Parashat 26 Portion 82 Vayikra 9:1-11:47 1 Kings 8:54-61 Mark 7:9-23

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

Parashat Shemini - Shemini- Eighth

HEART OF THE TORAH:

In this portion we find the middle letter and two middle words of the entire Torah sefer. The sages call this Torah Portion the heart of the Torah because they say the Torah was founded upon this Parashah Portion.

There are 304805 letters in the Torah, the middle letter of Torah is the “vav” of Gachon (belly) Lev 11:42 –

The middle words of the Torah is in Lev 10:16 – “Drosh drash” and means “in searching you must search.” (Which mean you must truly search for the truth)

The middle verse is found in the previous parashah ( 5845 verses in the Torah)  Lev 8:8 and put the breastplate on him, and put the Urim and the Tummim in the breastplate. (light and perfections refers to Moshiach)

The sages teach that we can see from this middle letter, word, and verse that they have to do with the spirit soul and body. The heart or central instruction of the Torah has to do with the whole man - 1Th 5:23  And the Elohim of peace Himself set you completely apart, and your entire spirit, and being, and body - be preserved blameless at the coming of our Master יהושע Messiah!

1Th 5:24  He who calls you is trustworthy, who also shall do it.

The number 26 we know is also extremely significant as it pertains to the gematria of the name of YHVH – (yud = 10, hey=5, vav-6, hey=5 total 26)

Lev 9:1  And on the eighth (shemeni) day it came to be that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons and the elders of Yisra’ĕl.

That day was as joyous to YHVH as the day on which (new) heaven and earth were created. (Talmud, Megillah 10b) -italics mine.

This eighth day was the first day (rosh chodesh) of the first month of Aviv(also called Nisan since Babylonian captivity) On this day the tabernacle and priesthood was dedicated and established by YHVH to be His eternal pattern of provision for our return back into His presence – Ex 40:2

The sages tell us that there were many significant new beginnings introduced in this parasha:

  1. First day of the week – (or eighth day) The book of Leviticus introduces this concept more than any other book in scripture – (nine references) Yahshua rose from the dead on the 8 th day of the week -  sealed the promise of the Renewed Covenant for ever -  now it could never change - He established the surety of a new beginning for all humanity.
  2. Here we see the first day the princes of Yisrael bring special gifts. The tribe of Yahudah was the first in dedicating gifts to the altar.
  3.  On this eighth day Aharon’s sons become priests, serving Yisrael - performing priestly service.
  4. Eighth day fire descended on the altar –that came from Elohim.
  5. Eighth day was the first “tamid” ie continual offering morning and afternoon.
  6. First offerings eaten or totally consumed –
  7. First evidence of the “shechina” or presence of YHVH entered into the tabernacle
  8. First day the Aharonic blessing was spoken.
  9. First time new instruction given about altars. No other altars where priestly duties carried out were to be erected - no one could just go and erect an altar and bring an offering to YHVH.
  10. First time “rosh chodesh” – new moon ceremony conducted. (Will this be true of the last days altar?)

Lev 9:1  And on the eighth day it came to be that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons and the elders of Yisra’ĕl.

Parashat 25 Portion 81 Vayikra/Lev 8:1-36 Ez 43:27- 44:8 Heb 7:11-28

Heb 7:11  Truly, then, if perfection were through the Lĕwitical priesthood – for under it the people were given the Torah – why was there still need for another priest to arise according to the order of Malkitseḏeq, and not be called according to the order of Aharon?

Heb 7:12  For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law1 also. Footnote: 1Heb. 7:12. See “Law” in Explanatory notes.

Heb 7:13  For He of whom this is said belongs to another tribe, from which no one had attended at the altar.1 Footnote: 1See “Altar” in Explanatory notes.

Heb 7:14  For it is perfectly clear that our Master arose from Yehuḏah, a tribe about which Mosheh never spoke of concerning priesthood,

Heb 7:15  and this is clearer still, if another priest arises in the likeness of Malkitseḏeq,

Heb 7:16  who has become, not according to the Torah of fleshly command, but according to the power of an endless life,

Heb 7:17  for He does witness, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.”

Heb 7:18  For there is indeed a setting aside of the former command because of its weakness and unprofitableness,

Heb 7:19  for the Torah perfected naught, but the bringing in of a better expectation, through which we draw near to Elohim.

Heb 7:20  And it was not without an oath!

Heb 7:21  For they indeed became priests without an oath, but He became Priest with an oath by Him who said to Him, “יהוה has sworn and shall not regret, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.’ ”

Heb 7:22  By as much as this יהושע has become a guarantor of a better covenant.

Heb 7:23  And indeed, those that became priests were many, because they were prevented by death from continuing,

Heb 7:24  but (Gk –yet)He, because He remains forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

Heb 7:25  Therefore He is also able to save completely those who draw near to Elohim through Him, ever living to make intercession for them.

Heb 7:26  For it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest – kind, innocent, undefiled, having been separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens,

Heb 7:27  who does not need, as those high priests, to offer up slaughter offerings day by day, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Heb 7:28  For the Torah appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the Torah, appoints the Son having been perfected forever.

When we who have grown up in the church read this passage of scripture we immediately assume that the Levitical priesthood has been done away with. This is impossible – see Matt 5:17-19.

Mat 5:18  “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.[f] Footnote: f Luk_16:17.

Luk 16:17  “And it is easier for the heaven and the earth to pass away than for one tittle of the Torah to fall.

Jer 33:20  “Thus said יהוה, ‘If you could break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there be not day and night in their season,

Jer 33:21  then My covenant could also be broken with Dawiḏ My servant – so that he shall not have a son to reign upon his throne – and with the Lěwites, the priests, My attendants.

One day life as we know it on this planet will come to an end – there will be no sun or moon or seasons – it will only be light –

Rev 21:1  And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth,[a] Isa_65:17 for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more. Footnote: aAlso see Isa_66:22

Rev 21:23  And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it, for the esteem of Elohim lightened it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

Rev 21:24  And the nations, of those who are saved, shall walk in its light,[f] and the sovereigns of the earth bring their esteem into it. Footnote: fSee Isa_60:3.

Rev 21:25  And its gates shall not be shut at all by day, for night shall not be there.

Gal 3:23  But before belief came, we were being guarded under Torah, having been shut up for the belief being about to be revealed.

Gal 3:24  Therefore the Torah became our trainer (peidagogos – Gk) unto Messiah, in order to be declared right by belief.

Gal 3:25  And after belief has come, we are no longer under a trainer (Gk – peidagogos)

 pahee-dag-o-gos' Strongs 3807

From G3816 and a reduplication form of G71; a boy leader, that is, a servant whose office it was to take the children to school; (by implication [figuratively] a tutor [“paedagogue”]): - instructor, schoolmaster.

Note The Torah is referred to as the ‘’servant’’ who takes us to the ‘’Teacher’’ One day this ‘’escort’’

Parashat 25 Portion 80 Tzav – Vayikra/Lev 6:8-7:38 Mal0471 3:4-12 Luke 6:39-49

English translation: Blessed art Thou, YHVH  our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah.

Lev 6:8  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 6:9  “Command Aharon and his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the burnt offering: This is the burnt offering, because it is burned on the altar all night until morning, and the fire of the altar is kept burning on it.

2 Command Aaron and his sons, saying: This is the law of the burnt-offering: it is that which goeth up on its firewood upon the altar all night unto the morning; and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning thereby.

Or this is the ascent offering on account of its glow (mokdah) on the altar all night until morning, the fire of the altar shall be kept glowing (tukad) upon it.

The words “mokdah” and “tukad” come from the root word “yakad” which means to kindle. The “mokdah” was possibly the burning coals that came from the logs (much like our charcoal used when we barbeque) It was from this “mokdah” that coals were taken for the golden altar of incense (this is also possibly why Aharons two sons were killed because they did not take coals from the brazen altar but rather took fire from elsewhere - strange fire) This word “mokdah” is written in the Torah scroll with a diminished “mem”

“Mem” is the Hebrew letter that speaks of water or life. We believe that it is the Ruach of YHVH that brings and gives us life.

Luk 3:16  Yoḥanan answered, saying to them all, “I indeed immerse you in water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal straps I am not worthy to loosen. He shall immerse you in the Set-apart Spirit and fire - וחנן המטביל

The outpouring of the Ruach on the day of Shavuot (translated as Pentecost from the Greek but Torah calls it Shavuot in Hebrew) is compared to fire.

Act 2:3  And there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and settled on each one of them.

The messengers of YHVH are also compared with fire - Heb 1:7  And of the messengers indeed He says, “… who is making His messengers spirits and His servants a flame of fire.” Psa_104:4

Heb 12:29  for indeed, our Elohim is a consuming fire. Deu_4:24.

The dimished “mem” could refer to mere human vessels that YHVH chooses to fill with the ‘’burning fire’’ of His Ruach. This flame is continually kindled by the study and obedience to Torah.

The diminished “mem” could also refer to someone who allows these burning coals to continually purify them of all unclean things – because only when we are cleansed can we live in relationships that bring life.  One of the most important issues of offerings was to restore fractured relationships.

Isa 6:6  And one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar.

Isa 6:7  And he touched my mouth with it, and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your crookedness is taken away, and your sin is covered.”

Even though the temple has been destroyed Yahshua came to kindle a flame amongst those who would follow him. The Messiah will rebuild the temple and only those who have the same “mokdah” as Messiah will rule and reign with him.

Luk 12:49  “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

Luk 12:50  “But I have an immersion to be immersed with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

Luk 12:51  “Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? I say to you, no, but rather division.

2Pe 3:10  But the day of יהוה shall come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

2Pe 3:11  Seeing all these are to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be in set-apart behaviour and reverence,

2Pe 3:12  looking for and hastening the coming of the day of Elohim, through which the heavens shall be destroyed, being set on fire, and the elements melt with intense heat!

2Pe 3:13  But according to His promise we wait for a renewed heavens and a renewed earth Isa_65:17, Isa_66:22 in which righteousness dwells.

1Co 3:13  each one’s work shall be revealed, for the day shall show it up, because it is revealed by fire. And the fire shall prove the work of each one, what sort it is.

1Co 3:14  If anyone’s work remains, which he has built on, he shall receive a reward.

1Co 3:15  If anyone’s work is burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

The Prophet Joel declared that the ‘’day of YHVH’’ would be like a consuming fire – Joel 2:3

Joe 2:30  “And I shall give signs in the heavens and upon the earth: blood and fire and columns of smoke,

Joe 2:31  the sun is turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of יהוה

The offering system is a pattern of how we are to live our lives in Messiah – Rom 12.

Lev 6:10  ‘And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and put his linen trousers on his body, and shall take up the ashes of the burnt offering which the fire has consumed on the altar, and shall put them beside the altar.

Lev 6:11  ‘And he shall take off his garments, and put on other garments, and shall bring the ashes outside the camp to a clean place. (Num 19 – Ashes of the red heifer- like Messiah, his contamination brings cleansing for those outside the camp – see also Heb 13:)

Heb 13:10  We have a slaughter-place from which those serving the Tent have no authority to eat.

Heb 13:11  For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the Set-apart Place by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp.

Heb 13:12  And so יהושע also suffered outside the gate, to set apart the people with His own blood.

Heb 13:13  Let us, then, go to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach.

Heb 13:14  For we have no lasting city here, but we seek the one coming.

Heb 13:15  Through Him then, let us continually offer up a slaughter offering of praise to Elohim, that is, the fruit[c] of our lips, giving thanks to His Name. Footnote: cOr “bulls of our lips” – See Hos_14:2

Heb 13:16  And do not forget to do good and to share, for with such slaughter offerings Elohim is well pleased.

Lev 6:12  ‘And the fire on the altar is kept burning on it, it is not put out. And the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and arrange the burnt offering on it, and shall burn on it the fat of the peace offerings –

Lev 6:13  fire is continually kept burning on the altar, it is not put out.

Shaul possibly is referring to this burnt offering when in Romans 12.

Rom 12:1  I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship.

Rom 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

Rom 12:3  For I say, through the favour which has been given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he should think, but to think soberly, as Elohim has given to each a measure of belief.

Lev 6:14  ‘And this is the Torah of the grain offering: The sons of Aharon shall bring it near before יהוה, in front of the altar,

Lev 6:15  and shall take from it with his hand from the fine flour of the grain offering, and from its oil, and all the frankincense which is on the grain offering, and shall burn it on the altar for a sweet fragrance, as its remembrance portion to יהוה.

Lev 6:16  ‘Then Aharon and his sons eat the rest of it. It is eaten with unleavened bread, in the set-apart place. They eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting.

Lev 6:17  ‘It is not baked with leaven. I have given it to them as their portion of My offerings made by fire, it is most set-apart, like the sin offering and the guilt offering.

Lev 6:18  ‘All the males among the children of Aharon eat it – a law forever in your generations concerning the offerings made by fire to יהוה. All that touches them is to be set-apart.’”

Lev 6:19  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 6:20  “This is the offering of Aharon and his sons, which they bring near to יהוה, beginning on the day when he is anointed: one-tenth of an ĕphah of fine flour as a daily grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it at night.

Lev 6:21  “It is made on a griddle with oil. Bring it in mixed, bring the baked portions of the grain offering near, a sweet fragrance to יהוה.

Lev 6:22  “And the anointed priest from among his sons, who is in his place, prepares it – a law forever to יהוה. All of it has to be burned,

Lev 6:23  and every grain offering for the priest is completely burned, it is not eaten.”

Lev 6:24  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 6:25  “Speak to Aharon and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the Torah of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering is slaughtered before יהוה, it is most set-apart.

Lev 6:26  ‘The priest who is making atonement eats it, in the set-apart place it is eaten, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting.

Lev 6:27  ‘All that touches its flesh is to be set-apart. And when its blood is sprinkled on any garment, you wash that on which it was sprinkled, in a set-apart place.

Lev 6:28  ‘But the earthen vessel in which it is cooked is to be broken. And if it is cooked in a bronze pot, then it is scoured and rinsed in water.

Lev 6:29  ‘Every male among the priests eats it, it is most set-apart.

Lev 6:30  ‘And no sin offering from which any of the blood is brought into the Tent of Meeting, to make atonement in the set-apart place, is eaten, it is burned with fire.

Lev 7:1  ‘And this is the Torah of the guilt offering – it is most set-apart.

Lev 7:2  ‘The guilt offering is slaughtered in the place where they slaughter the burnt offering, and its blood is sprinkled on the altar all around.

Lev 7:3  ‘Then he brings from it all its fat: the fat tail and the fat that covers the entrails,

Lev 7:4  and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them by the loins, and the appendage on the liver, which he removes with the kidneys.

Lev 7:5  ‘And the priest shall burn them on the altar as an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a guilt offering.

Lev 7:6  ‘Every male among the priests eats it. It is eaten in the set-apart place, it is most set-apart.

Lev 7:7  ‘The guilt offering is like the sin offering, there is one Torah for them both: the priest who makes atonement with it, it is his.

Lev 7:8  ‘And the priest who brings anyone’s burnt offering, the skin of the burnt offering which he has brought is the priest’s, it is his.

Lev 7:9  ‘And every grain offering that is baked in the oven and all that is prepared in the stewing-pot, or on a griddle, is the priest’s who brings it, it is his.

Lev 7:10  ‘And every grain offering mixed with oil, or dry, is for all the sons of Aharon, for all alike.

Why are the sin and guilt offering called most set apart of the fire offerings? (Lev 2:3 tells us that the grain offering is the most set apart of all the fire offerings)

The sin and guilt offering (also the burnt offering) were offered on the northern side of the altar (mizbeach). “North in Hebrew is “tzaphon” and speaks of that which is hidden or a mystery.

Lev 7:11  ‘And this is the Torah of the slaughtering of peace offerings which is brought to יהוה:

Lev 7:12  ‘If he brings it for a thanksgiving, then he shall bring with the slaughtering of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened thin cakes anointed with oil, or cakes of finely blended flour mixed with oil.

Lev 7:13  ‘Besides the cakes, he brings as his offering leavened bread together with the slaughtering of thanksgiving of his peace offering.

Lev 7:14  ‘And from it he shall bring one cake from each offering as a contribution to יהוה: to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offering, it is his.

Lev 7:15  ‘As for the flesh of the slaughtering of his peace offering for thanksgiving, it is eaten the same day it is offered, he does not leave any of it until morning.

Lev 7:16  ‘And if the offering he brings is a vow or a voluntary offering, it is eaten the same day that he brings his slaughtering, and what is left of it is eaten the next day,

Lev 7:17  but whatever is left of the flesh of the slaughtering on the third day is burned with fire.

Lev 7:18  ‘However, if any of the flesh of his peace offering is eaten at all on the third day, it is not accepted. It is not reckoned to him who brings it, it is unclean to him, and the being who eats of it bears his crookedness.

Lev 7:19  ‘And the flesh that touches that which is unclean is not eaten, it is burned with fire. And as for the clean flesh, all who are clean eat of it.

Lev 7:20  ‘But the being who eats the flesh of the peace offering that belongs to יהוה, while he is unclean, that being shall be cut off from his people.

In essence, tum’ah, “spiritual impurity,” is definable as the “absence of set apartness”

This is one the reasons we submit to a mikvah (immersion) to acknowledge our impurity and receive cleansing from YHVH.

Lev 7:21  ‘And when a being who touches that which is unclean, of the uncleanness of man, or of the uncleanness of beast, or of any unclean swarming creature, and shall eat the flesh of the peace offering that belongs to יהוה, that being shall be cut off from his people.’

That is why Shaul advises us before we take the Passover to examine ourselves that we are discerning the body of Messiah in the proper way. Remember the times of our ignorance He has winked at, in these coming days we will no longer get away with our ignorance and disobedience. (1 Cor 11:23-32;Acts 17:30)

Lev 7:22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 7:23  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘Do not eat any fat, of bull or sheep or goat.

Lev 7:24  ‘And the fat of a dead body, and the fat of what is torn, is used for any purpose, but you do not eat it at all.

Lev 7:25  ‘For whoever eats the fat of the beast of which men bring as an offering made by fire to יהוה, even the being who eats it shall be cut off from his people.

Lev 7:26  ‘And do not eat any blood in any of your dwellings, of bird or of beast.

Lev 7:27  ‘Any being who eats any blood, even that being shall be cut off from his people.’ ”

Lev 7:28  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 7:29  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘He who brings his peace offering to יהוה brings his offering to יהוה from the slaughtering of his peace offering.

Lev 7:30  ‘With his own hands he bring the offerings made by fire to יהוה. He brings the fat with the breast, to be waved as a wave offering before יהוה.

Lev 7:31  ‘And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aharon’s and his sons.’

Lev 7:32  ‘And the right thigh you give to the priest as a contribution from your peace offerings.

Lev 7:33  ‘He among the sons of Aharon, who brings the blood of the peace offering, and the fat, the right thigh is his for a portion.

Lev 7:34  ‘For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution I have taken from the children of Yisra’ĕl, from their peace offerings, and I give them to Aharon the priest and to his sons, as a law forever, from the children of Yisra’ĕl.’ ”

Lev 7:35  This is the anointed portion for Aharon and the anointed portion for his sons, from the offerings made by fire to יהוה, on the day when Mosheh presented them to serve as priests to יהוה,

Lev 7:36  which יהוה commanded to be given to them by the children of Yisra’ĕl, on the day that He anointed them, a law forever throughout their generations.

Lev 7:37  This is the Torah of the burnt offering, of the grain offering, and of the sin offering, and of the guilt offering, and of the ordinations, and of the peace offering,

Lev 7:38  which יהוה commanded Mosheh on Mount Sinai, on the day when He commanded the children of Yisra’ĕl to bring their offerings to יהוה, in the Wilderness of Sinai.

The hidden mystery of the offerings becomes clear when we see offerings in the light of the restoration of all things – ‘’tikkun olam’’

1Pe 1:2  chosen according to the foreknowledge of Elohim the Father, set apart by the Spirit unto obedience[a] and sprinkling of the blood of יהושע Messiah: Favour and peace be increased to you.

1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the Elohim and Father of our Master יהושע Messiah, who according to His great compassion has caused us to be born again to a living expectation through the resurrection of יהושע Messiah from the dead,

1Pe 1:4  to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, having been kept in the heavens for you,

1Pe 1:5  who are protected by the power of Elohim through belief, for a deliverance ready to be revealed in the last time,

1Pe 1:6  in which you exult, even though for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by manifold trials,

1Pe 1:7  in order that the proving of your belief – much more precious than gold that perishes, and proven by fire – might be found to result in praise and respect and esteem at the revelation of יהושע Messiah,

Act 3:19  “Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master,

Act 3:20  and that He sends יהושע Messiah, pre-appointed for you,

Act 3:21  whom heaven needs to receive until the times of restoration of all matters, of which Elohim spoke through the mouth of all His set-apart prophets since of old.

Even though there is no offerings or temple service on earth there is still a temple and an altar that is operating in the presence of YHVH.

Mat 20:23  And He said to them, “You shall indeed drink My cup, and you shall be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with.

(Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.)
