Parashat 45 Portion 148 ‘’Va etchanan’’ Deut 4 :25-49 Jer 10 :19-24

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, You have set us apart by Your commandments and have commanded us to actively study Your Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May You open our eyes to see marvellous truths from Your Torah. Thank You for calling us who were once gentiles excluded from the citizenship of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise having no expectation and without Elohim- but now through the blood of Messiah we have gained access into the covenant and have obtained citizenship into the commonwealth of Israel.  Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel.  Amein

כי תוליד – when you will bring forth children…

Deu 4:25  “When you bring forth children and grandchildren, and shall grow old (become slack) in the land, and shall do corruptly and make a carved image in the form of whatever, and shall do what is evil in the eyes of יהוה your Elohim to provoke Him,

Despite all the help and council the Set Apart Spirit of YHVH has given His people, most of us seem paralyzed to obey His Word – because we have all been captured by our idolatry- Rom 1:21-23

Luk 7:31  And the Master said, “To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?

Luk 7:32  “They are like children sitting in the market-place and calling to each other, saying, ‘We played the flute for you and you did not dance, we lamented for you and you did not weep.’

Luk 7:33  “For Yoanan the Immerser came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’

Luk 7:34  “The Son of Aam has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a man, a glutton and a winedrinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

Luk 7:35  “And wisdom is declared right by all her children.”

The state of our children is an indicator of the wisdom of the parents, elders and the shepherds.

Jer 10:19  Woe to me for my breaking! My wound is grievous, but I say, “This is my sickness, and I bear it.

Jer 10:20  “My tent has been ravaged, and all my cords have been broken. My children have gone from me, and they are no more. There is no one to pitch my tent any more, or to set up my curtains.

Jer 10:21  For the shepherds have become brutish, and they have not sought יהוה. Therefore they did not understand, and all their flock scattered.”[d] Footnote: dSee Jer_2:8, Jer_12:10-11, Jer_50:6-7, Eze_34:1-23, 2Ti_4:3-4, 2Pe_2:1-22

Jer 10:22  See, it has come, the voice of a report, and a great shaking out of the land of the north, to make the cities of Yehuah a waste, a habitation of jackals.

Jer 10:23  O יהוה, I know the way of man is not in himself, it is not for man who walks to direct his own steps.

Jer 10:24  O יהוה, chastise me, but with right-ruling – not in Your displeasure, lest You bring me to naught.

Deu 4:26  “I shall call the heavens and earth to witness against you on that day, that you soon completely perish from the land which you pass over the Yarděn to possess – you do not prolong your days in it but are completely destroyed.

Deu 4:27  “And יהוה shall scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations where יהוה drives you. Hosea 3:5

Deu 4:28  “And there you shall serve mighty ones, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

Deu 4:29  “But from there you shall seek יהוה your Elohim, and shall find, when you search for Him with all your heart[b] and with all your being. Footnote: b Jer_29:13

Deu 4:30  “In your distress, when all these words shall come upon you in the latter days, then you shall return to יהוה your Elohim and shall obey His voice.

Despite our condition and disobedience YHVH is always willing to extend His Hand of mercy to us. Even the remnant YHVH chooses to establish His righteousness on earth, will eventually reach out to the disobedient masses to show them the way back into His presence to be healed and restored. Pro 13:15  Good understanding gains favour, But the way of the treacherous (transgressor)  is hard.

Deu 4:31  “For יהוה your Elohim is a compassionate Ěl, He does not forsake you, nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

Deu 4:32  “For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that Elohim created man on the earth, and ask from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, whether there has been a Word as great as this, or has been heard like it.

Mal 3:6  “For I am יהוה, I shall not change,[a] and you, O sons of Ya‛aqo, shall not come to an end. Footnote: a Jas_1:17

Deu 4:33  “Has a people heard the voice of Elohim speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

Deu 4:34  “Or has Elohim tried to go and take for Himself a nation from the midst of a nation by trials, and by signs, and by wonders, and by battle, and by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great fearsome deeds, according to all that יהוה your Elohim did for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes?

Deu 4:35  “You have been shown it, to know that יהוה Himself is Elohim; there is no one beside Him.

Deu 4:36  “From the heavens He let you hear His voice, to instruct you, and on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.

Deu 4:37  “And because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their seed after them, and brought you out of Mitsrayim with His Presence, with His great power,

Deu 4:38  to drive out from before you nations greater and stronger than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is today.

Deu 4:39  “And you shall know today, and shall recall to your heart that יהוה Himself is Elohim in the heavens above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.

Deu 4:40  “And you shall guard His laws and His commands which I command you today, so that it is well with you and with your children after you, and so that you prolong your days on the soil which יהוה your Elohim is giving you for all time.”

כי תוליד – when you will bring forth children…

In the previous Torah portion we saw how Moshe was pleading (va etchanan) with YHVH – In this Torah portion it seems to be YHVH pleading (va etchanan)

The evidence that His people are listening and obeying is witnessed in the lives of their children because of a powerful impartation of YHVH’s truth (Torah) to the children and to the children’s children generation after generation.

This reality should deeply concern all those who are believers and desire to please the Father – because it has not happened in any sustained form ever in the history of mankind.

Perhaps the reason for this condition is that mankind has wrapped himself up with a cloak of idolatry to avoid facing the truth.

Rom 1:18  For the wrath of Elohim is revealed from heaven against all wickedness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

Rom 1:19  because that which is known of Elohim is manifest among them, for Elohim has manifested it to them.

Rom 1:20  For since the creation of the world His invisible qualities have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, both His everlasting power and Mightiness, for them to be without excuse,

Rom 1:21  because, although they knew Elohim, they did not esteem Him as Elohim, nor gave thanks, but became vain in their reasonings, and their undiscerning heart was darkened.

Rom 1:22  Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Rom 1:23  and changed the esteem of the incorruptible Elohim into the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds and of four-footed beasts and of reptiles.

Rom 1:24  Therefore Elohim gave them up to uncleanness in the lust of their hearts, to disrespect their bodies among themselves,

Rom 1:25  who changed the truth of Elohim into the falsehood, and worshipped and served what was created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Aměn.

If the Messiah is going to teach the Torah to all the nations when he returns why are we not doing it today?

Because the Messiah knows the truth of this Torah portion – He knows that the most powerful witness  on earth is when families are united in His truth and His Torah – generation after generation. The world has never seen this before – but it soon will.

Isa 2:2  And it shall be in the latter days that the mountain of the House of יהוה is established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills. And all nations shall flow to it.

Isa 2:3  And many peoples (no longer just a remnant)shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of יהוה, to the House of the Elohim of Ya‛aqo, and let Him teach us His ways, and let us walk in His paths, for out of Tsiyon comes forth the Torah, and the Word of יהוה from Yerushalayim.”

Eventually the blessing of the remnant will be extended to bless all the nations.

YHVH will help us - Deu 4:30  “In your distress, when all these words shall come upon you in the latter days, then you shall return to יהוה your Elohim and shall obey His voice.

Cities of Refuge – even during the millenium….

Deu 4:41  Then Mosheh separated three cities beyond the Yarděn, toward the rising of the sun,

Deu 4:42  for a man-slayer to flee there, he who unknowingly murdered his neighbour, without having hated him in time past, and might flee to one of these cities and live:

Deu 4:43  Betser in the wilderness in the level land for the Re’uěnites, and Ramoth in Gil‛a for the Gaites, and Golan in Bashan for the Menashshites.

Despite the overwhelming goodness of YHVH and the restoration of family life there will still be premeditated as well as accidental homicides taking place during the Messianic rule on earth How does one understand this? Because YHVH knows there will always be people who reject His truth and His love  - never his bride - It is hard to believe, but it is true – this also applies to children who grow up in loving kindness and are know the ways of YHVH – they too must choose for themselves whether they want to obey and continue to serve YHVH and honour their parents.

Mat 10:36  and a man’s enemies are those of his own household.[d] Mic_7:6. Footnote: dLuk_12:53, Mic_7:6

Mat 10:37  “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me, and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

In the millennial rule of Messiah – the world drastically changes – righteous families are established for all generations that do not depart from YHVH’s Torah, who walk in all His ways.

Introduction to the Law

Deu 4:44  And this is the Torah which Mosheh set before the children of Yisra’ěl.

Deu 4:45  These are the witnesses, and the laws, and the right-rulings which Mosheh spoke to the children of Yisra’ěl after they came out of Mitsrayim,

Deu 4:46  beyond the Yarděn, in the valley opposite Běyth Pe‛or, in the land of Sion sovereign of the Amorites, who dwelt at eshbon, whom Mosheh and the children of Yisra’ěl had stricken after they came out of Mitsrayim.

Deu 4:47  And they took possession of his land and the land of O sovereign of Bashan, two sovereigns of the Amorites, who were beyond the Yarděn, toward the rising of the sun,

Deu 4:48  from Aro‛ěr, which is on the bank of the wadi Arnon, even to Mount Siyon, which is ermon,

Deu 4:49  and all the desert plain beyond the Yarděn as far as the Sea of the Araah, below the slopes of Pisgah.

And that is why we do the Torah portions – it is YHVH’s way of uniting and guiding families and communities to walk in harmony and in truth and in so doing brining blessings and light to all the families of the earth. It is in this environment that we will experience a 1 Cor 12, 13 &14 community – Where YHVH Himself commands the blessing – Ps 133

Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

There is amazing example in the scriptures of a set apart family who walked in the ways of YHVH. For several generations they refused to assimilate into the ways of ungodly people.

https://www.gotquestions.org/Rechabites.html

The Rechabites (also Recabite, Rekabite) were a nomadic people group known for their strict rules to abstain from wine, from building houses, from sowing seed, and from planting vineyards (Jeremiah 35:6–7). The Rechabites were faithful to abide by these rules through the generations, all the way from the time of Jehu (2 Kings 10:15) to the time of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 35:8–10)—over 200 years.

The Rechabites were descendants of Rechab (or Recab or Rekab), a Kenite and thus related to the Midianites and Moses’ family by marriage (see Judges 1:16). According to Jeremiah 35:6, the Rechabites’ strict rules were put in place by a son (or descendant) of Rechab named Jehonadab (or Jonadab). This is the same Jehonadab who helped Jehu rid Israel of Baal-worship after the time of Ahab (2 Kings 10:15–27). Scholars have differing opinions as to why Jehonadab implemented the rules, but many believe he sought to preserve the primitive lifestyle of his nomadic forebears.

God used the faithfulness of the Rechabites to teach an important lesson to His people. The Lord told Jeremiah, “Go to the Rekabite family and invite them to come to one of the side rooms of the house of the LORD and give them wine to drink” (Jeremiah 35:2). The prophet gathered the Rechabites into the house of the LORD and set bowls of wine in front of them (verses 3–5). The Rechabites firmly declined the wine and explained the command of their forefather (verse 6). They remained faithful to their family tradition.

God then told Jeremiah to go and tell the people of Judah to learn a lesson from the Rechabites’ faithful obedience to Jehonadab (Jeremiah 35:12–14). God contrasted the obedience of the Rechabites to the disobedience of His own people. Again and again God had sent His prophets to tell the Israelites to turn from their wicked ways, but the people had not heeded God’s Word. “The descendants of Jehonadab son of Rekab have carried out the command their forefather gave them, but these people have not obeyed me” (verse 16).

As a result of the Israelites’ historic disobedience, God promised to bring disaster upon the nation (Jeremiah 35:17). But God commended the family of the Rechabites and gave them a promise: “Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me” (verse 19).

There is much to learn from this family. The Rechabites stood firm against assimilating into the culture of the time. They were commended by God for their faithfulness and obedience to their father. The Rechabites are an example of steadfastness. God desires His people to live in obedience and steadfastness to Him.

Wisdom is known by her children.

Rom 3:11  “There is no one who is understanding, there is none who is seeking Elohim.

c. There is none who seeks after God: We deceive ourselves into thinking that man, on his own, really does seek after God. But don’t all the religion and rituals and practices from the beginning of time demonstrate that man seeks after God? Not at all. If man initiates the search then he doesn’t seek the true God, the God of the Bible. Instead he seeks an idol that he makes himself.

i. “You have gone through this form of worship, but you have not sought after God. I am sick of this empty religiousness. We see it everywhere; it is not communion with God, it is not getting to God; indeed, God is not in it at all.” (Spurgeon) Your entire religious experience is built on a heap of sand. Heb 12:27-29

Joh 15:16  “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name He might give you.

Joh 6:44  “No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. And I shall raise him up in the last day.
