Parashat 48 Portion 164 ‘’Ki tetzei’’ Deut 22:6-23:9 Is 31:5-9 + 32:14-18

Baruch atah, YHVH Eloheinu, Melech haolam, asher kid’shanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu laasok b’divrei Torah

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah – Amein

כי יקרא קן־צפור ‘’when you accidentally encounter a birds nest’’

Deu 22:6  “When you come upon a bird’s nest along the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, with the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young –

Deu 22:7  let the mother go without fail, and take the young for yourself, so that it might be well with you, and that you shall prolong your days.

קָרָא Strongs 7122 - A primitive root; to encounter, whether accidentally or in a hostile manner: - befall, (by) chance, (cause to) come (upon), fall out, happen, meet.

This ‘’seemingly’’ least of all commandments may not be such an ‘’insignificant encounter’’ as some may believe. It may be YHVH’s way of revealing the true condition of our hearts.

The consequences of ignoring this instruction will have serious consequences – see vs 7 The phrase ‘’so that you may prolong your days’’ (includes millennium) is used by Moshe 30 times in the book of Deuteronomy – always regarding obeying YHVH’s instructions. Isa 65:20  “No more is an infant from there going to live but a few days, nor an old man who does not complete his days, for the youth dies one hundred years old, but the sinner being one hundred years old shall be lightly esteemed. Isa 65:21  “And they shall build houses and inhabit them, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

Isa 31:5  “Like hovering birds, (Heb A primitive root; to cover – or protect) so does יהוה of hosts protect Yerushalayim – protecting and delivering, passing over and rescuing.” (way of escape)

Isa 31:6  Turn back to Him from whom the children of Yisra’ěl have deeply fallen away.

Isa 31:7  For in that day, let each man reject his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made for yourselves, as a sin.

Isa 31:8  “And Ashshur shall fall by a sword not of man, and a sword not of mankind shall devour him. But he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become slave labour, 2 Kings 19:35 – 185 000 Assyrian soldiers killed by a messenger of YHVH

Isa 31:9  and his strength pass away because of fear, and his commanders shall be afraid of the banner,” declares יהוה, whose light is in Tsiyon and whose furnace is in Yerushalayim.

Isa 32:17  The work of righteousness shall be peace, and the service of righteousness be rest and safety forever.

Isa 32:18  And My people shall dwell in a home of peace, and in safe dwellings, and in undisturbed resting places,

Once again our haftarah portion seems to suggest this the Torah portion can be viewed and best understood in the context of the millennial rule of Messiah.

Deu 4:6  “And you shall guard and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these laws, and they shall say, ‘Only a wise and understanding people is this great nation!’

Deu 4:7  “For what great nation is there which has Elohim so near to it, as יהוה our Elohim is to us, whenever we call on Him?

Deu 4:8  “And what great nation is there that has such laws and righteous right-rulings like all this Torah which I set before you this day?

Deu 4:9  “Only, guard yourself, and guard your life diligently, lest you forget the Words your eyes have seen, and lest they turn aside from your heart all the days of your life. And you shall make them known to your children and your grandchildren.

Deu 22:8  “When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you do not bring blood-guilt on your house when one falls from it.

Deu 22:9  “Do not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.

We are forbidden to ‘’mix or combine’’ ideas from any religion or philosophy which contradicts the teachings and truth of the Torah.

Deu 4:2  “Do not add to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it,[a] so as to guard the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I am commanding you.

Rev 22:14  “Blessed are those doing His commands, so that the authority shall be theirs unto the tree of life, and to enter through the gates into the city. (Only a Torah obedient end time people will be part of the Bride of Messiah)

2Th 2:11  And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood. (consequences of lawlessness – Mat 7:21-23)

Deu 22:10  “Do not plough with an ox and a donkey together.

Deu 22:11  “Do not put on a garment of different kinds, of wool and linen together.

Deu 22:12  “Make tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.

When we wear ‘’tzitzit’’ we are declaring that we do not want to be unequally yoked with people who do not believe it’s important or necessary to obey the ‘’tzitzit’’ command or any other command. (we don’t reject them; we can’t be unequally yoked with them)

Num 15:37  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Num 15:38  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and you shall say to them to make tzitzit[b] on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue cord in the tzitzit[b] of the corners. Footnote: bSee Explanatory Notes - “Tzitzit”.

Num 15:39  “And it shall be to you for a tzitzit[b], and you shall see it, and shall remember all the commands of יהוה and shall do them, and not search after your own heart and your own eyes after which you went whoring, Footnote: bSee Explanatory Notes - “Tzitzit”.

Num 15:40  so that you remember, and shall do all My commands, and be set-apart unto your Elohim.[c] Footnote: cAlso see Exo_20:6, Deu_7:9, Deu_11:1, Deu_30:16, Neh_1:5, Dan_9:4, 1Jn_5:2-3, 2Jn_1:6

Num 15:41  “I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim.”

Laws Concerning Sexual Immorality

Deu 22:13  “When any man takes a wife, and shall go in to her, and shall hate her,

Deu 22:14  and shall make abusive charges against her and bring an evil name on her and say, ‘I took this woman, and when I came to her I did not find her a maiden,’

Deu 22:15  then the father and mother of the young woman shall take and bring out the proof of the girl’s maidenhood to the elders of the city at the gate.

Deu 22:16  “And the girl’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man as wife, and he hates her.

Deu 22:17  And see, he has made abusive charges against her, saying, “I did not find your daughter a maiden,” and yet these are the proofs of my daughter’s maidenhood.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.

Deu 22:18  “And the elders of that city shall take that man and punish him, (Heb ‘’yasar’’ A primitive root; to chastise, literally (with blows)

Deu 25:1  “When there is a dispute between men, then they shall come unto judgment, and they shall be judged, and the righteous declared righteous and the wrongdoer declared wrong.

Deu 25:2  “And it shall be, if the wrongdoer is to be struck, that the judge shall cause him to lie down and be struck in his presence with the number of blows according to his wrong.

Deu 25:3  “Forty strikes he gives him but no more, lest he strike him with many more blows than these, and your brother be degraded before your eyes.

Deu 22:19  and fine him one hundred pieces of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought an evil name on a maiden of Yisra’ěl. And she is to be his wife, he is not allowed to put her away all his days.

Deu 22:20  “But if the matter is true, that the girl was not found a maiden,

Deu 22:21  then they shall bring out the girl to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has done wickedness in Yisra’ěl, to whore in her father’s house. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst.

Deu 22:22  “When a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman. Thus you shall purge the evil from Yisra’ěl.

Deu 22:23  “When a girl who is a maiden is engaged to a husband, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,

Deu 22:24  then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and shall stone them to death with stones, the girl because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has humbled his neighbour’s wife. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst.

Deu 22:25  “But if a man finds the girl who is engaged in the field, and the man takes hold of her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die.

Deu 22:26  “But you shall do no matter to the girl. The girl has no sin worthy of death – for the matter is like a man who rises against his neighbour and murders him – a being –

Deu 22:27  for he found her in the field, and she cried out, the engaged girl, but without anyone to save her.

Deu 22:28  “When a man finds a girl who is a maiden, who is not engaged, and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are found out,

Deu 22:29  then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl’s father fifty pieces of silver, and she is to be his wife because he has humbled her. He is not allowed to put her away all his days.

Deu 22:30  “A man does not take his father’s wife, nor uncover his father’s skirt.a Footnote: aHebrew - kanaph: wing, extremity, border or robe.

Those Excluded from the Assembly

Deu 23:1  “He who is wounded by crushing of testicles or whose penis is cut off, shall not enter into the community of יהוה

Deu 23:2  “A mamzera shall not enter the community of יהוה, even a tenth generation of his shall not enter the community of יהוה. Footnote: aMamzer (Hebrew) - Born from prohibited union – usually some form of incest.

Deu 23:3  “An Ammonite or Mo’aite shall not enter the assembly of יהוה, even a tenth generation of them shall not ever enter the assembly of יהוה, (possible reference to males only)

Deu 23:4  because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way when you came out of Mitsrayim, and because they hired against you Bil‛am son of Be‛or from Pethor of Aram Naharayim, to curse you.

Deu 23:5  “But יהוה your Elohim refused to listen to Bil‛am, and יהוה your Elohim turned the curse into a blessing for you, because יהוה your Elohim loves you.

Deu 23:6  “Do not seek their peace nor their good, all your days, forever.

Deu 23:7  “Do not loathe an Eomite, for he is your brother. Do not loathe a Mitsrian, because you were a stranger in his land.

Deu 23:8  “The children of the third generation born to them do enter the assembly of יהוה

Uncleanness in the Camp

Deu 23:9  “When the camp goes out against your enemies, then you shall guard yourself from every evil matter

Mat 5:17  “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets.[e] I did not come to destroy but to complete. Footnote: eThe Law and the Prophets is a term used for the pre-Messianic Scriptures.

Mat 5:18  “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.[f] Footnote: f Luk_16:17

Mat 5:19  “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.

Mat 5:20  “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall by no means enter into the reign of the heavens.

All those who cling to the righteousness of the Torah will be hated - Joh 15:18  “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

Joh 15:19  “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for that reason the world hates you.

Why is it called “Sinai”? (thorny) Because it is the mountain from which hatred (Hebrew: sina) came down to the Nations-of-the-World. (Shabbos 89a)

Rom 3:1  What then is the advantage of the Yehui, or what is the value of the circumcision?

Rom 3:2  Much in every way! Because firstly indeed, that they were entrusted with the Words of Elohim.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
