Blessed are You,
YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His
commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah.

Some believers refer
to this Torah portion as ‘’dealing with the “weightier matters of the Torah’’
Mat 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! Because you tithe the mint and the anise and the cumin, and have
neglected the weightier matters of the Torah: the (right-ruling – Heb.
‘’mishpatim’’) and the compassion and the belief.d These need to have been
done, without neglecting the others. Footnote: dThe wording in Luk_11:42
is somewhat different.
כי־יהיה
בך אביון when
there is with you a needy person….
15:7 In case there should be among you a needy אביוןperson, one of your brothers
within one of your gates in your land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you,
you shall neither make your heart rigid nor shut your hand from your needy
אביון brother. 8 Rather you shall open, yea open
your hand to him and let him give security, yea security מַחְסוֹר sufficient for his lack that is lacking to him. (not a
free handout – מַחְסוֹר – to pawn until the shmittah)
Deu 15:8 כי־פתח תפתח את־ידך לו והעבט תעביטנו
די מחסרו אשׁר יחסר לו׃
Deu
15:9 “Be on guard lest there be a thought of Beliya‛al in your heart,
saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is near,’ and your eye is evil
against your poor brother and you give him naught. And he shall cry out to יהוה against you, and it shall be
a sin in you.
‘’Beliyaal’’
also means to “seek profit through wickedness” revealing the true condition of
our hearts.
Sadly, to
this day most believers fail to embrace and obey YHVH’s laws.

2:24 For “The Name of Elohim is blasphemed among the nations because
of you,” Isa_52:5 as it has been written.
Deu
15:10 “You shall certainly give to him, נתון תתן and your heart should not be
grieved when you give to him, בתתך because for this reason יהוה your Elohim does bless you in
all your works and in all to which you put your hand.
Deu
15:11 “Because the poor one does not cease from the land. Therefore I am
commanding you, saying, ‘You shall certainly open your hand to your brother, to
your poor and to your needy one, in your land.’
11 Since the needy אביון shall not leave off from being within the land,
therefore I am instructing you, saying:You shall open, yea open your
hand פתח תפתח to your brother, to your humble and to your needy
in your land. 12 In case your brother should be sold
to you, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, who has served you six years, then in
the seventh year you shall dismiss him from you free. 13 And when you dismiss him from you
free you shall not send him away empty-handed. 14 העניק תעניק ,(richly
supply him) You shall furnish, yea furnish him some from your flock from your
threshing site and from your wine vat; just as Yahweh your Elohim has blessed
you shall you give to him. 15 Remember that you had become a
servant in the country of Egypt, and Yahweh your Elohim ransomed you. Therefore
I am instructing you to obey this word today.
16 But it may be that he says to you:I
shall not go forth from you, since he loves you and your household because it
was well for him with you. 17 Then you take an awl and put it
through his ear and into the door, and he will come to be your servant forever;
and so you shall do to your maidservant too.
It appears
that some people are better off been under some form of supervision over their
lives forever – see vs 17 – There seem to different aspects to this instruction
found in Shemot 21 and Vayikra 25. Hebrew slaves were encouraged to return to
their family inheritance in the year of Jubilee. Hebrew slaves were not meant
to be slaves forever. Woman slaves were to be treated differently- with great
respect. see Shemot 21.
Exo 21:1 “These are the right-rulings which
you are to set before them:
Exo 21:2 “When you buy a Hebrew servant, he serves
six years, and in the seventh he goes out free, for naught.
Exo 21:3 “If he comes in by himself, he goes out by
himself; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him.
Exo 21:4 “If his master has given him a wife, and
she has borne him sons or daughters, the wife and her children are her
master’s, and he goes out by himself.
Exo 21:5 “And if the servant truly says, ‘I love my
master, my wife, and my children, let me not go out free,’
Exo 21:6 then his master shall bring him before
Elohim, and shall bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master
shall pierce his ear with an awl. And he shall serve him forever.
Exo 21:7 “And when a man sells his daughter to be a
female servant, she does not go out as the male servants do.
Exo 21:8 “If she is displeasing in the eyes of her
master who has engaged her to himself, then he shall let her be ransomed. He
shall have no authority to sell her to a foreign people, because of him
deceiving her.
Exo 21:9 “And if he has engaged her to his son, he
is to do to her as is the right of daughters.
Exo 21:10 “If he takes another wife, her
food, her covering, and her marriage rights are not to be diminished.
Exo 21:11 “And if he does not do these three for
her, then she shall go out for naught, without silver
Even
Messiah submitted Himself to His Master for ever and ever.
Messiah
himself is prophetically spoken of as submitting to His Master in a similar
way.
Isa
50:5 The Master יהוה has
opened My ear, and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away. Isa
50:6 I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who
plucked out the beard, I did not hide My face from humiliation and
spitting.
18 It should not seem hard in your eyes
when you dismiss him from you free because he was worth double the hire of a
hireling when he served you six years. So Yahweh your Elohim will bless you in
all that you shall do.
Deu
15:19 “Set apart to יהוה your Elohim all the
first-born males that come from your herd and your flock. Do no work with the
first-born of your herd, nor shear the first-born of your flock.
Col

Heb
1:6
And when He again brings the first-born into the world, He says, “Let all
the messengers of Elohim do reverence to Him.
20 You shall eat it before Yahweh your
Elohim year by year in the place that Yahweh shall choose, you and your
household. 21 Yet in case there should be a blemish
in it, lame or blind, any bad blemish, you shall not sacrifice it to Yahweh
your Elohim. 22 Within your gates you may eat it, the
unclean among you and the clean together, as you would of the gazelle and of
the stag. 23 But its blood you shall not eat. On
the earth shall you pour it out like water.
16: 1 You are to observe the month of Aviv
and prepare a passover to Yahweh your Elohim, for in the month of Aviv Yahweh
your Elohim brought you forth from Egypt by night. 2 So you will sacrifice the passover to
Yahweh your Elohim from the flock and the herd in the place where Yahweh your
Elohim shall choose to tabernacle His name. 3 You shall not eat anything leavened
with it. Seven days shall you eat unleavened cakes with it, the bread of
humiliation חפּזון for in nervous haste
and trepidation חפּזון you went forth from
the country of Egypt, that you may remember the day of your going forth from
the country of Egypt all the days of your life.
Isa
52:12 For you shall not come out in haste, חפּזון nor go in flight מנוּסה. For יהוה is going before you, and the Elohim of
Yisra’ěl is your rear guard. Jer 23:7-8 (future prophecy)
4 Let no yeast be seen with you in all
your territory seven days. And let none of the flesh that you shall sacrifice
in the evening on the first day lodge until morning. 5 You cannot sacrifice the passover
within any one of your gates which Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you, 6 but rather only in the place that
Yahweh your Elohim shall choose to tabernacle His name. There shall you
sacrifice the passover in the evening as the sun sets, the appointed time of
your going forth from Egypt. 7 Then you will cook and eat in the place
that Yahweh your Elohim shall choose, and you may turn around in the morning
and go to your tents. 8 Six days shall you eat unleavened
cakes, and on the seventh day, a day of restraint עצרת
(solemn assembly) to Yahweh your Elohim, you
shall do no occupational work at all. 9 You shall count off seven weeks for
yourself. From the start of the scythe in the raised grain shall you start to
count off seven weeks. 10 Then you will observe the celebration
of weeks to Yahweh your Elohim with a tribute of a voluntary offering from your
hand which you shall give, just as Yahweh your Elohim may have blessed
you. 11 You will rejoice before Yahweh your
Elohim, you, your son and your daughter, your servant and your maidservant, the
Levite who is within your gates, the sojourner, the orphan and the widow who
are among you, in the place where Yahweh your Elohim shall choose to tabernacle
His name. 12 Remember that you had become a
servant in the country of Egypt; hence observe and obey these statutes. 13 As for the celebration of booths, you
shall observe it for yourself seven days when you gather in the yield from your
threshing site and from your wine vat. 14 You will rejoice in your celebration,
you, your son and your daughter, your servant and your maidservant, the Levite,
the sojourner, the orphan and the widow who are within your gates. 15 Seven days shall you celebrate to
Yahweh your Elohim in the place that Yahweh your Elohim shall choose, for
Yahweh your Elohim shall bless you in all your yield and in every work of your
hands, so that you will indeed be rejoicing. 16 Three times in the year all your
males shall appear before Yahweh your Elohim in the place that He shall
choose:at the celebration of unleavened cakes, at the celebration of weeks and
at the celebration of booths. And none shall appear before Yahweh
empty-handed, 17 but each according to the gift of his
hand, according to the blessing which Yahweh your Elohim will give to you.
Summary and Midrash on the ‘’Moedim’’:
One of the keys in understanding these appointments has to
do with the first and second coming of Messiah. The Torah has a very
interesting way of ‘’highlighting these two events in the ‘’appointments’’ Lev
23 – with the special addition of the ‘’shabbaton’’ instructions with the ‘’appointments’’.
(10 verses)
Basically ‘’shabbat’’ means to rest from your labour.
‘’Shabbaton’’ basically a very special rest from your labour.
The following scriptures are the only scriptures that
contain the word ‘’shabbaton’’ why?
Ex 16:23; Ex 31:15; Ex 35:2; Lev 16:31; Lev 23:3; Lev 23:24;
Lev 23:32; Lev 23:39 (x2); Lev25:4; Lev 25:5
Heb 4:1 Therefore, since a promise remains of
entering into His rest, (special sabbath) let us fear lest any of you seem to
have come short of it.
Heb 4:2 For indeed the Good News was brought to us
as well as to them, but the word which they heard did not profit them, not
having been mixed with belief in those who heard it.
Heb 4:3 For we who have believed do enter into that
rest, as He has said, “As I swore in My wrath, if they shall enter into My
rest...” Psa_95:11 And yet His works have come into being from the
foundation of the world.
Heb 4:4 For somewhere He has said thus about the
seventh day, “And Elohim rested on the seventh day from all His works,” Gen_2:2.
Heb 4:5 and in this again, “If they shall enter
into My rest...” Psa_95:11.
Heb 4:6 Since then it remains for some to enter
into it, and those who formerly received the Good News did not enter in because
of disobedience,
Heb 4:7 He again defines a certain day, “Today,”
saying through Dawiḏ so
much later, as it has been said, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not
harden your hearts.” Psa_95:7-8.
Heb 4:8 For if Yehoshua had given them rest, He
would not have spoken of another day after that.
Heb 4:9 So there remains a Sabbath-keepinga
for the people of Elohim. Footnote: aThe Greek word is sabattismos, which means
Sabbath-keeping.
Heb 4:10 For the one, having entered into His rest,
has himself also rested from his works, as Elohim rested from His
own.
Heb 4:11 Let us therefore do our utmost to enter
into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. (future,
not present rest)
Vs 9 is the only place where the Greek word
‘’sabbatismos’’ 4520 is found – defined as a kind of heaven.
Not everyone will enter this 7th day of rest –
in fact it may only be a very tiny remnant. Why? To receive this kindness we
need to show this kindness – from our hearts.
If we examine the verses in the Torah where it speaks
about the ‘’shabbaton” I believe we can gain some valuable and amazing insight.
The ‘’shabbatons’’ of the Torah have to do with
‘’exclusive invitations into the millennium’’ given by YHVH to those whom He
deems worthy to receive them.
The ‘’shabbatons’’ are about having an attitude of
gratitude – and an attitude that we are entitled to nothing and ever good thing
we receive is by His choice and His kindness – the central theme of this Torah
portion.
For example the weekly sabbath – this is described as a
‘’shabbaton’’ because it is a prophetic reminder of the millennial reign of
Messiah. Only those invited or chosen by YHVH will enter into this final 1000
year reign of Messiah. The same can be said about the other ‘’shabbatons’’
Joh
15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you
should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever
you ask the Father in My Name He might give you.
Mat
22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”a Footnote: aSee Mat_20:16.
We
don’t need to understand everything that YHVH has said, but we need to obey
everything He has said.
"This is the chukka (law) of the
Torah" – the Satan and the nations ridicule the Jewish people, saying,
"What is the meaning of this mitzva? What sense does it
make?"
Therefore, the Torah defines it as a chukka: "It
is an absolute decree from Me, and you have no right to challenge it."
(Rashi, 19:2)
When any individual changes or refuses to obey from the
heart YHVH’s sabbaths and appointed times – they are in danger of excluding
themselves from the millennial rule of Messiah.
Joh
3:36 “He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who
does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Elohim remains on
him.”
Blessed are you
YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth
and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver
of the Torah – Amein.
