Parashat 14 - VaErah – “I appeared”

Shemot/ Exodus 6:2 – 9:35

We all love the scripture that says “ And my Elohim shall fill all your need according to His riches in esteem by Messiah יהושע” (Phil 4:19).
However what happens when YHVH does not fill your need according to the way you believe He should?  Moshe has become disillusioned about YHVH’s apparent delayed deliverance.
In a sense it is easy to know YHVH as “El Shaddai” the “All Sufficient One” the One who meets my every need as soon as possible. However what happens when YHVH’s provision does not seem to come on time? What happens if His provision seems to be delayed? What will happen if we don’t see it in our lifetime?
His name YHVH seems to be associated with not always been able to understand His ways. We know that if we don’t understand now, we will understand some time later, the essence of His Name is that He will cause to exist whatever is needed for our deliverance and inheritance.
Even our Messiah cried out in the darkest moment of his life “My El, my El why have you forsaken me” Mat 24:46.

Why would YHVH seem so hard to find in the hour of our deepest need?  It was through this act of Yahshua offering himself up for us that YHVH caused to exist a way for mankind to be saved and delivered. Are we willing to offer up ourselves to Him so that His will, purpose and our ultimate destiny may be achieved?

Mene mene tekel upharsin (Will we be found wanting?)

In these days I believe the Ruach of YHVH is preparing a people that will know that they will know that they will know that He and He alone is the One who brings about our deliverance.
Exo 20:2  “I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of slavery.
Sadly many believers today have created “idols” of various “deliverance models” and bowed down to them to give them way more attention than what they deserve. Today many “scholars” and “experts” can tell us exactly what is going to happen regarding our end time deliverance from this world system. There are few believers who even consider the pattern and model given to us in the Torah.
Today many believers say “Jesus is our deliverer” he will come and deliver us and leave behind the Jews and backslidden Christians. These according to them will have to go through the great tribulation to learn to believe as they did. What an arrogant demonic deception this is. Many will soon be rudely awakened to the fact that there is no rapture to come and save them. They WILL go through the coming tribulation.
Yahshua only comes as our deliverer when YHVH sends him. Yahshua does not even know the exact time of our deliverance.
Mat 24:36  “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only.1 Footnote:1Mk. 13:32.

Let us also remind ourselves that the power and authority given to Yahshua to bring our final redemption BELONGS TO YHVH AND TO HIM ALONE.
Recently I heard a “respected” teacher in the church declare that YHVH was semi-retired and taking a nap because He had left the running of the universe and the bringing about His final plan of redemption in the hands of His son “Jesus.”
Once again what diabolical blasphemy this is. It would serve us well to consider that the last terrible plague that broke the back of our “Egyptian slavery” was the death of the first born. We are told this happened because the Egyptians worshipped the first born son. Has the church not done the same thing? Will the church not face a similar judgment?
We will all soon discover how YHVH and YHVH alone can bring about our deliverance. He has chosen as His Name reveals, the One whose hands were pierced to bring about our great and final deliverance – Yahshua Ha Mashiach. (The name of YHVH is spelled “yud, hey, vav, hey” the “yud” is a symbol of the hand and the “vav” is a symbol of a nail. The “hey” is a symbol of revelation and appears twice pointing to the fact that Messiah will be revealed to the world, twice to bring about mankind’s deliverance)

During this time when we get to know Elohim as YHVH we are going to hear and receive many other important truths and revelations that we have not received previously.

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.
Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Aliyah Rishon 6:2-13

To understand better the opening verses of this week’s parashah we need to look at the closing verses of last week’s parashah.
Shemot/Exo 5:22  And Mosheh returned to יהוה and said, “יהוה, why have You done evil to this people? Why did You send me?
Exo 5:23  “For ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your Name, he has done evil to this people. And You have not delivered Your people at all.”
In the last days these words may once again be heard by a people desperately seeking deliverance from an evil world system – “why have you allowed this evil to come upon us?

Moshe is distressed about what is happening. Instead of matters getting better they are getting worse. YHVH now speaks to this crisis as He will speak to a far worse crisis that will come to pass in the last days.

Shemot/Exo 6:2  And Elohim spoke to Mosheh and said to him, “I am יהוה.
Exo 6:3  “And I appeared to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya’aqoḇ, as Ěl Shaddai. And by My Name, יהוה, was I not known to them?
Exo 6:4  “And I also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Kena’an, the land of their sojournings, in which they have sojourned.
Exo 6:5  “And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Yisra’ĕl whom the Mitsrites are enslaving, and I have remembered My covenant.  (See introductory comments)

The following verses form the foundation of the “Pesach Seder” the Passover meal:

Shemot/Exo 6:6  “Say, therefore, to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘I am יהוה, and I shall bring you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites, and shall deliver you from their enslaving, and shall redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments,
Exo 6:7  and shall take you as My people, and I shall be your Elohim. And you shall know that I am יהוה your Elohim who is bringing you out from under the burdens of the Mitsrites.
Exo 6:8  ‘And I shall bring you into the land which I swore to give to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya’aqoḇ, to give it to you as an inheritance. I am יהוה.’ ”

1. In this covenant we know that YHVH is “bringing us out” This Hebrew verb is imperfect and reminds us that this deliverance from Egypt is not yet over.
2. In this covenant we know “His deliverance” from their enslaving.  The Hebrew verb “natsal” (also imperfect) can mean “to snatch away or rescue” from their enslaving.
3. In this covenant YHVH “takes” us as His people and we get to “know” Him as our Elohim (the powerful Mighty One).
4. In this covenant we anticipate our return to the land of Yisrael – our inheritance.
Exo 6:9  And Mosheh spoke thus to the children of Yisra’ĕl, but they did not listen to Mosheh, because of shortness of spirit, and from hard slavery.

The Hebrew says “ve lo shamu” or “they did not listen” because of anguish and the harshness of being enslaved.
The sages comment that it was this not being able to hear that caused that generation not to enter into the land. Will it not be the same in our day?

Exo 6:10  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 6:11  “Go in, speak to Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim, to let the children of Yisra’ĕl go out of his land.”
Exo 6:12  And Mosheh spoke before יהוה, saying, “The children of Yisra’ĕl have not listened to me, and why would Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?”
Exo 6:13  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, and gave them a command for the children of Yisra’ĕl and for Pharaoh, sovereign of Mitsrayim, to bring the children of Yisra’ĕl out of the land of Mitsrayim.

Aliyah Sheni 6:14-28

In the Haftarah we have a similar pattern as to the one presented here in the Torah. First there is a gathering together of Yisrael before YHVH brings judgment on Mitsrayim/Egypt.

Eze 28:25  ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “When I have gathered the house of Yisra’ĕl from the peoples among whom they are scattered, I shall be set-apart in them before the eyes of the gentiles. And they shall dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Ya’aqoḇ.
Eze 28:26  “And they shall dwell safely, and build houses, and plant vineyards, and dwell safely, when I execute judgments on all those around them who despise them. And they shall know that I am יהוה their Elohim.” ’

Will this pattern of first identifying Yisrael repeat itself again before the final exodus and judgment in the last days?
Exo 6:14  These are the heads of their fathers’ houses: The sons of Re’uḇĕn, the first-born of Yisra’ĕl: Ḥanoḵ and Pallu, Ḥetsron and Karmi. These are the clans of Re’uḇĕn.
Exo 6:15  And the sons of Shimʽon: Yemu’ĕl, and Yamin, and Ohaḏ, and Yaḵin, and Tsoḥar, and Sha’ul the son of a Ken’anite woman. These are the clans of Shim’on.
Exo 6:16  These are the names of the sons of Lĕwi according to their generations: Gĕreshon, and Qehath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Lĕwi were one hundred and thirty-seven.
Exo 6:17  The sons of Gĕreshon: Liḇni and Shim’i according to their clans.
Exo 6:18  And the sons of Qehath: Amram, and Yitshar, and Ḥeḇron, and Uzzi’ĕl. And the years of the life of Qehath were one hundred and thirty-three.
Exo 6:19  And the sons of Merari: Maḥli and Mushi. These are the clans of Lĕwi according to their generations.
Exo 6:20  And Amram took for himself Yoḵeḇeḏ, his father’s sister, as wife. And she bore him Aharon and Mosheh. And the years of the life of Amram were one hundred and thirty-seven.

Note there is some controversy over the issue of Yochebed/Jokebed.

One of the views: “Why did G-d agree that a great man such as Moses should be the product of a marriage which is destined to be forbidden? (After the giving of the Torah, marriage with one's aunt is regarded as incestuous). Because no man is appointed as an authority over the community unless there is something objectionable in his past, lest he lord over the community. (As was the case with King David, who was descendant from the legally questionable marriage of Boaz and Ruth)” – Chizkuni.

Another view: Clarke's Commentary on the Bible

His father's sister - דדתו dodatho. The true meaning of this word is uncertain. Parkhurst observes that דוד dod signifies an uncle in i Sam 10:14; Lev 10:4, and frequently elsewhere. It signifies also an uncle's son, a cousin-german: compare Jer 32:8 with Exodus 6:12, where the Vulgate renders דדי dodi by patruelis mei, my paternal cousin; and in  Amos 6:10, for דודו dodo, the Targum has קריביה karibiah, his near relation. So the Vulgate, propinquus ejus, his relative, and the Septuagint, οἱ οικειοι αυτων, those of their household. The best critics suppose that Jochebed was the cousin-german of Amram, and not his aunt. See Clarke's note on  Exodus 2:1.– (A cousin- german is the child of one's aunt or uncle; a first cousin)

Shemot/Exo 6:21  And the sons of Yitshar: Qoraḥ, and Nepheḡ, and Ziḵri.
Exo 6:22  And the sons of Uzzi’ĕl: Misha’ĕl, and Eltsaphan, and Sithri.
Exo 6:23  Aharon took to himself Elisheḇa, daughter of Amminaḏaḇ, sister of Naḥshon, as wife. And she bore him Naḏaḇ, and Aḇihu, El’azar, and Ithamar.
Exo 6:24  And the sons of Qoraḥ: Assir, Elqanah, and Aḇiyasaph. These are the clans of the Qorḥites.
Exo 6:25  And El’azar, Aharon’s son, took for himself one of the daughters of Puti’ĕl as wife. And she bore him Pineḥas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Lĕwites according to their clans.
Exo 6:26  This is Aharon, and Mosheh, to whom יהוה said, “Bring out the children of Yisra’ĕl from the land of Mitsrayim according to their divisions.”
Exo 6:27  They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim, to bring out the children of Yisra’ĕl from Mitsrayim. This is Mosheh, and Aharon.
Exo 6:28  And it came to be, on the day when יהוה spoke to Mosheh in the land of Mitsrayim,

Aliyah Shlishi 6:29-7:7

Exo 6:29  that יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, “I am יהוה. Speak to Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim all that I say to you.”
Exo 6:30  And Mosheh said before יהוה, “See, I am of uncircumcised lips, and why would Pharaoh listen to me?”
Listen to the words of our Messiah. The true word of YHVH that comes from circumcised lips.
Yochanan/Joh 5:19  Therefore יהושע responded and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is able to do none at all by Himself, but only that which He sees the Father doing, because whatever He does, the Son also likewise does.
Yoch/Joh 5:30  “Of Myself I am unable to do any matter. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own desire, but the desire of the Father who sent Me.
Yoch/Joh 12:49  “Because I spoke not from Myself, but the Father who sent Me has given Me a command,1 what I should say and what I should speak. Footnote: 1See 7:16.
Yoch/Joh 7:16  יהושע answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.1 Footnote: 1Deut. 18:15-20.
Shemot/Exo 7:1  So יהוה said to Mosheh, “See, I have made you an elohim1 to Pharaoh, and Aharon your brother is your prophet. Footnote: 1Or mighty one – see footnote at 4:16.
Exo 7:2  “You shall speak all that I command you, and Aharon your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, to let the children of Yisra’ĕl go out of his land.
Exo 7:3  “But I am going to harden the heart of Pharaoh, and shall increase My signs and My wonders in the land of Mitsrayim.
Exo 7:4  “And Pharaoh is not going to listen to you, and I shall lay My hand on Mitsrayim, and bring My divisions and My people, the children of Yisra’ĕl, out of the land of Mitsrayim by great judgments.
Exo 7:5  “And the Mitsrites shall know that I am יהוה, when I stretch out My hand on Mitsrayim. And I shall bring the children of Yisra’ĕl out from among them.”
Exo 7:6  And Mosheh and Aharon did as יהוה commanded them, so they did.
Exo 7:7  Now Mosheh was eighty years old and Aharon eighty-three years old when they spoke to Pharaoh.

Aliyah Reviee 7:8-8:10

Shemot/Exo 7:8  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying,
Exo 7:9  “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aharon, ‘Take your rod and throw it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ”
Exo 7:10  So Mosheh and Aharon went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as יהוה commanded. And Aharon threw his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
Exo 7:11  But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the practisers of witchcraft. And they, the magicians of Mitsrayim, also did so with their magic.
Exo 7:12  And they, each one, threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But the rod of Aharon swallowed up their rods.

When Moshe threw his rod on the ground it became a serpent – Hebrew “Nachash”.  The gematria for Nachash and Moshiach is both 358. It is possible that YHVH was pointing to the work of Messiah on the execution stake (rod) to cancel out the works of the devil.

Yochanan aleph/1 Jn 3:8   For this purpose the Son of Elohim was manifested: to destroy the works of the devil.
The magicians repeat the miracle but they change their rods into crocodiles – Hebrew word “tannin” (large reptile). This speaks of trying to give the serpent much more power and credit than he deserves. It is sad to see how many believers give the devil so much credit and exaggerate his powers to frighten or impress people.
It is this very same deception that has brought the masses of humanity under the most unthinkable bondage imaginable.

Note now the pattern of the plagues: There are three sets of three plagues which follow a pattern of the first set was announced at the river, the second set at Pharoah’s house and the third set was unannounced. Then the final plague was the death of the first born.

Summary of plagues and the gods they represented:
1 – Nile to Blood Osiris, the Nile god
2 – Frogs Heqt, deity with a frog’s head
3 – Dust to Lice Chemi, god (elohim =false mighty one) of the soil
4 – Swarms (any not judged in the other 9)
5 – Animal Disease Hather, form of a cow & Apis in the form of a bull
6 – Boils Imhotep, god of healing
7 – Hail & Fire Isis, the sky goddess &
Seth, the protector of crops
8 – Locusts (symbol of religious joy)
9 – Darkness Ra, the sun god
10 – Death Anubis, the god of death
