Parashat 31 Portion 104 ‘’Emor’’ Lev 24:1-25:13 Jer 11:16-12:2 + 15:15-16

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, You have set us apart by Your commandments and have commanded us to actively study Your Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May You open our eyes to see marvellous truths from Your Torah. Thank You for calling us who were once gentiles excluded from the citizenship of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise having no expectation and without Elohim- but now through the blood of Messiah we have gained access into the covenants and have obtained citizenship into the commonwealth of Israel.  Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

The appointments or ‘’moedim’’ reveal the journey of restoration we are called to embrace to enter His Kingdom and into His Presence.

This week’s Torah portion may well reveal the price we are called to pay to make this journey possible – for ourselves and for others.

שׁמן זית – 0live oil

The Lamps

Lev 24:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 24:2  "Command the children of Yisra’ěl that they bring to you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.

“shemen zait zach kativ” means crushed pure olive oil.

An olive tree never dies. Neither does it ever cease giving fruit. When some branches become old and stop giving fruit, they are cut off so that new shoots can come up that will give fruit. The olive tree needs approximately 10 years to begin giving fruit, but the most fruitful time does not begin until 40 years have passed. The leaves are always green. It does not need a lot of water and can manage well in a warm and dry climate. The olives have three important ingredients, oil, water, and alpechin. Olive oil is very healthy for the body – heart health, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and other benefits.  It is used for anointing and giving light to YHVH’s servants in the Tabernacle.

“Kativ” means pounded or crushed. Typically, the olives were crushed in three crushings – the first crushing produced the purest oil used for the lamps that provided light for the menorah.

Isa 53:5  But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our crookednesses. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

Yahshua was declared to be the light of the world - Joh 8:12 Therefore יהושע spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness but possess the light of life.”1 Footnote: 1 See 11:9-10.

Following Yashua faithfully means that our lives will experience crushing and sorrow. We will also experience deep joy and peace. However, to be a ‘’light’ comes at a cost.  Believers are called upon to be the light of the world – Matt 5:14

Gethsemane- Hebrew: גת שמנים‎‎, Gat Shmanim; lit. "oil press"

Gal 2:20  “I have been impaled(crushed) with Messiah, and I no longer live, but Messiah lives in me.[b] And that which I now live in the flesh I live by belief in the Son of Elohim, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Lev 24:2  "Command the children of Yisra’ěl that they bring to you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.

Lev 24:3  “Outside the veil of the Witness, in the Tent of Appointment, Aharon (light bringer) is to arrange it from evening until morning before יהוה continually – a law forever throughout your generations.

Lev 24:4  “He is to arrange the lamps on the clean gold lampstand before יהוה continually.

Lev 24:5  “And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it, two-tenths of an ěphah in each cake. (Heb ‘’challah’’ or pierced bread – Is 53:5 he was wounded (chalal) for our transgressions…)

Lev 24:6  “And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the clean table before יהוה

Lev 24:7  “And you shall put clear frankincense on each row, and it shall be on the bread as a remembrance portion, an offering made by fire to יהוה

Lev 24:8  “On every Sabbath he is to arrange it before יהוה continually, from the children of Yisra’ěl – an everlasting covenant.

Lev 24:9  “And it shall be for Aharon (Light bringer)and his sons, and they shall eat it in the set-apart place, because it is most set-apart to him from the offerings of יהוה made by fire – an everlasting law.”

So far, our Torah portion gives us a glimpse into the life of those who are called to follow Messiah. It is in the breaking of the bread- having intimate fellowship with Messiah and with fellow disciples that enables us to walk in His footsteps in paying the price to be a light unto the world. We cannot complete our mission on earth without the continual fellowship with Messiah and his set apart ones with the knowledge that we are intimately connected to him and one another in our journey - Mat 11:28  "Come to Me, all you (pl)who labour and are burdened, and I shall give you rest. Mat 11:29  “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you shall find rest for your beings.[d] Footnote: d Jer_6:16. Mat 11:30  “For My yoke is gentle and My burden is light.”

Rom 8:35  Who shall separate us from the love of the Messiah? Shall pressure, or distress, or persecution, or scarcity of food, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

Rom 8:36  As it has been written, “For Your sake we are killed all day long, we are reckoned as sheep of slaughter.” Psa_44:22

Rom 8:37  But in all this we are more than overcomers through Him who loved us.

Rom 8:38  For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor messengers nor principalities nor powers, neither the present nor the future,

Rom 8:39  nor height nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of Elohim which is in Messiah יהושע our Master.

2Co 4:16  Therefore we do not lose heart, but even if our outward man is perishing, the inward man is being renewed day by day.

2Co 4:17  For this slight momentary pressure is working for us a far more exceeding and everlasting weight of esteem.

2Co 4:18  We are not looking on what is seen, but on what is not seen. For what is seen passes away, but what is not seen is everlasting.[c] Footnote: cSee 2Co_5:7, Rom_8:24, Heb_11:1 and Heb_11:13

The whole goal of the Torah is to reveal the Messiah in us and to the world - Rom 10:4  For Messiah is the goal of the ‘Torah unto righteousness’ to everyone who believes.

Punishment for Blasphemy

Lev 24:10  And the son of an Yisra’ěli woman, whose father was a Mitsrian man, went out among the children of Yisra’ěl. And the Yisra’ěli woman’s son and a man of Yisra’ěl strove in the camp.

Lev 24:11  And the Yisra’ěli woman’s son blasphemed (‘’nakav’’ or pierced) the Name, and cursed. (Heb ‘’kalal’’ making light of) So they brought him to Mosheh. Now his mother’s name was Shelomith (complete) the daughter of Diri,(my word) of the tribe of Dan. (judgment)  (My Word will bring  completeness or My Word it will bring judgment)

Lev 24:12  And they put him under guard, that it might be declared to them at the mouth of יהוה

Lev 24:13  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 24:14  “Bring the one who has cursed (Heb ‘’kalal’’) outside the camp, and all those who heard him shall lay their hands on his head, and all the congregation shall stone him.

Lev 24:15  “And speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘Anyone who curses (Kalal) his Elohim shall bear his sin.

Lev 24:16  ‘And he who blasphemes (Heb ‘’nakav’’ or pierce) the Name of יהוה shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. When he blasphemes (nakav) the Name, he is put to death.

The rabbis have difficulty in finding a common theme in this Torah portion. Perhaps there is a clue in the Hebrew use of the word ‘’blasphemy’’ or ‘’piercing’’. (used only once in this context in the Torah)

We ‘’pierced’’ His Son and He is not going to retaliate.

An Eye for an Eye

Lev 24:17  ‘And a man who strikes the being of any man shall certainly be put to death.

Lev 24:18  ‘And he who strikes a beast repays it, body for body.

Lev 24:19  ‘And when a man inflicts a blemish upon his neighbour, as he has done so it is done to him:

Lev 24:20  ‘Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he inflicts a blemish upon him, so it is done to him.

Lev 24:21  ‘And he who strikes a beast repays it, and he who strikes a man to death is put to death.

Lev 24:22  ‘You are to have one right-ruling, for the stranger and for the native, for I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ”

Lev 24:23  And Mosheh spoke to the children of Yisra’ěl, and they brought the one who cursed (kalal) outside the camp, and stoned him with stones. And the children of Yisra’ěl did as יהוה commanded Mosheh.

Retaliation

Mat 5:38  “You heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,’[j] Exo_21:24. Footnote: jThis was the principle for the judges to follow, while יהושע speaks in the next verse of our personal conduct.

Mat 5:39  but I say to you, do not resist the wicked. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

Mat 5:40  “And he who wishes to sue you and take away your inner garment, let him have your outer garment as well.

Mat 5:41  “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

Mat 5:42  “Give to him who asks of you, and from him who wishes to borrow from you, do not turn away.

Love Your Enemies

Mat 5:43  “You heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour Lev_19:18 and hate your enemy.’k Footnote: kHate your enemy was “said,” not “written.”

Mat 5:44  “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those insulting you and persecuting you,

Mat 5:45  so that you become sons of your Father in the heavens. Because He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.l Footnote: l Luk_6:35, Act_14:16-17

Mat 5:46  “For if you love those loving you, what reward have you? Are the tax collectors not doing the same too?

Mat 5:47  “And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Are the tax collectors not doing so too?

Mat 5:48  “Therefore, be perfect,m as your Father in the heavens is perfect. Footnote: m Gen_17:1, Psa_119:1, 1Jn_2:5, Heb_6:1

Giving up your right to be right (retaliate)– maybe we have no rights – maybe we are called to lay down our rights- maybe if we are not willing to lay down our rights they will all soon be violently taken away from us anyway. Maybe bondservants don’t have any rights – maybe bondservants will be the only survivors in the end times. (Self defence and protection of our families from violent assaults are exceptions and maybe there is also a time when YHVH expects you to remove yourself from abusive relationships)

The important lesson we can take from this Torah portion is that YHVH’s nature is not to exact punishment or revenge for our wrong doing. It is rejection of YHVH’s kindness and forgiveness that brings judgment. There is however a sin that YHVH will not forgive – blasphemy against His Spirit -  Mat 12:31  “Because of this I say to you, all sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven men.

Mat 12:32  “And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Aam, it shall be forgiven him, but whoever speaks against the Set-apart Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

What does this mean? If we continue to reject His kindness and forgiveness and the  kindness and forgiveness extended to us by His servants; there comes a time He and His servants will withdraw from us – making forgiveness impossible for us – it is His kindness and goodness that brings us to repentance - Rom 2:4  Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and tolerance, and patience,[a] not knowing that the kindness of Elohim leads you to repentance? Footnote: a 2Pe_3:9.

The Sabbath Year – ‘’shmittah’’ a shadow of the millennium – the rest and reward of those who have received and walked in His kindness- the ‘’shmittah’’ is not just about showing kindness to the earth but it allows YHVH to spend a year with us and have us all to Himself.

Lev 25:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh on Mount Sinai,(‘’Behar’’ on the mount) saying,

Lev 25:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall observe a Sabbath to יהוה. (shabbaton)

Lev 25:3  ‘Six years you sow your field, and six years you prune your vineyard, and gather in its fruit,

Lev 25:4  but in the seventh year the land is to have a Sabbath of rest, a Sabbath to יהוה. Do not sow your field and do not prune your vineyard.

Lev 25:5  ‘Do not reap what grows of its own of your harvest, and do not gather the grapes of your unpruned vine, for it is a year of rest for the land.

Lev 25:6  ‘And the Sabbath of the land shall be to you for food, for you and your servant, and for your female servant and your hired servant, and for the stranger who sojourns with you,

Lev 25:7  and for your livestock and the beasts that are in your land. All its crops are for food.

The Year of Jubilee

Lev 25:8  ‘And you shall count seven Sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years. And the time of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years.

Lev 25:9  ‘You shall then sound a shophar-sound on the tenth day of the seventh new moon, on Yom haKippurima cause a shophar[b] to sound through all your land. Footnotes: aDay of the Coverings or Day of Atonement. bAnimal horn - traditionally a ram’s horn.

Lev 25:10  ‘And you shall set the fiftieth year apart, and proclaim release throughout all the land to all its inhabitants, it is a Yoel[c] for you. And each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you return to his clan. Footnote: cSee Explanatory Notes: Yoel.

Lev 25:11  ‘The fiftieth year is a Yoel to you. Do not sow, nor reap what grows of its own, nor gather from its unpruned vine.

Lev 25:12  ‘It is a Yoel, it is set-apart to you. Eat from the field its crops.

Lev 25:13  ‘In the Year of this Yoel let each one of you return to his possession.

Whatever we have lost through bad decisions will be restored back to us.

Messianic life come from those who have embraced the Hebraic roots of the faith -it has happened before and it is happening again in our day -  Act 21:20  And when they heard it, they praised the Master. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Yehuim there are who have believed, and all are ardent (zealous) for the Torah….

Praise Yah  we are in an end time restoration of the Torah unto righteousness. (many thousands)

The evidence of a ‘’barley bride’’ is found in Mat 5:11  “Blessed (‘’ashrei’’ contentment awaits) are you when they reproach and persecute you, and falsely say every wicked word against you, for My sake.

Mat 5:12  “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, because your reward in the heavens is great. For in this way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Prashat 31 Portion 103 ‘’Emor’’ Lev 23:15-44 Hosea 14:7-10 + Joel/Yoel 2:21-27

The Feast of Firstfruits – Omer Reisheet

Lev 23:9  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 23:10  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and you shall say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest to the priest. (barley)

Lev 23:11  ‘And he shall wave the sheaf before יהוה, for your acceptance. On the morrow after the Sabbath the priest waves it. (17 Aviv)

Lev 23:12  ‘And on that day when you wave the sheaf, you shall prepare a male lamb a year old, a perfect one, as an ascending offering to יהוה

Lev 23:13  and its grain offering: two-tenths of an ěphah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire to יהוה, a sweet fragrance, and its drink offering: one-fourth of a hin of wine.

Lev 23:14  ‘And you do not eat bread or roasted grain or fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your Elohim – a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

1Co 15:20  But now Messiah has been raised from the dead, and has become the first-fruit of those having fallen asleep. 1Co 15:21  For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a Man. (16 Aviv)

וספרתם לכם – counting the weeks for yourselves – reflecting on your spiritual journey…

The Feast of Weeks - Shavuot

Lev 23:15  ‘And from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, you shall count for yourselves:  וספרתם לכם seven completed Sabbaths.

Lev 23:16  ‘Until the morrow after the seventh Sabbath you count fifty days, then you shall bring a new grain offering to יהוה. (wheat)

Lev 23:17  ‘Bring from your dwellings for a wave offering (a take notice offering) two loaves of bread, (two houses of Israel)of two-tenths of an ěphah of fine flour they are, baked with leaven, first-fruits to יהוה. (good leaven Mat 13:33)

Lev 23:18  ‘And besides the bread, you shall bring seven lambs a year old, perfect ones, and one young bull and two rams. They are an ascending offering to יהוה, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire for a sweet fragrance to יהוה

Lev 23:19  ‘And you shall offer one male goat as a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old, as a slaughter of peace offerings

Lev 23:20  ‘And the priest shall wave them, besides the bread of the first-fruits, as a wave offering before יהוה, besides the two lambs. They are set-apart to יהוה for the priest.

Lev 23:21  ‘And on this same day you shall proclaim a set-apart gathering for yourselves, you do no servile work on it – a law forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations. (Shavuot)

Lev 23:22  ‘And when you reap the harvest of your land do not completely reap the corners of your field when you reap, and do not gather any gleaning from your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the stranger. I am יהוה your Elohim.’”

‘’Counting the weeks’’ – וספרתם לכם this is an appointed period of time when YHVH gives special favour to us to reflect on our earthly pilgrimage preparing us for the events of ‘’Yom Teruah’’ – an opportunity we cannot afford to miss – ‘’an open heaven’’ for 50 days.

It is important for us to realize that our spiritual journey here on earth is not a series of unconnected random events, but rather a carefully planned and choreographed tapestry of encounters designed and carefully planned and woven together by our loving Creator. All

Appointments were meant to be opportunities according to Eph 4:23 .. to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, Eph 4:24  and that you put on the renewed man which was created according to Elohim, in righteousness and set-apartness of the truth.

YHVH’s purpose for His called out ones was to conform them into the image of His Son -  Rom 8:29  Because those whom He knew beforehand, He also ordained beforehand to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, for Him to be the first-born (first fruits)among many brothers. Rom 8:30  And whom He ordained beforehand, these He also called, and whom He called, these He also declared right. And whom He declared right, these He also esteemed.

The counting of the omer was the counting of the barley harvest, barley was considered to be the food for animals and poor people – see Isa 61:1  The Spirit of the Master יהוה is upon Me, because יהוה has anointed Me to bring good news to the meek. He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.

The ‘’barley omer’’was wilderness food (manna)- Exo 16:16  “This is the word which יהוה has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s need, an omer (3,6l) for each being, according to the number of beings. Let every man take for those who are in his tent.’ ”

We can compare the counting of the omer as a counting of the bride of Messiah – these are the barley people – see Mat 5:3-12

1Co 1:25  For the foolishness of Elohim is wiser than men, and the weakness of Elohim is stronger than men.

1Co 1:26  For look at your calling, brothers, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble.

1Co 1:27  But Elohim has chosen the foolish matters of the world to put to shame the wise, and Elohim has chosen the weak of the world to put to shame the strong.

1Co 1:28  And Elohim has chosen the low-born of the world and the despised, and the ones that are not, that He might bring to naught the ones that are,

1Co 1:29  so that no flesh should boast in His presence.

1Co 1:30  And of Him you are in Messiah יהושע, who became for us wisdom from Elohim, righteousness also, and set-apartness and redemption,

1Co 1:31  that, as it has been written, “He who boasts, let him boast in יהוה.” Jer_9:23-24

The Feast of Trumpets – Yom Teruah – Day of the great awakening blast -‘’The rapture’’ ( as in the dead who will first be lifted up in the clouds and then will follow those in Messiah  - not as in “the rapture” before the Great tribulation but at the end when Yahshua comes back for the Millennium reign.)

1Th 4:16  Because the Master Himself shall come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first. 1Th 4:17  Then we, the living who are left over, shall be caught away together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air – and so we shall always be with the Master.

1Th 4:18  So, then, encourage one another with these words.

Some will be ready some won’t be - The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Mat 25:1  “Then the reign of the heavens shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Mat 25:2  “And five of them were wise, and five foolish. Mat 25:3  “Those who were foolish, having taken their lamps, took no oil with them,

Mat 25:4  but the wise took oil in their containers with their lamps. Mat 25:5  “Now while the bridegroom took time, they all slumbered and slept. Mat 25:6  “And at midnight a cry was heard, ‘See, the bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him!’ Mat 25:7  “Then all those maidens rose up and trimmed their lamps. Mat 25:8  “And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ Mat 25:9  “But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, indeed, there would not be enough for us and you. Instead, go to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ Mat 25:10  “And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut.

Mat 25:11  “And later the other maidens also came, saying, ‘Master, Master, open up for us!’

Mat 25:12  “But he answering, said, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

Mat 25:13  “Watch therefore, because you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Aam is coming,

What kind of price have you been willing to pay on your pilgrim journey?

Lev 23:23  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 23:24  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘In the seventh new moon, on the first day of the new moon, you have a rest, a remembrance of Teru‛ah,c a set-apart gathering. Footnote: cLit. Soundings, by instrument or human voice.

Lev 23:25  ‘You do no servile work, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה.’ ”

Yahshua is returning for a ‘’meek, poor in Spirit’’ bride – a ‘’barley bride’’ and transform them into a 1Pe 2:9 people: But you are a chosen race,b Deu_10:15 a royal priesthood,c Isa_61:6 a set-apart nation,d Exo_19:6 a people for a possession,e Isa_43:2 that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, Footnotes: bAlso see Isa_43:20. cAlso see Isa_66:21. dAlso see Deu_7:6. eAlso see Exo_19:5, Tit_2:14

According to ancient rabbinic tradition the period of time between Yom Teruah and Yom ha kippurim are known as the ‘’days of awe’’- yammim noraim- when the ‘’Books’’ are opened and His people are judged – some scholars believe this will be the period of time when the bowls of wrath are poured out upon the earth - Rev 16.

Rom 14:10  But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Messiah.

2Co 5:10  For we all have to appear before the judgment seat of Messiah, in order for each one to receive according to what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.[b] Footnote: bSee Mat_16:27, Joh_5:29

The Day of Atonement  Yom haKippurim - when Yahshua puts his feet on the mount of Olives.

Lev 23:26  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 23:27  “On the tenth day of this seventh new moon is Yom haKippurim.[d] It shall be a set-apart gathering for you. And you shall afflict your beings and shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. Foonote: dDay of Atonement or Day of the Coverings.

Lev 23:28  “And you do no work on that same day, for it is Yom Kippurim, to make atonement for you before יהוה your Elohim. (atonement and removing the sin of His Bride)

Lev 23:29  “For any being who is not afflicted on that same day, he shall be cut off from his people.

Lev 23:30  “And any being who does any work on that same day, that being I shall destroy from the midst of his people.

Lev 23:31  “You do no work – a law forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

Lev 23:32  ‘It is a Sabbath of rest to you, and you shall afflict your beings. On the ninth day of the new moon at evening, from evening to evening, you observe your Sabbath.”

This is considered to be the most set apart appointment of the ‘’moedim’’ (Appointed times) and can be compared to a betrothed couple entering into the ‘’marriage chamber’’ for the first time to consummate their marriage – the ‘’yachud’’ comes from the Hebrew word ‘’yachad’’ which means together.

Why would you ‘’afflict’’ your being on that day? You really want to make sure that there is nothing in your life that could disqualify you from ‘’consummating’’ your life with the life of Messiah.

The Feast of BoothsSukkot- the marriage supper of the Lamb – Rev 19

Lev 23:33  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 23:34  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh new moon is the Festival of Sukkote for seven days to יהוה. Footnote: eBooths.

Lev 23:35  ‘On the first day is a set-apart gathering, you do no servile work.

Lev 23:36  ‘For seven days you bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. On the eighth day (shemeni azareth) there shall be a set-apart gathering for you, and you shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה. It is a closing (restricted assembly עצרת) festival, you do no servile work.

Lev 23:37  ‘These are the appointed times of יהוה which you proclaim as set-apart gatherings, to bring an offering made by fire to יהוה, an ascending offering and a grain offering, a slaughtering and drink offerings, as commanded for every day –

Lev 23:38  besides the Sabbaths of יהוה, and besides your gifts, and besides all your vows, and besides all your voluntary offerings which you give to יהוה

Lev 23:39  ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh new moon, when you gather in the fruit of the land, celebrate the festival of יהוה for seven days. On the first day is a rest, and on the eighth day a rest. (this eighth day is possibly also the time of the great white throne of judgment- Rev 20:11-15)

Lev 23:40  ‘And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of good trees, branches of palm trees, twigs of leafy trees, and willows of the stream, and shall rejoice before יהוה your Elohim for seven days. (the seventh day is ‘’hoshianna rabbah’’- the great ‘’please save us’’)

Lev 23:41  ‘And you shall celebrate it as a festival to יהוה for seven days in the year – a law forever in your generations. Celebrate it in the seventh new moon

Lev 23:42  ‘Dwell in booths for seven days; all who are native born in Yisra’ěl dwell in booths,

Lev 23:43  so that your generations know that I made the children of Yisra’ěl dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim. I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ”

Lev 23:44  Thus did Mosheh speak of the appointed times of יהוה to the children of Yisra’ěl.

‘’Shoel’’ Midrash-

A pagan philosophy of the afterlife was introduced into the world by Plato and Socrates – This influence led to Christianity adopting the view that there are only two afterlife choices available to mankind – heaven or hell. This philosophy has ‘’captured’’ most Christians in their understanding of this matter. (it has also captured Judaism and Islam)

The scriptures make several references to a place called ‘’sheol’’ a Hebrew word meaning (Strongs 7585)  ‘’the grave or the underworld - the OT designation for the abode of the dead’’

What does the Bible say about Sheol?

‘’In Ezekiel 32:21-23 Sheol is represented as a great underground mausoleum, or as a mighty pit with graves all round its sides. Always Sheol was regarded as the appointed place for all persons, the great rendezvous of the dead. Here the dead are gathered to their tribes and families’’ - Eze 32:21  “The mightiest among the mighty speak to him out of the midst of She’ol with those who help him, ‘They have gone down, they lie with the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.’

Psa 139:7  Where would I go from Your Spirit? Or where would I flee from Your face?

Psa 139:8  If I go up into the heavens, You are there; If I make my bed in She’ol, see, You are there.

1Pe 4:6  For this reason the Good News was also brought to those who are dead, so that, whereas they are judged according to men in the flesh, they might live according to Elohim in the spirit.

Act 2:26  ‘For this reason my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad, and now my flesh shall also rest in expectation, Act 2:27  because You shall not leave my being in She’ol, nor shall You give Your Lovingly-committed One to see corruption. Act 2:28  ‘You have made known to me the ways of life, You shall fill me with joy in Your presence.’ Psa_16:8-11..... Psa 16:10  For You do not leave my being in She’ol, Neither let Your Lovingly-committed One see corruption. Psa 16:11  You show me the path of life; In Your presence is joy to satisfaction; At Your right hand are pleasures forever.

Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. Ephesians 4:8-10 Therefore it is said, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, (Gk – he captures captivity) and he gave gifts to men.” (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)

‘’We see this kind of compartmentalization most clearly in Scripture in Jesus’s parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31), in which Lazarus the beggar dies and rests in Abraham’s bosom, while the rich man is consigned to Hades. They can still communicate, but they are separated by a great chasm and cannot reverse their fate. But the contours of the story reflect common Jewish beliefs about the afterlife during the Second Temple period.’’

https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/what-is-sheol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YP9addx94M  - different compartments of Sheol.

Perhaps the Christian position on this matter was influenced by ‘’replacement’’ theology – ‘’Christians were no longer subject to Old Testament ideas and values’’ and that the 1000 year millennial reign of Messiah was meant for the Jews and ‘’backslidden Christians’’ during this period it is commonly believed that the true Christians will be in heaven with God.’’

What if this position is wrong? What about the consequences?  You decide.

My own conclusion is that the ‘’moedim’’ or “appointments of YHVH” are the ‘’forever laws’’ for all His people that will one day allow Yahshua to usher obedient believers into the presence of YHVH at a future appointed time of ‘’shemeni atzareth’’ -Sheol is the place for the ‘’disobedient’’ as well as the ‘’obedient’’ -for some the waiting will be pleasant for others not so pleasant. Those deemed worthy will meet Yahshua in the air at an appointed Yom Teruah (trumpets) and those who have not been found worthy will have to wait for the second resurrection and the great white throne of judgment.

This transitionary period should not be confused with the Catholic doctrine of ‘’purgatory’’

Heb 9:27  “And as it awaits men to die once, and after this the judgment, Heb 9:28  so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, Isa_53:12 shall appear a second time, apart from sin, to those waiting for Him, unto deliverance.”

In Sheol it is too late for repentance – however I believe YHVH will still show mercy to many at the great white throne of judgement after the Hoshianna Rabba (seventh day of Sukkot wgich speaks of the great salvation)– Joh 3:36  “He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Elohim remains on him.”

2Co 5:11  Knowing, therefore, the fear of יהוה, we persuade men

1Jn 3:3  And everyone having this expectation in Him cleanses himself, as He is clean.

1Pe 1:22  Now that you have cleansed your lives in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned brotherly love, love one another fervently with a clean heart,

Isa 26:19  Let Your dead live, together with my dead body, let them arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust; for Your dew is a dew of light, and let the earth give birth to the departed spirits.a Footnote: aDeparted spirits - the Repha’im

Isa 26:20  Go, my people, enter your rooms, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little while, until the displeasure is past.

Isa 26:21  For look, יהוה is coming out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their crookedness. And the earth shall disclose her blood, and no longer cover her killed ones.

Zec 9:11  “Also you, because of the blood of your covenant, I shall send your prisoners out of the pit.

Zec 9:12  “Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of the expectation. Even today I declare that I return double to you.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Parashat 31 Portion 102 ‘’Emor’’ Lev 23:9-32 Josh 5:11-15 + 6:23-27

The Sabbath/Shabbat

Lev 23:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 23:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘The appointed times(moedim) of יהוה, which you are to proclaim as set-apart gatherings,(mikrei kodesh) My appointed times, (not Jewish festivals) are these:

Lev 23:3  ‘Six days work is done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath (שׁבתון) of rest, (a COMPLETE day of REST – no work, no food making, whereas a Feast day of rest is no servile work but we are allowed to make food. Yom haKippuri is on the same level as a Weekly Shabbat Shabbaton (NO work but in that day NO FOOD id even eaten but it is a day of FAST) a set-apart gathering. You do no work, it is a Sabbath to יהוה in all your dwellings.

In the Hebrew it basically say a Shabbat Shabbaton for the weekly Shabbat and for Yom haKippurim.

Why does YHVH give us these special appointed times? He is showing us a way back into His Kingdom and into His presence - He is showing us through the Appointed Times the Seven-thousand year plan that He has for mankind.

We may argue ‘’is not Yahshua the only way, truth and life back into the presence of the Father?’’

The Father will answer and say ‘’ these are my eternal appointments and must be obeyed as long as the present heavens and earth exist, if you desire to return to Me – a law forever’’.

When we examine and meditate carefully on these appointments – we see that they reveal the very heart and ministry of our Messiah to us on earth.

Mar 2:27  And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.

Mar 2:28  “So the Son of Aḏam is also Master of the Sabbath.”[a] Footnote: aSee also Gen_2:2-3

Vs 28 clearly states that is Yahshua who exercises authority even over the rules and regulations that govern the Sabbath day and not man - vs 27  Yahshua teaches that the sabbath was never meant to be a burden to man but a blessing. Sadly, much of what men do or do not do on a sabbath is guided by the commandments and traditions of men. May the Spirit of YHVH give us insight into these matters. If we are to walk as Yahshua walked regarding the Sabbath we are certainly going to offend many people as he did – both Jew and Gentile.

Luk 4:16  And He came to Natsareth, where He had been brought up. And according to His practice, He went into the congregation on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

Luk 4:17  And the scroll of the prophet Yeshayahu was handed to Him. And having unrolled the scroll, He found the place where it was written:

Luk 4:18  “The Spirit of יהוה is upon Me,c because He has anointed Me to bring the Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send away crushed ones with a release, Footnote: cSee Isa_61:1-3

Luk 4:19  to proclaim the acceptable year of יהוה.”d Isa_61:1-2 Footnote: dAlso see Isa_58:6

Luk 4:20  And having rolled up the scroll, He gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the congregation were fixed upon Him.

Luk 4:21  And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been filled in your hearing.”

Luk 4:22  And all were bearing witness to Him, and marvelled at the pleasant words that came out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not the son of Yosěph?”

The sabbath is an ideal time to come together and share on the blessings and insights you have received while meditating on the weeks Torah portion.

What is a ‘’Shabbaton”? Used 5x in this chapter- See Ex 14:13 – this is the ‘’ התיצבו ‘’ moment.

These appointments with YHVH are the blue print for the restoration of all things – ‘’tikkun olam’’

It’s about our personal restoration; it’s about the restoration of Israel; it’s about the restoration of nations; it’s about the restoration of our planet.

The appearance of the ‘’shabbatons’’ contains the key to the mystery of this restoration. It is about what we as believers alone are called to do and what YHVH alone will do. It is significant that the noun ‘’shabbat’’ is feminine and the noun ‘’shabbaton’’ is masculine.

The Passover feast (Pesach)including the feast of unleavened bread and Shavuot (Feast of Weeks transliterated out of Greek as Pentecost) are concerned about the first coming of Messiah these include our call to repent, to be born again, to be immersed in water and filled with the Spirit. The ‘’shabbatons’’ are found in the fall feasts – the return of Messiah- first in the clouds, (Yom teruah) when Messiah sets his feet on the mount of Olives (Yom ha Kippurim) and then the marriage supper of the Lamb (Sukkot) in the beginning of the millennium. The memorial and celebration of these events are ‘’shabbatons’’ Why? Because we have no control over these events.

Why my Rabbi said that the difference between shabbat and shabbat shabbaton is: one is for the people and one is for God.https://blog.therefinersfire.org/2018/02/the-difference-between-shabbat-and.html     An interesting comment!

There may be a huge difference from ‘’seeing’’ the kingdom and ‘’entering’’ the kingdom.

Joh 3:3  יהושע answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he is unable to see[a] the reign of Elohim.” Footnote: aOr perceive.

Joh 3:4  Naḵdimon said to Him, “How is a man able to be born when he is old? Is he able to enter into his mother’s womb a second time and be born?”

Joh 3:5  יהושע answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he is unable to enter into the reign of Elohim.

Joh 3:6  “That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit.

Depending on our yielding to Messiah’s instructions will determine if we ‘’see’’ or ‘’enter’’ into the kingdom.

1Co 10:1  For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 1Co 10:2  and all were immersed into Mosheh in the cloud and in the sea, 1Co 10:3  and all ate the same spiritual food, 1Co 10:4  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah. 1Co 10:5  However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the wilderness. 1Co 10:6  And these became examples for us……and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come….1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.

We see the same pattern in Heb 6:1  Therefore, having left the word of the beginning of the Messiah, let us go on to perfection,[a] not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of belief toward Elohim, Footnote: a Mat_5:48. Heb 6:2  of the teaching of immersions, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of everlasting judgment.

The first three foundations have to do with what we must do and the last three have to do what YHVH does for and in us.

Heb 6:3  And this we shall do, if Elohim indeed permits.

Heb 6:4  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Set-apart Spirit,

Heb 6:5  and have tasted the good Word of Elohim and the powers of the age to come,

Heb 6:6  and fall away, to renew them again to repentance – having impaled for themselves the Son of Elohim again, and put Him to open shame.b Footnote: bSee Heb_10:26-31.

Heb 10:36  For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the desire of Elohim, you receive the promise: Heb 10:37  “For yet a little while – He who is coming shall come and shall not delay.”

Heb 10:38  “But the righteous shall live by belief, but if anyone draws back, my being has no pleasure in him.” Hab_2:3-4. Heb 10:39  But we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but of belief to the preservation of life. (Tikkun olam)

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
