Parashat 46 Portion 134 Dev/Deut 10:1-11:25 2 Kings 13:22-25 1 Thess 1:8-9

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah

And so, we see that the underlying theme of “sefer devarim” (Deuteronomy) is “teshuvah” “repentance”

And so, the sages have rightly stated that this parashah is about what is required to usher in the Messianic era.

Parashah Eikev begins with “if you will listen…” paradoxically, then, it is hearing, rather than the more riveting experience of seeing, that enables us to prepare ourselves wholeheartedly for the return of Messiah.

2Co 5:7  for we walk by belief, not by sight.

Rom 10:17  So then belief comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Elohim.

Heb 6:12  ….. imitate those who through belief and patience inherit the promises.

The next parashah “Re eh” or “seeing” … “Deu 11:26  ‘See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:…….” follows our current parashah which focuses on hearing and obeying.

The world is busy ‘’seeing’’ what happens when you reject YHVH’s Word – The Messiah of the Torah.

There will be an end time remnant whose hearts and lives will be prepared to meet the Messiah, because they have listened, obeyed (guarded) and done the word of YHVH.

Deu 10:1  “At that time יהוה said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain. And you shall make yourself an ark of wood,

Deu 10:2  then I write on the tablets the Words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. And you shall put them in the ark.’  - See Stones Chumash p 989. Num 10:33 Stones p 787.

The Torah was always meant to have a resting place – even for the broken pieces – (broken lives) The Torah is also best received and understood in the wilderness of our lives. The “Aharon” was the Set Apart wooden box in which the tablets of the Torah were kept. Today each synagogue has an ‘Aharon Kodesh’ a resting place for the Torah scroll. The wooden box reminds us of a fragile storage space, we can compare this to human beings or human clay vessels.

The broken pieces of the first stone tablets serve to remind us of the ‘’violence done to the Torah’’.

Zep 3:4  Her prophets are reckless, treacherous men. Her priests have profaned the set-apart place, they have done violence to the Torah.[a] Footnote: a Eze_22:26, Luk_16:16

Eze 22:26  “Her priests have done violence to My teaching (Torah) and they profane My set-apart matters. They have not distinguished between the set-apart and profane, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean. And they have hidden their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am profaned in their midst. Footnote: a Zep_3:4, Luk_16:16

Luk 16:16  “The Torah and the prophets are until Yoḥanan. Since then the reign of Elohim is being announced, and everyone is doing violence (b) upon it. Footnote: bSee Eze_22:26, Zep_3:4

Luk 16:17  “And it is easier for the heaven and the earth to pass away than for one tittle of the Torah to fall.

Yahshua – the Torah in the flesh – Yahshua - suffered the most shameful violence at the hands of unrighteous men.

Even until this present day the Torah suffers violence from both Jew and Christian.

Joh 5:46  “For if you believed Mosheh, you would have believed Me, since he wrote about Me.

Joh 5:47  “But if you do not believe his writings,[c] how shall you believe My words?” Footnote: c Luk_16:31.

2Co 4:7  And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power might be of Elohim, and not of us – (the revelation of Messiah in the Torah)

The Torah found a perfect resting place in a perfect clay vessel called “Emmanuel” or “with us is El”- Mt1:23. Through Yashua’s presence and life, YHVH’s presence and life was made known.

The Torah in us, remaining in us, will bring us perfect into the presence of the Almighty.

This is why the Torah instructs us again and again to guard, do and hear this Torah and to teach it to our children all the days of our lives.

Deu 10:3  “So I made an ark of acacia wood, hewed two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain, with the two tablets in my hand.

Deu 10:4  “And He wrote on the tablets according to the first writing, the Ten Words, which יהוה had spoken to you in the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. Then יהוה gave them to me,

Deu 10:5  and I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made. And they are there, as יהוה commanded me.”

Deu 10:6  Now the children of Yisra’ĕl set out from the wells of Benĕi Yaʽaqan(sons of twisting – S1142) to Mosĕrah.( place of chastisement)  Aharon died there, and he was buried there. And Elʽazar his son became priest in his place.

Deu 10:7  From there they set out to Guḏgoḏah, and from Guḏgoḏah(a place of cutting) to Yotḇathah, (pleasantness) land of rivers of water.

Deu 10:8  At that time יהוה separated the tribe of Lĕwi to bear the ark of the covenant of יהוה, to stand before יהוה, to serve Him, and to bless in His Name, to this day.

Jer 33:17  “For thus said יהוה, ‘For Dawiḏ there is not to cease a man to sit on the throne of the house of Yisra’ěl. – Mat1:1

Jer 33:18  And for the priests, the Lěwites, there is not to cease a man to offer ascending offerings before Me, to kindle grain offerings, and to slaughter continually.’ ”

YHVH has never changed His mind concerning the Levites. Anyone called today to stand in a priestly role is merely doing so as a “proxy” until all the temple service and the Levitical priesthood is restored.

Deu 10:9  Therefore Lĕwi has no portion nor inheritance with his brothers. יהוה is his inheritance, as יהוה your Elohim promised him.

Deu 10:10  “And I stayed in the mountain for forty days and forty nights. And יהוה heard me at that time also, and יהוה chose not to destroy you.

Deu 10:11  “And יהוה said to me, ‘Arise, go before the people, to set out, and let them go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

Deu 10:12  “And now, Yisra’ĕl, what is יהוה your Elohim asking of you, but to fear יהוה your Elohim, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to serve יהוה your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being,

Deu 10:13  to guard the commands of יהוה and His laws which I command you today for your good?

This has never changed! – Mat 5:17-19

Deu 10:14  “See, the heavens and the heaven of heavens belong to יהוה your Elohim, also the earth with all that is in it.

Deu 10:15  יהוה delighted only in your fathers, to love them. And He chose their seed after them, you above all peoples1, as it is today. Footnote: 1See also 7:6, 14:2, 26:18, Ps. 135:4 and Amos 3:2.

Deu 10:16  “And you shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and harden your neck no more.

Deu 10:17  “For יהוה your Elohim is Elohim of mighty ones and Master of masters, the great Ěl, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

Deu 10:18  “He executes right-ruling for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and a garment.

Deu 10:19  “And you shall love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Mitsrayim.

Deu 10:20  “Fear יהוה your Elohim. Serve Him, and cling to Him, and swear by His Name.

This is bridal language – we have His Name – we speak and live by His Name and in His Name.

Deu 10:21  “He is your praise, and He is your Elohim, who has done for you these great and awesome deeds which your eyes have seen.

Parashat 46 Portion 133 Dev 9:1-29 Yerm 2:1-13 Yak 4:1-10.

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah.        Our weekly Torah portion:

Deu 9:1  “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: You are passing over the Yardĕn today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and stronger than yourself, cities great and walled (Heb – “”batsar- mysteriously inaccessible) up to the heavens, -

“Shemah Yisrael…” – whenever these two words are used they are immediately intended to call us to listen carefully and pay careful attention as to what is about to be said.

Moshe then goes on to say that Yisrael is crossing the Yarden River on that day. Why is this important?

Firstly Moshe was not crossing over the Yarden. Secondly those crossing the Yarden must not assume that their crossing has something to do with their own obedience and righteousness. This is a lesson to us who call ourselves believers and believe we are entitled to all the blessings and promises of YHVH.

For many Yisraelites this must have been a wonderful day, yet it must also have been a sad day because there were many others that could have crossed over but never did.

This Torah portion seems to draw our attention to the fact that not everyone who calls themselves believers in YHVH and His Messiah automatically qualify to cross over into Yisrael. And not everyone who crosses over the Yarden to Yisrael will automatically stay in Yisrael

“Walled up to the heavens” could imply that these cities were protected by ocultic demonic forces.

We should consider the implications of this matter in a very sober manner. False doctrines have “walled up the truth to the heavens” for many dear precious “called out ones.” Only the mighty power of YHVH working in us will save us from such deception and defeat in the last days.

Deu 9:2  a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anaqim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, ‘Who does stand before the descendants of Anaq?’

Deu 9:3  “And you shall know today that יהוה your Elohim is He who is passing over before you as a consuming fire – He does destroy them and subdue them before you. So you shall dispossess(evict) them and destroy them quickly, as יהוה has said to you.

It is difficult for modern day believers to even entertain the idea that they have been called to destroy those who occupy their inheritance and have become possessed by their religion and intend to do all they can to destroy YHVH’s people and His Torah.

Deu 9:4  “Do not think in your heart, after יהוה your Elohim has driven them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness יהוה has brought me in to possess this land.’ But it is because of the wrong of these nations that יהוה is driving them out from before you.

Deu 9:5  “It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wrong of these nations that יהוה your Elohim drives them out from before you, in order to establish the word which יהוה swore to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Yaʽaqoḇ. (see comment in Stones Chumash p 985 vs 4-6)

Deu 9:6  “And you shall know that יהוה your Elohim is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.

Deu 9:7  “Remember, do not forget how you provoked to wrath יהוה your Elohim in the wilderness. From the day that you came out of the land of Mitsrayim until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against יהוה.

Deu 9:8  “Even in Ḥorĕḇ you made יהוה wroth, so that יהוה was enraged with you, to destroy you.

Note the accusations YHVH makes against His people in vs 6-9.

Does YHVH not remain enraged with those who continually break His covenant and violate His Torah?

Deu 9:9  “When I went up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which יהוה made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I did not eat bread nor did I drink water.
