Parashat 2 Portion 5 ‘’Noach’’ Gen 8:1-22 Hab 3:2-10,19

Blessed are You, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the universe, who set us apart us with Your commandments and have given to us Yeshua the Messiah, the Living Torah.

The Sages often draw parallels between Noah’s waiting in the ark and the future waiting before the Geulah (redemption) and the Yemot HaMashiach (Messianic age). The Flood story becomes a template for understanding how humanity should prepare for a radically renewed world.

Just as Noah had to wait, test, and receive a divine sign before leaving the ark, so too we are in a period of preparation and transition before the Messianic age.

(Sanhedrin 97b) says we cannot “force the end.” Redemption has its own divinely appointed time. Our role is patience and preparation, not trying to break the process prematurely.

ויזכר אלהים את־נח – YHVH remembered Noah (and us) in our time of transition.

YHVH has not forgotten us in this time of transition. We don’t have to perform we need to wait.

 Isa 40:30  Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men stumble and fall, 

Isa 40:31  but those who wait on יהוה renew their strength, they raise up the wing like eagles, they run and are not weary, they walk and do not faint. 

 The Flood Subsides

Gen 8:1 And Elohim remembered Noa, and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. And Elohim made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. 

 Genesis Rabbah 33:4 teaches that YHVH did not dry the waters instantly, but let them decrease little by little, showing that YHVH’s mercy works in measured stages.

This became a lesson: YHVH does not overwhelm creation with sudden change but restores it gradually. (like birth pains for His people, but sudden destruction for others)

 The sending of the ruach (wind/spirit) was the first sign that judgment was ending and restoration was beginning.

Joe 2:28  “And after this it shall be that I pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men dream dreams, your young men see visions. 

 Mat 24:13  “But he who shall have endured to the end shall be saved.a Footnote: aSee Mat_10:22

Mat 24:14  “And this Good News of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come. (maybe a much different gospel than what many have heard)

 Gen 8:2 And the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were stopped, and the rain from the heavens was withheld. 

 Rev 11:6 tell us that during the last 31/2 year great tribulation no rain will fall on earth. Yet the prophet says the overwhelming hunger and thirst will be to hear the Word of YHVH - Amos 8:11  “See, days are coming,” declares the Master יהוה, “that I shall send a hunger in the land, not a hunger for bread, nor a thirst for water, but for hearing the Words of יהוה. Amo 8:12  “And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east – they shall diligently search, seeking the Word of יהוה, but they shall not find it.

 Gen 8:3 And the waters receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters diminished. 

Gen 8:4 And in the seventh new moon, the seventeenth day of the new moon, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. Gen 7:11

Gen 8:5 And the waters decreased steadily until the tenth new moon. In the tenth new moon, on the first day of the new moon, the tops of the mountains became visible. 

Gen 8:6 And it came to be, at the end of forty days, that Noa opened the window of the ark which he had made, 

 

The window serves as a ‘’Revelation’’ to our transition from this world to the next.

 

Gen 8:7 and he sent out a raven, which kept going out and turning back until the waters had dried up from the earth. 

 

Spiritual lesson: the ‘’raven’’ (ערב) an unclean animal feeding on dead corpses. Nothing contaminated (‘’shachats’’) will be allowed to enter the ark – dwelling of YHVH’s people again.

 

Gen 8:8 Then he sent out a dove from him, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. 

Gen 8:9 But the dove found no resting place for its feet and returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of all the earth. So, he put out his hand and took it and pulled it into the ark to himself. 

Gen 8:10 And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. 

Gen 8:11 And the dove came to him in the evening, and see, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in its mouth. And Noa knew that the waters had receded from the earth. 

Gen 8:12 And he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return to him again. 

 

Spiritual lesson: the dove with the olive leaf reveals a powerful mystery of Messiah dwelling within the midst of His people. Isa 61:1  The Spirit (dove) of the Master יהוה is upon Me, because יהוה has anointed Me (olive branch) to bring good news to the meek –

The prophecy continues to elaborate on what happens when this Messiah dwells amongst His people: (this is why we wait for Him, instead of sending out stupid little videos that the rapture is about to take place)

He has sent Me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound, 

Isa 61:2  to proclaim the acceptable year of יהוה, and the day of vengeance of our Elohim, to comfort all who mourn, (a people in transition do the same while they wait for Him)

Isa 61:3  to appoint unto those who mourn in Tsiyon: to give them embellishment for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. And they shall be called trees of righteousness, a planting of יהוה, to be adorned.

Isa 61:4  And they shall rebuild the old ruins, raise up the former wastes. And they shall restore the ruined cities, the wastes of many generations. 

Isa 61:5  And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the foreigner be your ploughmen and your vinedressers. 

Isa 61:6  But you shall be called, ‘Priests of יהוה,’ ‘Servants of our Elohim’ shall be said of you. You shall consume the strength of the nations, and boast in their esteem. 

Isa 61:7  Instead of your shame and reproach, they rejoice a second time in their portion. Therefore they take possession a second time in their land, everlasting joy is theirs. 

Isa 61:8  “For I, יהוה, love right-ruling; I hate robbery for ascending offering. And I shall give their reward in truth, and make an everlasting covenant with them. 

Isa 61:9  “And their seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples. All who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed יהוה has blessed.” 

Isa 61:10  I greatly rejoice in יהוה, my being exults in my Elohim. For He has put garments of deliverance on me, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 

Isa 61:11  For as the earth brings forth its bud, as the garden causes the seed to shoot up, so the Master יהוה causes righteousness and praise to shoot up before all the nations! 

 

Gen 8:13 And it came to be in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the new moon, that the waters were dried up from the earth. And Noa removed the covering of the ark and looked and saw the surface of the ground was dry. 

Gen 8:14 And in the second new moon, on the twenty-seventh day of the new moon, the earth was dry. 

Gen 8:15 And Elohim spoke to Noa, saying, 

Gen 8:16 “Go out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 

Gen 8:17 “Bring out with you every life form of all flesh that is with you: of birds, of cattle and all creeping creatures – the creeping creatures on the earth. And let them teem on the earth, and bear and increase on the earth.” 

Gen 8:18 So Noa went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him, 

Gen 8:19 every beast, every creeping creature, and every bird, whatever creeps on the earth, according to their kinds, went out of the ark.

The Flood story is therefore tied to Tishrei-based months in Genesis, but can also be re-read through the Nisan-based calendar for symbolic links (e.g., to Passover and Firstfruits).

 

Entered Ark / Flood began: Year 600, Month 2, Day 17.

Exited Ark / Earth fully dry: Year 601, Month 2, Day 27.

That’s 1 year and 10 days inside the ark.

 

The year in the ark was a long test of patience, faith, and trust, with no certainty of what awaited outside.

The parallels are striking in both cases, a faithful remnant endures judgment, is preserved by YHVH, separated from corruption, and emerges into a covenantal renewal where creation is restored to harmony. The story of Noah becomes a spiritual blueprint for how the faithful should wait, prepare, and hope for the Messianic kingdom.

 

YHVH's Covenant with Noah

Gen 8:20 And Noa built a slaughter-place to יהוה and took of every clean beast and of every clean bird and offered ascending offerings on the slaughter-place. 

Gen 8:21 And יהוה smelled a soothing fragrance, and יהוה said in His heart, “Never again shall I curse the ground because of man, although the inclination of man’s heart is evil from his youth, and never again strike all living creatures, as I have done, 

Gen 8:22 as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” 

 

After the Flood, YHVH made a covenant with Noah, symbolized by the rainbow. The Flood was not just destruction but a cosmic reset, a chance for creation to begin anew with righteousness as its foundation. So, it shall be again at in the last days.

The messianic era is likewise described as a renewal of creation (tikkun olam), when the world is restored to its intended harmony (Isaiah 11:6–9: wolf dwelling with the lamb, universal knowledge of God).

Additional Midrash:

One of the reasons the remnant of YHVH is so small is that very few of His people are willing to endure the ‘’pain’’ of change.

In this regard I am deeply grateful for the teachings and ministry of Bob Mumord. One of his central themes in later years was “transitioning” — how YHVH moves His people from one season, stage, or way of thinking into another. 

Core Themes in Mumford’s Teaching on Transition

·          Life with YHVH is not static; He moves us through seasons of growth, pruning, testing, and renewal.

 

·         Transition often comes when one season ends and another begins, even if we don’t

feel “ready.”

2. The Wilderness Principle

  • Like Israel leaving Egypt and heading to the Promised Land, transitions often involve a wilderness period — uncomfortable, disorienting, but necessary.
  • Mumford would say: Don’t fight the wilderness;(transition) let YHVH use it to reshape (and prepare) you.

3. Dying to the Old

  • Transition means letting go of what worked before.
  • Old methods, old securities, even old ways of thinking have to be surrendered before we can enter the new.
  • This feels like loss, but it’s preparation for increase.

4. Trusting YHVH’s Timing

  • One of Mumford’s big lessons: YHVH is never late, but He’s seldom early.
  • Transitions often feel delayed, but they unfold in YHVH’s perfect timing, not ours.

5. Relational Anchoring

  • He stressed that covenantal relationships (spiritual family, discipleship, accountability) help us navigate transitions.
  • Isolation during transition is dangerous; community is part of God’s safety net.

6. From Doing to Being

  • A major transition in the Believers life is moving from a performance-based faith to resting in sonship.
  • Mumford often framed transition as a shift from trying harder to trusting deeper.

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who gave us the Torah of truth and eternal life in Yeshua the Messiah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.

Yom Ha Kippurim 2025

Lev 16:29  “And this shall be for you a law forever: In the seventh new moon, on the tenth day of the new moon, you afflict your beings, and do no work, the native or the stranger who sojourns among you. 

Lev 16:30  “For on that day he makes atonement for you, to cleanse you, to be clean from all your sins before יהוה

Lev 16:31  “It is a Sabbath of rest for you, and you shall afflict your beings – a law forever. 

Lev 16:32  “And the priest, who is anointed and ordained to serve as priest in his father’s place, shall make atonement, and shall put on the linen garments, the set-apart garments, 

Lev 16:33  and he shall make atonement for the Most Set-apart Place, and make atonement for the Tent of Appointment and for the slaughter-place, and make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly. 

Lev 16:34  “And this shall be for you a law forever, to make atonement for the children of Yisra’ěl, for all their sins, once a year.” And he did as יהוה commanded Mosheh. 

 

So, why do we even have a Yom Kippur?

 

Hasn’t the Messiah taken away the need of this appointment?

 

Heb 8:1  Now the summary of what we are saying is: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Greatness in the heavens, 

Heb 8:2  and who serves in the set-apart place and of the true Tent, which יהוה set up, and not man. 

Heb 8:3  For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and slaughters. So it was also necessary for this One to have somewhat to offer. 

Heb 8:4  For if indeed He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the Torah, 

Heb 8:5  who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly, as Mosheh was warned when he was about to make the Tent. For He said, “See that you make all according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” Exo_25:40

Heb 8:6  But now He has obtained a more excellent service, inasmuch as He is also Mediatora of a better covenant, which was constituted on better promises. Footnote: aMessiah is called the Mediator of the New (Renewed) Covenant in Hebrews, in three places: Heb_8:6, Heb_9:15, Heb_12:24

Heb 8:7  For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.  (Referring to the Tabernacles set apart place and the most set apart place.)

 

Note the word ‘’covenant’’ is written in italics because it was not included in the manuscript. Why? The first and second do not refer to the ‘’old and new covenants’’ but to the division of the Tabernacle – See Heb 10:9  Then he says, "See, I have come to do your will." He takes away (Gk ‘’uplifts’’ ἀναιρέω) the first in order to establish the second. (Just read the context in Heb 8 and 9.) In other words YHVH exalts the ministry of the first or front part of the Tabernacle to magnify the Most set apart place. Only a called out priestly nation of Hebrew Israelites will be shown and will embrace this truth to be a light to all nations. 1Pet 2:9

 

The difference between the old and renewed covenant is that the renewed covenant will never be broken again. Jer 31:31  “See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall make a renewed covenant with the house of Yisra’ěl and with the house of Yehuah,a Footnote: a Heb_8:8-12, Heb_10:16-17

Jer 31:32  not like the covenant I made with their fathers in the day when I strengthenedb their hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares יהוה. Footnote: bCommonly understood as “take hold of.” 

Jer 31:33  “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ěl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people. 

 

This is huge. The Torah is relevant until the end of the Messianic age to ALL the redeemed.

 

The Earthly Holy Place

Heb 9:1  Now the first covenant indeed had regulations of worship and the earthly set-apart place. 

Heb 9:2  For a Tent was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, and the table, and the showbread, which is called the Set-apart Place. 

Heb 9:3  And after the second veil, the part of the Tent which is called Most Set-apart, 

Heb 9:4  to which belonged (χουσα)  the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that held the manna, and the rod of Aharon that budded, and the tablets of the covenant, 

 

Greek nuance — “having” (χουσα) ≠ “containing”

·         The word χουσα means “having/associated with”, not necessarily “located inside.”

·         In other words, the Holy of Holies “had” the altar of incense because of its function (its smoke went inside on Yom Kippur), not because it physically stood there.

 

Heb 9:5  and above it the keruim of esteem were overshadowing the place of atonement – about which we do not now speak in detail. 

Heb 9:6  And these having been prepared like this, the priests always went into the first part of the Tent, accomplishing the services. 

Heb 9:7  But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for sins of ignorance of the people,a Footnote: a Num_15:15-28

Heb 9:8  the Set-apart Spirit signifying this, that the way into the Most Set-apart Place was not yet made manifest while the first Tent has a standing, 

Heb 9:9  which was a parable for the present time in which both gifts and slaughters are offered which are unable to perfect the one serving, as to his conscience, 

Heb 9:10  only as to foods and drinks, and different washings, and fleshly regulations imposed until a time of setting matters straight. 

 

We have come to that time of year again – Yom Kippur - when we take some time out, afflict our beings and seriously reflect on who and what is controlling our lives.

On this day - A gate is opened in the spiritual realm, and many truth seekers strive and deeply desire to connect more deeply with their Creator and to have all obstacles removed from their lives that hinders covenant life with YHVH and our fellow man.

Yes, we must bring words (not empty words) to our Maker - Hos 14:1  O Yisra’ěl, return to יהוה your Elohim, for you have stumbled by your crookedness. Hos 14:2  Take words with you, and return to יהוה. Say to Him, “Take away all crookedness, and accept what is good,(sincere confession) and we render the bulls of our lips.a Footnote: a Heb_13:15 - bulls, referring to offerings.

שָׂא עָוֹן” (sa avon) → “bear/lift/forgive iniquity.” Asking YHVH to carry away guilt.

וְקַח טוֹב” (veqach tov) → “accept good” → not material sacrifice, but sincere repentance.

וּנְשַׁלְּמָה פָרִים שְׂפָתֵינוּ” (uneshalem parim sefateinu) → literally, “we will repay bulls with our lips.” ‘’We will worship in deep gratitude’’ We want to bring to You words and confessions that are real – that will cause You to listen and respond favourably to us.

What kind of words?

Then his son told him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and you. I don't deserve to be called your son anymore.' (this was not some kind of prepared theological speech – it was raw and came from his heart)

Luk 15:22  But the father told his servants, 'Hurry! Bring out the best robe and put it on him and put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 

Luk 15:23  Bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let's eat and celebrate!

In the above video Jewish Messianic leaders warn of getting caught up in certain Jewish traditions. They refer to in Lev 16 about the instructions regarding Yom Kippur and point out that most of these instructions were directed to the priests, particularly the High priest. There are very few instructions given to the people during Yom Kippur. The people humbled themselves and were guided by the High priest on this most set apart day. A righteous High priest would not condemn them in their sin – he would have pointed the people to the Messiah, the future High priest who would bear the burden of their sin and eventually remove it all together.

So, what does one honestly say on Yom Kippur?

‘’Father I’ve messed up big time (be specific) and I am in a mess, and I don’t know how to get out of and keep out of my mess and the mess of others around me. Do you think You can help someone like me?’’

YHVH responds by saying ‘’I have appointed this day, Yom ha kippurim’’ to remind you and the universe that I have taken care of your problem and on this day if you listen carefully, you will know that I am waiting for you - Luk 15:22  But the father told his servants, 'Hurry! Bring out the best robe and put it on him/her and put a ring on his/her finger and sandals on his/her feet. Luk 15:23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let's eat and celebrate! 

Now, Yom Kippur is that one day in the year, when a portal opens in the spiritual realm and YHVH connects with us to comfort and assure us - Isa 1:18  "Come now, and let us reason together,” says יהוה. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isa 1:19  “If you submit and obey, you shall eat the good of the land; Isa 1:20  but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword,” for the mouth of יהוה has spoken. 

Let us remember that our Apostolic writings clearly define sin as transgressing YHVH’s Torah.

1Jn 3:4  Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. (or Torahlessness)

VIDUY / vih-DOO-ee or CONFESSION

Leader: Our Elohim and the Elohim of our forefathers may our prayer come before You.

 We don’t like to face our sinful condition, but today we believe You have a set apart appointment with each one of us and without any condemnation You are inviting and showing us a way back into Your Presence.

Father, we recognize that we are living in a very critical time and that our destinies will soon be determined by Your Mercy.

Messianic Yom Kippur Haggadah

We have abused, we have betrayed, we have been cruel.

We have destroyed and embittered other people’s lives.

We were false to ourselves.

We have gossiped about others and hated them.

We have insulted and jeered.

We have killed with our words.

We have lied.

We have misled others and neglect them.

We were obstinate.

We have perverted and quarrelled.

We have robbed and stolen.

We have transgressed through unkindness.

We have been both violent and weak.

We have practiced extortion.

We have yielded to wrong desires, misplaced our zeal.

 

Please forgive us Father as we forgive others that have done these things against us.

Father please be merciful to us.

Father, we desire to please You in all things.

We thank you Father - Eph 3:20 And to Him who is able to do exceedingly above what we ask or think, according to the power that is working in us, Eph 3:21 to Him be esteem in the assembly by Messiah יהושע unto all generations, for ever and ever. Aměn.
