This Torah portion gives an end time
generation, valuable prophetic insights into the closing events of this present
age.
History is His Story recounted for our
benefit.
‘’….For we shall all stand
before the judgment seat of Messiah….. Each one of us,
therefore, shall give account of himself to Elohim – (Rom 14:10,12)’’
Act 7:35 “This Mosheh whom they had refused,
saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’
Exo_2:14 – this one
Elohim sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Messenger who
appeared to him in the bush.
Act 7:36 “This one led them out, after
he had done wonders and signs in the land of Mitsrayim, and in the Red Sea, and
in the wilderness forty years.
Act 7:37 “This is the Mosheh who said
to the children of Yisra’ěl, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a
Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.’ Deu_18:15.
Joh 5:45 “Do not think that I shall
accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Mosheh, in whom you
have set your expectation.
Joh 5:46 “For if you believed Mosheh,
you would have believed Me, since he wrote about Me.
Joh 5:47 “But if you do not believe his
writings,c how shall you believe My words?” Footnote: c Luk_16:31.
2Co 3:15 But to this day, when Mosheh
is being read, a veil lies on their heart.
2Co 3:16 And when one turns to the
Master, the veil is taken away. Exo_34:34.
2Co 3:17 Now יהוה is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of יהוה is, there is freedom.
Jas 1:25 But he that looked into the
perfect Torah, that of freedom,d and continues in it, not becoming a hearer
that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of
the Torah. Footnote: dSee Jas_2:12.
Deu 31:1 And Mosheh went(vayelech) and spoke these
words to all Yisra’ĕl,
Vayelech – Strongs
1980 – ‘’halach’’ - to go, walk,
come, depart, proceed, move, go away; to die, live, manner of life (figuratively)
Moshe came to the end
of his life; his walk here on earth. These are some of Moshe’s last words.
Deu 31:2 and he
said to them, “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I am no longer able
to go out and come in. And יהוה
has said to me, ‘You do not pass over this Yardĕn.’
Deu 34:7 And
Mosheh was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim
nor his freshness gone.
Num 12:3 And the
man Mosheh was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the
earth.
Great leaders leave their followers both a spiritual and
a material inheritance and then go on to teach them from the Torah how to
protect and increase that inheritance.
Deu 31:3 “יהוה your Elohim
Himself is passing over before you. He shall destroy these nations from before
you and you possess them. Yehoshua himself is passing over before you, as יהוה has spoken.
Deu 31:4 “And יהוה shall do to
them as He did to Siḥon and to Oḡ, the sovereigns of the Amorites and their
land, when He destroyed them. (Giants over 3m tall)
Deu 31:5 “And יהוה shall give
them over to you, and you shall do to them according to all the command which I
have commanded you.
Deu 31:6 “Be
strong and courageous, do not fear nor be afraid of them. For it is יהוה your Elohim
who is going with you. He does not fail you nor forsake you.”
Deu 31:7 And
Mosheh called Yehoshua and said to him before the eyes of all Yisra’ĕl, “Be
strong and courageous, for you are going with this people to the land which יהוה has sworn to
their fathers to give them, and you are to let them inherit it.
Deu 31:8 “And it
is יהוה who is going before you, He Himself is with you. He does not
fail you nor forsake you. Do not fear nor be discouraged.”
Anointed leadership makes you more aware of YHVH’s
presence and ability than theirs. YHVH does not need a Jewish Zionist state to
help Him achieve His purpose for Israel – 1 Cor 1:27-31
Deu 31:9 And
Mosheh wrote this Torah and gave it to the priests, the sons of Lĕwi, who bore
the ark of the covenant of יהוה, and to all the elders of Yisra’ĕl.
Deu 31:10 And
Mosheh commanded them, saying, “At the end of seven years, at the appointed
time, the year of release, at the Festival of Booths,
Deu 31:11 when all
Yisra’ĕl comes to appear before יהוה your Elohim in
the place which He chooses, read this Torah before all Yisra’ĕl in their
hearing.
Deu 31:12
“Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and
your sojourner who is within your gates, so that they hear, and so that they
learn to fear יהוה your Elohim and guard to do all the Words of this Torah.
Deu 31:13 “And
their children, who have not known it, should hear and learn to fear יהוה your Elohim as
long as you live in the land you are passing over the Yardĕn to possess.”
Successful leaders (not perfect leaders) are those who
have learned to be faithful to other leaders. We see this in the case of
Yehoshua and Moshe. Sadly, the scriptures are full of examples of how leaders
led the people away from the Torah.
Deu 31:14 And יהוה
said to Mosheh, “See, the days have drawn near for you to die. Call Yehoshua,
and present yourselves in the Tent of Meeting, so that I command him.” And
Mosheh and Yehoshua went and presented themselves in the Tent of Meeting.
Haftarah: Good leaders
leave a legacy behind them.
1Ki 2:1 And the days of Dawiḏ drew near to die, and
he commanded Shelomoh his son, saying,
1Ki 2:2 “I am going the way of all the earth. And you
shall be strong, and be a man.
1Ki 2:3 “And guard the Charge of יהוה your Elohim: to walk in His ways, to guard His laws, His
commands, His right-rulings, and His witnesses, as it is written in the Torah
of Mosheh, so that you do wisely all that you do and wherever you turn;
Deu 31:15
And יהוה appeared at the Tent in a column of a
cloud, and the column of a cloud stood above the door of the Tent.
Deu 31:16
And יהוה said to Mosheh, “See, you are about to
sleep with your fathers. And this people shall rise and whore after the mighty
ones of the strangers of the land into the midst of which they shall enter, and
forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.
Deu 31:17
“Then My displeasure shall burn against them in that day, and I shall forsake them and hide My face from them,
and they shall be consumed. And many evils and distresses shall come upon them,
and it shall be said in that day,
‘Is it not because our Elohim is not in our midst that these evils have come
upon us?’
Deu 31:18
“And I shall certainly hide My face
in that day, because of all the evil which they have done, for they shall
turn to other mighty ones.
‘’What is particularly
important from our section this Shabbat, however, is a problem which the Sages
identified in our text, namely, that it appears that even when Israel repents, YHVH
is not willing to renew His presence among her (vv. 17-18). Even when Israel
admits that her troubles are the result of YHVH’s having left her alone, He
still is not willing to make His presence known. Because of this, Rashi has
called these verses the harshest of all prophesies’’ – Stones Chumash.
Zec 12:10 “And I shall pour on the house of
Dawiḏ and on the inhabitants of Yerushalayim a spirit of favour and prayers.
And they shall look on Me whom they pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as
one mourns for his only son. And they shall be in bitterness over Him as a
bitterness over the first-born.
Zec 12:11 “In that day the mourning in
Yerushalayim is going to be great – ( Pet 4:17,18)
This is the last time Moshe
appears in the tent of meeting or tabernacle. This last message (besides the
song) is a serious indictment against
Israel and her ongoing rebellion against YHVH and His Torah
Consider the seriousness of
this indictment against Israel – Moshe died around the year 1273 BCE. During
his entire life and even during and after the life on earth of Messiah who
came, up to this present moment – Israel and the entire world remains for the
most part rebellious and disobedient to YHVH – His Messiah and His Torah.
Deu 31:19
“And now write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the
children of Yisra’ĕl. Put it in their mouths, so that this song is to Me for a
witness against the children of Yisra’ĕl.
Deu 31:20
“And I shall bring them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of
which I swore to their fathers, and they shall eat and be satisfied and be fat,
then they shall turn to other mighty ones, and they shall serve them, and scorn
Me and break My covenant.
Deu 31:21
“And it shall be, when many evils and distresses come upon them, that
this song shall answer before them as a witness. For it is not to be forgotten
in the mouths of their seed, for I know their thoughts which they are forming
today, even before I bring them to the land of which I swore to give them.”
Deu 31:22
And Mosheh wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children
of Yisra’ĕl.
Deu 31:23
And He commanded Yehoshua son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and
courageous, for you are to bring the children of Yisra’ĕl into the land of
which I swore to them, and I Myself am with you.”
Deu 31:24
And it came to be, when Mosheh had completed writing the Words of this
Torah in a book, until their completion,
Deu 31:25
that Mosheh commanded the Lĕwites, who bore the ark of the covenant of יהוה, saying,
Deu 31:26
“Take this Book of the Torah, and you shall place it beside the ark of
the covenant of יהוה your Elohim, and it shall be there as a
witness against you,
Deu 31:27
for I myself know your rebellion and your stiff neck. See, while I am
still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against יהוה, then how much more after my death?
Deu 31:28
“Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, so
that I speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to
witness against them.
Deu 31:29
“For I know that after my death you shall do very corruptly(‘’hashchet tashchitun’’)
and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you. And evil shall come to
you in the latter days, because you do what is evil in the eyes of יהוה, to provoke Him through the work of your hands.”
Deu 31:30 So
Mosheh spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Yisra’ĕl the words of this
song till their completion:
“The remnant is a recurring theme throughout the scriptures. The Anchor Bible
Dictionary describes it as "What is left of a community
after it undergoes a catastrophe". These are the most important group of
people on earth because they are the focus of YHVH’s attention and protection
in these last days and the only hope for those people who remain after YHVH’s
judgement.
Rom 11:5 So therefore also, at this present time a
remnant according to the choice of favour has come to be.
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman,
and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands
of Elohim and possessing the witness of יהושע
Messiah.
Rev 3:7 “And to the messenger of the assembly in
Philadelphia write, ‘He who is set-apart, He who is true, He who has the key of
Dawiḏ, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens, says this:
Rev 3:8 “I know your works – see, I have set before
you an open door, and no one is able to shut it – that you have little power,
yet have guarded My Word, and have not denied My Name.
Rev 3:9 “See, I am giving up those of the
congregation of Satan, who say they are Yehuḏim and are not, but lie. See, I
am making them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved
you.
Rev 3:10 “Because you have guarded My Word of
endurance, I also shall guard you from the hour of trial which shall come upon
all the world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
1Co
10:1 For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers
were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
1Co
10:2 and all were immersed into Mosheh in the cloud and in the sea,
1Co
10:3 and all ate the same spiritual food,
1Co
10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that
spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.
1Co
10:5 However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they
were laid low in the wilderness.
1Co
10:6 And these became examples for us, so that we should not lust after
evil, as those indeed lusted.
1Co
10:7 And do not become idolaters as some of them, as it has been written,
“The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play.” Exo_32:6.
1Co
10:8 Neither should we commit whoring, as some of them did, and in one
day twenty-three thousand fell,
1Co
10:9 neither let us try Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were
destroyed by serpents,
1Co
10:10 neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed
by the destroyer.
1Co
10:11 And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as
a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,
1Co
10:12 so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he
fall.
1Co
10:13 No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, and
Elohim is trustworthy, who shall not allow you to be tried beyond what you are
able, but with the trial shall also make the way of escape, enabling you to
bear it.
1Co
10:14 Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.
1Co
10:15 I speak as to wise men, judge for yourselves what I say.
Idolatry
