Parashat 50 Portion 145 –
Ki Tavo - Dev 26:1-29:9 Yesh/Is 60:1-22 Col 3:1-17
The events described in this Torah portion are connected to the feast of
Sukkot. This will be the first appointment we have with YHVH in the millennial
kingdom. The instruction around this event as given to us in this Torah portion
clearly establishes the kind of foundation that will be established as we enter
into the millennial kingdom of our Messiah.
Once again the tone for the Torah portion is set by
the title and opening words. The sages remind us that the title “Ki Tavo” is
presented in its future tense form. The use of this kind of language suggests
to us some future time when the land of Yisrael will be divided according to
the inheritance of the different tribes of Yisrael. This event will take place
at the commencement of the Messianic age.

This is parashat 50. The number 50 reminds us of the Jubilee year. The
year where all that we have lost – including the land of Yisrael - is returned to us. Maybe this parashah reveals one of the most profound secrets of how the
kingdom of YHVH will return to its rightful owners.
Mar 4:11 And He said to them, “To you it has been
given to know the secret of the reign of Elohim, but to those who are outside,
all are done in parables,
Mar 4:12 so that ‘seeing they see but do not perceive,
and hearing they hear but do not understand, lest they should turn and their
sins be forgiven them.’ ”1 Footnote: 1Mt.13:15.
Isa 60:1 “Arise,
shine, for your light has come! And the esteem of יהוה has risen upon you.

earth, and thick darkness the peoples. But יהוה arises over you, and His esteem is seen
upon you.

your light1, and sovereigns to the brightness of your rising.

you were raised with Messiah, seek the matters which are above, where
Messiah is, seated at the right hand of Elohim.

Mind the matters above, not those on the earth.

For you have died, and your life has been hidden with Messiah in Elohim.
Col 3:4
When the Messiah, who is our life, is manifested, then you also shall be
manifested with Him in esteem.
Col 3:5
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: whoring,
uncleanness, passion, evil desire and greed of gain, which is idolatry.
Col 3:6
Because of these the wrath of Elohim is coming upon the sons of disobedience,1

General Overview:
The Israelites are commanded to bring the first of their fruit to the Temple,
and to deliver all tithes to their proper recipients. Moshe explains how the
blessings and curses are to be proclaimed on Mts. Gerizzim and Ebal when the
Hebrew nation enters into Israel. He then details the blessings they will
receive for following the commandments of the Torah, and the calamities which
will result from disregarding them.
These events possibly point to future prophetic end
time events: Many non Jewish people who desire to return to Israel will be able
to return. The growing number of restless believers in Yahshua around the world
wanting to return to Israel is proof of this. However this Torah portion clearly lays down the conditions required
to enter into the land and to STAY in the land. It appears that many may be
called to return to the land but few may experience the blessing of staying in
the land. (Matt 22:14)

This section introduces us
to the mitzvah
of bikurim,(firstfruit)
the requirement to bring one's first
fruits to the Set Apart Temple. This mitzvah(commandment) applies to fruits and
produce grown in the land of Israel, and only those for which the land of
Israel is praised: wheat, barley, dates, figs, grapes, pomegranates and olives.
When in the Temple, the owner of the fruits recites a prayer acknowledging his
humble past as well as the struggle he had to go through to enter into the
land. The prayer includes a declaration that no part of the tithe has been
withheld and the priest presents the prayer and the offering before YHVH.
During Temple times,
Hebrew farmers were required to separate from their produce several different
tithes (three tithes). These were distributed to the priests (Levites), the poor, and one tithe which were eaten by its
owners in Jerusalem.

shall be, when you come – (Ki Tavo)
into the land which יהוה your Elohim is
giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it,

26:2 that you shall take some of the
first of all the fruits of the soil which you bring from your land that יהוה your Elohim is giving you, and shall put
it in a basket and go to the place where יהוה your Elohim chooses to make His Name dwell
there.

26:3 “And you shall come to the one who
is priest in those days, and say to him, ‘I shall declare today to יהוה your Elohim that I have come to the land
which יהוה swore to our fathers to give us.’

26:4 “And the priest shall take the
basket from your hand and place it before the altar of יהוה your Elohim.

26:5 “And you shall answer and say
before יהוה your Elohim, ‘My father was a perishing
Aramean, and he went down to Mitsrayim and sojourned there with few men. And
there he became a nation, great, mighty, and numerous.

26:6 ‘But the Mitsrites did evil to us,
and afflicted us, and imposed hard labour on us.

26:7 ‘Then we cried out to יהוה Elohim of our fathers, and יהוה heard our voice and saw our affliction and
our toil and our oppression.

26:8 ‘And יהוה brought us out of Mitsrayim with a strong
hand and with an outstretched arm, with great fear and with signs and wonders.

26:9 ‘And He brought us to this place
and has given us this land, “a land flowing with milk and honey.”

26:10 ‘And now, see, I have brought the
first-fruits of the land which You, O יהוה, have given me.’ Then you shall place it
before יהוה your Elohim, and bow down before יהוה your Elohim,

26:11 and shall rejoice in all the good
which יהוה your Elohim has given to you and your
house, you and the Lĕwite and the stranger who is among you.

26:12 “When you have completed tithing
all the tithe of your increase in the third year, which is the year of tithing,
and have given it to the Lĕwite, to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the
widow, and they have eaten within your gates and have been satisfied,

26:13 then you shall say before יהוה your Elohim, ‘I have put away the
set-apart portion from my house, and also have given it to the Lĕwite,
and to the stranger, and to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all
Your command which You have commanded me. I have not transgressed Your commands,
nor have I forgotten.

26:14 ‘I have not eaten any of it when
in mourning, nor have I removed any of it for any unclean use, nor given any of
it for the dead. I have obeyed the voice of יהוה my Elohim, I have done according to all
that You have commanded me.

26:15 ‘Look from Your set-apart dwelling
place, from the heavens, and bless Your people Yisra’ĕl and the land which You
have given us, as You swore to our fathers, “a land flowing with milk and
honey.” ’

26:16 “Today יהוה your Elohim is commanding you to do these
laws and right-rulings. And you shall guard and do them with all your heart and
with all your being.

26:17 “You have today caused יהוה to proclaim to be your Elohim, and to walk
in His ways and guard His laws, and His commands, and His right-rulings, and to
obey His voice.

26:18 “And יהוה has caused you to proclaim today to be His
people, a treasured possession, as He has spoken to you, and to guard all His
commands,

26:19 so as to set you high above all
nations which He has made, for a praise, and for a name, and for esteem, and
for you to be a set-apart people to יהוה your Elohim, as He has spoken.”
The sages
believe that this parashah established the foundation for those returning to
the land. The very first requirement to be undertaken by those who desired to
enter the land is that they had to declare that they had not withheld any of
the tithe from YHVH. It appears from the Torah that there were three tithes.
First the Levites tithe; the second tithe to be used for Sukkot and finally a
tithe for the poor, the widow and orphan.
When you
rob YHVH of tithes – you curse Him. When you curse Him the whole foundation of
your life becomes flawed.
Mal 3:8 “Would a man rob Elohim? Yet you are robbing
Me! But you said, ‘In what have we robbed You?’ In the tithe and the offering!
Mal 3:9 “You have cursed Me with a curse, for you are
robbing Me, this nation, all of it!
Mal 3:10 “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
and let there be food in My house. And please prove Me in this,” said יהוה of hosts,
“whether I do not open for you the windows of the heavens, and shall pour out
for you boundless blessing!
They also
had to declare that they were not an ethnically superior people. It would be
YHVH that would give then an exalted status, not because of them but because of
His love for them.
We must
add here that those who leave “Egypt/Mitzraim”(20%) will not leave empty
handed.

Midrash
on vs 15 - Rom 1:22
Claiming to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 and changed the esteem of the incorruptible
Elohim into the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds and of
four-footed beasts and of reptiles.
Rom 1:24 Therefore Elohim gave them up to uncleanness
in the lust of their hearts, to disrespect their bodies among themselves, (gay
and lesbian movement)
Rom 1:25 who changed the truth of Elohim into the
falsehood, and worshipped and served what was created rather than the Creator,
who is blessed forever. Amĕn.
In
the physical realm we see how people even believers have placed an inordinate
affection of Yahveh’s creation.
In
the spiritual realm we see how religious men have created ideas and doctrines
that misrepresent the image of YHVH.
The
evidence of this idolatry is the hostile response one receives when expressing
concern or when challenging such inordinate affections or misrepresentations of
what is right and acceptable to YHVH according to Torah.

29:5 “And I have led you forty years in
the wilderness. Your garments have not worn out on you, and your sandals have
not worn out on your feet.

nor strong drink, so that you might know that I am יהוה your Elohim.

29:7 “And when you came to this place,
Siḥon sovereign of Ḥeshbon and Oḡ
sovereign of Bashan came out against us to battle, and we smote them,

29:8 and took their land and gave it as
an inheritance to the Re’uḇĕnites,
and to the Gaḏites, and to half the tribe of
Menashsheh.

29:9 “Therefore you shall guard the
words of this covenant, and do them, so that you prosper in all that you do.
May
YHVH find us worthy to be an end time people who will return to the land via
the Yarden where the 12 hidden stones in the river will be revealed and once
again be used as an altar to our Elohim – Josh 4:9.
