Parashat 26 ‘’Sh’mini’’ Portion 88 Vayikra 10:8-11:8 Ezek 44:21-29 +45:15

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

Parashat Shemini - Shemini- Eighth- THE HEART OF THE TORAH: In this portion we find the middle letter and two middle words of the entire Torah Scroll. The sages call this Torah Portion the heart of the Torah because they say the Torah was founded upon this Parashah Portion.

There are 304805 letters in the Torah, the middle letter of Torah is the “vav” (enlarged) of Gachon (belly) Lev 11:42 –

The middle word of the Torah is in Lev 10:16 – “Darosh darash” and means “in searching you must search.” (Which mean you must truly search and search the Torah for the truth) ‘’This teaches us that the entire Torah revolves around constant enquiry; one must never stop studying and seeking an ever deeper meaning and broader understanding of the Torah.’’

The middle verse is found in the previous parashah (5845 verses in the Torah) Lev 8:8 and put the breastplate on him, and put the Urim and the Tummim in the breastplate. (Light and perfections refer to Moshiach)

The sages teach that we can see from this middle letter, word, and verse that they have to do with the spirit soul and body. The heart or central instruction of the Torah has to do with the whole man - 1Th 5:23  And the Elohim of peace Himself set you completely apart, and your entire spirit, and being, and body - be preserved blameless at the coming of our Master יהושע Messiah! 1Th 5:24  He who calls you is trustworthy, who also shall do it. One cannot disconnect the Torah from ‘’life’’ or from the ‘’Second Writings/Apostolic Scriptures’’.

The number 26 (Parashat Sh’mini’’) we know is also extremely significant as it pertains to the gematria of the name of YHVH – (yud = 10, hey=5, vav-6, hey=5 total 26)

Lev 9:1  And on the eighth (shemeni) day it came to be that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons and the elders of Yisra’ĕl.

That day was as joyous to YHVH as the day on which (new) heaven and earth were created. (Talmud, Megillah 10b) -italics mine.

This eighth day was the first day (Rosh Chodesh) of the first month (Aviv/Nisan). On this day the tabernacle and priesthood were erected and established by YHVH to be His eternal pattern of provision for our return back into His presence – Ex 40:2 – the establishing of the Tabernacle and priesthood were not just random events but strategically timed to highlight YHVH’s redemptive plan throughout the ages.

The sages tell us that there were many significant new beginnings introduced in this parasha:

  1. First day of the week – (or eighth day) The book of Leviticus introduces this concept more than any other book in scripture – (nine references) Yahshua rose from the dead on the 8th day of the week -  sealed the promise of the Renewed Covenant for ever -  now it could never change - He established the surety of a new beginning for all humanity.
  2. Here we see the first day the princes of Israel bring special gifts. The tribe of Judah was the first in dedicating gifts to the altar.
  3.  On this eighth day Aaron’s sons become priests serving Israel performing priestly service
  4. Eighth day fire descended on the altar –that came from Elohim.
  5. Eighth day was the first “tamid” ie continual offering morning and afternoon.
  6. First offerings eaten or totally consumed –
  7. First evidence of the “shechina” or presence of YHVH entered into the tabernacle.
  8. First day the Aaronic blessing was spoken.
  9. First time new instruction given about altars. No other altars where priestly duties carried out were to be erected - no one could just go and erect an altar and bring an offering to YHVH.
  10. First time “Rosh Chodesh” – new moon ceremony conducted.

Lev 9:1  And on the eighth day it came to be that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons and the elders of Yisra’ĕl.

Lev 9:2  And he said to Aharon, “Take for yourself a young bull as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering, a perfect one, and bring them before יהוה.

Note the order of these offerings (chap 9) – first was the sin offering which emphasizes that without purification there can be no communication or fellowship with the Father. The burnt offering came next which allows for intimacy with YHVH. The grain offering follows in which we enjoy a covenantal meal with YHVH, we” break bread” together enjoying fellowship with one another. Finally, the peace offering is the blessing we enjoy of knowing that it is well between YHVH and us as well as our fellowman and ourselves.

If our relationship with Yahshua is not ‘packaged’ in the historical context of the Living Torah, then we will not know the Messiah as he is meant to be known. Rom 10:4

Lev 10:1  And Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu, the sons of Aharon, each took his fire holder and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and brought strange fire (esh zara) before יהוה, which He had not commanded them.

Lev 10:2  And fire came out from יהוה and consumed them, and they died before יהוה.

Nadab means “generous” one who freely gives without considering too much the consequences of his actions. Abihu means “He is my Father” perhaps there was a familiarity in his life which cost him his life. We need to note that these were not evil men, but they were misinformed and ignorant of the consequences of their actions (offering strange fire). This is why the letter, and the intention of the Torah is central and critical to our lives yesterday, today and in the future. Failure to embrace and obey YHVH’s Torah will have catastrophic repercussions for every single human being on the earth – past present and future - Isa 24:5  For the earth has been defiled under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the Torot, changed the law, broken the everlasting covenant. Isa 24:6  Therefore a curse shall consume the earth, and those who dwell in it be punished. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth shall be burned, and few men shall be left.

Why? I believe the answer is found in the following verse:

Lev 10:3  Then Mosheh said to Aharon, “This is what יהוה spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me let Me be set-apart! And before all the people let Me be esteemed!’” And Aharon was silent.

This is clear in the way religious people respond to YHVH with their doctrines, liturgies, and religious practices. We see this powerfully manifested in so called Christian praise and worship. If you discern carefully you hear an emphasis is on the praise and honour for ‘’Jesus’’ and not for YHVH - Joh 4:22  “You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because the deliverance is of the Yehuḏim.[b] Footnote: b Psa_147:19, Isa_2:3, Isa_14:1, Isa_56:6-8, Eze_47:22-23, Zec_2:10-11, Zec_8:23, Rom_2:20, Rom_3:2, Rom_9:4, Rev_21:12 and Rev_21:24. Joh 4:23  “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him.

Imagine reciting the ‘’Shemah’’ in the following manner – ‘’Hear Church of Jesus Christ, the Torah has been done away with by Jesus and now you shall love Jesus Christ and not YHVH with all your heart soul and strength and Jesus is the main focus of your worship’’.

‘’All heaven declares The glory of the risen Lord Who can compare with The beauty of the Lord Forever He will be The Lamb upon the throne I gladly bow the knee and worship Him alone’’ (blasphemy)

Isa 42:8  “I am יהוה, that is My Name, and My esteem I do not give to another, nor My praise to idols.

Isa 48:11  …… And My esteem I do not give to another.

Heb 1:3  who being the brightness (reflection) of the esteem and the exact representation of His substance, and sustaining all by the word of His power, having made a cleansing of our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand Psa_110:1 of the Greatness on high,

Heb 1:4  having become so much better than the messengers, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than them.

Joh 5:30  “Of Myself I am unable to do any matter. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own desire, but the desire of the Father who sent Me.

Aharon must have known deep in his spirit that some great violation of YHVH’S set apartness had taken place. His sons were not wicked they were unwise and maybe a little too presumptuous with the Set Apart matters of YHVH. It appears that YHVH can and does become extremely angry when He is knowingly or unknowingly misrepresented and when He no longer remains the chief focus of our praise and worship.

In youth, one learns to talk; in maturity, one learns to be silent. This is man's problem: that he learns to talk before he learns to be silent (Rabbi Nachman of Breslav).

Lev 10:9  “Do not drink wine or strong drink,(Heb ‘’fermented grape juice or strong drink) you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the Tent of Meeting, lest you die – a law forever throughout your generations,

Lev 10:10  so as to make a distinction between the set-apart and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean,

Lev 10:11  and to teach the children of Yisra’ĕl all the laws which יהוה has spoken to them by the hand of Mosheh.”

The priests should always possess clarity of mind to insure righteous rulings and judgments.

Lev 10:12  And Mosheh spoke to Aharon, and to Elʽazar and Ithamar, his sons who were left, “Take the grain offering that is left over from the offerings made by fire to יהוה, and eat it without leaven beside the altar, for it is most set-apart.

Lev 10:13  “And you shall eat it in a set-apart place, because it is yours by law and your sons’ by law, of the offerings made by fire to יהוה, for so I have been commanded.

Lev 10:14  “And the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution you eat in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you. For they are yours by law and your sons’ by law, which are given from the slaughterings of peace offerings of the children of Yisra’ĕl.

Lev 10:15  “The thigh of the contribution and the breast of the wave offering they bring with the offerings of fat made by fire, to bring as a wave offering before יהוה. And it shall be yours and your sons’ with you, by a law forever, as יהוה has commanded.”

Lev 10:16  And Mosheh diligently looked for (דָּרֹשׁ דָּרַשׁ) the goat of the sin offering and saw it was burned up. And he was wroth with Elʽazar and Ithamar, the sons of Aharon who were left, saying,

טז  וְאֵת שְׂעִיר הַחַטָּאת, דָּרֹשׁ דָּרַשׁ מֹשֶׁה

‘’Drash, drash’’ or in ‘’searching you must search’’ a call to diligently search all scripture - Joh 5:39  “You search (Heb ‘’drash’’) the Scriptures, because you think you possess everlasting life in them. And these are the ones that bear witness of Me.

When we diligently search the scriptures, they will all lead us to Messiah Yahshua – Rom 10:4 – we can assume that Aharon’s refusal to eat the sin offering was to remind us that ultimately there was only one person – the Messiah- who was able and worthy of being our sin offering.

Lev 10:17  “Why have you not eaten the sin offering in a set-apart place, since it is most set-apart, and Elohim has given it to you to bear the crookedness of the congregation, to make atonement for them before יהוה?

Lev 10:18  “See, its blood was not brought inside the set-apart place. You should have eaten it without fail in a set-apart place, as I have commanded.” (Aaron and his sons could not remove the crookedness of the nation only Yahshua’s blood which was presented in a set apart place not made by hands-)

Lev 10:19  And Aharon said to Mosheh, “See, today they have brought their sin offering and their burnt offering before יהוה, and matters like these have come to me! If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been right in the eyes of יהוה?”

Lev 10:20  And when Mosheh heard that, it was good in his eyes.

Moshe was deeply concerned over the consequences of any form of disobedience from the priests and feared additional calamity because of this departure of Aarons when they did not eat from the sin offering as they were supposed to. Aaron sensed that this departure would be a once off event that YHVH had prompted him to follow. Moshe was satisfied with his answer because he knew and understood that it seemed to have come by YHVH’S leading.

Now we come to the dietary laws – it is significant to note the recent world covid pandemic can be traced to the eating of unclean animals – and the worst may yet be on its way.

How does one bring together ‘’the heart of the Torah’’ with dietary laws?

In the Hebrew mind YHVH brings together the Spiritual realm with the physical realm – (‘’may Your will be done ….’’Mat 6:10) right belief will result in a righteous walking out of that belief.

YHVH has created a reality in the heavens that will be manifested on earth - in fact if the reality within us is not the revealed reality of that which is in the heavens, we will not be able to endure the coming trial which is coming upon all mankind to refine us and prepare us for the coming Messiah.

Lev 11:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying to them,

Lev 11:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘These are the living creatures which you do eat among all the beasts that are on the earth:

Lev 11:3  ‘Whatever has a split hoof completely divided, chewing the cud, among the beasts, that you do eat.

Lev 11:4  ‘Only, these you do not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have a split hoof: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you;

Lev 11:5  and the rabbit, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you;

Lev 11:6  and the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have a split hoof, it is unclean to you;

Lev 11:7  and the pig, though it has a split hoof, completely divided, yet does not chew the cud, it is unclean to you.

Lev 11:8  ‘Their flesh you do not eat, and their carcasses you do not touch. They are unclean to you.

קח את אהרן – '’kach’’ is the command to ‘’firmly embrace’’- We as His redeemed people are called upon to firmly embrace Aharon and everything about his life and ministry that will awaken in our own hearts our great redemption both in the physical as well as the eternal spiritual realm.

Lev 8:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 8:2  “Take Aharon and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,

Lev 8:3  and assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Meeting.”

Lev 8:4  And Mosheh did as יהוה commanded him, and the congregation was assembled at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

Lev 8:5  And Mosheh said to the congregation, “This is the word יהוה commanded to be done.”

Lev 8:6  So Mosheh brought Aharon and his sons and washed them with water,

Lev 8:7  and put the long shirt on him, and girded him with the girdle, and dressed him in the robe, and put the shoulder garment on him, and girded him with the embroidered band of the shoulder garment, and with it tied the shoulder garment on him,

Lev 8:8  and put the breastplate on him, and put the Urim and the Tummim in the breastplate,

Lev 8:9  and put the turban on his head. And on the turban, on its front, he put the golden plate, the set-apart sign of dedication, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

Lev 8:10  And Mosheh took the anointing oil and anointed the Dwelling Place and all that was in it, and set them apart.

Lev 8:11  And he sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the basin and its base, to set them apart.

Lev 8:12  And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aharon’s head and anointed him, to set him apart.

Lev 8:13  And Mosheh brought the sons of Aharon and put long shirts on them, and girded them with girdles, and put turbans on them, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

Lev 8:14  And he brought the bull for the sin offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering,

Lev 8:15  and it was slaughtered. And Mosheh took the blood, and put some on the horns of the altar all around with his finger, and cleansed the altar. And he poured the blood at the base of the altar, and set it apart, to make atonement for it.

Lev 8:16  And he took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys with their fat, and Mosheh burned them on the altar.

Lev 8:17  And the bull, and its skin, and its flesh, and its dung, he burned with fire outside the camp, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh. (Num 19 – Red Heifer)

Lev 8:18  And he brought the ram of the burnt offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram,

Lev 8:19  and it was slaughtered. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the altar all around,

Lev 8:20  and he cut the ram into pieces. And Mosheh burned the head, and the pieces, and the fat,

Lev 8:21  and he washed the entrails and the legs in water. And Mosheh burned the entire ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a sweet fragrance, and an offering made by fire to יהוה, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

Lev 8:22  And he brought the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram,

Lev 8:23  and it was slaughtered. And Mosheh took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aharon’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

Lev 8:24  And he brought near the sons of Aharon, and Mosheh put some of the blood on the tips of their right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the altar all around,

Lev 8:25  and took the fat and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, and the right thigh,

Lev 8:26  and from the basket of unleavened bread that was before יהוה he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of bread anointed with oil, and one thin cake, and put them on the fat and on the right thigh,

Lev 8:27  and placed all these in the hands of Aharon and in the hands of his sons, and waved them as a wave offering before יהוה.

Lev 8:28  Mosheh then took them from their hands and burned them on the altar, on the burnt offering. They were ordinations for a sweet fragrance. It was an offering by fire to יהוה.

Lev 8:29  And Mosheh took the breast and waved it, a wave offering before יהוה. It was Mosheh’s portion of the ram of ordination, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

Lev 8:30  And Mosheh took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the altar, and sprinkled it on Aharon, on his garments, and on his sons, and on the garments of his sons with him. And he set apart Aharon, his garments, and his sons, and the garments of his sons with him.

Lev 8:31  And Mosheh said to Aharon and his sons, “Cook the flesh at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of the ordinations, as I have commanded, saying, ‘Aharon and his sons are to eat it.’

Lev 8:32  “Then burn the rest of the flesh and the bread with fire.

Lev 8:33  “And do not go outside the door of the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the days of your ordination are completed – for he fills your hands for seven days.

Lev 8:34  יהוה has commanded to do, as he has done this day, to make atonement for you.

Lev 8:35  “And stay at the door of the Tent of Meeting day and night for seven days. And you shall guard the duty of יהוה, and not die, for so I have been commanded.”

Lev 8:36  And Aharon and his sons did all the words that יהוה had commanded by the hand of Mosheh.

Lev 9:1  And on the eighth day it came to be that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons and the elders of Yisra’ěl.

Lev 9:2  And he said to Aharon, “Take for yourself a young bull as a sin offering and a ram as an ascending offering, a perfect one, and bring them before יהוה

Lev 9:3  “And speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘Take a male goat as a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both a year old, perfect ones, as an ascending offering,

Lev 9:4  and a bull and a ram as peace offerings, to slaughter before יהוה, and a grain offering mixed with oil. For today יהוה shall appear to you.’ ”

Lev 9:5  And they took what Mosheh commanded before the Tent of Appointment, and all the congregation drew near and stood before יהוה

Lev 9:6  And Mosheh said, “This is the word which יהוה commanded you to do, so that the esteem of יהוה appears to you.”

Lev 9:7  And Mosheh said to Aharon, “Go to the slaughter-place, and prepare your sin offering and your ascending offering, and make atonement for yourself and for the people. And make the offering of the people, and make atonement for them, as יהוה has commanded.”

Lev 9:8  So Aharon came near to the slaughter-place and slew the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

Lev 9:9  And the sons of Aharon brought the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it on the horns of the slaughter-place, and poured the blood at the base of the slaughter-place.

Lev 9:10  And the fat, and the kidneys, and the appendage on the liver of the sin offering he burned on the slaughter-place, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.

Lev 9:11  And the flesh and the skin he burned with fire outside the camp.

Lev 9:12  And he slew the ascending offering, and the sons of Aharon presented to him the blood, which he sprinkled on the slaughter-place all around.

Lev 9:13  And they presented the ascending offering to him, with its pieces and head, and he burned them on the slaughter-place.

Lev 9:14  And he washed the entrails and the legs, and burned them with the ascending offering on the slaughter-place.

Lev 9:15  And he brought the people’s offering, and took the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it and made it a sin offering, like the first one.

Lev 9:16  And he brought the ascending offering and made it, according to the right-ruling.

Lev 9:17  He also brought the grain offering, and filled his hand with it, and burned it on the slaughter-place, besides the ascending offering of the morning.

Lev 9:18  And he slew the bull and the ram as a slaughtering of peace offerings, which were for the people. And Aharon’s sons presented to him the blood, which he sprinkled on the slaughter-place all around,

Lev 9:19  and the fat from the bull and the ram, the fat tail, and the covering, and the kidneys, and the appendage on the liver,

Lev 9:20  and they placed the fat on the breasts, and he burned the fat on the slaughter-place.

Lev 9:21  But the breasts and the right thigh Aharon waved as a wave offering before יהוה, as Mosheh had commanded.

Lev 9:22  Aharon then lifted up his hand toward the people and blessed them, and came down from making the sin offering, and the ascending offering, and the peace offerings.

Lev 9:23  And Mosheh and Aharon went into the Tent of Appointment, and came out and blessed the people. And the esteem of יהוה appeared to all the people,

Lev 9:24  and fire came out from before יהוה and consumed the ascending offering and the fat on the slaughter-place. And all the people saw and cried aloud and fell on their faces.

Lev 10:1  And Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu, the sons of Aharon, each took his fire holder and put fire in it, and put incense on it, and brought strange fire before יהוה, which He had not commanded them.

Lev 10:2  And fire came out from יהוה and consumed them, and they died before יהוה

Lev 10:3  Then Mosheh said to Aharon, “This is what יהוה spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me let Me be set-apart! And before all the people let Me be esteemed!’ ” And Aharon was silent.

Lev 10:4  And Mosheh called to Misha’ěl and to Eltsaphan, the sons of Uzzi’ěl the uncle of Aharon, and said to them, “Come near, take your brothers from before the set-apart place out of the camp.”

Lev 10:5  So they came near and took them by their long shirts out of the camp, as Mosheh had said.

Lev 10:6  And Mosheh said to Aharon, and to El‛azar and to Ithamar, his sons, “Do not unbind your heads nor tear your garments, lest you die, and wrath come upon all the people. But let your brothers, all the house of Yisra’ěl, bewail the burning which יהוה has kindled.

Lev 10:7  “And do not go out from the door of the Tent of Appointment, lest you die, for the anointing oil of יהוה is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Mosheh.

Fire from Heaven – dedication of altar – Shelomoh/Solomons temple-

2Ch 7:1  And when Shelomoh had ended praying, fire came down from the heavens and consumed the ascending offering and the slaughterings. And the esteem of יהוה filled the House.

2Ch 7:2  And the priests were unable to enter the House of יהוה, because the esteem of יהוה had filled the House of יהוה

2Ch 7:3  And all the children of Yisra’ěl saw how the fire came down, and the esteem of יהוה on the House, and they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and did obeisance and gave thanks to יהוה, saying, “For He is good, for His loving-commitment is everlasting.”

Eze 43:26  ‘For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar and cleanse it, and ordain it.

Eze 43:27  ‘And when these days are completed it shall be, on the eighth day and thereafter, that the priests make your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar, and I shall accept you,’ declares the Master יהוה.” (Dedication of altar in the millennium)

In the last days before Messiah’s return YHVH has appointed a set apart remnant in Messiah to bring His people back to the Torah and to begin to prepare His people for the full restoration of the Temple service in Yerushalayim in the Messianic age. (Very few people believe this)

Eph 4:4  one body and one Spirit, as you also were called in one expectation of your calling,

Eph 4:5  one Master, one belief, one immersion,

Eph 4:6  one Elohim and Father of all,1 who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Footnote: 1Mk. 12:32,34, 1 Cor. 8:6, 1 Tim. 2:5, Mk. 12:29-34.

Eph 4:7  But to each one of us favour was given according to the measure of the gift of Messiah.

Eph 4:8  That is why it says, “When He went up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.”

Eph 4:9  But what does “He went up” mean, except that He also first went down into the lower parts of the earth?

Eph 4:10  He who went down is also the One who went up far above all the heavens, to fill all.

Eph 4:11  And He Himself gave some as emissaries, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as shepherds and teachers

Eph 4:12  for the perfecting of the set-apart ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah,

Eph 4:13  until we all come to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the completeness of Messiah,

Eph 4:14  so that we should no longer be children, tossed and borne about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men, in cleverness, unto the craftiness of leading astray,1 Footnote: 15:6, also 2 Cor. 10:5, 2 Cor. 11:3-14, Gal. 1:6-9, 2 Tim. 3:1-8, 2 Tim. 4:2-4, 2 Peter 2:2-22, Jud. vv. 10-19.

Eph 4:15  but, maintaining the truth in love, we grow up in all respects into Him who is the head, Messiah,

Eph 4:16  from whom the entire body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the working by which each part does its share, causes growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Eph 4:17  So this I say, and witness in the Master, that you should no longer walk as the gentiles walk,1 in the futility of their mind, Footnote: 11 Cor. 12:2, and Jer. 10:2.

Eph 4:18  having been darkened in their understanding, having been estranged from the life of Elohim, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,

Gal 3:8  And the Scripture, having foreseen that Elohim would declare right the nations by belief, announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,”a Gen_12:3. Footnote: aGen_18:18

Midrash and commentary from the second writings:

Heb 7:11  Truly, then, if perfection were through the Lĕwitical priesthood – for under it the people were given the Torah – why was there still need for another priest to arise according to the order of Malkitseḏeq, and not be called according to the order of Aharon?

Heb 7:12  For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law1 also. Footnote: 1Heb. 7:12. See “Law” in Explanatory notes.

Heb 7:13  For He of whom this is said belongs to another tribe, from which no one had attended at the altar.1 Footnote: 1See “Altar” in Explanatory notes.

Heb 7:14  For it is perfectly clear that our Master arose from Yehuḏah, a tribe about which Mosheh never spoke of concerning priesthood,

Heb 7:15  and this is clearer still, if another priest arises in the likeness of Malkitseḏeq,

Heb 7:16  who has become, not according to the Torah of fleshly command, but according to the power of an endless life,

Heb 7:17  for He does witness, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.”

Heb 7:18  For there is indeed a setting aside of the former command because of its weakness and unprofitableness, (Gk - anōphelēs)

Tit 3:9  But keep away from foolish questions, and genealogies, and strife and quarrels about the Torah, for they are unprofitable (anōphelēs) and useless.

Tit 3:10  Reject a divisive man after the first and second warning,

Note it is not the Torah that is unprofitable it is the misrepresentation of the Torah that is unprofitable.

Heb 7:19  for the Torah perfected naught,(because of disobedience) but the bringing in of a better expectation, through which we draw near to Elohim.

Heb 7:20  And it was not without an oath!

Heb 7:21  For they indeed became priests without an oath, but He became Priest with an oath by Him who said to Him, “יהוה has sworn and shall not regret, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.’ ” 1 Pet 2:9

Heb 7:22  By as much as this יהושע has become a guarantor of a better covenant.

Heb 7:23  And indeed, those that became priests were many, because they were prevented by death from continuing,

Heb 7:24  but (Gk –yet)He, because He remains forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

Heb 7:25  Therefore He is also able to save completely those who draw near to Elohim through Him, ever living to make intercession for them.

Heb 7:26  For it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest – kind, innocent, undefiled, having been separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens,

Heb 7:27  who does not need, as those high priests, to offer up slaughter offerings day by day, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Heb 7:28  For the Torah appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after ,(Gk ‘’meta’’ denotes accompaniment)  the Torah the Son having been perfected forever.

When we who have grown up in the church read this passage of scripture, we immediately assume that the Levitical priesthood has been done away with. This is impossible – see Matt 5:17-19.

Luk 16:17  “And it is easier for the heaven and the earth to pass away than for one tittle of the Torah to fall.

Jer 33:20  “Thus said יהוה, ‘If you could break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there be not day and night in their season,

Jer 33:21  then My covenant could also be broken with Dawiḏ My servant – so that he shall not have a son to reign upon his throne – and with the Lěwites, the priests, My attendants.

One day life as we know it on this planet will come to an end – there will be no sun or moon or seasons – it will only be light –

Rev 21:1  And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth,[a] Isa_65:17 for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more. Footnote: aAlso see Isa_66:22

Rev 21:23  And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it, for the esteem of Elohim lightened it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

Rev 21:24  And the nations, of those who are saved, shall walk in its light,[f] and the sovereigns of the earth bring their esteem into it. Footnote: fSee Isa_60:3

Rev 21:25  And its gates shall not be shut at all by day, for night shall not be there.

Gal 3:23  But before belief came, we were being guarded under Torah, having been shut up for the belief being about to be revealed.

Gal 3:24  Therefore the Torah became our trainer (peidagogos – Gk) unto Messiah, in order to be declared right by belief.

Gal 3:25  And after belief has come, we are no longer under a trainer (Gk – peidagogos)

pahee-dag-o-gos' Strongs 3807

From G3816 and a reduplication form of G71; a boy leader, that is, a servant whose office it was to take the children to school; (by implication [figuratively] a tutor [“paedagogue”]): - instructor, schoolmaster.

Note The Torah is referred to as the ‘’servant’’ who takes us to the ‘’Teacher’’ One day this ‘’escort’’ function will cease because we will be in the presence of our Teacher and we will need no one to instruct us concerning our Teacher and the Truth of Torah, because it will be in our hearts.

1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part shall be inactive.

Jer 31:31  “See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall make a renewed covenant with the house of Yisra’ěl and with the house of Yehuḏah,[a] Footnote: a Heb_8:8-12, Heb_10:16-17

Jer 31:32  not like the covenant I made with their fathers in the day when I strengthened[b] their hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares יהוה. Footnote: b Commonly understood as “take hold of.”

Jer 31:33  “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ěl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.

Jer 31:34  “And no longer shall they teach, each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know יהוה,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares יהוה. “For I shall forgive their crookedness, and remember their sin no more.”

Here we find the Torah pattern of how the priesthood is ordained – then and in the future – See Ezekiel chps40-48 and 1Kings chp  8.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
