Parashat 21 ‘’Ki Tisa’’ Portion 74 Shemot 31:1-32:14 Ez 20:1-17 Col 3:1-5

Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.

ראה קראתי – see (discern, consider) I have called you out (summonsed) ….. you by your name – Betsalel and Aholiav.

All the previous instruction regarding the Tabernacle was given to Moshe while on Mount Sinai. Now Moshe is about to return to the camp of the Israelites with all this instruction and the two tablets of ‘’commandments.’’ Finally, the time had come for the skilled and gifted artisans of Israel to carry out these instructions and build the Tabernacle – ‘’a shadow Marriage Tent’’ -The two men appointed and anointed to lead the construction were Betsal’ĕl, whose name means ‘’in the shadow of El’’ and ‘’Aholiav’’ which means “my Fathers Tent”.

Yahshua said in Mat 22:14  “For many are called,( קרא) but few are chosen.”[a] Footnote: aSee Mat_20:16.

Called and chosen to enter His Marriage chamber. Why are so few chosen? Because the Desire and Work of YHVH can only be carried out and completed by the sustained guidance and anointing of His Set Apart Spirit.

The Tabernacle represents a ‘’Marriage Tent’’ The first part is the ‘’Preparation Chamber’’ and the second part is the ‘’Marriage Chamber’’ where the ‘’Marriage’’ will be finally ‘’Consummated’’ on the ‘’eighth day’’

Heb 9:2  For a Tent was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, and the table, and the showbread, which is called the Set-apart Place. Heb 9:3  And after the second veil, the part of the Tent which is called Most Set-apart.

Eph 5:31  “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” Gen_2:24. Eph 5:32  This secret is great, but I speak concerning Messiah and the assembly.

Exo 31:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 31:2  “See, I have called (ראה קראתי) by name Betsal’ĕl(in the shadow of El) son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah,

Exo 31:3  and I have filled him with the Spirit of Elohim in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work,

The infilling of the Set Apart Spirit is not just a ‘’Christian’’ concept and was always intended by YHVH to serve a specific purpose. The purpose of this infilling was always to provide an enabling beyond our natural abilities to bring us back into His Presence as well as calling others to do the same.

Exo 31:4  to make designs for work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze,

Exo 31:5  and in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all work.

Exo 31:6  “And I, look I have appointed with him Oholiaḇ(Fathers tent) son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan. And I have put wisdom in the hearts of everyone who is wise-hearted, and they shall make all that I have commanded you:

Exo 31:7  the Tent of Meeting, and the ark of the Witness and the lid of atonement that is on it, and all the utensils of the Tent,

Exo 31:8  and the table and its utensils, and the clean gold lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense,

Exo 31:9  and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand,

Exo 31:10  and the woven garments, and the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest and the garments of his sons, for serving as priests,

Exo 31:11  and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the Set-apart Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they are to do.”

YHVH not only creates a set apart space for His people but also appoints set apart times for His people to come together. These set apart times are also called ‘’rehearsals’’ or ‘’moadim’’ (Appointments)

The Sabbath is one of the- מועדים’’moadim’’ and also connects the creation of the Tabernacle with guarding the sabbath. We can compare the creation of the Tabernacle with the creation of the world. Three chapters in the scriptures are dedicated to the creation of the heavens and the earth, fifty chapters are dedicated to the creating of the Tabernacle.

After YHVH created the heavens and the earth and all that was in them – He rested – and reflected over His creation. He saw that it was good. Adam and Eve’s first day on earth was a sabbath – they too were called to rest and reflect on YHVH’s marvellous works and praise Him and enjoy His Perfection and Beauty in His Presence. Then man sinned, was put out of the garden, and separated from the presence of YHVH.

Then, YHVH co-creates with man another beautiful ‘’dwelling place’’ called the Tabernacle – where He can become reconciled to man and His creation. Once again man is called, this time not only to reflect on His Creation, but now also on His Path of Redemption. The Tabernacle would serve as a pattern and an invitation for man to return to YHVH to become one with Him again.

Perhaps this is why we kindle two candles on sabbath – one to reflect on creation and one to reflect on His Redemption – His Pathway back into His Presence.

Exo 31:12  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 31:13  “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign1 between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, יהוה, am setting you apart. Footnote: 1The only sign of יהוה setting us apart, the only sign of the everlasting covenant, is His Sabbaths, one of them being the seventh day Sabbath. This is repeated in Ezek. 20:12 & 20.

Eze 20:12  “And I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign[a] between them and Me, to know that I am יהוה who sets them apart. Footnote: aSee also Exo_31:13-17.

Eze 20:13  “But the house of Yisra’ěl rebelled against Me in the wilderness. They did not walk in My laws, and they rejected My right-rulings, which, if a man does, he shall live by them. And they greatly profaned My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My wrath on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

Eze 20:14  “But I acted for My Name’s sake, not to profane it before the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them out.

Eze 20:15  “And I Myself also lifted My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, not to bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, the splendour of all lands,

Eze 20:16  because they rejected My right-rulings and did not walk in My laws, and they profaned My Sabbaths. For their heart went after their idols.

Eze 20:17  “And My eye pardoned them, from destroying them. And I did not make an end of them in the wilderness.

Eze 20:18  “And I said to their children in the wilderness, ‘Do not walk in the laws of your fathers, nor observe their rulings, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

Eze 20:19  I am יהוה your Elohim. Walk in My laws, and guard My right-rulings, and do them.

Eze 20:20  And set apart My Sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, to know that I am יהוה your Elohim.’

Eze 20:21  “But the children rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My laws, and My right-rulings they did not guard to do them, which, if a man does, he shall live by them. They profaned My Sabbaths, so I resolved to pour out My wrath on them to complete My displeasure against them in the wilderness.

Eze 20:22  “But I held back My hand and acted for My Name’s sake, not to profane it before the eyes of the nations, before whose eyes I had brought them out.

Eze 20:23  “Also, I Myself lifted My hand in an oath to those in the wilderness, to scatter them among the nations and disperse them throughout the lands,

Eze 20:24  because they had not done My right-rulings, and they rejected My laws, and they profaned My Sabbaths, and their eyes were on their fathers’ idols.

This is an extremely profound prophecy – repeated twice here – why? It served as a warning that many in the nation of Israel failed to enter the Promised Land because they disobeyed the Sabbath instruction.

So, too, will and end time generation of believers fail to be part of the Bride of Messiah in the millennial kingdom of Messiah because they failed to obey the Sabbath instructions.

Exo 31:14  ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work (Heb – “malacha” or occupational work) on it, that being shall be cut off from among his people.

Exo 31:15  ‘Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-apart to יהוה. Everyone doing work on the Sabbath day shall certainly be put to death.

Exo 31:16  ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant.

Exo 31:17  ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.”

Exo 31:18  And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.

Exo 32:1  And when the people saw that Mosheh was so long in coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aharon, and said to him, “Arise, make us mighty ones who go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.”

The same can be said of the ‘’delay’’ of the coming of Messiah. Both Jew and Christian have succumbed under the deception of idolatry and have created fanciful and idolatrous narratives about the truth of YHVH’s Deliverance and then bowed down to them and have shamelessly proclaimed their lies as the truth.

As Moshe carried with him YHVH instructions and promises for the Israelites to enter the promised land, so too our Messiah brings with him these same instructions in order for believers to enter into the millennial kingdom.

The scriptures seem to indicate that most people who call themselves believers will not enter the millennial kingdom. This reality is confirmed by Yahshua’s own words in Mat 22:11  “And when the sovereign came in to view the guests, he saw there a man who had not put on a wedding garment,

Mat 22:12  and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Mat 22:13  “Then the sovereign said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him out into the outer darkness – there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Mat 22:14  “For many are called, but few are chosen.”[a] Footnote: aSee Mat_20:16

Mat 7:21  “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens. Mat 7:22  “Many (Gk ‘’most’’) shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ Mat 7:23  “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’[c] Psa_6:8. Footnote: cSee Mat_7:15, and also Mat_13:41-42.

Isa 1:9  Unless יהוה of hosts had left to us a small remnant,( כמעט שׂריד) we would have become like Seḏom, we would have been made like Amorah.

The majority of all people including believers ‘’cling’’ to their idolatrous ways this is surely the mystery of lawlessness or Torahlessness - 2Th 2:7  For the secret of lawlessness is already at work – only until he who now restrains comes out of the midst.

Paul explained that before this ‘’mystery’ would be revealed there would be a ‘’falling away’’ before the man of ‘’lawlessness’’ would be revealed. Who is this man of lawlessness? No one knows yet but perhaps we will soon find out.

Exo 32:2  And Aharon said to them, “Take off – Heb parak -(tear or break) the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”

Exo 32:3  “And all the people took off(tear or break) the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.  (why tear? Because they had become so attached them)

Exo 32:4  And he took this from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool, and made a moulded calf. And they said, “This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl, that brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!”

Exo 32:5  And Aharon saw and built an altar before it. And Aharon called out and said, “Tomorrow is a festival to יהוה.”

Most Christians still cling to their pagan altars built to honour Christmas and Easter.

Exo 32:6  And they rose early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Exo 32:7  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Mitsrayim have corrupted themselves.

Exo 32:8  “They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a moulded calf, and have bowed themselves to it and slaughtered to it, and said, ‘This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!’ ”

Exo 32:9  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “I have seen this people, and see, it is a stiff-necked people!

Exo 32:10  “And now, let Me alone, that My wrath might burn against them and I consume them and I make of you a great nation.”

Exo 32:11  But Mosheh pleaded with יהוה his Elohim, and said, “יהוה, why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with a strong hand?

Exo 32:12  “Why should the Mitsrites speak, and say, ‘For evil He brought them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from the heat of Your wrath, and relent from this evil to Your people.

Exo 32:13  “Remember Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and Yisra’ĕl, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I increase your seed like the stars of the heavens. And all this land that I have spoken of I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”

Exo 32:14  And יהוה relented from the evil which He said He would do to His people.

YHVH wants to hear Himself in us – YHVH heard His merciful intercessory words in Moshe’s mouth and ‘’relented’’ to destroy the children of Yisrael. If Moshe did not plead for Yisrael, they would all have been destroyed- only Moshe would have survived.

If Yahshua had not interceded for all of mankind – we all except Him would have been destroyed.

The biggest miracle in the last days will be for people to survive – very few will survive in the last days. Isa 13:12  “I shall make mortal man scarcer than fine gold, and mankind scarcer than the gold of Ophir.’’

Why build a golden calf? This is what all religious people do. They fashion ideas and doctrines about YHVH and His Messiah and they bow down and pay homage to them.

Will a passionate intercessory plea come from the mouths and hearts of a faithful remnant in the last days pleading that YHVH would once again have mercy on an evil and idolatrous nation? Even if He doesn’t hear our plea, it still needs to be heard   - from broken hearts.

Let us not be wise in our own understanding concerning these matters or any other matters pertaining to our deliverance from this world because flesh and blood cannot reveal these matters to us but only our Father in Heaven.

Rev 3:10  “Because you have guarded My Word of endurance, I also shall guard you from the hour of trial which shall come upon all the world, to try those who dwell on the earth.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Parashat 21 Portion 73 ‘’ki Tisa’’Shem/Ex 30:1-38 Mal 1:11-2:7

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

ועשׂית מזבח – ‘’you shall make an altar’’

Building altars was one of the central priorities for our patriarchs – True Israelites were and remain pilgrims on a journey to the ‘’promised land’’ or ‘’Messianic Kingdom’’ – their lifestyle consisted of ‘’building altars’’, ‘’pitching their tents’’,  and ‘’digging wells’’ - Gen 26:25  And he(Abraham) built a slaughter-place(altar) there, and called on the Name of יהוה, and he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Yitsḥaq dug a well there.

To embrace true spirituality, we discover that our pilgrimage in this life is about Him who has called us and loved us, and our lives are measured by our willingness to lay down our lives for Him and others. The altar was the appointed place of YHVH where a set apart Israelite man would hear ‘’shemah’’ and respond to YHVH. The altar was a place of complete surrender to YHVH and His Will.

The Altar of Incense

Exo 30:1  “And you shall make a slaughter-place to burn incense on, make it of acacia wood,

Exo 30:2  a cubit long and a cubit wide – it is a square – and two cubits high, its horns of the same.

Exo 30:3  “And you shall overlay its top, and its sides all around, and its horns with clean gold. And you shall make for it a moulding of gold all around.

Exo 30:4  “And make two gold rings for it, under the moulding on both its sides. Make them on its two sides, and they shall be holders for the poles to lift it with.

Exo 30:5  “And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.

Exo 30:6  “And you shall put it before the veil that is before the ark of the Witness, before the lid of atonement that is over the Witness, where I am to meet with you.

Exo 30:7  “And Aharon shall burn on it sweet incense, morning by morning. As he tends the lamps, he shall burn incense on it.

Exo 30:8  “And when Aharon lights the lamps between the evenings, he shall burn incense on it – a continual incense before יהוה throughout your generations.

Exo 30:9  “Do not offer strange incense on it, or an ascending offering, or a grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.

Exo 30:10  “And Aharon shall make atonement upon its horns once a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonement – once a year he makes atonement upon it throughout your generations. It is most set-apart to יהוה.”

There are very few men that have had the profound insight of the Apostle Paul in these matters concerning a man’s spiritual journey - Gal 2:20  “I have been impaled with Messiah, and I no longer live, but Messiah lives in me.[b]And that which I now live in the flesh I live by belief in the Son of Elohim, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Footnote: b Rom_8:10, 2Co_6:16, 2Co_13:5, Eph_3:17, Col_1:27, 1Jn_4:4

Paul goes on to capture much of the essence of this week’s Torah portion in 2Co 2:14 - But thanks be to Elohim who always leads us on, to overcome in Messiah, and manifests through us the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 2Co 2:15  Because we are to Elohim the fragrance of Messiah among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 2Co 2:16  To the one we are the smell of death to death, and to the other the fragrance of life to life. And who is competent for these? 2Co 2:17  For we are not, as so many, adulterating the Word of Elohim for gain – but as of sincerity, but as from Elohim, in the sight of Elohim, we speak in Messiah.

We discover that as we learn about the altar that all offerings placed on these altars were first subject to some form of ‘’death’’ or ‘’crushing transformation’’ before been placed on the altar. How does this reality tie in with taking a census? You could only count ‘’dead men’’

The Census Tax – Parashat 21 ‘’Ki Tisa’’ -

Exo 30:11  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 30:12  “When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ěl, to register them, then each one shall give an atonement for his life to יהוה, when you register them, so that there is no plague among them when you register them.

12 'When you (sing) will lift up the head of bnei Yisrael to cause them to be called to account they cause a man to be given a covering atonement for his soul unto YHVH, to be counted; and not to be for them a fatal plague-. for a sheltering covering is with them.

'Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, by their polls;(skulls) - Num 1:2

לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָם – Strongs 1538 – ‘’gûlgôleth’’ or ‘’skull’’ Maybe it’s only ‘’dead’’ men that can be counted.

Joh 19:17  And bearing His stake, He went out to the so-called Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, Joh 19:18  where they impaled Him, and two others with Him, one on this side and one on that side, and יהושע in the middle.

Only a REMNANT obeyed the giving of the half shekel – Ex 38:25,26.

25 And the silver of them that were numbered of the congregation was a hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and three-score and fifteen shekels, (1775) after the shekel of the sanctuary:

26 a beka a head,(skull) that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that passed over to them that are numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.

If we do the math’s there was 603550 men 20 years and over. There was only 1175 shekels times 2 to get to the sum of men who obeyed the command of the ‘’half shekel’’ equals 3500 men equals 0,58% of the 603550 men counted in the first census.

Exo 30:13  “Everyone among those who are registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, twenty gěrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the contribution to יהוה

Exo 30:14  “Everyone passing over to be registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to יהוה

Exo 30:15  “The rich does not give more and the poor does not give less than half a sheqel, when you give a contribution to יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves. (value between R250 – R500)

Exo 30:16  “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of Yisra’ěl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Appointment. And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ěl for a remembrance before יהוה, to make atonement for yourselves.”

Yahshua paid this half shekel temple tax:

Mat 17:24  And when they came into Kephar Naḥum, those who received the tax came to Kěpha and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the tax?” temple tax)Mat 17:25  He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, יהושע spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Shim‛on? From whom do the sovereigns of the earth take toll or tax, from their own sons or from the strangers?” Mat 17:26  Kěpha then said to Him, “From the strangers.” יהושע said to him, “Then the sons are exempt. Mat 17:27  “But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a stater.c Take that and give it to them for Me and you.” Footnote: c A coin -see also Rev 21:14

The Hebrew word “bekah” or half shekel (Shemot 38:26) means “to cleave or to rend to break open” we associate with the suffering of Messiah.

The Bronze Basin

Exo 30:17  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 30:18  “And you shall make a basin of bronze, with its stand also of bronze, for washing. And you shall put it between the Tent of Appointment and the slaughter-place and shall put water in it.

Exo 30:19  “And Aharon and his sons shall wash from it their hands and their feet.

Exo 30:20  “When they go into the Tent of Appointment, or when they come near the slaughter-place to attend, to burn an offering made by fire to יהוה, they wash with water, lest they die.

Exo 30:21  “And they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall be a law forever to them, to him and his seed throughout their generations.”

This basin was made from mirrors belonging to the women who guarded the entrance of the Tabernacle. Perhaps this gave the priests an opportunity to first examine themselves before entering the Tabernacle. Exo 38:8  And he made the basin of bronze and its stand of bronze, from the bronze mirrors of the serving women who did service at the door of the Tent of Appointment.

The Anointing Oil and Incense

Exo 30:22  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Exo 30:23  “And take for yourself choice spices, five hundred sheqels of liquid myrrh, and half as much – two hundred and fifty – of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty of sweet-smelling cane,

Exo 30:24  and five hundred of cassia, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place, and a hin of olive oil.

Exo 30:25  “And you shall make from these a set-apart anointing oil, a compound, blended, the work of a perfumer. It is a set-apart anointing oil.

Exo 30:26  “And with it you shall anoint the Tent of Appointment and the ark of the Witness,

Exo 30:27  and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the slaughter-place of incense,

Exo 30:28  and the slaughter-place of ascending offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand.

Exo 30:29  “And you shall set them apart, and they shall be most set-apart. Whatever touches them is to be set-apart.

Exo 30:30  “And you shall anoint Aharon and his sons, and set them apart, to serve as priests to Me.

Exo 30:31  “And speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘This is a set-apart anointing oil to Me throughout your generations.

Exo 30:32  ‘It shall not be poured on the flesh of a man, and make no other like it, according to its composition. It is set-apart, it is set-apart to you.

Exo 30:33  ‘Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, shall be cut off from his people.’

Exo 30:34  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Take sweet spices, fragrant gum and cinnamon and galbanam, and clear frankincense with these sweet spices, all in equal amounts.

Exo 30:35  “Then you shall make of these an incense, a compound, work of a perfumer, salted, clean, set-apart.

Exo 30:36  “And you shall beat (דּקק or pulverize) some of it very fine, and put some of it before the Witness in the Tent of Appointment where I meet with you, it is most set-apart to you.

Exo 30:37  “And the incense which you make, do not make any for yourselves, according to its composition, it is set-apart to you for יהוה

Exo 30:38  “Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.”

All the elements placed on the altar were first subject to a rigorous transformation process.

‘’Cinnamon - The cut stems are processed by scraping off the outer bark, then beating the branch evenly with a hammer to loosen the inner bark, which is then pried off in long rolls.’’

‘’Frankincense –the stem of the tree is struck through the bark and into the sapwood, the tree secretes a resin. Myrrh gum, like frankincense, is such a resin. Myrrh is harvested by repeatedly wounding the trees to bleed the gum, which is waxy and coagulates quickly.’’

‘’Galbanam, -The stem contains resin ducts that carry a milky oleoresin. Incisions are made at the base of the stalk from which the gum runs and hardens in the shape of brown tears. The tears are then steam-distilled to produce an essential oil which is clear in colour.’’

‘’Black storax resin is a rare and precious incense that was popular in ancient times especially among Egyptians and Phoenicians. It is obtained from the Liquidambar Orientalis , when struck, the tree’s trunk produces a sap which is mixed with finely chopped bark.’’

Restoration of the Priesthood:

The end time restoration of all things begins with the restoration of Torah – there is no restoration of Torah unless there is a restoration of the altar. There is no restoration of the altar unless there is a restoration of the Levitical priesthood and those from the nations called to be part of the Levitical priesthood – Is 66:21-  It was Aaron’s rod that is in the ark of the covenant alongside the Torah and jar of manna, which proved he was given the priesthood by YHVH – forever - Numbers 16&17.

Mal 2:1  “And now, O priests,(Heb – Kohanim) this command is for you. Mal 2:2  “If you do not hear, and if you do not take it to heart, to give esteem to My Name,” said יהוה of hosts, “I shall send a curse upon you, and I shall curse your blessings. And indeed, I have cursed them, because you do not take it to heart. Mal 2:3  “See, I shall rebuke your seed, and scatter dung before your faces, the dung of your festivals. And you shall be taken away with it.

Mal 2:4  “And you shall know that I have sent this command to you, as being My covenant with Lĕwi,” said יהוה of hosts. Mal 2:5  “My covenant with him was life and peace, and I gave them to him, to fear. And he feared Me, and stood in awe of My Name. Mal 2:6  “The Torah of truth1 was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and straightness, and turned many away from crookedness. Footnote: 1Neh. 9:13.

Mal 2:7  “For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and they seek the Torah from his mouth, for he is the messenger of יהוה of hosts. Mal 2:8  “But you, you have turned from the way, you have caused many to stumble in the Torah. You have corrupted the covenant of Lĕwi,” said יהוה of hosts. Mal 2:9  “And I also, I shall make you despised and low before all the people, because you are not guarding My ways, and are showing partiality in the Torah.”

It is at our devotional altar we find the good pleasing and perfect will of YHVH - Rom 12:1  I call upon you, therefore, brothers, through the compassion of Elohim, to present your bodies a living offering – set-apart, well-pleasing to Elohim – your reasonable worship. Rom 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

Psa 84:1  How lovely are Your dwelling places, O יהוה of hosts! Psa 84:2  My being has longed, and even fainted, For the courts of יהוה; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living Ěl. Psa 84:3  Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she has put her young ones – Your slaughter-places,(altars) O יהוה of hosts, My Sovereign and my Elohim. (David found his comfort and a home at YHVH’s altar)

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Parashat 20 - ‘’Tezaveh’’- Portion 72 Shem/Ex 29:1-49 Yesh 61:7- 62:5 Heb 2:10-18

וזה הדבר – ‘’this is the issue…’’ and without this issue (Heb ‘’davar’’) the Tabernacle doesn’t work.

Exo 29:1  “And this is the task (thing or word) you shall do to them to set them apart to serve Me as priests: Take one young bull and two rams, perfect ones, (Lev 9)

Exo 29:2  and unleavened bread,(‘’lechem’’) and unleavened cakes (‘’challah’’) mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers(‘’rakik’’) anointed with oil – make these of wheat flour.

Exo 29:3  “And you shall put them in one basket and bring them in the basket, along with the bull and the two rams.

These instructions were meant for the priesthood. YHVH required absolute obedience to the finest detail of His instructions – why? It was critical that the priesthood would hear (shemah) and obey, so, setting the example for the nation of Israel to walk in obedience to YHVH’s instructions. These instructions to the priests also give us valuable insight into the kind of dwelling space YHVH desires to occupy. All these instructions will one day be carefully observed and obeyed, when YHVH makes His permanent dwelling with man in a new heaven and a new earth.

Exo 29:4  “Then you shall bring Aharon and his sons to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and wash them with water.

Exo 29:5  “And you shall take the garments, and shall put on Aharon the long shirt,(ketonet) and the robe(meyil) of the shoulder garment,(ephod) and the shoulder garment, and the breastplate,(choshen) and shall gird him with the embroidered band(cheshev) of the shoulder garment,

Exo 29:6  and shall put the turban(mitznefet) on his head, and shall put the set-apart sign of dedication (Heb -‘’nezer’’ – same origin as ‘’Nazarene’’ Mat 2:23 נצרי)on the turban,

Exo 29:7  and shall take the anointing oil, and pour it on his head and anoint (משׁח) him.

Exo 29:8  “Then you shall bring his sons and put long shirts(ketunot) on them,

Exo 29:9  and shall gird them with girdles (avnet)– Aharon and his sons – and put the turbans (migbâ‛âh) on them. And the priesthood shall be theirs for an everlasting law. So, you shall ordain (fill the hands) Aharon and his sons.

Those vestments which were common to all priests, were:

Michnasayim (breeches)—linen pants reaching from the waist to the knees "to cover their nakedness" (Exodus 28:42)

Ketonet (tunic)—made of pure linen, covering the entire body from the neck to the feet, with sleeves reaching to the wrists. That of the High Priest was embroidered (Exodus 28:39); those of the priests were plain (Exodus 28:40).

Avnet (sash)—that of the High Priest was of fine linen with "embroidered work" in blue and purple and scarlet (Exodus 28:39, 39:29); those worn by the priests were of white, twined linen.

Mitznefet (turban)—that of the High Priest was much larger than that of the priests and wound so that it formed a broad, flat-topped turban; that for priests was wound so that it formed a cone-shaped turban, called a migbahat. The tzitz, a golden plate inscribed with the words: "Set Apart unto YHVH" was attached to the mitznefet.

The vestments that were unique to the High Priest were:

Me'il ("Robe of the Ephod")—a sleeveless, purple robe, the lower hem of which was fringed with small golden bells alternating with pomegranate-shaped tassels in blue, purple, and scarlet – tekhelet.

Ephod—a richly embroidered vest or apron with two onyx-stones on the shoulders, on which were engraved the names of the tribes of Israel – see BDB robe of approach- bondservant.

Choshen (Breastplate)—with twelve gems, each engraved with the name of one of the tribes; a pouch in which he probably carried the Urim and Thummim. It was fastened to the Ephod  (gematria 358)

Tzitz (crown)—a gold plate inscribed with the words "Set Apart  unto YHWH" which was attached to the front of the Mitznefet, so that it rested on his forehead. Vs 9….. So, you shall ordain Aharon and his sons.

The Hebrew words for ordination are ‘’le maleh yadahim’’ or ‘’filling of the hands’’. The offerings described as the ‘’ordination offerings’’ are referred to as the ‘’miluim’’ or filling offering’’ What does it mean ‘’to fill the hands’’? One possible explanation would be found in the expression ‘’idle minds and idle hands are the devil’s workshop’’ Levites were required to have learned to work with their hands, they were also required to teach the Torah while performing their priestly duties.

Exo 29:10  “And you shall bring near the bull before the Tent of Meeting, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the bull. (usually a bull for sins of priests, rams for sins of people)

Exo 29:11  “And you shall slaughter the bull before יהוה, by the door of the Tent of Meeting,

Exo 29:12  and take some of the blood of the bull and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour all the blood beside the base of the altar.

Exo 29:13  “And you shall take all the fat that covers the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and burn them on the altar.

Exo 29:14  “But the flesh of the bull, and its skin and its dung, you shall burn with fire outside the camp. It is a sin offering. (we see later that vs 14 is connected to Parashat 39 ‘’Chukat’’– Num 19:1-22:1)

The sages say that the commandment of the Red Heifer (‘’para aduma’’ – Parashat 39) is “beyond human understanding” The “chukat” or “statutes” of this portion begin to make sense when we view them in the light of  Messianic redemption. These “chukat” unravel some of the deepest mysteries of our Messiah’s deep love and desire to be united with his bride. The meaning of the word “chukat” comes from the Hebrew verb “chukak” and means to cut upon, engrave or inscribe. These are instructions we obey even if we don’t understand them. In modern Hebrew a “chukah” is a constitution. “The phrase in B’Midbar 19:2 “zot chuckat ha torah” this is the chukat of the Torah” appears only twice in the Torah (see also 31:21) This could be interpreted to mean “ this is the whole essence of the Torah”

Even though there is no temple we still have access to an altar – (Ps 84:3 in Hebrew - מזבחותיך)

Heb 13:10  We have a slaughter-place (יש־לנו מזבח)from which those serving the Tent(המשכן) have no authority to eat. Heb 13:11  For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the Set-apart Place by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Heb 13:12  And so יהושע also suffered outside the gate, to set apart the people with His own blood. Heb 13:13  Let us, then, go to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach. (‘’red heifer offering’’)

Exo 29:15  “And take one ram, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram,

Exo 29:16  and you shall slaughter the ram, and you shall take its blood and sprinkle it all around on the altar.

Exo 29:17  “And cut the ram in pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and place them upon its pieces and on its head.

Exo 29:18  “And you shall burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to יהוה, it is a sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to יהוה.

Exo 29:19  “And you shall take the second ram, and Aharon and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram,

Exo 29:20  and you shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aharon and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot,(to ‘’shemah’’ or hear, ‘’asah’’ or do and walk – ‘’halachah’’- the Torah) and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar.

Exo 29:21  “And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aharon and on his garments, on his sons and on the garments of his sons with him. And he and his garments shall be set-apart, and his sons and the garments of his sons with him.

Exo 29:22  “And you shall take the fat of the ram, and the fat tail, and the fat that covers the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat on them, and the right thigh – it is for a ram of ordination

Exo 29:23  and one loaf of bread, and one cake made with oil, and one thin cake from the basket of the unleavened bread that is before יהוה.

Exo 29:24  “And you shall put all these in the hands of Aharon and in the hands of his sons, and you shall wave them – a wave offering before יהוה.

Exo 29:25  “Then you shall take them from their hands and burn them on the altar as a burnt offering, as a sweet fragrance before יהוה. It is an offering made by fire to יהוה.

Exo 29:26  “And you shall take the breast of the ram of Aharon’s ordination (ha miluim) and wave it – a wave offering before יהוה, and it shall be your portion.

Exo 29:27  “And from the ram of ordination you shall set apart the breast of the wave offering which is waved, and the thigh of the contribution which is raised, of that which is for Aharon and of that which is for his sons.

Exo 29:28  “And it shall be from the children of Yisra’ĕl for Aharon and his sons by a law forever, for it is a contribution. And it is a contribution from the children of Yisra’ĕl from their peace offerings – their contribution to יהוה.

Exo 29:29  “And the set-apart garments of Aharon are for his sons after him, to be anointed in them and to be ordained in them.

Exo 29:30  “The priest from his sons in his place, puts them on for seven days, when he enters the Tent of Meeting to attend in the set-apart place.

This seven-day ‘’dedication’’ period was the pattern in the scriptures used for the dedication of the altar and priesthood in Israel. Fire from Heaven consumed this offering on the 8th day.

2Ch 7:1  And when Shelomoh had ended praying, fire came down from the heavens and consumed the ascending offering and the slaughterings. And the esteem of יהוה filled the House. 2Ch 7:2  And the priests were unable to enter the House of יהוה, because the esteem of יהוה had filled the House of יהוה. 2Ch 7:3  And all the children of Yisra’ěl saw how the fire came down, and the esteem of יהוה on the House, and they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and did obeisance and gave thanks to יהוה, saying, “For He is good, for His loving-commitment is everlasting.”

The Dedication of the Temple

2Ch 7:4  And the sovereign and all the people slaughtered slaughterings before יהוה. 2Ch 7:5  And Sovereign Shelomoh slaughtered a slaughtering of twenty-two thousand bulls and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. Thus the sovereign and all the people dedicated the House of Elohim. 2Ch 7:6  And the priests were standing over their duties, and the Lěwites with instruments of the song to יהוה, which Sovereign Dawiḏ had made to give thanks to יהוה, saying, “For His loving-commitment is everlasting,” whenever Dawiḏ praised by their hand. And the priests were blowing trumpets before them, and all Yisra’ěl were standing. 2Ch 7:7  And Shelomoh set apart the middle of the courtyard that was in front of the House of יהוה, for there he made ascending offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze slaughter-place which Shelomoh had made was not able to contain the ascending offerings and the grain offerings and the fat. 2Ch 7:8  And Shelomoh at that time observed the Festival seven days, and all Yisra’ěl with him, a very great assembly from the entrance of Ḥamath to the wadi of Mitsrayim.

2Ch 7:9  And on the eighth day they held an assembly, for they performed the dedication of the slaughter-place seven days, and the festival seven days. 2 Pet 3:102Ch 7:10  And on the twenty-third day of the seventh new moon he sent the people away to their tents, rejoicing and glad of heart for the goodness that יהוה had done for Dawiḏ, and for Shelomoh, and for His people Yisra’ěl.

Lev 9:23  And Mosheh and Aharon went into the Tent of Appointment, and came out and blessed the people. And the esteem of יהוה appeared to all the people, Lev 9:24  and fire came out from before יהוה and consumed the ascending offering and the fat on the slaughter-place. And all the people saw and cried aloud and fell on their faces.

Exo 29:31  “And take the ram of ordination and cook its flesh in a set-apart place.

Exo 29:32  “And Aharon and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, by the door of the Tent of Meeting, Exo 29:33  and they shall eat those offerings with which the atonement was made, to ordain them, to set them apart. But let a stranger not eat them, because they are set-apart.

Exo 29:34  “And if any of the flesh of the ordination (ha milium)offerings, or of the bread, be left over until the morning, then you shall burn up what is left over. It is not eaten, because it is set-apart.

Exo 29:35  “And so you shall do to Aharon and his sons, according to all I have commanded you. Seven days you shall ordain them,

‘’Consecration of Aaron and his Sons through the anointing of their persons and the offering of sacrifices, the directions for which form the subject of vv. 1-35 can be more fully understood in connection with the sacrificial laws contained in Lev 1-9.’’

Exo 29:36  and prepare a bull each day as a sin offering for atonement. And you shall cleanse the altar when you make atonement for it, and you shall anoint it to set it apart.

Exo 29:37  “For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar, and set it apart. And the altar shall be most set-apart – whatever touches the altar is to be set-apart.

Exo 29:38  “And this is what you prepare on the altar: two lambs, a year old, daily, continually.

Exo 29:39  “Prepare the one lamb in the morning, and the other lamb you prepare between the evenings,

Exo 29:40  and one-tenth of an ĕphah of flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of pressed oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering, with the one lamb.

Exo 29:41  “And prepare the other lamb between the evenings. And with it prepare the grain offering and the drink offering, as in the morning, for a sweet fragrance, an offering made by fire to יהוה

Exo 29:42  a continual burnt offering for your generations at the door of the Tent of Meeting before יהוה, where I shall meet with you to speak with you.

Exo 29:43  “And there I shall meet with the children of Yisra’ĕl, and it shall be set apart by My esteem.

Exo 29:44  “And I shall set apart the Tent of Meeting and the altar. And Aharon and his sons I set apart to serve as priests to Me.

Exo 29:45  “And I shall dwell in the midst of the children of Yisra’ĕl and shall be their Elohim.

Exo 29:46  “And they shall know that I am יהוה their Elohim, who brought them up out of the land of Mitsrayim, to dwell in their midst. I am יהוה their Elohim.

Until we physically stand in YHVH’s Presence, His Set Apart Spirit will seek a dwelling place in the hearts of His people. The instruction of the Tabernacle teaches us that YHVH will only enter a dwelling place that meets His requirements. YHVH’s Spirit may visit us from time to time, however, YHVH does not only want to ‘’visit’’ us He wants to indwell us- 1Co 3:16  Do you not know that you are a Dwelling Place of Elohim and that the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you? (Gk – making a home in you) His ‘’indwelling’’ us also depends on an ‘’intercessory priesthood’’ After all He is the same yesterday today and forever - Mal 3:6  “For I am יהוה, I shall not change,[a] and you, O sons of Ya‛aqoḇ, shall not come to an end. Footnote: a Jas_1:17. To this end YHVH has appointed men to instruct us in these matters-  Eph 4:11  And He Himself gave some as emissaries, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as shepherds and teachers Eph 4:12  for the perfecting of the set-apart ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah….Sadly, today, very few of these men are equipped or willing to return to the ancient paths (Torah)– Jer 6:16 – and most of these men consider the teachings of the Torah ‘’strange’’ – Hosea 8:12.

In our days there are no ‘’sacrifices’’ because there is no Temple, however, if we look at Ezekiel 40-48 we see a future millennial temple; the presence of Messiah partaking in a restored temple service – Ezek 46 and teaching the Torah to all nations – Is 2:2-4

Finally at the end of the millennium YHVH will ‘’tabernacle’’ and physically dwell with His people.

Rev 21:3  And I heard a loud voice from the heaven saying, “See, the Booth(Heb ‘’mishkan’’ or Tabernacle) of Elohim is with men, and He shall dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and Elohim Himself shall be with them and be their Elohim. Rev 22:14  “Blessed are those doing His commands,(Torah) so that the authority shall be theirs unto the tree of life, and to enter through the gates into the city.

Rev 22:20  He that bears witness of these matters says, “Yes, I am coming speedily.” Aměn. Yes, come, Master יהושע! Rev 22:21  The favour of our Master יהושע Messiah be with the set-apart ones. Aměn.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
