Parashat 28 Portion 86 Vayikra 15:1-33 Hosea 6:1-9 Matt 23:25-26

The Ruach of YHVH has given us this week’s Torah instruction in the form of a chiastic structure.

  1.  Introduction  (vs 1,2)
    B. Abnormal male discharge (vs 2b-15)
C.       Normal male discharge   (vs 15,17)
X.  Marital relations     (vs18)
                              C. Normal female discharge (vs 19-24)
                     B. Abnormal female discharge  (vs 25-30)
        A.  Summary (vs 31-33)

We see the focus of the Torah portion is on marital purity. We can safely assume this can also refers to a “bride without spot or wrinkle” waiting and preparing for her soon coming Bridegroom.

Sadly the reality today is that believers who desire to be part of the Bride of Messiah have been profoundly defiled by false doctrines and disobedience to the Torah – the marriage covenant between YHVH and Yisrael.
1Pe 1:23  having been born again – not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible – through the living Word of Elohim, which remains forever,

The end of this parashah contains a serious warning - Lev 15:31  ‘Thus you shall separate the children of Yisra’ĕl from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness when they defile My Dwelling Place which is in their midst.

Death could have a number of implications….

Lev 15:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying,
Lev 15:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘When any man has a discharge from his flesh, his discharge is unclean.

Some have also questioned whether or not the word "flesh" (Leviticus 15:2) actually refers to the sex organ, but, of course, it does. As Keil puts it, "The fact that the same term `flesh' (Leviticus 15:19) certainly refers to a sexual discharge points unmistakably to a secretion from sexual organs."

Lev 15:3  ‘And this is his uncleanness in regard to his discharge; whether his flesh runs with his discharge, or his flesh is stopped up by his discharge,(lit – man’s emission of seed is caused to cease flowing) it is his uncleanness.

“Stopped” Heb – “chatam” – verb hiphyl – to cause to be stopped.

Lev 15:4  ‘Any bed becomes unclean on which he who has the discharge lies, and any object on which he sits becomes unclean.
Lev 15:5  ‘And anyone who touches his bed has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:6  ‘And he who sits on any object on which he who has the discharge sat, has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:7  ‘And he who touches the flesh of him who has the discharge has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and shall be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:8  ‘And when he who has the discharge spits on him who is clean, then he shall wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

1Co 15:33  Do not be led astray, “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

Lev 15:9  ‘Any saddle on which he who has the discharge rides becomes unclean.
Lev 15:10  ‘And whoever touches any of that which was under him is unclean until evening. And he who is carrying them up has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:11  ‘And anyone whom he who has the discharge touches without rinsing his hands in water, shall wash his garments and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:12  ‘And the earthen vessel which he who has the discharge touches has to be broken, and every wooden vessel has to be rinsed in water.
Lev 15:13  ‘And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, and shall wash his garments, and shall bathe his flesh in running water, and be clean.
Lev 15:14  ‘And on the eighth day he takes for himself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and shall come before יהוה, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and shall give them to the priest.

Anything or anyone that comes into close contact with one whose seed is defiled or one whose seed is  not producing life will be defiled. And only and offering that reflects the complete offering made by Messiah is able to cleanse us. This should cause us to be very careful with whom we allow to come close to us.

2Jn 1:10  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house nor greet him,
2Jn 1:11  for he who greets him shares in his wicked works.

Lev 15:15  ‘And the priest shall prepare them, the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה because of his discharge.

The following two verses speak of a normal emission of seed. Even this normal emission requires a cleansing in water. Why? Since the fall of man, man’s seed produces sin and death. This will change when Messiah presents us perfect to the Father one day.

Rom 7:18  For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good.

Rom 3:10  As it has been written, “There is none righteous, no, not one!
Rom 3:11  “There is no one who is understanding, there is none who is seeking Elohim.
Rom 3:12  “They all have turned aside, they have together become worthless. There is none who does good, no, not one.”

In this regard much Christian doctrine and understanding about sin and grace needs to be radically changed. Grace or favour is only effective to the extent that we have received revelation of our desperate need of it.

Revelation of the Torah of YHVH through the Ruach of YHVH is the only way we can come face to face with our true condition. Then only can we appropriate and appreciate the deep work of redemption accomplished for is in Messiah. Many pastors and teachers think that they can put people on a serious enough guilt trip to cause them to repeat a sinner’s prayer and this somehow is sufficient for our salvation. Many dear Christians have been deceived because the only way we can come to a true knowledge of our state and our need for redemption is through the obedient application of ALL of the Torah.

Gal 3:19  Why, then, the Torah? It was added because of transgressions, until the Seed should come to whom the promise was made. And it was ordained through messengers in the hand of a mediator.
Gal 3:20  The Mediator, however, is not of one, but Elohim is one.
Gal 3:21  Is the Torah then against(Gk missing the promises) the promises of Elohim? Let it not be! For if a law had been given that was able to make alive, truly righteousness would have been by Torah.

Gal 3:21  Is the Torah then against the promises of Elohim? Let it not be! For if a law had been given that was able to make alive, truly righteousness would have been by Torah.
Gal 3:22  But the Scripture has shut up all mankind under sin, that the promise by belief in יהושע Messiah might be given to those who believe.
Gal 3:23  But before belief came, we were being guarded under Torah, having been shut up for the belief being about to be revealed.
Gal 3:24  Therefore the Torah became our trainer unto Messiah, in order to be declared right by belief.
Gal 3:25  And after belief has come, we are no longer under a trainer.

See also Matt 5:17-19 – while heaven and earth are here all of the Torah will be here. Many Christians believe that they no longer need a “trainer” because the Torah has been done away with.

Rom 7:12  So that the Torah truly is set-apart, and the command set-apart, and righteous, and good.

Rom 7:14  For we know that the Torah is Spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.

Lev 15:16  ‘And when a man has an emission of semen, then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:17  ‘And any garment and any leather on which there is semen, shall also be washed with water, and be unclean until evening.
Lev 15:18  ‘And when a woman lies with a man, and there is an emission of semen, they both shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
