Parashat 34 Portion 98 Bmidbar 2:14-3:13 Yesh 8:18-22 Yoh 6:26-51

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

This Torah portion ‘’bemidbar’’ or ‘’in the wilderness’’ has a prophetic message for us in the present world -yhe wide epidemic and the consequent economic and social crisis’s many face in our time.

One of the trending social media topics addresses the issue of a so-called ‘’new world order’’.

This Torah portion establishes YHVH’s ancient world order for those He has called out and set-apart for Himself.

Isa 8:17  And I shall wait on יהוה, who hides His face from the house of Ya‛aqoḇ. And I shall look for Him.

Isa 8:18  Look, I and the children whom יהוה has given me – for signs and wonders in Yisra’ěl from יהוה of hosts, who dwells in Mount Tsiyon.

Isa 8:19  And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their Elohim? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?

Isa 8:20  To the Torah and to the witness! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because they have no daybreak.a Footnote: aOr light.

Isa 8:22  And they shall look to the earth and see distress and darkness, gloom of hard times, and be driven into thick darkness.

Isa 8:11  For יהוה spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

Isa 8:12  “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.

Isa 8:13  “יהוה of hosts, Him you shall set apart. Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.

Parashat 34 Portion 97 Bemidbar – Numbers 1:1-2:13 Ezek 47:13-23 Luke 15:1-7

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.

The title of this portion “Bemidbar”- wilderness, is also associated with two other Hebrew words “devar” to speak and “davar” a word. This then can also be understood to mean “a word in the wilderness” This meaning is poignantly revealed as YHVH ushers His bride into the wilderness.

Could it be that YHVH will once again call His beloved bride into the wilderness to establish covenant faithfulness once again?

MessageTranslation:

Hos 2:14  "And now, here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to start all over again. I'm taking her back out into the wilderness where we had our first date, and I'll court her.

Hos 2:15  I'll give her bouquets of roses. I'll turn Heartbreak Valley into Acres of Hope. She'll respond like she did as a young girl, those days when she was fresh out of Egypt.

Hos 2:16  "At that time"--this is YHVH’s Message still-- "you'll address me, 'Dear husband!' Never again will you address me, 'My slave-master!'

Hos 2:17  I'll wash your mouth out with soap, get rid of all the dirty false-god names, not so much as a whisper of those names again. (like the days of the week named after false deities- emphasis mine)

Hos 2:18  At the same time I'll make a peace treaty between you and wild animals and birds and reptiles, And get rid of all weapons of war. Think of it! Safe from beasts and bullies!

Hos 2:19  And then I'll marry you for good--forever! I'll marry you true and proper, in love and tenderness.

Hos 2:20  Yes, I'll marry you and neither leave you nor let you go. You'll know me, YHVH, for who I really am.

YHVH keeps a registry of His Bride.

A Good Shepherd always counts His sheep, hear again the words of our Messiah:

Joh 10:4  “And when he has brought out his own sheep, he goes before them. And the sheep follow him, because they know his voice (even those who lived in the world before Yahshua was born).

Joh 10:11  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

Joh 10:16  “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold – I have to bring them as well, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one flock, one shepherd.1 Footnote: 1Ezek. 34:23, Ezek. 37:24.

Joh 10:27  “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.1 Footnote: 1Rev. 14:4-5.

Joh 10:28  “And I give them everlasting life, and they shall by no means ever perish, and no one shall snatch them out of My hand.

Joh 10:29  “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

Num 1:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh in the Wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Mitsrayim, saying,

Num 1:2  “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head,

Num 1:3  from twenty years old and above, everyone going out to the army in Yisra’ĕl. Number them by their divisions, you and Aharon.

This book of the Torah Bamidbar is about YHVH calling and counting His bride to be. This counting or taking of census is expressed in a rather strange Hebrew idiom viz “to count the skulls” see Num 1:2  “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head (gulguletam)

The Hebrew word for head here is “skulls” or “gulgoleth” Strongs 1538. This is where we get the word “Golgotha” - The message is unchanging forever “only in Messiah can we be counted”

Joh 19:17  And bearing His stake, He went out to the so-called Place of a Skull, which is called in Heḇrew, Golgotha,

Joh 19:18  where they impaled Him, and two others with Him.

Num 1:4  “And a man from every tribe should be with you, each one the head of his father’s house.

Num 1:5  “And these are the names of the men who stand with you. From Re’uḇĕn: Elitsur, son of Sheḏĕy’ur.

Note that now the mixed multitude who had left Egypt with them have now been counted in with the tribes of Israel as they are no longer mentioned as a separate group.

Note the profound prophecy of Ezekiel concerning those of us who are grafted into Israel.

Eze 47:22  “And it shall be that you divide it by lot as an inheritance for yourselves, and for the strangers who sojourn in your midst and who bear children among you. And they shall be to you as native-born among the children of Yisra’ĕl – with you they have an inheritance in the midst of the tribes of Yisra’ĕl1. Footnote: 1Isa. 14:1, Isa. 56:6-8, Rom. 11:17-26, Eph. 2:19, Eph. 3:6, Rev. 21:12.

Midrash End Time Remnant:

Possible three counting’s (census) those who are in Messiah, those who obey (Num 26)and those who persevere. (Book of revelation)

The Seven Seals are the first set of judgments. The seals provide an overview of the terrors that will occur in the Tribulation period. The description of the Tribulation period begins in chapter 6 and ends in chapter 19. The first six seals are described in Revelation 6:1-17. The first seal describes peace which corresponds to the first 3.5 years of the tribulation (Daniel 9:27; 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3). The remaining seals describe the general punishments that will occur during the last part of the tribulation. The seventh seal is mentioned in Revelation 8:1, but it telescopes into the seven trumpets.

Seven Seals of Revelation

Rev 7:1  And after this I saw four messengers standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

Rev 7:2  And I saw another messenger coming up from the rising of the sun, holding the seal of the living Elohim. And he cried with a loud voice to the four messengers to whom it was given to harm the earth and the sea,

Rev 7:3  saying, “Do not harm the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees until we have sealed the servants of our Elohim upon their foreheads.”a Footnote: aSee Rev_9:4, Rev_14:1, Rev_22:4

Rev 7:4  And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of all the tribes of the children of Yisra’ěl:

Rev 7:5  of the tribe of Yehuḏah twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Re’uḇěn twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Gaḏ twelve thousand were sealed,

Rev 7:6  of the tribe of Ashěr twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Menashsheh twelve thousand were sealed,

Rev 7:7  of the tribe of Shim‛on twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Lěwi twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Yissasḵar twelve thousand were sealed,

Rev 7:8  of the tribe of Zeḇulun twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Yosěph twelve thousand were sealed, of the tribe of Binyamin twelve thousand were sealed.

See Rev 12 there will be 42 months where the remnant flees into wilderness and most probably are counted.

The Seven Trumpets

The seventh seal telescopes into the Seven Trumpets. The first six trumpets occur in Revelation 8:1-9:21. The first four trumpets describe a series of specific judgments on the earth and the last two trumpets describe the release of demonic forces upon the earth.

The Seven Bowls

The seventh sign telescopes into the seven bowls (Revelation 15:1, 7). The first six bowls occur in Revelation 15:1-19:21. They describe horrible plagues that occur on the planet, the universe, animals and human life. The final bowl is the battle of Armageddon.

This portion is also known as the “tochacha” or solemn warning. “Tochacha” comes from the word “hochacha” which can mean “proof.” The inhabitants of this world may soon witness the proof of ignoring YHVH’s Torah. Ignoring YHVH’s Torah is equal to ignoring YHVH’s Messiah. The most severe judgment imaginable are about to come upon mankind because the Torah of YHVH and His Messiah - Yahshua have been

misrepresented or ignored.

Haftarah: Jeremiah 16:19-17:14

Our haftarah portion reminds us that we have inherited folly from our fathers.

Jer 16:19  O יהוה, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value (benefit) in them.”1 Footnote: 1See Ps. 147:19, Isa. 2:3, Isa. 60:2-3, John 4:22, Rom. 2:20, Rom. 3:2, Rom. 9:4. Zech 8:23

Lev 26:3  ‘If you walk in My laws and guard My commands, and shall do them,

Vs 3 in the Hebrew reads: “if in my statutes (bechukatai) you will walk and my commandments (mitzvoth) you will guard (shamar) and will do them (asah)

Remember a “chuk” or statute is something which is to be engraved in our hearts and minds. We obey these statutes but do not always understand exactly what they mean, for example the appointments found in Vayikra/Leviticus 23 where we find the words “chukat olam” is used four times – this is a statute forever – In fact some 12 times this phrase is repeated in the Torah. (these “chukot” are forever, they are merely ceremonial)

Lev 26:4  then I shall give you rain in its season, and the land shall yield its crops, and the trees of the field yield their fruit.

Lev 26:5  ‘And your threshing shall last till the time of the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last till the time of sowing. And you shall eat your bread until you have enough and shall dwell in your land safely.

Lev 26:6  ‘And I shall give peace in the land, and you shall lie down and no one make you afraid. And I shall clear the land of evil beasts,(chayah rahah) and not let the sword go through your land.

Lev 26:7  ‘And you shall pursue your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you.

Lev 26:8  ‘And five of you shall pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you pursue ten thousand. And your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.

Lev 26:9  ‘And I shall turn to you and make you bear fruit, and shall increase you, and shall establish My covenant with you.

Lev 26:10  ‘And you shall eat the old supply, and clear out the old because of the new.

Lev 26:11  ‘And I shall set My Dwelling Place in your midst, and My being shall not reject you.

Lev 26:12  ‘And I shall walk in your midst, and shall be your Elohim, and you shall be My people.

Lev 26:13  ‘I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, from being their slaves. And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk upright.

Lev 26:14  ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not do all these commands,

Lev 26:15  and if you reject My laws,(be chukatai) or if your being loathes My right-rulings, so that you do not do all My commands, but break My covenant, (note YHVH is addressing His people and history is the “tochacha” the proof)

Lev 26:16  I also do this to you: And I shall appoint sudden alarm (anxiety) over you, wasting disease (of the lungs) and inflammation,(auto immune diseases from exhaustion) destroying the eyes, and consuming the life.(our ‘’nefesh’’ or being will pine away – overwhelmed with grief and stress) And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. We have little sense of our own personal liability for the mess the world is in. I think this is more tragic than the mess itself.

How is this remedied? Only by His severe chastisement. Maybe for this reason we suffer an underlying and suppressed fear and anxiety of impending judgment that is about to come on the whole world. For many the best way to deal with this dilemma is to blame everybody else but ourselves for the mess we find ourselves in.

We have grieved the Ruach for so long – How can we find our way back. How do find ‘’teshuvah’’

What is the answer?

Php 2:5  For, let this mind be in you which was also in Messiah יהושע

Php 2:6  who, being in the form of Elohim, did not regard equality with Elohim a matter to be grasped,

There remains  a suffering and purging of this present world that no one can escape

Now the Torah speaks of a specific kind of vow called an “erech” or valuation. This vow involves the inherent “set apartness” of an object or person. So, the book of Vayikra ends as it opened, with a chapter of regulations regarding offerings brought to YHVH’s House and the functioning of the ministry of the Levites. Perhaps this was intended to assure that no one party or individual could exercise influence due to larger contributions. This would ensure an effective ministry of YHVH’s House and its priesthood to all nations and peoples.

Lev 27:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Lev 27:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and say to them, ‘When a man separates a vow, by your evaluation of lives unto יהוה,

Literal Hebrew – ‘speak to the children of Israel and say to them – a man who makes an extraordinary (or amazing) promise in valuing souls to YHVH’’ (valuation supposes either redemption or purchase)

Was this a redemptive act? Was this ‘’ish’’ or man a kind of ‘’kinsman redeemer’’ not only redeeming fellow human beings in need of redemption but also property and animals that belonged to them because they   had come into some form of poverty. This ‘’ish’’ was willing to lay down his life and pay for the mistakes of his fellow brothers and sisters and save them and their property from the harsh treatment of slave owners.

The book of ‘’Vayikra’’ begins with the various animal offerings and ends when the ‘’ish’’ the man himself is willing to be the offering unto YHVH.

Lev 27:21  but the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, is set-apart to יהוה as a dedicated field, to be the possession of the priest.

Lev 27:22  ‘And if a man sets apart to יהוה a field which he has bought, which is not the field of his possession,

Lev 27:23  then the priest shall reckon to him the amount of your evaluation, up to the Year of Jubilee, and he shall give your evaluation on that day, set-apart to יהוה.

Lev 27:27  ‘And if among the unclean beasts, then he shall ransom it according to your evaluation, and shall add one-fifth to it. And if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your evaluation.

Lev 27:28  ‘However, whatever a man lays under ban for יהוה of all that he has, man and beast, or the field of his possession, is not sold or redeemed. Whatever is laid under ban is most set-apart to יהוה.

Lev 27:29  ‘No one under the ban, under the ban among men, is ransomed, but shall certainly be put to death.

Lev 27:30  ‘And all the tithe of the land – of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree – belongs to יהוה. It is set-apart to יהוה.

Lev 27:31  ‘If a man indeed redeems any of his tithes, he adds one-fifth to it.

Lev 27:32  ‘And the entire tithe of the herd and of the flock, all that passes under the rod, the tenth one is set-apart to יהוה.

Lev 27:33  ‘He does not inquire whether it is good or spoilt, nor does he exchange it. And if he exchanges it at all, then both it and the one exchanged for it are set-apart, it is not redeemed.’ ”

Lev 27:34  These are the commands which יהוה commanded Mosheh for the children of Yisra’ĕl on Mount Sinai.

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”
