to set it apart and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word,f Footnote: f Rev_19:8-9

Eph 5:27  in order to present it to Himself a splendid assembly, not having spot or wrinkle or any of this sort, but that it might be set-apart and blameless.

the phrase “to Himself” in Ephesians 5:27 (Greek: να παραστήσ ατν αυτ) has sparked debate among scholars and translators.

Paraphrased Rendering

“So that He (Yahshua) might present the ‘’ekklessia’’, glorious and flawless, belonging to Him, (YHVH) for His own delight.” This keeps the reflexive nuance of heautō but expresses the relational intent more clearly. In other words, the clear intention of Messiah is to present to His Father a Bride without spot or wrinkle.

Isaiah 54:5 – “For your Maker is your husband, YHWH of hosts is His Name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.”

Jeremiah 3:14 – “Return, O backsliding children, says YHWH; for I am married to you.”

Hosea 2:19–20 – “I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and compassion.”

And this will be the cause of these wars until the end of days – between those who have more than one husband and receive mixed seed and those who have only one Husband and receive only His Seed.

There is a law against mixing seed.

Deu 22:9  “Do not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.

Deu 22:10  “Do not plough with an ox and a donkey together.

Deu 22:11  “Do not put on a garment of different kinds, of wool and linen together.

Deu 22:12  “Make tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.

Num 15:39  “And it shall be to you for a tzitzitb, and you shall see it, and shall remember all the commands of יהוה and shall do them, and not search after your own heart and your own eyes after which you went whoring, Footnote: bSee Explanatory Notes - “Tzitzit”.

Num 15:40  so that you remember, and shall do all My commands, and be set-apart unto your Elohim.c Footnote: cAlso see Exo_20:6, Deu_7:9, Deu_11:1, Deu_30:16, Neh_1:5, Dan_9:4, 1Jn_5:2-3, 2Jn_1:6

1Jn 4:1  Beloved ones, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of Elohim, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1Jn 4:2  By this you know the Spirit of Elohim: Every spirit that confesses that יהושע Messiah has come in the flesh is of Elohim,

1Jn 4:3  and every spirit that does not confess that יהושע Messiah has come in the flesh is not of Elohim. And this is the spirit of the anti-messiah which you heard is coming, and now is already in the world.

If you get Yahshua wrong, you get everything wrong, if you get Yahshua right eventually you will get everything right.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
