English translation: Blessed art Thou, Yahveh our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please Yahveh, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Yisrael. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Yisrael, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, Yahveh, Who teaches Torah to His people Ysrael. Blessed are You, Yahveh our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, Yahveh, Giver of the Torah.

Jer 7:21  Thus said יהוה of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra’ěl, “Add your ascending offerings to your slaughterings and eat meat.

Jer 7:22  “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim, about matters of ascending offerings or slaughterings.

Jer 7:23  “But this word I did command them, saying, ‘Obey My voice,a and I shall be your Elohim, and you be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it be well with you.’ Footnote: aSee also Gen_26:5, Exo_19:5, Joh_3:36, Rom_6:16, Heb_4:11, Heb_5:9 and Rev_22:14

Jer 7:25  “From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Mitsrayim until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them.

Jer 7:26  “But they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did evil, more than their fathers.

Jer 7:27  “And you shall speak all these words to them, though they do not listen to you. And you shall also call to them, though they do not answer you.

Jer 7:28  “But you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that did not obey the voice of יהוה their Elohim, nor did they accept instruction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth. (a remnant will hear and obey)

Act 17:30  “Truly, then, having overlooked these times of ignorance, Elohim now commands all men everywhere to repent,

Act 17:31  because He has set a day on which He is going to judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed,[b] having given proof of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Footnote: bSee Act_10:42

This Torah portion addresses the sin of dealing deceitfully against your neighbour. There are generally no witnesses so this matter can only be resolved if the guilty party is willing to own up confess his sin and make restitution.

YHVH required that among those who are called by His Name such a guilty person to confess his sin and bring a “guilt offering”(asham) to the altar where the priest would make atonement for him.

We all have thought at times that we can get away with our actions only to find a consistent convicting of the Ruach of YHVH to make a wrong matter right. This is a gift and should not be abused. If one continually ignores the prompting of the Ruach regarding specific issues brought to our attention, a time may come when the Ruach of YHVH will withdraw and leave us to our own devices.

In fact one of the Hebraic understandings of the curse of YHVH is that He withdraws from you and leaves you to your own devices. This is possibly one of the most dangerous situations a person could find themselves in.

When we lie or steal or bear false testimony against a fellow Yisraelite it is not always good enough to YHVH that we go in private and rectify the matter. Such a sin or related transgression must at times be openly admitted to others, the required restitution and offering made before YHVH will grant atonement for such a sin.

Some sages believe that if you confess and rectify a transgression as soon as it happens there is no need for public confession and humiliation. However, a person initially seeks to ignore a wrong-doing and then comes under a continual conviction of the Ruach of YHVH to remind them, public confession and restitution is required.

Sadly many have been taught that all you need to do is apologise and then carry on as if everything is normal.

A wise rabbi was one day approached by someone who had committed “la shon ha ra”(evil speaking) against him. This person felt very bad and asked the rabbi what they could do to rectify the matter. The rabbis asked the offender to take a feather pillow on a very windy day to an open field and release all the feathers into the wind. Then the offender was required to go and pick up every feather.

Pro 26:18  Like a madman who throws sparks, arrows, and death,

Pro 26:19  So is a man who deceived his neighbour, And says, “I was only joking!”

Lev 6:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 6:2  “When any being sins, and committed a trespass against יהוה, and has lied to his neighbour about a deposit, or about a pledge, or about a robbery, or shall extort from his neighbour,

Lev 6:3  or has found what was lost and has lied concerning it, or did swear falsely, so that he sins in regard to any one of all these that a man does,

Lev 6:4  then it shall be, when he sins, and shall be guilty, that he shall return what he took by robbery, or what he has extorted, or the deposit which was deposited with him, or the lost item which he found,

Lev 6:5  or all that about which he swore falsely. He shall repay its total value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whom it belongs, on the day of his guilt offering.

Lev 6:6  “Then he brings his guilt offering to יהוה, a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation, as a guilt offering, to the priest.

Lev 6:7  “And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה, and he shall be forgiven for whatever he did that made him guilty.”

We recognize two major transgressions in the above instructions: Greed and deceit. When these are present in our lives and are not repented of, they can cause great destruction in the lives of people.

Luk 19:8  But Zakkai stood up and said to the Master, “Look, Master, I give half of my possessions to the poor. And if I have taken whatever from anyone by false accusation, I repay fourfold.”

Luk 19:9  And יהושע said to him, “Today deliverance has come to this house – since he also is a son of Aḇraham.

Mic 2:1  Woe to those plotting wickedness, and working out evil upon their beds! In the light of the morning they practise it, because it is in the might of their hand.

Mic 2:2  And they coveted fields and seized them, also houses, and took them away. And they oppressed a man and his house, a man and his inheritance.

Mic 2:3  Therefore thus said יהוה, “See, against this clan I am planning evil, from which you do not remove your necks, nor walk proudly, for this is a time of evil.

Mic 2:4  “In that day one shall lift up a proverb against you, and he shall lament with a bitter lamentation, and shall say, ‘We have been utterly ravaged! He changes the inheritance of my people. How He removes it from me! He apportions our fields to the backslider.’ ”

Jer 5:30  “An astounding and horrible matter has come to be in the land:

Jer 5:31  The prophets have prophesied falsely1, and the priests rule by their own hand, and My people have loved it so.2 And what are you going to do at the end of it? Footnotes: 1See 27:14,15. 2Isa. 30:10, 2 Tim. 4:3.

When believers suppress truth for the sake of popularity they rob and defraud others of their rightful inheritance and reward from YHVH.

According to the instructions of this Torah portion there should be public confession and restitution made for deceitfully defrauding a fellow believer.

Lev 6:8  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 6:9  “Command Aharon and his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the burnt offering: This is the burnt offering, because it is burned on the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar is kept burning on it.

Lev 6:10  ‘And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and put his linen trousers on his body, and shall take up the ashes of the burnt offering which the fire has consumed on the altar, and shall put them beside the altar.

Lev 6:11  ‘And he shall take off his garments, and put on other garments, and shall bring the ashes outside the camp to a clean place.

Lev 6:12  ‘And the fire on the altar is kept burning on it, it is not put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and arrange the burnt offering on it, and shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings –

Maybe this is the way that we secure an ongoing pleasing relationship with YHVH and our fellow man – We know and are ready to bring burnt offerings any time of the day or night every day of the year.

1Pe 2:21  For to this you were called, because Messiah also suffered for us,h leaving ush an example, that you should follow His steps,i Footnotes: hNA reads “you”. i 1Co_11:1, 1Jn_2:6

1Pe 2:23  who, being reviled, did not revile in return; suffering, did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

1Pe 2:24  who Himself bore our sins Isa_53:4 in His body on the timber, so that we, having died to sins, might live unto righteousnessk – by whose stripes you were healed. Isa_53:5 Footnote: k Rom_6:2, 1Pe_4:1-2

1Pe 2:25  For you were like sheep going astray, Isa_53:6 but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your beings.

1Co 13:9  For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part (Gk – instalment) shall be inactive. (Lit – whenever maturity or perfection may be coming, that which is out of an instalment shall be discarded)

1Co 13:11  When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I reasoned as a child. But when I became a man, I did away with childish matters.

1Co 13:12  For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know, as I also have been known.

Act 17:30  “Truly, then, having overlooked these times of ignorance, Elohim now commands all men everywhere to repent,

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you Yahveh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, Yahweh giver of the Torah – Amein

Parasahat 24 Portion 78 Vayikra 5:1-6:7 Zech 5:3-6:15 James 5:16-20 Matt 18:15-17

Bar’chu et YHVH ha-m’vorach, Baruch YHVH ha-m’vorach l’O’lam va-ed! Baruch ata YHVH Eloheinu melech ha-olam asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’na-tan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.)

These sin offerings can only be truly understood within the context of a messianic redemptive commu
nity. One person’s sin not only impacts individuals but also communities. Because the Torah has been misrepresented and undermined for so long as well as being disconnected from the redemptive work of Messiah – there is an insensitivity of sin and its impact.

The Spirit guided Torah shows us the exceeding sinfulness of sin – Rom 7:13.

The Spirit of real Messiah shows us how his complete redemptive work has delivered us from Torahlessness (not from the Torah) - Tit 2:14  who gave Himself for us, to redeem us from all lawlessness [b] and to cleanse for Himself a people, His own possession, ardent for good works.[c] Footnotes: bSee also 1Jn_3:4, Mat_1:21, Act_3:19 and Act_3:26, Act_26:18, Rom_6:1-22, Eph_2:1-10, 1Jn_3:8, Tit_3:5. c Mat_16:27

The real evidence of walking the Spirit - filled life is that we desire to walk in the righteousness of ALL the Torah - Rom 8:4  so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Zec 5:3  And he said to me, “This is the curse that goes forth over the face of all the earth: ‘everyone who is stealing shall go unpunished,’ on the one side, according to it, and, ‘everyone who has sworn falsely shall go unpunished,’ on the other side, according to it.”

Zec 5:4  “I shall send it out,” declares יהוה of hosts, “and it shall come into the house of the thief and the house of the one who shall swear falsely by My Name. And it shall remain in the midst of his house and shall consume it, both its timber and stones.”

Lev 5:1  ‘And when a being sins in that he has heard the voice of swearing,(‘’alah’’) and is a witness, or has seen, or has known, but does not reveal it, he shall bear his crookedness.

Hebrew word for swearing is H423 'âlâh BDB Definition: 1) oath 2) oath of covenant 3) curse 3a) from God 3b) from men 4) execration (condemn or hate)

Here are some scriptural examples of where YHVH makes oaths or proclaims curses –

The patriarchal blessing -

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth(kalal – treats with contempt or dishonour) thee will I curse;(‘’arar’’ -  and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'

Gen 22:15-18 YHVH makes an oath(‘’shava’’ take an oath, or curse – but it will happen) to Avraham that because of his willingness to offer up his only son, that through Avraham’s seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed. This is in fact the essence of the Good News.

Another example of where YHVH makes an oath:

Heb 3:10  “Therefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.’

Heb 3:11  “As I swore (shava or ‘’nishbati’’ same Heb word used in Ps 95:11) in My wrath, ‘If they shall enter into My rest...’ ”1 Footnote: 1Ps. 95:7-11.

1Co 10:11  And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,

1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.

Literary in Lev 5:1 the Hebrew says if you are a witness to someone declaring an oath or a curse and someone testifies falsely or he remains silent ( Heb im lo yagid)– knowing the truth -  his iniquity will be upon him.

Perhaps we should consider the example of the ‘’modern -day gospel’’. People are told that if they accept and pray to the Jesus who did away with the Torah and the Sabbath and introduce pagan customs and worship into the Christian religion he established – if they do not declare that he and that he alone is God (Elohim – the Mighty One) – they will be cursed to hell and judgment and outer darkness. Then to add insult to injury they say anyone who follows Torah is under the curse of YHVH and is fallen from grace.

If we or anyone remains silent to these oaths of YHVH, they will bear their iniquity.

Let us look to Yahshua who gives the Torah (YHVH’s covenant) its deepest possible meaning. It was Yahshua that embodies both the fullness of YHVH’s Covenant and Curse. He took upon himself the curse of our disobedience to the Torah.

The Hebrew word for crookedness is “avon” it can also mean “iniquity” which implies ongoing continual disobedience to YHVH’s Torah – Torahlessness.

Once again we need to come to YHVH with an offering to deal with this guilt (asham) in our lives for having made a mistake (shagag) Where have we kept silence on an issue when we should have spoken out concerning an  issue.

There are times when we are to remain silent and wait for YHVH to give you an opportunity to speak – we must allow the Ruach of YHVH to guide us in these matters.

Mat 7:6  “Do not give what is set-apart to the dogs, nor throw your pearls before the pigs, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Isa 59:14  And right-ruling1 is driven back, and righteousness1 stands far off. For truth has fallen in the street, and right is unable to enter. Footnote: 1Amos 5:13

Isa 59:15  And the truth is lacking, and whoever turns away from evil makes himself a prey. And יהוה saw, and it displeased Him that there was no right-ruling.

Isa 59:16  And He saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no intercessor. So His own arm saved for Him, and His righteousness upheld him.

Ecc 3:1  For every matter there is an appointed time, even a time for every pursuit under the heavens:

Ecc 3:7  a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak;

Amo 5:13 Therefore the wise keep silent at that time, for it is an evil time.

If we do not “reveal it” (im lo yagid) he will bear the iniquity or consequence of this sin.

What is one of the consequences of this sin?

Eze 3:18  “When I say to the wrong1, ‘You shall certainly die,’ and you have not warned him, nor spoken to warn the wrong from his wrong way, to save his life, that same wrong man shall die in his crookedness, and his blood I require at your hand. Footnote: 1This passage is almost the same as in 18:20-32 and 33:8-20.

Eze 3:19  “But if you have warned the wrong and he does not turn from his wrong, nor from his wrong way, he shall die in his crookedness, and you have delivered your being.

Act 20:26  “Therefore I witness to you this day that I am clear from the blood of all.

Act 20:27  “For I kept not back from declaring to you all the counsel of Elohim.

Act 20:28  “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Set-apart Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of Elohim which He has purchased with His own blood.

Act 20:29  “For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves1 shall come in among you, not sparing the flock. Footnote: 1See Mt. 7:15-23, Mt. 10:16, Lk. 10:3, John 10:12.

Act 20:30  “Also from among yourselves men shall arise, speaking distorted teachings, to draw away the taught ones after themselves.

Lev 5:2  ‘Or when a being touches any unclean matter, or the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean livestock, or the carcass of unclean creeping creatures, and it has been hidden from him, he is unclean and guilty.

Lev 5:3  ‘Or when he touches uncleanness of man, any of his uncleanness by which he is unclean, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty.

“Contamination of set apart people”

Mat 23:27  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are like whitewashed tombs which outwardly indeed look well, but inside are filled with dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.

Mat 23:28  “So you too outwardly indeed appear righteous to men, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.1 Footnote:1See 5:20.

Not only unclean and forbidden food can contaminate us, also the uncleanness of men – their teaching and doctrine.

Jud 1:11  Woe to them! Because they have gone in the way of Qayin, and gave themselves to the delusion of Bilʽam for a reward, and perished in the rebellion of Qoraḥ.

Jud 1:12  These are rocky reefs in your love feasts, feasting with you, feeding themselves without fear, waterless clouds borne about by the winds, late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots, (we are defiled when we come into the presence of dead things)

Jud 1:13  wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shame, straying stars for whom blackness of darkness is kept forever.

2Jn 1:6  And this is the love, that we walk according to His commands.1 This is the command, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. Footnote: 1See 1 John 5:3, and John 14:15.

1Jn 2:3  And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His commands.[a] Footnote: aSee 1Jn_3:6

1Jn 2:4  The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1Jn 2:5  But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected[b] in him. By this we know that we are in Him.[c] Footnotes b Gen_17:1, Psa_119:1, Mat_5:48. cSee 1Jn_3:24

1Jn 2:6  The one who says he stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.

2Jn 1:9  Everyone who is transgressing and not staying in the teaching of Messiah does not possess Elohim.1 The one who stays in the teaching of Messiah possesses both the Father and the Son.2 Footnotes: 11 Tim. 6:3. 2See 1 John 1:3, 1 John 2:22, 1 John 5:20.

2Jn 1:10  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house nor greet him,

2Jn 1:11  for he who greets him shares in his wicked works.

Lev 5:4  ‘Or when a being swears, speaking rashly with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a man swears rashly with an oath, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty of one of these.

Lev 5:5  ‘And it shall be, when he is guilty of one of these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned,

Lev 5:6  and shall bring his guilt offering (asham)to יהוה for his sin which he has sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a female goat as a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin.

1Jn 1:5  And this is the message which we have heard from Him and announce to you, that Elohim is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

1Jn 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and are not doing the truth.

1Jn 1:7  But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of יהושע Messiah His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1Jn 1:8  If we say that we have no sin, we are misleading ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1Jn 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is trustworthy and righteous to forgive us the sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

Let us pause and consider for a moment all the marriage vows and promises that many have been broken in our generation.

The sad reality is that there will always be consequences to our actions.

Lev 5:7  ‘And if he is unable to bring a lamb, then he shall bring to יהוה, he who has sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

Lev 5:8  ‘And he shall bring them to the priest, who shall bring near that which is for the sin offering first, and wring off its head from its neck, but not sever it.

Lev 5:9  ‘And he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering.

Lev 5:10  ‘And he shall prepare the second as a burnt offering according to the right-ruling, and the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin which he has sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.

Lev 5:11  ‘But if he is unable to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then he who sinned shall bring for his offering one-tenth of an ĕphah of fine flour as a sin offering. He puts no oil on it, nor does he put any frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. Lev 5:12  ‘And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his hand filled with it as a remembrance portion, and burn it on the altar according to the offerings made by fire to יהוה. It is a sin offering. Lev 5:13  ‘And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin that he has sinned in any of these, and it shall be forgiven him. And it shall be the priest’s, like a grain offering.’ ” Lev 5:14  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Asham or guilt offering – this requires some form of compensation.

Lev 5:15  “When a being commits a trespass, and has sinned by mistake against the set-apart matters of יהוה, then he shall bring to יהוה as his guilt(asham) offering a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation in sheqels of silver according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, as a guilt offering. (Heb – ‘’asham’’)Lev 5:16  “And he shall make good for the sin that he has done against that which is set-apart, and shall add one-fifth to it and give it to the priest. And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it shall be forgiven him. Lev 5:17  “And when any being sins, and has done what is not to be done, against any of the commands of יהוה, though he knew it not, yet he shall be guilty and shall bear his crookedness. (ignorance no excuse) Lev 5:18  “Then he shall bring to the priest a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation, as a guilt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for his mistake he committed unintentionally, though he did not know it, and it shall be forgiven him – Lev 5:19  it is a guilt offering, he was truly guilty before יהוה.”

Lev 6:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, Lev 6:2  “When any being sins, and committed a trespass (Heb – ma al to act treacherously or unfaithfully) against יהוה, and has lied (kachash – to deceive) to his neighbour about a deposit,( pledge, security, deposit) or about a robbery, or shall extort(violate or defraud) from his neighbour, Lev 6:3  or has found what was lost and has lied concerning it, or did swear falsely, so that he sins in regard to any one of all these that a man does, Lev 6:4  then it shall be, when he sins, and shall be guilty, that he shall return what he took by robbery, or what he has extorted, or the deposit which was deposited with him, or the lost item which he found, Lev 6:5  or all that about which he swore falsely.

Mat 18:15  “And if your brother sins against you, go and convict him, between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. Mat 18:16  “But if he does not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word might be established.’[a] Deu_19:15. Mat 18:17  “And if he refuses to hear them, say it to the assembly. And if he refuses even to hear the assembly, let him be to you like the nations and a tax collector. Mat 18:18  “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be having been bound in heaven, and whatever you loosen on earth shall be having been loosened in heaven.[b] Footnote: bSee footnote Mat_16:19

Mat 18:19  “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning any matter that they ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in the heavens. Mat 18:20  “For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there I am in their midst.”
