Parashat 10 Portion 38 Beresheet 41:1-37 Yesh 29:1-16 – Rev 7:1-17

Blessing for the Torah:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe,
you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Gen 41:1  And it came to be, at the end of two years’ time, that Pharaoh had a dream, and saw him standing by the river,
Gen 41:2  and saw seven cows coming up out of the river, fine looking and fat, and they fed amongst the reeds,
Gen 41:3  then saw seven other cows coming up after them out of the river, ugly and lean of flesh, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.
Gen 41:4  And the ugly and lean of flesh cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. Then Pharaoh awoke.
Gen 41:5  And he slept and dreamed a second time and saw seven heads of grain coming up on one stalk, plump and good,
Gen 41:6  and saw seven lean heads, scorched by the east wind, coming up after them.
Gen 41:7  And the seven lean heads swallowed the seven plump and complete heads. Then Pharaoh awoke and saw it was a dream.
Gen 41:8  And it came to be in the morning that his spirit was moved, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Mitsrayim and all its wise men. And Pharaoh related to them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.
Gen 41:9  Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my crimes this day.
Gen 41:10  “When Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in confinement in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker,
Gen 41:11  each one of us dreamed a dream in one night, he and I. Each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his own dream.
Gen 41:12  “And there was with us a Heḇrew youth, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we related to him, and he interpreted our dreams for us. To each man he interpreted according to his own dream.
Gen 41:13  “And it came to be, as he interpreted for us, so it came to be. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”
Gen 41:14  Then Pharaoh sent and called Yosĕph, and they hurriedly brought him out of the dungeon. And he shaved and changed his garments, and came to Pharaoh.
Gen 41:15  And Pharaoh said to Yosĕph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. Now I myself have heard it said of you that you understand a dream, to interpret it.”
Gen 41:16  And Yosĕph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me, let Elohim answer Pharaoh with peace.”
Gen 41:17  And Pharaoh said to Yosĕph, “See, in my dream I stood on the bank of the river
Gen 41:18  and saw seven cows coming up out of the river, fine looking and fat, and they fed amongst the reeds,
Gen 41:19  then saw seven other cows coming up after them, poor and very ugly and lean of flesh, such ugliness as I have never seen in all the land of Mitsrayim.
Gen 41:20  “And the lean of flesh and ugly cows ate up the first seven, the fat cows.
Gen 41:21  “Yet when they had eaten them up, no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were as ugly as at the beginning. Then I awoke.
Gen 41:22  “Also, I looked in my dream and saw seven heads coming up on one stalk, complete and good,
Gen 41:23  then saw seven heads, withered, lean, scorched by the east wind, coming up after them.
Gen 41:24  “And the lean heads swallowed the seven good heads. And I spoke to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.”
Gen 41:25  And Yosĕph said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. Elohim has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do:
Gen 41:26  “The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good heads are seven years – it is one dream.
Gen 41:27  “And the seven lean and ugly cows which came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty heads scorched by the east wind are seven years of scarcity of food.
Gen 41:28  “This is the word which I spoke to Pharaoh: Elohim has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.
Gen 41:29  “See, seven years of great plenty are coming in all the land of Mitsrayim,
Gen 41:30  but after them seven years of scarcity of food shall arise and all the plenty be forgotten in the land of Mitsrayim. And the scarcity of food shall destroy the land,
Gen 41:31  and the plenty shall not be remembered in the land, because of the scarcity of food following, for it is very severe.
Gen 41:32  “And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the word is established by Elohim, and Elohim is hastening to do it.
Gen 41:33  “And now, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Mitsrayim.
Gen 41:34  “Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, to take up one-fifth of the land of Mitsrayim in the seven years of plenty.
Gen 41:35  “And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
Gen 41:36  “And the food shall be for a store for the land for the seven years of scarcity of food which shall be in the land of Mitsrayim, and do not let the land be cut off by the scarcity of food.”
Gen 41:37  And the word was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.

Midrash on Portion:

Pharoah wanted a sign that Yosef was telling the truth.

Yasher 48
62 And the king answered and said unto Joseph, Who sayeth and who knoweth that thy words are correct? And he said unto the king, This shall be a sign for thee respecting all my words, that they are true and that my advice is good for thee.
63 Behold thy wife sitteth this day upon the stool of delivery, and she will bear thee a son and thou wilt rejoice with him; when thy child shall have gone forth from his mother's womb, thy first born son that has been born these two years back shall die, and thou wilt be comforted in the child that will be born unto thee this day.
64 And Joseph finished speaking these words to the king, and he bowed down to the king and he went out, and when Joseph had gone out from the king's presence, those signs which Joseph had spoken unto the king came to pass on that day.
65 And the queen bare a son on that day and the king heard the glad tidings about his son, and he rejoiced, and when the reporter had gone forth from the king's presence, the king's servants found the first born son of the king fallen dead upon the ground.

Yasher 49
9 And all the officers answered the king and said, But surely it is written in the laws of Egypt, and it should not be violated, that no man shall reign over Egypt, nor be the second to the king, but one who has knowledge in all the languages of the sons of men.
10 Now therefore our lord and king, behold this Hebrew man can only speak the Hebrew language, and how then can he be over us the second under government, a man who not even knoweth our language?
11 Now we pray thee send for him, and let him come before thee, and prove him in all things, and do as thou see fit.
12 And the king said, It shall be done tomorrow, and the thing that you have spoken is good; and all the officers came on that day before the king.
13 And on that night the Lord sent one of his ministering angels, and he came into the land of Egypt unto Joseph, and the angel of the Lord stood over Joseph, and behold Joseph was lying in the bed at night in his master's house in the dungeon, for his master had put him back into the dungeon on account of his wife.
14 And the angel roused him from his sleep, and Joseph rose up and stood upon his legs, and behold the angel of the Lord was standing opposite to him; and the angel of the Lord spoke with Joseph, and he taught him all the languages of man in that night, and he called his name Jehoseph. End quote.

Here we see two very interesting parallels of how Yosef saves Egypt and how Yahshua came to redeem mankind.
1.The death of the first born.
2.The proclamation of this redemptive  message in all the languages of the world – Shavuot or Pentecost.
Pharoah also gives Yosef a gentile wife – Yahshua was also given a gentile wife  – gentiles – those who would be grafted into the olive tree – Yisrael.

Later on Pharoah changes Yosef’s name to  - Zaphnath-paaneah; - an Egyptian word, of which the most accredited interpretations are "the Salvation of the World," (Furst, Jablonsky, Rosellini, and others); "the Rescuer of the World" (Gesenius); "the Prince of the Life of the World" (Brugsch); "the Food of Life," or "the Food of the Living"

Yoch/Joh 6:35  And יהושע said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall not get hungry at all, and he who believes in Me shall not get thirsty at all.

Midrash on the dreams:

End-Time Spiritual Famine - Douglas S. Winnail
YHVH inspired the prophet Amos to record: "Behold, the days are coming, says YHVH that I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of YHVH. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of YHVH, but shall not find it" (Amos 8:11–12). This prophecy refers to a time when "the end has come upon My people Israel" (Amos 8:2), and it has dual applications to both the ancient nation of Israel and to modern nations descended from ancient Israel. A "famine" of hearing the truth occurs when the nations of Israel are taken over by a foreign power that prohibits the proclamation and practice of the true biblical faith. This happened around 720BC when Assyrians carried the northern 10 tribes of Israel into captivity. It will happen again during the Tribulation, when the modern descendants of ancient Israel are punished for their sins (Matthew 24:9; Hosea 5:5; Jeremiah 22:5–9).
Hos 5:3  “I have known Ephrayim, and Yisra’ĕl has not been hidden from Me. For now, O Ephrayim, you have whored, Yisra’ĕl is defiled.
Hos 5:4  “Their deeds do not allow them to turn back to their Elohim, for the spirit of whorings is among them, and they do not know יהוה.
Hos 5:5  “And the Excellency of Yisra’ĕl shall witness to his face, and Yisra’ĕl and Ephrayim stumble in their crookedness. Yehuḏah shall also stumble with them.

Hos 5:6  “With their flocks and herds they go to seek יהוה, but do not find Him – He has withdrawn from them.
(This is a very stern warning – in spite of a restoration of scriptural truth most believers harden their hearts and refuse to return to the ancient paths.)

“The prophet Daniel explains how this "famine" of hearing the truth will come about in the last days. In a vision, Daniel saw a "little horn" dominating the last seven revivals of the Roman Empire (the fourth beast; see Daniel 7:7–8, 19–20). This little horn will be a prominent religious figure (and his church), teaching blasphemous doctrines that contradict Scripture. This "horn" will work to change the calendar of religious observances, and will persecute those who follow Scripture (Daniel 7:21, 24–25).
(The Scriptures Version of Dan 7:25  and it speaks words against the Most High, and it wears out the set-apart ones of the Most High, and it intends to change appointed times1 and law2, and they are given into its hand for a time and times and half a time. Footnotes: 1This is another word for festivals. 2Changing the law amounts to lawlessness. Read in 2 Thess. 2:3-12 about “the lawless one” and the “lawlessness” which would take over (indeed, it has already taken over!) in the set-apart place, and also about Messiah’s judgment upon the lawless “prophets” in Mt. 7:23, and the lawless “believers” in Mt. 13:41! )
History records that the bishops of Rome presided over councils that changed the weekly day of worship from the biblical Sabbath (the day observed by Yahshua, His disciples and believers in the apostolic era; see Luke 4:16; Acts 13:42–44; 16:11–13; 17:2) to Sunday. Pagan sun worshipers already observed Sunday; one rationale for the change was that it would make it easier for pagans to convert to this new form of "Christianity." In a similar manner, Easter was substituted for the biblical Passover, and winter solstice celebrations were "Christianized" to attract pagans into the fold. (Christmas (25th of Dec), the pagan day of pagan idols was also Christianized). Roman law backed these ecclesiastical decisions to accept non-biblical doctrines and practices in the name of "Christianity." In recent years, the papacy has re-emphasized Sunday as a day of worship, and has urged the adoption of European laws enshrining Sunday as a holiday. Such laws could be used in the future to actively discourage observance of the biblical Sabbath and to promote conformity to Sunday observance.
Daniel saw a vision of another "little horn\ that would cause the daily offerings/sacrifices in the temple in Jerusalem to cease and would \cast truth down to the ground" (Daniel 8:8–14). This dual prophecy was initially fulfilled by Antiochus Epiphanes when he sacked Jerusalem in 168BC, set up a statue of Zeus in the Temple and offered swine blood on the altar—a great offense to the Jewish people. Antiochus pressured Jewish priests to compromise their religious practices and to accept the process of Hellenization. The Expositor's Bible Commentary states that Antiochus' actions foreshadow "a determined effort made by a ruthless dictator to completely suppress the biblical faith" at the end of the age, who will attempt to foster religious uniformity (see comments on Daniel 8:11–12).
In yet another vision, Daniel prophesied that a powerful end-time leader, with links to a revived Roman system, will make a seven-year covenant that will at first permit the Jewish people to resume sacrifices, "but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering" (Daniel 9:26–27). This covenant will begin as a token of religious toleration, but after three-and-a-half years "all pretense of religious toleration will be dropped" as this ruler attempts to enforce conformity to a corrupt religion (Expositor's Bible Commentary). This influential end-time religious leader, and his efforts to stifle and obliterate true biblical religion, are clearly linked to the actions of false teachers at the end of the age (Daniel 12:11; Matthew 24:3, 11, 15; Revelation 17:1–5). End quote.

Could this dream Pharoah had apply to the seven year tribulation as recorded in the book of Revelation? Where both famine and abundance will be found?

Joe 2:23  And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you the Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.
Joe 2:24  And the threshing-floors shall be filled with grain, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.
Joe 2:25  “Then I shall repay you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, and the consuming locust, and the gnawing locust, My great army which I sent among you.
Joe 2:26  “Then you shall eat – eat and be satisfied – and shall praise the Name of יהוה your Elohim, who has done with you so wondrously. And My people shall never be put to shame.
Joe 2:27  “And you shall know that I am in the midst of Yisra’ĕl1, and that I am יהוה your Elohim and there is no one else. And My people shall never be put to shame. Footnote: 1See Isa. 24:23.
Joe 2:28  “And after this it shall be that I pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men dream dreams, your young men see visions.
Joe 2:29  “And also on the male servants and on the female servants I shall pour out My Spirit in those days.
Joe 2:30  “And I shall give signs in the heavens and upon the earth: blood and fire and columns of smoke,
Joe 2:31  the sun is turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of יהוה.

THE CHURCH WAS INITIATED AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY AN INCOMPLETE AND OFTEN FALSE IMAGE OF YAHSHUA. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THE CHURCH CAN CONTINUE TO SURVIVE. THE TRUE IMAGE OF YAHSHUA IS THAT HE IS THE ANOINTED ONE (MESSIAH) WHO WAS BROUGHT FORTH AT THE APPOINTED TIME, FROM THE TRIBE OF YEHUDAH; A JEWISH RABBI WHO UPHELD AND TAUGHT PROPER TORAH OBSERVANCE AS LONG AS HEAVEN AND EARTH ARE STILL IN EXISTENCE.
THIS IS THE GREAT DECEPTION - THE TRUTH APPEARING AS THE TRUTH IS NOT THE TRUTH.
THE COMING GREAT ABUNDANCE AND OUTPOURING OF THE RUACH OF YHVH HAS TO DO WITH A COMPLETE AND UNDEFILED MANIFEST ION OF WHO THE SON OF MAN TRULY IS – YAHSHUA HA MASHIACH –
JUDMENT IS COMING ON THE EARTH BECAUSE THE SON OF MAN HAS BEEN MISREPRESENTED BY THOSE WHO CALL THEMSELVES HIS FOLLOWERS.

2Co 11:3  But I am afraid, lest, as the serpent deceived Ḥawwah by his trickery, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah.
2Co 11:4  For, indeed, if he who is coming proclaims another יהושע,1 whom we have not proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different Good News which you have not accepted, you put up with it well enough! Footnote: 1Mt. 24:5 & 23-24, John 5:43.

Is it possible that the seven years of famine have to do with the sick image which has been portrayed of the son of man and seven years of plenty have to do with an unhindered full revelation of who the son of man is?

Jas 1:25  But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom,1 and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah. Footnote: 1See 2:12.

Rev 3:7  “And to the messenger of the assembly in Philadelphia write, ‘He who is set-apart, He who is true, He who has the key of Dawiḏ, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens, says this:
Rev 3:8  “I know your works – see, I have set before you an open door, and no one is able to shut it – that you have little power, yet have guarded My Word, and have not denied My Name.
Rev 3:9  “See, I am giving up those of the congregation of Satan, who say they are Yehuḏim and are not, but lie. See, I am making them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.
Rev 3:10  “Because you have guarded My Word of endurance, I also shall guard you from the hour of trial which shall come upon all the world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
Rev 3:11  “See, I am coming speedily! Hold what you have that no one take your crown.
Rev 3:12  “He who overcomes, I shall make him a supporting post in the Dwelling Place of My Elohim, and he shall by no means go out. And I shall write on him the Name of My Elohim and the name of the city of My Elohim, the renewed Yerushalayim, which comes down out of the heaven from My Elohim, and My renewed Name.

“Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

Parashat 9 Portion 37 Beresheet/Gen 40:1-23 Haftarah: Amos 1:3-2:6 – Matt 5:1-16

Ameyn.)

There is a very stern warning in the Haftarah portion. Severe judgment is pronounced by the prophet Amos on the heathen nations because of how they have treated others – but Yehudah and Yisrael do not escape the strong warning of impending judgment as well. This is a warning to us who call ourselves believers and become complacent because we think others deserve the judgments of YHVH and not us.

Amo 2:4  Thus said יהוה, “For three transgressions of Yehuḏah, and for four, I do not turn it back, because they have rejected the Torah of יהוה, and did not guard His laws. And their lies after which their fathers walked lead them astray.
Amo 2:5  “But I shall send fire upon Yehuḏah, and it shall consume the palaces of Yerushalayim.”
Amo 2:6  Thus said יהוה, “For three transgressions of Yisra’ĕl, and for four, I do not turn it back, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of sandals,

To understand the essence of YHVH’s anger against Yisrael in this passage we need to understand the Hebrew expression used. The Hebrew is not talking about two different kinds of people – righteous and needy – the Hebrew uses a poetic parallel comparing righteous people to needy people. The scripture is saying that righteous people are sold for a pair of sandals or they are sold for the going rate. Sandals were exchanged when business deals were done. This really seems to anger YHVH – when righteous people are sold out for the price of popular opinion.

There always seems to be a righteous remnant who opposes the popular opinions of the church or synagogue and they are sold out so that the religious system can pursue its own unrighteous agenda.

If you want to get into big trouble with YHVH treat His people badly.

2Th 1:1  Sha’ul, and Sila, and Timothy, to the assembly of the Thessalonians in Elohim our Father and the Master יהושע Messiah:
2Th 1:2  Favour to you and peace from Elohim our Father and the Master יהושע Messiah.
2Th 1:3  We ought to give thanks to Elohim always for you, brothers, as it is proper, because your belief grows exceedingly, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing,
2Th 1:4  so that we ourselves boast of you among the assemblies of Elohim for your endurance and belief in all your persecutions and afflictions which you are bearing,
2Th 1:5  clear evidence of the righteous judgment of Elohim, in order for you to be counted worthy of the reign of Elohim, for which you also suffer,
2Th 1:6  since Elohim shall rightly repay with affliction those who afflict you,
2Th 1:7  and to give you who are afflicted rest with us when the Master יהושע is revealed from heaven with His mighty messengers,
2Th 1:8  in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know Elohim, and on those who do not obey the Good News of our Master יהושע Messiah,
2Th 1:9  who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Master and from the esteem of His strength, (maybe he is talking about some of the religious people of his day)
2Th 1:10  when He comes to be esteemed in His set-apart ones and to be admired among all those who believe in that Day, because our witness to you was believed.
2Th 1:11  To this end we always pray for you that our Elohim would count you worthy of this calling, and complete all the good pleasure of goodness, and the work of belief with power,
2Th 1:12  so that the Name of our Master יהושע Messiah is esteemed in you, and you in Him, according to the favour of our Elohim and the Master יהושע Messiah.

Our Torah portion begins:

Gen 40:1  And after these events it came to be that the cupbearer and the baker of the sovereign of Mitsrayim sinned against their master, the sovereign of Mitsrayim.
Gen 40:2  And Pharaoh was wroth with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker.
Gen 40:3  So he put them in confinement in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison, the place where Yosĕph was a prisoner.
Gen 40:4  And the captain of the guard put Yosĕph in charge of them, and he served them. So they were in confinement for some time.
Gen 40:5  Then the cupbearer and the baker of the sovereign of Mitsrayim, who were confined in the prison, dreamed a dream, both of them, each man’s dream in one night and each man’s dream with its own interpretation.
Gen 40:6  And Yosĕph came in to them in the morning and looked at them and saw that they were sad.
Gen 40:7  And he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in confinement of his master’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?”
Gen 40:8  And they said to him, “We each have dreamed a dream, and there is no one to interpret it.” And Yosĕph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to Elohim? Relate them to me, please.”
Gen 40:9  So the chief cupbearer related his dream to Yosĕph, and said to him, “See, in my dream a vine was before me,
Gen 40:10  and in the vine were three branches, and it was as though it budded – its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes.
Gen 40:11  “And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand. So I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
Gen 40:12  And Yosĕph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.
Gen 40:13  “Yet, within three days Pharaoh is going to lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you shall put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former ruling, when you were his cupbearer.
Gen 40:14  “But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me. And mention me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house.
Gen 40:15  “For truly I was stolen away from the land of the Heḇrews. And also I have done naught that they should put me into the dungeon.”
Gen 40:16  And the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, and he said to Yosĕph, “I also was in my dream and saw three white baskets were on my head,
Gen 40:17  and in the uppermost basket all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.”
Gen 40:18  And Yosĕph answered and said, “This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.
Gen 40:19  “Yet, within three days Pharaoh is going to lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree. And the birds shall eat your flesh from you.”
Gen 40:20  And on the third day, Pharaoh’s birthday, it came to be that he made a feast for all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and of the chief baker among his servants,
Gen 40:21  and he restored the chief cupbearer to his post of cupbearer again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand,
Gen 40:22  but he hanged the chief baker, as Yosĕph had interpreted to them.
Gen 40:23  And the chief cupbearer did not remember Yosĕph, but forgot him.

We remember that there is no idle word in the Torah –

Deu 32:46  he said to them, “Set your heart on all the words with which I warn you today, so that you command your children to guard to do all the Words of this Torah.
Deu 32:47  “For it is not a worthless Word for you, because it is your life, and by this Word you prolong your days on the soil which you pass over the Yardĕn to possess.”

The Torah does not just tell nice little stories about historical events, beneath every word is a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. This is why students of the Torah love to Midrash – search – for possible meanings and application of the Torah readings.

Yasher 46
19 “And the butler, to whom Joseph had interpreted his dream, forgot Joseph, and he did not mention him to the king as he had promised, for this thing was from the Lord in order to punish Joseph because he had trusted in man.
20 And Joseph remained after this in the prison house two years, until he had completed twelve years.”
This teaches us that the kind of work and ministry YHVH has called a Yosef - people to do cannot and never will be accomplished by our own strength. The task is too big and impossible for men to achieve without the empowering of the Ruach of YHVH.

This is why Shaul prays -
2Th 1:11  To this end we always pray for you that our Elohim would count you worthy of this calling, and complete all the good pleasure of goodness, and the work of belief with power,
2Th 1:12  so that the Name of our Master יהושע Messiah is esteemed in you, and you in Him, according to the favour of our Elohim and the Master יהושע Messiah.

This Torah portion speaks about two very powerful covenantal symbols – bread and wine – these both are connected to people’s lives who want to get back into the presence of the king.

We understand now that these covenantal symbols reveal the nature of Messiah’s calling and ministry to bring us back into the presence of YHVH.

This Torah portion is about how people get into the presence of the KING.

The key is and always will be Yahshua.

The pattern is always the same -  Messiah the ‘bread of life broken for us’ can only become reality for us and sustain us when we receive the fullness of YHVH’s Ruach – the wine – so that we may enter into the covenant or presence of YHVH.

The only way we ever get to accomplish His purposes as co workers of His deliverance for His people is being in the closest possible unhindered fellowship with Him – Shema Yisrael ….

So bread and wine speak of YHVH’s desire to be as close as He can be with us and how Yahshua made it possible to be so.

Rev 3:19  “As many as I love, I reprove and discipline. So be ardent and repent.
Rev 3:20  “See, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I shall come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

That’s why the Appointment of Shavuot is so important -  it is not only the giving of the Torah -  the bread -  but also the pouring out of the Ruach – the wine.

Eph 5:18  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is loose behaviour, but be filled with the Spirit,

Shaul warns that we are not to partake of the breaking of bread in an unworthy way.

1Co 11:28  But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread and drink of that cup.
1Co 11:29  For the one who is eating and drinking unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Master.
1Co 11:30  Because of this many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
1Co 11:31  For if we were to examine ourselves, we would not be judged.
1Co 11:32  But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Master, that we should not be condemned with the world.
1Co 11:33  So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
1Co 11:34  And if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And the rest I shall set in order when I come. (Don’t use the gathering of the set apart ones as an opportunity to get a free meal)

The covenant Yahshua made with YHVH on our behalf is made real when we come together in unity to manifest in a corporate way what Yahshua did for us on his own.

How does one partake in an unworthy manner?

When we reject the Torah – the bread.
When we only want to be led by the Ruach and not want the word broken for us so that we may see that the two go together and cannot be isolated.

Our Master has shown us that he leaves the best wine until last – we are all waiting for a final outpouring of the Ruach of YHVH in these days that will revive the Torah and prepare the way for the return of our Master and Messiah.

Parashat 9 Portion 36 Beresheet/Genesis 39:1-23 Haftarah:Yesh/Is 52:13 -53:12 Acts 16:16-40

Ameyn.)

“The Talmud [Shabbos 68B] reveals the heavenly deliberation which preceded Hashem's revelation and subsequent giving of the Torah to Moshe.
Rabi Yehoshua ben Levi taught: When Moshe ascended to the heavens (to receive the Torah) the ministering angels asked Hashem: What is a human being doing here amongst us?
Hashem answered: He has come to receive the Torah.
The angels responded: Are you going to give to flesh and blood the precious treasure that's been hidden away since the time before creation? What is man that he should be considered? Hashem, your glory should remain here in the heavens! “ End quote.

Joh 1:14  And the Word(Torah) became flesh and pitched His tent among us, and we saw His esteem, esteem as of an only brought-forth of a father, complete in favour and truth.
This week we once again consider the cost we make to follow the high calling of Elohim in Messiah.

Heb 3:1  Therefore, set-apart brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, closely consider the Emissary and High Priest of our confession, Messiah יהושע,
Heb 3:2  who was trustworthy to Him who appointed Him, as also Mosheh in all His house.
Heb 3:3  For this One has been deemed worthy of more esteem than Mosheh, as much as He who built the house enjoys more respect than the house.

The book of Hebrews was written to Jews who had come to faith in Messiah and who were becoming weary of the enormous opposition they were enduring from the religious establishment for their faith.
The writer to Hebrews recognizes the calling and esteem given to Moshe and adds that Yashua’s  is given higher esteem than Moshe. Moshe acknowledges this in Deu 18:15  “יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers. Listen to Him.Deu 18:19  ‘And it shall be, the man who does not listen to My Words which He speaks in My Name, I require it of him.

Act 3:22  “For Mosheh truly said to the fathers, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear according to all matters, whatever He says to you.

Act 3:23  ‘And it shall be that every being who does not hear that Prophet1 shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ Footnote: 1Deut. 18:18-20.

There is no conflict between the ministry of Yahshua and Moshe. In fact when Yahshua return he will teach the nations the Torah from Yerushalayim – Yesh 2:2-3 And it shall be in the latter days that the mountain of the House of יהוה is established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills. And all nations shall flow to it.

And many peoples shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of יהוה, to the House of the Elohim of Yaʽaqoḇ, and let Him teach1 us His ways1, and let us walk in His paths1, for out of Tsiyon comes forth the Torah1, and the Word1 of יהוה from Yerushalayim.” Footnote: 1His ways, His paths, the teaching and the Word of יהוה are used synonymously.  .

We have a high calling- Heb 3:1  Therefore, set-apart brothers, partakers of the heavenly calling, closely consider the Emissary and High Priest of our confession, Messiah יהושע,

The calling and message of both Messiah and Moshe is the same, only Messiah is worthy of more esteem than Moshe.
Both Messiah and Moshe paid a high price for this calling – are we called to something different?

High calling comes with a high price.

The calling and message have not changed. For the most part the church has a different calling and message from that of Moshe and Messiah.
The message and calling is still the same - to bring in the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael – to return to the faith of their fathers – to return to the Torah of YHVH.

Mat 15:24  And He(Yahshua) answering, said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Yisra’ĕl.”

In Messiah we are now grafted back into the vine of Yisrael – Rom 11.

Our Torah portion begins:

Gen 39:1  And Yosĕph had been taken down to Mitsrayim. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, a Mitsrite, bought him from the Yishmaʽĕlites who had taken him down there.

Note whenever the Torah speaks of going to Mitsrayim/ Egypt it always refers to ‘going down” to Mitsrayim/Egypt. Whenever the Torah speaks of going to Yisrael/Israel or Yerushalayim it says “going up.”

The chief executioner was most probably the captain of the guard. Yosef was fortunate to escape with his life after he was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife.

Gen 39:2  And it came to be that יהוה was with Yosĕph, and he became a prosperous man, and was in the house of his master the Mitsrite.
Gen 39:3  And his master saw that יהוה was with him and that יהוה made all he did to prosper in his hand.
Gen 39:4  So Yosĕph found favour in his eyes, and served him, and he appointed him over his house, and gave into his hand all that he had.
Gen 39:5  And it came to be, from the time that he appointed him over his house and all that he had, that יהוה blessed the Mitsrite’s house for Yosĕph’s sake. And the blessing of יהוה was on all that he had in the house and in the field.

These words in Torah are perhaps allegorical and profoundly prophetic:

Many sincere believers have prospered and done well in the “house of Egypt” – which although appearing to be outwardly appealing is not where YHVH has called us to be.

Egypt or Mitsrayim means “restricted” and can be compared to a birth canal which points to the way we are born again into the kingdom of Elohim.

Usually some dramatic crisis needs to occur before we leave Egypt – often the false accusations of our brothers will cause us to land in “jail” – isolated and rejected by those who were once greatly blessed by our lives.

These false accusations come about because we refuse to submit to the false doctrines and teachings of a Babylonian/Egyptian religious system that teaches that it is ok to fornicate with false doctrines of men and reject the true doctrine of scriptures/Torah.

Gen 39:6  And he left in Yosĕph’s hand all that he had, and he did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. And Yosĕph was handsome in form and appearance.
Gen 39:7  And after these events it came to be that his master’s wife lifted up her eyes to Yosĕph and said, “Lie with me.”
Gen 39:8  But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has given into my hand all that he has.
Gen 39:9  “No one is greater in this house than I, and he has not withheld whatever from me but you, because you are his wife. And how shall I do this great evil and sin against Elohim?”
Gen 39:10  And it came to be, as she spoke to Yosĕph day by day, that he did not listen to her, to lie with her, to be with her.
Gen 39:11  And it came to be on a certain day, when Yosĕph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside,
Gen 39:12  that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.
Gen 39:13  And it came to be, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and fled outside,
Gen 39:14  that she called to the men of her house and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in to us a Heḇrew to mock us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.
Gen 39:15  “And it came to be, when he heard that I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me, and fled and went outside.”
Gen 39:16  And she kept his garment with her until his master came home.
Gen 39:17  And she spoke to him these same words, saying, “The Heḇrew servant whom you brought to us came in to me, to mock me,
Gen 39:18  so it came to be, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that he left his garment with me and fled outside.”
Gen 39:19  And it came to be, when his master heard the words which his wife spoke to him, saying, “Your servant did to me according to these words,” that his displeasure burned.
Gen 39:20  Then Yosĕph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the sovereign’s prisoners were confined. And he was there in the prison.

Let’s have a look at some of the practical kinds of issues that can cause you and me to land up in “prison” – isolated and ostracized by our brethren.

1. When you begin to question the legitimacy of the church. Yahshua did not come to start a religion called Christianity or an organization called the church–in fact the word “church” never appears once in all of the original scriptures. Yahshua came for the lost sheep of Yisrael and He came to return Yisrael to the ancient paths of his fathers.

Jer 6:16  Thus said יהוה, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves. But they said, ‘We do not walk in it.’
Jer 6:17  “And I raised up watchmen over you, and said, ‘Listen to the sound of the ram’s horn!’ But they said, ‘We do not listen.’
Jer 6:18  “Therefore hear, you nations, and know, O congregation, what is upon them!
Jer 6:19  “Hear, O earth! See, I am bringing evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor My Torah – and they rejected it.

2. When one challenges the perception of who “G-d” is.

We know that He has a name – YHVH – we believe it is possibly pronounced Yahveh. We know that He alone is YHVH and that there is no other like Him.

Deu 6:1  “And this is the command, the laws and right-rulings which יהוה your Elohim has commanded, to teach you to do in the land which you are passing over to possess,
Deu 6:2  so that you fear יהוה your Elohim, to guard all His laws and His commands which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days be prolonged.
Deu 6:3  “And you shall hear, O Yisra’ĕl, and shall guard to do, that it might be well with you, and that you increase greatly as יהוה Elohim of your fathers has spoken to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Deu 6:4  “Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one!
Deu 6:5  “And you shall love יהוה your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your might.
Deu 6:6  “And these Words which I am commanding you today shall be in your heart,
Deu 6:7  and you shall impress them upon your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up,
Deu 6:8  and shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
Deu 6:9  “And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

There is no “holy trinity” and Yahshua is not YHVH – say that and you will definitely land up in “prison” and many believers even Messianic believers will do all they can to discredit you.

3. When you begin to question the pagan origins of Christmas and Easter and want nothing to do with these Christianized pagan feasts and return to the Appointments/Feasts of YHVH as found in Leviticus 23. These are not so called ‘Jewish’ feasts they are YHVH’s covenantal Appointments (Moadim) with His people.

4. That YHVH has called us to gather on a Shabbat (the Seventh day of the week) and not on the First day of the week.

5. That eating pork and shell fish is an abomination to YHVH.

6. When well-meaning believers proclaim that we are no longer under the law but under grace and you challenge them declaring that the Torah or covenant of YHVH has never been done away with.
Mat 5:17  “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets.1 I did not come to destroy but to complete. Footnote: 1The Law and the Prophets is a term used for the pre-Messianic Scriptures.
Mat 5:18  “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.1 Footnote: 1Lk. 16:17.
Mat 5:19  “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.

7. When you declare that YHVH will once again restore monogamous and polygynous patriarchal families on earth before Yahshua returns – when men take the responsibility of priesthood and not the woman. This issue will even cause your closest friends and family to turn against you.

Gen 39:21  But יהוה was with Yosĕph and extended kindness to him, and He gave him favour in the eyes of the prison warden.
Gen 39:22  And the prison warden gave into the hand of Yosĕph all the prisoners who were in the prison, and whatever was done there was his doing.
Gen 39:23  The prison warden did not look into any point that was under Yosĕph’s hand, because יהוה was with him. And whatever he did, יהוה made it prosper.

Yahshua has promised a great reward for those who are prepared to do “jail time.”

Mar 10:29  יהושע said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for the sake of Me and the Good News,
Mar 10:30  who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, everlasting life.
Mar 10:31  “But many who are first shall be last, and the last first.”

Pro 11:31  See, the righteous in the earth shall be rewarded, How much more the wrong and the sinner!

(Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, Yahweh giver of the Torah – Ameyn
