Parashat 15 (‘’Bo’’) Portion 56 – Shemot 10:1 –29 - Is 19:1-7 1 Sam 6:6-14 Ps 78:1-72

Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.

הכבדתי   From the Hebrew word ‘’kavod’’ Strongs 3513 – to make heavy (or hardened) – to cause to be honoured

Exo 10:1  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Go (‘’Bo’’) in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened- הכבדתי

his heart and the hearts of his servants, so that I show these signs of Mine before him,

All those who cling to any religious idea that contradicts YHVH’s Word or Purpose will have their hearts hardened so that YHVH’s Name His Truth and His Chosen Ones may be Esteemed.

After the bowls of wrath are poured out in the last days, every religious idea that contradicts YHVH’s Word will be destroyed – Rev 17 and 18 - Rev 18:4  And I heard another voice from the heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.[a] Footnote: a Jer_51:6, Jer_51:9, Jer_51:45. Also see Jer_50:8, Jer_50:13, Jer_50:28

Exo 10:2  and that you relate in the hearing of your son and your son’s son what I have done in Mitsrayim, and My signs which I have done among them. And you shall know that I am יהוה.”

Note the use of the words ‘’son and sons’’’ these words appear in the singular. Why? Because the responsibility to teach future generations of these events is the individual responsibility of the priest of every household. The Pesach/Passover was not held in a large banquet hall but in the individual homes of devout families who can invite another family if they are small.

Exo 10:3  And Mosheh and Aharon came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus said יהוה Elohim of the Heḇrews, ‘Till when shall you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they serve Me.

YHVH’s people were in bondage because they had willingly assimilated into the religious ideas of Egypt. Sadly all Israelites were powerless to come out of that bondage and most Israelites were determined to remain in that bondage.

Exo 10:4  ‘Or else, if you refuse to let My people go, see, tomorrow I am bringing locusts within your borders.

Eventually a small remnant left Egypt and of that small remnant only two men who were older than 20 years finally entered into the Promised Land – Yehoshua and Calev.

Mat 19:25  And when His taught ones heard it, they were very astonished, saying, “Who then is able to be saved?”

Mat 19:26  And looking intently יהושע said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with Elohim all is possible.”

Exo 10:5  ‘And they shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one is able to see the land. And they shall eat the rest of what has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field.

Exo 10:6  ‘And they shall fill your houses, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Mitsrites, which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’ ” Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh.

Exo 10:7  And Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “Till when would this one be a snare to us? Let the men go, so that they serve יהוה their Elohim. Do you not yet know that Mitsrayim is destroyed?”

Exo 10:8  And Mosheh and Aharon were brought back to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve יהוה your Elohim. Who are the ones that are going?”

Exo 10:9  And Mosheh said, “We are going with our young and our old, with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we are going, for we have a festival to יהוה.”

Exo 10:10  And he said to them, “Let יהוה be with you as I let you and your little ones go! Watch, for evil is before your face! ‘(this is possibly a veiled threat from Pharoah)

Exo 10:11  “Not so! You men go now, and serve יהוה, for that is what you desired.” And they were driven out from the presence of Pharaoh.

Exo 10:12  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Mitsrayim for the locusts to come upon the land of Mitsrayim, and eat every plant of the land – all that the hail has left.”

Exo 10:13  And Mosheh stretched out his rod over the land of Mitsrayim, and יהוה brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. Morning came, and the east wind brought the locusts.

Exo 10:14  And the locusts went up over all the land of Mitsrayim and settled within all the borders of Mitsrayim, very grievous. There had never been locusts like them before, nor would there again be like them.

Exo 10:15  And they covered the surface of all the land, so that the land was darkened. And they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left, and no greenness was left on the trees or on the plants of the field, in all the land of Mitsrayim.

Exo 10:16  Pharaoh then called for Mosheh and Aharon in haste, and said, “I have sinned against יהוה your Elohim and against you.

Exo 10:17  “And now, please forgive my sin only this once, and pray to יהוה your Elohim, that He would only turn away this death from me.”

Exo 10:18  And he went out from Pharaoh and prayed to יהוה.

Exo 10:19  And יהוה turned a very strong west wind, which took the locusts away and blew them into the Sea of Reeds. Not one locust was left within all the border of Mitsrayim.

Exo 10:20  However, יהוה hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not let the children of Yisra’ĕl go.

Exo 10:21  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Stretch out your hand toward the heavens, and let there be darkness over the land of Mitsrayim, even a darkness which is felt.”

Exo 10:22  And Mosheh stretched out his hand toward the heavens, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Mitsrayim for three days.

Exo 10:23  They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, while all the children of Yisra’ĕl had light in their dwellings.

Rashi comments that one of the reasons darkness came over Mitzrayim, is that there were many Hebrews who did not deserve to be freed – because they had so assimilated into Egyptian culture that there was no hope for them to return to the covenant of Yisrael. These were to die so YHVH provided the darkness so that the Mitsrites would not see their death and claim that the plagues affected Hebrews and Mitsrites alike.

Exo 10:24  And Pharaoh called to Mosheh and said, “Go, serve יהוה, only leave your flocks and your herds behind. Let your little ones go with you too.”

Exo 10:25  But Mosheh said, “You yourself are to provide us with slaughterings and burnt offerings, to prepare for יהוה our Elohim.

Exo 10:26  “And our livestock are to go with us too, not a hoof is to be left behind, for we have to take some of them to serve יהוה our Elohim, and we ourselves do not know with what we are to serve יהוה until we come there.”

Exo 10:27  However, יהוה hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he would not let them go.

Exo 10:28  And Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Watch yourself and see my face no more, for in the day you see my face you die!”

Exo 10:29  And Mosheh said, “You have spoken rightly – never again do I see your face!”

Exo 11:1  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “I am bringing yet one more plague on Pharaoh and on Mitsrayim. After that he is going to let you go from here. When he lets you go, he shall drive you out from here altogether.

Note the prophetic (haftarah)portion is written in the future tense – these events although they have happened in history will happen again.

Isa 19:1  The message concerning Mitsrayim. See, יהוה is riding on a swift cloud, and He shall come into Mitsrayim. And the idols of Mitsrayim shall tremble at His presence, and the heart of Mitsrayim melt in its midst. (Mitzrayim represents all those that have prevented YHVH’s people from being a light to all the nations Is 49:6 + Is 60:1-3)  -In the last days Yerushalayim is called Sodom and Mitsrayim Rev 11:8 – many in Jerusalem will also try to oppose YHVH’s calling of a remnant )

Isa 19:2  “And I shall stir up Mitsrites against Mitsrites, and they shall fight, each one against his brother, and each one against his neighbour, city against city, reign against reign.

Isa 19:3  “And the spirit of Mitsrayim shall vanish within them, and I destroy their counsel. And they shall seek the idols and the mutterers, the mediums and the sorcerers.

Isa 19:5  And waters shall fail from the sea, and the river wasted and dried up.

Isa 19:6  And the rivers shall stink, and the streams shall be weak and dried up. Reeds and rushes shall wither.

Isa 19:7  Bare places by the River, by the mouth of the River, and every sown field by the River shall wither. It shall be driven away and be no more.

Psa 78:1  My people, give ear to my Torah, Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Psa 78:2  I open my mouth in a parable; I utter riddles of old,

Psa 78:3  Which we have heard and known, For our fathers have related them to us.

Psa 78:4  We do not hide them from their children, Relating to the generation to come the praises of יהוה, And His strength and His wonders which He has done.

Psa 78:5  For He raised a witness in Ya‛aqoḇ, And set a Torah in Yisra’ěl, Which He commanded our fathers, To teach them to their children;

Psa 78:7  And place their trust in Elohim, And not forget the works of Ěl, But watch over His commands,

Psa 78:8  And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation which did not prepare its heart, Whose spirit was not steadfast to Ěl.

Psa 78:9  The children of Ephrayim, armed bowmen, Turned back in the day of battle.

Psa 78:10  They did not guard the covenant of Elohim, And they refused to walk in His Torah,

Psa 78:11  And they forgot His deeds And His wonders which He had shown them.

Psalm 78 goes on to remind us of what happened in Egypt –  see also 1Cor 10

Mat 13:34  יהושע said all this to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable,

Mat 13:35  so that what was spoken by the prophet might be filled, saying, “I shall open My mouth in parables, I shall pour forth what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.” Psa_78:2

Why does He speak in parables?

Mat 13:10  And the taught ones came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”

Mat 13:11  And He answering, said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the secrets of the reign of the heavens, but to them it has not been given.

What is the secret, what is the parable to this week’s Torah portion?

A small remnant is been prepared to be the light for a very dark world by forsaking the death found by trying to find life from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and are returning to the tree of life – The Torah.

Deu 30:14  “For the Word (Torah) is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart – to do it.

Deu 30:15  “See, I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil,

Deu 30:16  in that I am commanding you today to love יהוה your Elohim, to walk in His ways, and to guard His commands, and His laws, and His right-rulings. And you shall live and increase, and יהוה your Elohim shall bless you in the land which you go to possess.

Deu 30:17  “But if your heart turns away, and you do not obey, and shall be drawn away, and shall bow down to other mighty ones and serve them,

Deu 30:18  “I have declared to you today that you shall certainly perish, you shall not prolong your days in the land which you are passing over the Yarděn to enter and possess.

Deu 30:19  “I have called the heavens and the earth as witnesses today against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore, you shall choose life, so that you live, both you and your seed,

Deu 30:20  to love יהוה your Elohim, to obey His voice, and to cling to Him – for He is your life and the length of your days – to dwell in the land which יהוה swore to your fathers, to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Ya‛aqoḇ, to give them.”

y many of us are still trapped in the ‘’religious ideas of Egypt’’ and all its gods and idols, found in the ancient religions such as Mithraic worship. This happened because Christianity soon abandoned its Hebraic roots and assimilated into various pagan influences. One of the most significant pagan influences came from an ancient religion called ‘’Mithraism’’.

‘’Mithraic worship was conducted secretly in caves by torchlight, so little is known of its precise rituals. (Sounds like Free Masonism) However, this ancient pagan religion arose again in the Roman Empire at the same time Christianity did, and church fathers such as Jerome and Origen commented on its parallels with Christianity.

Mithraism, the worship of Mithra, the Iranian god of the sun, justice, contract, and war in pre-Zoroastrian Iran. Known as Mithras in the Roman Empire during the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE, this deity was honoured as the patron of loyalty to the emperor’’.

It was believed by some that Mithras was born of a virgin called “the Mother of God.” He was conceived from the seed of Zoroaster (later called Zarathustra by the Greeks), which had been preserved in a lake. (water spirits) Mithras was considered to be the mediator between heaven and earth and was called “the light of the world.” Following a bloody, ritualistic baptism, celebrants would eat bread and drink wine that was said to have turned into blood. They also worshiped on Sunday and believed Mithras’ birthday to be December 25. Adherents taught that, after Mithras finished the work, he was sent to do, he ate a last supper with his followers and ascended into heaven, until such time as he was called upon to separate good from evil on the Day of Judgment.’’

This pagan religion emphasized the need of celibacy, a practice embraced by the early church was an attack on the Hebrew patriarchal family formation – ‘’Mithras was a chaste god, and his worshippers were taught reverence for celibacy (a convenient trait for soldiers to maintain). The spirit of camaraderie (and celibacy) was to be continued in the Roman Empire by the Christian belief’’

History teaches us that the Emperor of Rome combined these pagans and Christians to preserve and empower his empire. Today the assimilation is ‘’almost complete’’, except for a very small remnant.

Perhaps history will prove one day that the greatest and most brutal attacks on a ‘’very small faithful remnant’’ will come from ‘’religious people’’ from the so-called ‘’global household of faith’’ who will violently oppose those who expose the false religious ideas of men’s religions.

Mat 10:34  “Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword,[c]Footnote: cIn Luk_12:51 the word “division” is used, while “sword” has the same meaning here.

Mat 10:35  for I have come to bring division, a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law –

Mat 10:36  and a man’s enemies are those of his own household.[d] Mic_7:6. Footnote: dLuk_12:53, Mic_7:6

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
