This portion is about the genealogy of the second census – of the survivors.
Portion 134
Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, You have set us apart by Your commandments and have commanded us to actively study Your Torah. Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May You open our eyes to see marvellous truths from Your Torah. Thank You for calling us who were once gentiles excluded from the citizenship of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise having no expectation and without Elohim- but now through the blood of Messiah we have gained access into the covenant and have obtained citizenship into the commonwealth of Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Amein
Last
week we spoke about the ‘’unthinkable’’ that was about to happen (and is
presently actually happening) – what is our response meant to be?
We must
embrace it – because this too comes
from the Hand of YHVH.
We must
pay close attention to the words of the Hebrew prophet called ‘’Embrace’’ (châbaq to embrace or firmly clasp)
Hab 1:1 The
message which the prophet Ḥaḇaqquq saw.
Habakkuk's Complaint
Hab 1:2 O יהוה, till when shall I cry, and You not hear?
I cry to You, “Violence!” (‘’chamas’’ x6) and You do not save. Hab
1:3 Why do You show me wickedness, and cause me to see perversity? For
ruin and violence are before me. And there is strife, and contention
arises. Hab 1:4 Therefore the Torah ceases, and right-ruling never
goes forth. For the wrong hem in the righteous, so that right-ruling comes out
twisted.
Elohim's Answer
Hab 1:5 “Look among the nations and see, and be
amazed, be amazed! (תּמהּ to be astounded, be stunned, be amazed, be
dumbfounded)
For a work is being wrought in your days which you would not believe if it were
told. (and we must embrace this too, for similar events will face an end
time generation)
Hab 1:6 “See, I am raising up the Kasdim, (the ancient name of a country of Asia bordering on
the Persian Gulf. Chaldea proper was the southern part of Babylonia) a bitter
and hasty nation, who is going through the breadth of the earth, to possess
dwelling places that are not theirs. (expropriation without compensation)
Hab 1:7 “They are frightening and fearsome, their right-ruling and their exaltation proceed from themselves. Hab 1:8 “Their horses shall be swifter than leopards, and more fierce than evening wolves. And their horsemen shall charge ahead, and their horsemen come from afar. They fly as the eagle, rushing to eat. Hab 1:9 “All of them come for violence, the direction of their faces is like the east wind, and they gather captives like sand. Hab 1:10 “And they scoff at sovereigns, and princes are a laughing matter to them. They laugh at every stronghold, for they pile up earth and seize it. Hab 1:11 “Then shall he pass on as a wind, and transgress and be guilty, and ascribe this power to his mighty one.” (Nothing will stop them- Dan 7:21-22)
Hab 2:14 for the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the
esteem of יהוה, as the waters cover the sea!a
Footnote: a Isa_11:9.
Hab 3:2 O יהוה, I have heard your report, I
was afraid. O יהוה, renew Your work in the midst
of the years! Make it known in the midst of the years. In wrath remember
compassion.
Hab 3:16 I heard, and my body trembled, My lips quivered at the
sound, Rottenness came into my bones. And I trembled within myself, That I
might rest for the day of distress, To come upon the people who would attack
us. Hab 3:17 Though the fig tree does not blossom, And there is no
fruit on the vine, The yield of the olive has failed, And the fields brought
forth no food, The flock has been cut off from the fold, And there is no herd
in the stalls, Hab 3:18 Yet I exult in יהוה, I rejoice in the Elohim of my deliverance. Hab 3:19
יהוה the Master is my strength. And
He makes my feet like those of deer, And makes me walk on my high places. To
the chief singer with my stringed instruments.
What
happened after the plague? How should we respond during and after the great and
terrible judgments of the last days? (we can observe this pattern in our
current Torah portion- YHVH is going to do a ‘’new thing’’)
א נַחֲמוּ נַחֲמוּ, עַמִּי--יֹאמַר, אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.
Isa 40:1 “Comfort, comfort My
people!” says your Elohim. Isa 40:2 “Speak to the heart of
Yerushalayim, and cry out to her, that her hard service is completed, that her
crookedness is pardoned, that she has received from the hand of יהוה double for all her sins.” Isa 40:3 The voice of one
crying in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of יהוה; make straight in the desert a highway for our Elohim.
And so our Torah portion begins:
לאלה תחלק – ‘’to these the land shall be apportioned’’ (‘’these’’ who
have survived the unthinkable)
Num 26:52 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, Num
26:53 “The land is to be divided to these as an inheritance,
according to the number of names.
Before the land is divided a census is taken.
Num
26:1 And it came to be, after the
plague, that יהוה spoke to Mosheh and El’azar,
son of Aharon the priest, saying, Num 26:2
“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl from
twenty years old and above, by their fathers’ houses, everyone going out to the
army in Yisra’ĕl.” Num 26:3 So
Mosheh and El’azar the priest spoke with them in the desert plains of Mo’aḇ by
the Yardĕn of Yeriḥo, saying, Num 26:4 “Take
a census of the people from twenty years old and above, as יהוה commanded Mosheh and the children of Yisra’ĕl who came out of
the land of Mitsrayim.”
Rashi: This could be compared to a
shepherd whose flock was attacked by wolves and some sheep were killed, so he
counted them to know how many were left.
The
term used for the first counting Yisraelites (census) that took place was
“gulgoleth” or skull, the same word that comes from “Golgotha”(Mark 15:22-32)
This second counting of Yisrealites, the word “adat” or congregation. The first
time they counted the ‘’skulls’’ and the second time they counted the
congregation. Could this refer to the possibility that only those who have
acknowledged and humbled themselves before Israel’s Messiah (“saved” and “born
again”) will be included in the final count of the Assembly of YHVH (the bride
of Messiah) that are to enter the promised land? (see vs 26:63-65) and receive an inheritance
that will never be taken away from them again - Peter 1:4 ‘’to obtain an
inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you,’’
לאלה תחלק – ‘’to these the land shall be apportioned’’ again during the millennial reign of Messiah.
Eze 47:21 “And you shall divide this land among
yourselves according to the tribes of Yisra’ěl.
Eze 47:22 “And it shall be that you divide it by lot as an inheritance for yourselves, and for the strangers who sojourn in your midst and who bear children among you. And they shall be to you as native-born among the children of Yisra’ěl – with you they have an inheritance in the midst of the tribes of Yisra’ěl.a Footnote: a Isa_14:1, Isa_56:6-8, Rom_11:17-26, Eph_2:19, Eph_3:6, Rev_21:12. Eze 47:23 “And it shall be that in whatever tribe the stranger sojourns, there you give him his inheritance,” declares the Master יהוה.

The LOST TRIBES of Yisrael WILL Return & Here's How - Rav Dror
לאלה תחלק – ‘’to these the land shall be apportioned’’ (this land they are fighting over in the middle-east belongs to us)
Num 26:52 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 26:53 “The land is to be divided to these
as an inheritance, according to the number of names.
Num 26:54 “To the large one you give a larger
inheritance, and to the small one you give a smaller inheritance. Each shall be
given its inheritance according to their registered ones.
Num 26:55 “But the land is divided by lot, they
inherit according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.
Num 26:56 “According to the lot their inheritance
is divided between the larger and the smaller.”
Num 26:57 And these are the registered ones of the
Lěwites according to their clans: of Gěrshon, the clan of the Gěrshonites; of
Qehath, the clan of the Qehathites; of Merari, the clan of the Merarites.
Num 26:58 These are the clans of the Lěwites: the
clan of the Liḇnites, the clan of the Ḥeḇronites, the clan of the Maḥlites, the
clan of the Mushites, and the clan of the Qorḥites. And Qehath brought forth
Amram.
Num 26:59 And the name of Amram’s wife was Yoḵeḇeḏ
the daughter of Lěwi, who was born to Lěwi in Mitsrayim. And to Amram she bore
Aharon and Mosheh and their sister Miryam.
Num 26:60 And to Aharon were born Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu,
El‛azar and Ithamar.
Num 26:61 And Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu died when they
brought strange fire before יהוה.
Num 26:62 And their registered ones were
twenty-three thousand, every male from a new moona old and above. For
they were not registered among the other children of Yisra’ěl, because there
was no inheritance given to them among the children of Yisra’ěl. Footnote:
aOr a month.
Num 26:63 These are the ones registered by Mosheh
and El‛azar the priest, who registered the sons of Yisra’ěl in the desert
plains of Mo’aḇ by the Yarděn of Yeriḥo.
Num 26:64 But among these there was not a man of
those registered by Mosheh and Aharon the priest when they registered the sons
of Yisra’ěl in the Wilderness of Sinai.
Num 26:65 For יהוה had said of them, “They shall certainly die in the wilderness.” And not a man was left of them, except Kalěḇ son of Yephunneh, and Yehoshua son of Nun.
Only those registered by the Levites were able to receive an inheritance.
What if this applies to an end time generation as well? (Mt 5:17-19) Is it possible that we must wait for an end time restored Levitical priesthood to register us for an inheritance in the Promised Land? – the 12000 Levites of Revelation 7!
Before Yahshua returns there will be a restoration of all
things - Act 3:19 “Repent therefore and turn back, for
the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come
from the presence of the Master,
Act 3:20 and that He sends יהושע Messiah, pre-appointed for you, Act 3:21 whom heaven needs to receive until the times of restoration of all matters, of which Elohim spoke through the mouth of all His set-apart prophets since of old.
This ‘’restoration of all things’’ includes something new that YHVH is going to do on earth.
Jer 31:22 “Till when would you turn here and there, O backsliding daughter? For יהוה has created what is new on earth: a woman encompasses a man!”
The Daughters of Zelophehad –
The picture, the parable and the pattern of the last days – where women would
play a critical role.
Num 27:1 Then came the daughters of Tselophḥaḏ, son of Ḥěpher,
son of Gil‛aḏ, son of Maḵir, son of Menashsheh, from the clans of Menashsheh,
son of Yosěph. And these were the names of his daughters: Maḥlah, No‛ah, and Ḥoḡlah,
and Milkah, and Tirtsah.
Num 27:2 And they stood
before Mosheh, and before El‛azar the priest, and before the leaders and all
the congregation, by the doorway of the Tent of Appointment, saying,
Num 27:3 “Our father died
in the wilderness, yet he was not in the company of those who were met together
against יהוה, in
company with Qoraḥ, but he died in his own sin. And he had no sons.
Num 27:4 “Why should the
name of our father be removed from among his clan because he had no son? Give
us a possession among the brothers of our father.” (remember they only
registered the men over 20 years old)
Num 27:5 Mosheh then
brought their case before יהוה.
Num 27:6 And יהוה spoke to
Mosheh, saying,
Num 27:7 “The daughters of
Tselophḥaḏ speak what is right. You should certainly give them a possession of
inheritance among their father’s brothers, and cause the inheritance of their
father to pass to them.
Num 27:8 “And speak to the
children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘When a man dies and has no son, then you shall
cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.
Num 27:9 And if he has no
daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
Num 27:10 And if he has no
brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
Num 27:11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, and he shall possess it.’ ” And it shall be to the children of Yisra’ěl a law of right-ruling, as יהוה commanded Mosheh.
Num 27:1 Then came the daughters of Tselophḥaḏ, son of Ḥĕpher, son of Gil’aḏ, son of
Maḵir, son of Menashsheh, from the clans of Menashsheh, son of Yosĕph. And
these were the names of his daughters: Maḥlah, Noʽah, and Ḥoḡlah, and
Milkah, and Tirtsah.
The daughters of Zelophehad could be compared to a type of end time bride of Messiah:
“Machla” means afflicted, “No’ah” means "wandering", Milkah means
"queen", Tirtsah means "pleasing", Hoglah can
possibly mean celebrating or dancing, because the first part of her name is
“Chag.”
Etymology of the name “Hoglah”
“The name Hoglah is ascribed to an unused root, which occurs in Arabic with the meaning of to hobble or hop. The Arabic derived noun means partridge, so scholars conclude that the Hebrew name Hoglah does the same. There's nothing in the vocabulary of the Scriptures that comes close to the name “Hoglah.”
Could the meaning of these combined names be a hidden reference to the five wise virgins in the parable of the ten virgins – Matt 25?
“The afflicted bride, weary from her wonderings will be crowned queen because she is pleasing to her king Messiah. She will dance and celebrate with her Messiah king at the marriage feast of the Lamb.”
“The five daughters of Zelophehad were mentioned six times in the Tenach (Numbers 26:33; Numbers 27:1; Numbers 36:6; Numbers 36:10; Numbers 36:11, and Yehoshua/Joshua 17:6). YHVH instructed that these women were to be given their portion of the land in Canaan, with the proviso they marry men from the same tribe. Thus, the inheritance was complete for all rightful heirs of the tribe of Manasseh.
Archaeological discoveries in 1910 produced
some very interesting historical evidence: One with the city’s names was “Noa”
another with the city’s name “Hogla” and in the same region they found a city
named “Tirza”. (1 Kings 15:21 “21 )
In a storehouse north of Shechem (in the land of the tribe of Manasseh) wine and olive oil jars (dated from the period of Jeroboam) bearing the following inscriptions on them were found:
“They were virtuous, since they would marry only such men as were worthy of them.... Even the youngest among them was not married before forty years of age. (This is deduced from the fact that Tzelafchad died in the first year after Exodus, and his daughters' petition was in the 40th year; thus the youngest of them could have been less than 40 at the time. Yet this occurred before their marriage, as evidenced from Numbers 36).”(Talmud, Bava Batra 119b)
Midrash:
The issue of the
inheritance of the daughters of Tzelophad seems almost insignificant in the
account of the other serious issues addressed in this parashah.
We can assume that if
the marriage relationships were healthy between the Yisraelites they may have
never fallen to such a terrible moral depravity with the Midianite woman.
The restoration of Torah marriages in the last days could
be a key for the return and restoration of Yisrael in the land. Is 4:1
Set apart Torah woman
who are not in competition with their husbands are being raised up by YHVH in
these days – See Yermiyahu 31:22.
Yahshua was surrounded by women who supported his ministry through their financial giving and caring for him - (Luke 8:2-3).
Women were able to
consecrate themselves with the vow of a Nazarite (Num. 6:2), just like men.
The women were also
present in services to hear the Word of YHVH (Neh. 8:2-3), and engaged in music
ministry (Ex. 15:20-21; 1 Chron. 25:5), women sang and danced in worship and
often celebrated before YHVH with singing, dancing, and tambourines (e.g., 1
Samuel 18:6; Psalm 68:25), and prophesy often included instruments1
Chron.25:1-3, prophecy was also often sung as the Psalms were inspired words
put to song. The “daughters of music” (Eccl.12:4) were singing women, but they
were not included in the temple choir. In Exod.15:19-21 Yisrael’s first
prophetess (Mariam) led the women in timbrel, dancing, and singing the same
song of Moshe which is the most ancient praise song that we know of.
Huldah (640 B.C. 2
Kings 22:13-20), during the reformation of Yosiah, his workmen, who were
repairing the temple, found a scroll of the Torah that was neglected during the
previous generation under King Manasseh. Yoshiyahu directed five leaders to
inquire of YHVH about the scroll. They went to the married prophetess (Huldah) to
verify the Torah.
Yoshua to Succeed Mosheh –
Yahshua will lead us into the Promised Land.
Num 27:12 And יהוה said to
Mosheh, “Go up into this Mount Aḇarim, and see the land which I have given to
the children of Yisra’ěl.
Num 27:13 “And when you
have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people as Aharon your brother
was gathered,
Num 27:14 because you rebelled against My mouth in the Wilderness of Tsin, in the strife of the congregation, to set Me apart at the waters before their eyes.” These were the waters of Meriḇah, at Qaḏěsh in the Wilderness of Tsin.
Yahshua is about to lead an end time remnant into the Promised Land – never again to lose their inheritance.
Show me a people who desire the Torah more than gold and I will show you the only people who are ready for what is about to come upon the world – and a people ready for their inheritance.
Psa 19:7 The Torah of יהוה is perfect, bringing back the being; The witness of יהוה is trustworthy, making wise the simple; Psa 19:8 The orders of יהוה are straight, rejoicing the heart; The command of יהוה is clear, enlightening the eyes; Psa 19:9 The fear of יהוה is clean, standing forever; The right-rulings of יהוה are true, They are righteous altogether, Psa 19:10 More desirable than gold, Than much fine gold; And sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
