Lev 5:1 ‘And when a being sins in that he has heard
the voice of swearing, and is a witness, or has seen, or has known, but does
not reveal it, he shall bear his crookedness.
Hebrew word for
swearing is H423 'âlâh BDB Definition: 1)
oath 2) oath of covenant 3) curse 3a) from God 3b) from men 4) execration.
Here
are some scriptural examples of where YHVH makes oaths.
Gen 22:15-18 YHVH
makes an oath to Avraham that because of his willingness to offer up his only
son, that through Avraham’s seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
This is in fact the essence of the Good News.
Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, having foreseen that
Elohim would declare right the nations by (Gk – “ek” meaning “out”) belief,(Gk
– “pisteous” noun not a verb) announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand,
saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,”
Another example of
where YHVH makes an oath:
Heb 3:10 “Therefore I was grieved with that
generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not
known My ways.’
Heb 3:11 “As I swore in My wrath, ‘If they shall enter
into My rest...’ ”1 Footnote: 1Ps. 95:7-11.
1Co 10:11 And all these came upon them as examples, and
they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,
1Co 10:12 so that he who thinks he stands, let him take
heed lest he fall.
Literary in Lev 5:1
the Hebrew says if you are a witness to someone declaring an oath or a curse and
someone testifies falsely or he remains silent ( Heb im lo yagid)– knowing the
truth - his iniquity will be upon him.
Heb 7:21 For they indeed became priests without an
oath, but He became Priest with an oath by Him who said to Him, “יהוה has sworn and
shall not regret, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Malkitseḏeq.’
”Ps 110:4
If
we or anyone bears false witness to these oaths of YHVH, they will bear their
iniquity.
Let us look to Yahshua
who alone gives the Torah (YHVH’s covenant) its deepest possible meaning. It
was Yahshua that embodies both the fullness of YHVH’s Covenant and Curse. When
we witness Yahshua being misrepresented and we remain silent we are guilty
before YHVH.
The Hebrew word for
crookedness is “avon” it can also mean “iniquity” which implies ongoing
continual disobedience to YHVH’s Torah.
Once again we need to
come to YHVH with an offering and implore Him to show us where there is
evidence of this guilt (asham) in our lives for having made this mistake
(shagag) Where have we kept silence on this issue when we should have spoken
out concerning this issue.
There are times when
we are to remain silent. Our silence can also be a witness against our own iniquity
– lawlessness.
Mat 7:6 “Do not give what is set-apart to the dogs,
nor throw your pearls before the pigs, lest they trample them under their feet,
and turn and tear you in pieces.
Isa 59:14 And right-ruling1 is driven back,
and righteousness1 stands far off. For truth has fallen in the
street, and right is unable to enter. Footnote: 1Amos 5:7.
Isa 59:15 And the truth is lacking, and whoever turns
away from evil makes himself a prey. And יהוה saw, and it
displeased Him that there was no right-ruling.
Isa 59:16 And He
saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no intercessor. So
His own arm saved for Him, and His righteousness upheld him.
Ecc 3:1 For every matter there is an appointed
time, even a time for every pursuit under the heavens:
Ecc 3:7 a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to
be silent, and a time to speak;
Amo 5:13 Therefore the wise keep silent at that time,
for it is an evil time.
If
we do not “reveal it” (im lo yagid) he will bear the iniquity or consequence of
this sin.
Eze 3:18 “When I say to the wrong1, ‘You
shall certainly die,’ and you have not warned him, nor spoken to warn the wrong
from his wrong way, to save his life, that same wrong man shall die in his
crookedness, and his blood I require at your hand. Footnote: 1This
passage is almost the same as in 18:20-32 and 33:8-20.
Eze 3:19 “But if you have warned the wrong and he does
not turn from his wrong, nor from his wrong way, he shall die in his
crookedness, and you have delivered your being.
Act 20:26 “Therefore I witness to you this day that I
am clear from the blood of all.
Act 20:27 “For I kept not back from declaring to you
all the counsel of Elohim.
Act 20:28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all
the flock, among which the Set-apart Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd
the assembly of Elohim which He has purchased with His own blood.
Act 20:29 “For I know this, that after my departure
savage wolves1 shall come in among you, not sparing the flock.
Footnote: 1See Mt. 7:15-23, Mt. 10:16, Lk. 10:3, John 10:12.
Act 20:30 “Also from among yourselves men shall arise,
speaking distorted teachings, to draw away the taught ones after
themselves.
Lev 5:2 ‘Or when a being touches any unclean matter,
or the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean livestock, or the
carcass of unclean creeping creatures, and it has been hidden from him, he is
unclean and guilty.
Lev 5:3 ‘Or when he touches uncleanness of man, any
of his uncleanness by which he is unclean, and it has been hidden from him,
when he shall know it, then he shall be guilty.
“Contamination of set apart people”
Mat 23:27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! Because you are like whitewashed tombs which outwardly indeed look
well, but inside are filled with dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.
Mat 23:28 “So you too outwardly indeed appear righteous
to men, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.1
Footnote:1See 5:20.
Not only unclean and forbidden food can contaminate us, also the
uncleanness of men.
Jud 1:11 Woe to them! Because they have gone in the
way of Qayin, and gave themselves to the delusion of Bilʽam for a reward, and
perished in the rebellion of Qoraḥ.
Jud 1:12
These are rocky reefs in your love feasts, feasting with you, feeding
themselves without fear, waterless clouds borne about by the winds, late autumn
trees without fruit, twice dead,
pulled up by the roots, (we are defiled when we come into the presence of dead
things)
Jud 1:13
wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shame, straying stars for
whom blackness of darkness is kept forever.
2Jn 1:6 And this is the love, that we walk according
to His commands.1 This is the command, that as you have heard from
the beginning, you should walk in it. Footnote: 1See 1 John 5:3, and

2Jn 1:9 Everyone who is transgressing and not staying
in the teaching of Messiah does not possess Elohim.1 The one who
stays in the teaching of Messiah possesses both the Father and the Son.2

2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring
this teaching, do not receive him into your house nor greet him,
2Jn 1:11 for he who greets him shares in his wicked
works.
Lev 5:4 ‘Or when a being swears, speaking rashly with
his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever it is that a man swears rashly with
an oath, and it has been hidden from him, when he shall know it, then he shall
be guilty of one of these.
Lev 5:5 ‘And it shall be, when he is guilty of one of
these, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned,
Lev 5:6 and shall bring his guilt offering to יהוה for his sin
which he has sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a female goat as a sin
offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin.
The sin of false or unkept oaths.
Let us pause and consider for a moment all the marriage
vows and promises that have been broken in our generation.
Lev 5:7 ‘And if he
is unable to bring a lamb, then he shall bring to יהוה, he who has
sinned, two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and the
other for a burnt offering.
Lev 5:8 ‘And he
shall bring them to the priest, who shall bring near that which is for the sin
offering first, and wring off its head from its neck, but not sever it.
Lev 5:9 ‘And he
shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar,
and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is
a sin offering.
Lev 5:10 ‘And he
shall prepare the second as a burnt offering according to the right-ruling, and
the priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin which he has sinned, and
it shall be forgiven him.
Lev 5:11 ‘But if
he is unable to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then he who sinned
shall bring for his offering one-tenth of an ĕphah of fine flour as a sin
offering. He puts no oil on it, nor does he put any frankincense on it, for it
is a sin offering.
Lev 5:12 ‘And he
shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his hand filled with it
as a remembrance portion, and burn it on the altar according to the offerings
made by fire to יהוה. It is a sin
offering.
Lev 5:13 ‘And the
priest shall make atonement for him, for his sin that he has sinned in any of
these, and it shall be forgiven him. And it shall be the priest’s, like a grain
offering.’ ”
Lev 5:14 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Lev 5:15 “When a
being commits a trespass, and has sinned by mistake against the set-apart
matters of יהוה, then he shall
bring to יהוה as his guilt offering a ram, a perfect
one, from the flock, with your valuation in sheqels of silver according to the
sheqel of the set-apart place, as a guilt offering.
Lev 5:16 “And he
shall make good for the sin that he has done against that which is set-apart,
and shall add one-fifth to it and give it to the priest. And the priest shall
make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and it shall be
forgiven him.
Lev 5:17 “And when
any being sins, and has done what is not to be done, against any of the
commands of יהוה, though he
knew it not, yet he shall be guilty and shall bear his crookedness.
Lev 5:18 “Then he
shall bring to the priest a ram, a perfect one, from the flock, with your
valuation, as a guilt offering. And the priest shall make atonement for his mistake
he committed unintentionally, though he did not know it, and it shall be
forgiven him –
Lev 5:19 it is a
guilt offering, he was truly guilty before יהוה.”
Lev 6:1 And יהוה spoke to
Mosheh, saying,
Lev 6:2 “When any
being sins, and committed a trespass (Heb – ma al to act treacherously or
unfaithfully) against יהוה, and has lied
(kachash – to deceive) to his neighbour about a deposit,(
pledge, security, deposit) or
about a robbery, or shall extort(violate or defraud) from his neighbour,
Lev 6:3 or has
found what was lost and has lied concerning it, or did swear falsely, so that
he sins in regard to any one of all these that a man does,
Lev 6:4 then it
shall be, when he sins, and shall be guilty, that he shall return what he took
by robbery, or what he has extorted, or the deposit which was deposited with
him, or the lost item which he found,
Lev 6:5 or all
that about which he swore falsely. He shall repay its total value, add
one-fifth more to it, and give it to whom it belongs, on the day of his guilt
offering.
Lev 6:6 “Then he
brings his guilt offering to יהוה, a ram, a
perfect one, from the flock, with your valuation, as a guilt offering, to the
priest.
Lev 6:7 “And the
priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה, and he shall
be forgiven for whatever he did that made him guilty.”
Many have been robbed and defrauded of their rich
inheritance that was secured for us by Yahshua.
It seems that some religious leaders put continual guilt
upon people so that they can rob them and enrich themselves.

to the tradition of men, according to the elementary matters of the world,1

been made complete in Him, who is the Head of all principality and authority.
Col 2:18 Let no one deprive you of the prize, one who

Eph 1:23 which is
His body, the completeness of Him who fills all in all.
Let us remind ourselves that this Torah portion is speaking
about the iniquity of a Torah community.
Failure to correct and be corrected in these issues will
lead to “karet” being cut off from the people of YHVH. To say and teach that
Yahshua came to do away with the Torah is to rob us of our inheritance.
