The Test for Adultery - This Torah portion contains the instruction regarding the “sotah”- which comes from the Hebrew word which means to ‘’go astray.’’
“The ceremony for the sotah, a suspected adulteress who was witnessed going into seclusion with another man, not her husband (despite being warned). This woman is brought to the Temple before the priest where this section of the Torah (5:11-31) is written on parchment and then soaked in water until the ink dissolves. The woman drinks this water mixed with dust. If she indeed willingly committed adultery, her belly miraculously swells, and she dies a gruesome death. If she is unharmed by these waters, she is cleared of any suspicion.”
The rabbis marvel that YHVH would allow His Most Set Apart Name to be ‘’washed away’’ in this manner. Such an action would be unimaginable to a devout Levite or Israelite. This ‘’Sotah’’ ordeal was a sober reminder of both the set apartness of marriage as well as the set apartness of being in a set apart covenant with YHVH.
We will only begin to comprehend the magnitude of this truth when we realize all of mankind’s relationships have deep spiritual roots. And the image of YHVH is especially focused upon a particular relationship, the set apart marital bond between man and his wife or wives. Given its symbolic importance, a distortion or violation of this bond is an act of idolatry and, indeed, a monstrous crime against human nature itself, often suffering the punishment of death. Consequently, anything that perverts, undermines, attacks, violates, replaces, or distorts the sexual fidelity appropriate to marriage between a man and a woman is seen to strike at the very heart of the faith -because sexual behaviour always symbolizes realities greater than itself. By teaching the testing of the unfaithful wife at the instigation the jealous husband, this passage highlights a prominent scriptural theme, that of the testing of the faithfulness of the people of YHVH, as his bride, by the jealous divine husband (cf. Exodus 20:5; 34:14; Deuteronomy 4:24). כי תשׂטה ‘’when she swerves’’ Heb verb ‘’sata’’ a woman who turns aside – ‘’kehilah’’ and ‘’Ekklessia’’ are both feminine nouns describing YHVH’s called out, set apart people – ‘’she’’ has ‘’swerved’’ from the garden to the grave.
Num 5:11 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Num 5:12 “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and
say to them, ‘When any man’s wife turns aside (‘’sotah’’) and has committed a
trespass against him,
Num 5:13 and a man has intercourse with her, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and it is concealed that she has defiled herself, and there was no witness against her, nor was she caught,
CLV 13 that a man who lies with her has an emission of semen, and it is obscured from her husband's eyes, and she conceals that she defiled herself since there was no witness against her, and she was not grabbed with force;"
Num 5:14 and a spirit of jealousy comes upon him
and he becomes jealous of his wife who has defiled herself, or a spirit of
jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife although she has not
defiled herself,
Num 5:15 then the man shall bring his wife to the
priest. And he shall bring the offering for her, one-tenth of an ěphah of
barley flour. He is not to pour oil on it or put frankincense on it, because it
is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing
crookedness to remembrance.
Num 5:16 And the priest shall bring her near, and
shall make her stand before יהוה.
Num 5:17 And the priest shall take set-apart water
in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the
Dwelling Place and put it into the water.
Num 5:18 And the priest shall make the woman stand
before יהוה, and shall uncover the woman’s head, and
put the offering for remembering in her hands, which is the grain offering of
jealousy, while the priest holds in his hand the bitter water that brings a
curse.
Num 5:19 And the priest shall make her swear, and
say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned
aside to uncleanness under your husband’s authority, be free from this
bitter water that brings a curse.
Num 5:20 “But if you have turned aside under your
husband’s authority, and if you have defiled yourself and some man other
than your husband has lain with you” –
Num 5:21 then the priest shall make the woman swear
with the oath of the curse, and he shall say to the woman – “יהוה make you a curse and an oath among your
people, when יהוה makes your thigh waste away and your belly
swell, (maybe the husband was at his wits end with his ‘’wondering’’ wife)
Num 5:22 and this water that causes the curse shall
go into your inward parts, and make your belly swell and your thigh waste
away.” And the woman shall say, “Aměn, aměn.”
Num 5:23 And the priest shall write these curses in
a book, and shall wipe them off into the bitter water,
Num 5:24 and shall make the woman drink the bitter
water that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter
her to become bitter.
Num 5:25 And the priest shall take the grain
offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before יהוה, and bring it to the
slaughter-place.
Num 5:26 And the priest shall take a hand filled
with the offering, as its remembrance offering, and burn it on the
slaughter-place, and afterward make the woman drink the water.
Num 5:27 And when he has made her drink the water,
then it shall be, if she has defiled herself and has committed a trespass
against her husband, that the water that brings the curse shall enter her and
become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall waste away, and
the woman shall become a curse among her people.
Num 5:28 But if the woman has not defiled herself,
and is clean, then she shall be clear and shall conceive children.
Num 5:29 This is the Torah of jealousy, when a wife
turns aside under her husband’s authority and defiles herself,
Num 5:30 or when a spirit of jealousy comes upon a
man, and he becomes jealous of his wife. Then he shall make the woman stand
before יהוה, and the priest shall do to her all this
Torah.
Num 5:31 And the man shall be clear from crookedness, but the woman bear her crookedness.’ ”
Num 5:29 ‘This is the Torah of jealousy,(Heb ‘’kinah’’ sexual passion or religious zeal) when a wife turns aside under her husband’s authority (or towards another)and defiles herself,
‘’ The rite of jealousy is particularly related to an event recorded in the Exodus narrative. In Exodus 32, while Moshe was up on Mount Sinai receiving the covenant from YHVH, the children of Israel were ‘’whoring’’ with a false god – the golden calf. Moshe responded by breaking the tablets of the covenant, burning, and grinding the golden calf to powder, scattering it on water and forcing the Israelites to drink it. The Levites were then instructed to kill 3,000 of their Israelite brethren, after which Moshe interceded for the nation and the people were plagued.’’

‘’Tzara at’’ is the only disease mentioned in the Torah and the blood of Messiah is the only lasting cure for sin sickness and disease.
From the garden to the golden calf and from the golden calf to the grave we all have gone astray (sotah) and in the last days we will all drink from this cup of affliction to determine our faithfulness.
Isa 53:6 We all, like sheep, went astray, each one of us has turned to his own way. And יהוה has laid on Him the crookedness of us all.
Jer 3:20 “But indeed as a wife betrays her husband, so have you betrayed Me, O house of Yisra’ěl,” declares יהוה.
What is the cure for our unfaithfulness? There doesn’t appear to be a cure and the problem appears to be getting out of control. Faithfulness is evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in your life.
Mat 24:10 “And then many shall stumble, and they shall deliver up
one another, and shall hate one another.
Mat 24:11 “And many false prophets shall rise up and lead many
astray.
Mat 24:12 “And because of the increase in lawlessness, (Torahlessness) the
love of many shall become cold.

Mat 24:14 “And this Good News of the reign shall be proclaimed in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come. (Most probably a completely different gospel (Good news) to what many are preaching today)
How do we approach our dilemma?
1Jn 2:3 And by this we know that we know Him,(enjoying intimacy with the Father) if we guard His commands.[a] Footnote: aSee 1Jn_3:6. 1Jn 2:4 The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (scripturally – knowing someone implies intimacy)
Gal 4:6 And because you are sons, Elohim has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”
Jas 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose?
Does the Spirit which dwells in us intensely crave unto envy?
Exo 34:14 for you do not bow yourselves to another mighty one, for יהוה, whose Name is jealous, is a jealous Ěl –
The evidence that the Set Apart Spirit lives within a believer is that believers will become aware of any influence that seeks to separate themselves from the pure devotion and worship of YHVH alone.
Joh 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him. Joh 4:24 “Elohim is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth.”

14:16 “And I shall ask the Father, and He shall give you another Helper,
to stay with you forever – Joh 14:17 the Spirit of the Truth, whom
the world is unable to receive, because it does not see Him or know Him. But
you know Him, for He stays with you and shall be in you.
Joh 14:21 “He who possesses My commands and guards them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and manifest Myself to him.” Joh 14:23 יהושע answered him, “If anyone loves Me, he shall guard My Word. And My Father shall love him, and We shall come to him and make Our stay with him. Joh 14:24 “He who does not love Me does not guard My Words. And the Word which you hear is not Mine but of the Father Who sent Me. Joh 14:26 “But the Helper, the Set-apart Spirit, whom the Father shall send in My Name, He shall teach you all, and remind you of all that I said to you.
The evidence that you have filled with the Spirit is that you will walk in the righteousness of the Torah - Rom 8:4 so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (This is the reason why ‘’matan ha torah and shavuot’’ are on the same day)
Eph 1:13 in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your deliverance, in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Set-apart Spirit of promise, Eph 1:14 who is the pledge (Gk ‘’arrabon’’ or engagement ring) of our inheritance, until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His esteem. 2Co 11:1 I wish that you would bear with me in a little folly. But indeed, you are bearing with me. 2Co 11:2 For I am jealous for you with a jealousy according to Elohim. For I gave you in marriage to one husband, to present you as an innocent maiden to Messiah. 2Co 11:3 But I am afraid, lest, as the serpent deceived Ḥawwah (Eve)by his trickery, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah. 2Co 11:4 For, indeed, if he who is coming proclaims another יהושע,[a] whom we have not proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different Good News which you have not accepted, you put up with it well enough! We have no excuse for being unfaithful – YHVH has given us everything we
need for life and set apartness - Confirm Your Calling and Election – Mt 22:29
2Pe 1:3 as His Mighty-like power has given to us all we need for
life and reverence, through the knowledge of Him who called us to esteem and
uprightness.
2Pe 1:4 Through these there have been given to us exceedingly great
and precious promises, so that through these you might be partakers of the
Mighty-like nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world, caused by
lust.
2Pe 1:5 And for this reason do your utmost to add to your belief
uprightness, to uprightness knowledge,
2Pe 1:6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control endurance, to
endurance reverence,
2Pe 1:7 to reverence brotherly affection, and to brotherly
affection love.
2Pe 1:8 For if these are in you and increase, they cause you to be
neither inactive nor without fruit in the knowledge of our Master יהושע
Messiah.
2Pe 1:9 For he in whom these are not present is blind, being
shortsighted, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his old
sins.
2Pe 1:10 For this reason, brothers, all the more do your utmost to
make firm your calling and choosing[a], for if you are doing these matters you

2Pe 1:11 for in this way an entrance into the everlasting reign of our Master and Saviour יהושע Messiah shall be richly supplied to you.
Satan has been working relentlessly to ‘’impregnate’’ YHVH’s Bride with an unrighteous impure seed – from the garden to the grave – and most of His Bride willingly and openly have received this ‘’strange seed’’ and have produced ‘’offspring’’ who willingly follow in their footsteps. This has become so bad that most believers are now almost entirely assimilated into the Spirit of this world. (49th level of assimilation)
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.
Yet, in spite of all His promises and goodness towards us, how many believers ‘’honour’’ the sabbath today? The sabbath ( Shabbat) is the ‘’sign’’ that we belong to Him and are in a covenant with Him. Most Christians refuse to honour the sabbath. Therefore the seal or sign of YHVH’s ownership is not upon them. (unless they repent)
Exo 31:13 “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, saying, ‘My
Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign[a] between Me and you throughout
your generations, to know that I, יהוה, am setting you apart. Footnote: aAlso see
Eze_20:12 and Eze_20:20.
Exo 31:16 ‘And the children of Yisra’ěl shall guard the Sabbath, to perform the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. Exo 31:17 ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ěl it is a sign forever.
The current praise and worship movement is most probably one of the
greatest sources of ‘’strange seed’’
entering into the hearts and minds of many believers - The matter of who YHVH
really is will once again be settled by His true worshippers as was the case
when Korach challenged YHVH’s appointment of Moshe –
‘’Korah led a revolt against Moshe; he died, along with all his co-conspirators, when YHVH caused "the earth to open her mouth and swallow him and all that appertained to them" (Numbers 16:31–33). Immediately after this event, YHVH's anger burned, and a plague struck killing another 14,700 Israelites.’’
We are reminded that in
this portion the unfaithful woman had possibly received seed from another man.
The question for us today is how much impure and mixed seed are we receiving
from strange teachings, false worship, and unrighteous commitments? The
evidence is overwhelming – bareness and confusion. The tragedy is that many do
not recognize or acknowledge their condition until it’s too late.
1Pe 1:22 Now that you have
cleansed your lives in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned
brotherly love, love one another fervently with a clean heart,
1Pe 1:23 having been born again –
not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible – through the living Word of Elohim,
which remains forever,
A prophetic word concerning the spirit of Jezebel – In essence the Jezebel spirit is against righteous intimacy and despises righteous leadership and hates YHVH.
‘’The ‘’ekklessia,’’ like the feminist
movement has a spirit soaked in bitterness and resentment against male/patriarchal
authority, and view men as a means to an end for their own desire to rule and
dominate. They view men’s primary usefulness as sperm donors and don’t really
care where and how they obtain it and will raise their offspring to disrespect
and dishonour their life source.’’
Guarding the Torah of Messiah, through
the enabling of the Set apart Spirit, provides the only safeguard against such
idolatry.

Our whole life
was meant to be consumed in adoration and obedience to YHVH our Father as shown
to us by His only brought forth Son - Yahshua. We have done the exact opposite
– we have become a ‘’Jesus cult’’ and have placed ‘’Jesus’’ at the centre of
our adoration, worship and affection. (our golden calf)
We see this spirit
increasingly manifest itself in many homes today – the wife cannot submit to
her husband, so she forms a spiritually incestuous relationship with her pastor
or with her son or sons – often undermining her husbands authority and seeking
to establish her own authority over the home.
Rev 2:18 “And
to the messenger of the assembly in Thyatira write, ‘This says the Son of
Elohim, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like
burnished brass: Dan_10:5-6. Rev 2:19 “I know your works,
and love, and service, and belief, and your endurance. And as for your works,

that you allow that woman Izeḇel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and
