Parashat 48 Portion 140 Dev 18:1-20:9 Yer 29:8-14 Acts 3:22-26 Heb 12:25-29 (The Septennial cycle number 146 – Dev 18:1-20:9 Yerm 33:18-26 Rom 13:1-10)

YHVH who created all that exists has chosen to reveal Himself to His creation.
Why would He do such a thing?

I don’t have an answer, but I’m very glad that He did. That’s one of the reasons I worship Him. YHVH didn’t have to do or create anything, but He did, and He revealed Himself to His Creation.

Tragically the greatest error of mankind especially religious mankind was to attempt to re-create the Creator according to their understanding and doctrinal imagination, contrary to Torah. This is called idolatry.
To prevent this grave error YHVH established a Kingdom; a Constitution; a “Ketubah” (marriage agreement) and a Covenant with a Set Apart People – He called Yisrael – This arrangement has never changed and is revealed to us in detail in His Torah.
YHVH appointed His only brought forth Son (before the foundation of the world)– Yahshua Ha Mashiach as King of all kings and imbued him with all of His power and authority to establish YHVH’s desire(Torah) on earth and over all His Creation.

This Torah portion is about YHVH’s appointed authority and instruction for righteous living in His Kingdom.

Rom 13:10  Love does no evil to a neighbour. Therefore, love is completion of the Torah.
Rom 13:11  And do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for us to wake up from sleep, for now our deliverance is nearer than when we did believe.
Rom 13:12  The night is far advanced, the day has come near. So let us put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Rom 13:13  Let us walk becomingly, as in the day, not in wild parties and drunkenness, not in living together and indecencies, not in fighting and envy,
Rom 13:14  but put on the Master יהושע Messiah, and make no provision for the lusts of the flesh.

Rom 13:1  Let every being be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from Elohim, and the authorities that exist are appointed by Elohim.
Rom 13:2  So he who opposes the authority withstands the institution of Elohim, and those who withstand shall bring judgment on themselves.

2 Pet 2:10 speaks of an end time people who despise authority.
How many people who call themselves believers despise the authority of YHVH’s Word?
How many people who call themselves believers despise YHVH’s appointed leaders?

Heb 13:17  Obey those leading you, and be subject to them, for they watch for your lives, as having to give account. Let them do so with joy and not groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

1Pe 2:13  Be subject to every institution of man because of the Master, whether to the sovereign(king) as supreme,
1Pe 2:14  or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of doers of evil, and a praise for those who do good.
1Pe 2:15  Because such is the desire of Elohim, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men,
1Pe 2:16  as free, yet not using your freedom as a cloak for evil, but as servants of Elohim.
1Pe 2:17  Respect all, love the brotherhood, fear Elohim, respect the sovereign.

The consequences of disobeying a policemen or not paying your taxes can be disastrous – how much more disastrous will it be if you disobey the spiritual authorities that YHVH has appointed?
Our Torah portion begins:

Deu 18:1  “The priests, the Lĕwites, all the tribe of Lĕwi, have no part nor inheritance with Yisra’ĕl. They are to eat the offerings of יהוה made by fire, and His inheritance.
Deu 18:2  “But(and) among his brothers Lĕwi has no inheritance. יהוה is his inheritance, as He has spoken to him.

Jer 33:18  ‘And for the priests, the Lĕwites, there is not to cease a man to offer burnt offerings before Me, to kindle grain offerings, and to slaughter continually.’ ”
Hebrew for “continually” is “kol ha amim” or “all the days.”

YHVH did not want the priesthood to accumulate wealth. This was possible for those who were not priests – they could hire or inherit more land, increase their agricultural output etc – not so for the priest. The priest was to live off the offerings THAT BELONGED TO YHVH.
The priesthood was cut off because of the people of YHVH strayed from His Ways.

It is clear from scripture-  – Ezekiel 45:5 – 48:11-13 – that there will be a restored Levitical Priesthood operating during the millennium.
Contrary to the dispensational teaching of the church - YHVH never intended that every believer functions as a Cohen or priest in the Temple or Tabernacle.

Definition of Dispensationalism- “It is a Christian evangelical, futurist, Biblical interpretation that believes that God has related to human beings in different ways under different Biblical covenants in a series of "dispensations," or periods in history.” Wikipedia.

Dispensationalist will use a scripture like 1 Pet 2:9 to prove that the Old Testament Levitical Priesthood was done away with and is replaced by a new Christian priesthood.

1Pe 2:9  But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,

This scripture was not written to all believers, it was written to a dedicated set apart group of people who were called to dedicate themselves to the service or priesthood of YHVH.
It is impossible to be a priest unto YHVH and ignore Torah. You can only teach the erroneous doctrine of “priesthood of all believers” if you do away with the Torah.
The following scripture serves as a sober reminder of a remnant priesthood that will form part of the first resurrection:

Rev 20:6  Blessed and set-apart is the one having part in the first resurrection. The second death possesses no authority over these, but they shall be priests(Kohanim) of Elohim and of Messiah, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Rev 20:7  And when the thousand years have ended, Satan shall be released from his prison,

In the apostolic writings Shaul speaks of a Priestly leadership in the assembly.

Eph 4:11  And He Himself gave some as emissaries, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as shepherds and teachers
Eph 4:12  for the perfecting of the set-apart ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah,
Eph 4:13  until we all come to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the completeness of Messiah,
Eph 4:14  so that we should no longer be children, tossed and borne about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men, in cleverness, unto the craftiness of leading astray,1 Footnote: 15:6, also 2 Cor. 10:5, 2 Cor. 11:3-14, Gal. 1:6-9, 2 Tim. 3:1-8, 2 Tim. 4:2-4, 2 Peter 2:2-22, Jud. vv. 10-19.
Eph 4:15  but, maintaining the truth in love, we grow up in all respects into Him who is the head, Messiah,
Eph 4:16  from whom the entire body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the working by which each part does its share, causes growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
Eph 4:17  So this I say, and witness in the Master, that you should no longer walk as the gentiles walk,1 in the futility of their mind, Footnote: 11 Cor. 12:2, and Jer. 10:2.
Eph 4:18  having been darkened in their understanding, having been estranged from the life of Elohim, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart,

The goal of such a so called “five fold ministry” was to establish a unity of the One faith that existed before the foundation of the world. It was not a “new” teaching discovered by the church. (Eph 4:5,6 – Yesh 66:21)

Deu 18:3  “And this is the priest’s right from the people, from those who bring an offering, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the stomach;
Deu 18:4  the first-fruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you give to him.
Deu 18:5  “For יהוה your Elohim has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to serve in the Name of יהוה, him and his sons forever.
Deu 18:6  “And when the Lĕwite comes from one of your gates, from where he has sojourned among all Yisra’ĕl, and shall come with all the desire of his being to the place which יהוה chooses,
Deu 18:7  then he shall serve in the Name of יהוה his Elohim, like all his brothers the Lĕwites, who are standing there before יהוה.
Deu 18:8  “They are to have portion for portion to eat, besides what comes from the sale of his inheritance.
Deu 18:9  “When you come into the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, do not learn to do according to the abominations of those gentiles.
Deu 18:10  “Let no one be found among you who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practises divination, or a user of magic, or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer,
Deu 18:11  or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
Deu 18:12  “For whoever does these are an abomination to יהוה, and because of these abominations יהוה your Elohim drives them out from before you.
Deu 18:13  “Be perfect before יהוה your Elohim,
Deu 18:14  for these nations whom you are possessing do listen to those using magic and to diviners. But as for you, יהוה your Elohim has not appointed such for you.
Deu 18:15  “יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers. Listen to Him,
Deu 18:16  according to all you asked of יהוה your Elohim in Ḥorĕḇ in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of יהוה my Elohim, nor let me see this great fire any more, lest I die.’
Deu 18:17  “And יהוה said to me, ‘What they have spoken is good.
Deu 18:18  ‘I shall raise up for them a Prophet like you out of the midst of their brothers. And I shall put My Words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
Deu 18:19  ‘And it shall be, the man who does not listen to My Words which He speaks in My Name, I require it of him.

This is clearly a reference to Messiah as attested to in Stephen’s last sermon before he was stoned.

Act 7:37  “This is the Mosheh who said to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.’

Deu 18:20  ‘But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My Name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other mighty ones, even that prophet shall die.’

2Pe 1:21  for prophecy never came by the desire of man, but men of Elohim spoke, being moved by the Set-apart Spirit.

Rev 19:10  …I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers who possess the witness of יהושע. Worship Elohim! For the witness of יהושע is the spirit of prophecy.”

Deu 18:21  “And when you say in your heart, ‘How do we know the word which יהוה has not spoken?’ –
Deu 18:22  when the prophet speaks in the Name of יהוה and the word is not, or comes not, that is the word which יהוה has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
Deu 19:1  “When יהוה your Elohim cuts off the nations whose land יהוה your Elohim is giving you, and you dispossess them and dwell in their cities and in their houses,
Deu 19:2  separate three cities for yourself in the midst of your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you to possess.
Deu 19:3  “Prepare a way for yourself, and divide into three parts the border of your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you to inherit, that anyone who killed someone shall flee there.
Deu 19:4  “And this is the matter of the one who killed someone who flees there and live: He who smites his neighbour unintentionally, not having hated him in time past,
Deu 19:5  even he who goes to the forest with his neighbour to cut timber, and his hand swings a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbour so that he dies – let him flee to one of these cities and live,
Deu 19:6  lest the revenger of blood, while his displeasure is hot, pursue the one who killed someone and overtake him, because the way is long, and shall smite him, though he was not worthy of death, since he had not hated him before.
Deu 19:7  “Therefore I am commanding you, saying, ‘Separate three cities for yourself.’
Deu 19:8  “And if יהוה your Elohim enlarges your border, as He swore to your fathers, and has given you the land which He promised to give to your fathers –
Deu 19:9  when you guard all this command to do it, which I am commanding you today, to love יהוה your Elohim and to walk in His ways all the days – then you shall add three more cities for yourself besides these three,
Deu 19:10  so that innocent blood is not shed in the midst of your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you as an inheritance, or blood-guilt shall be upon you.
Deu 19:11  “But when anyone hates his neighbour, and shall lie in wait for him and rise against him and smite the life from him so that he dies, then he shall flee to one of these cities,
Deu 19:12  and the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and give him into the hand of the revenger of blood, and he shall die.
Deu 19:13  “Your eye shall not pardon him, but you shall purge the blood of innocent blood from Yisra’ĕl, so that it might be well with you.

Accidental death –The Torah teaches that until sin is entirely removed from our existence, we will deal with the sorrows and woes of everyday life.

Deu 19:14  “Do not remove your neighbour’s boundary, which those in the past have set, in your inheritance which you inherit in the land that יהוה your Elohim is giving you to possess.
Deu 19:15  “One witness does not rise up against a man concerning any crookedness or any sin that he commits. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses a matter is established.
Deu 19:16  “When a malicious witness rises up against any man to accuse him of turning aside,
Deu 19:17  then both men who have the dispute shall stand before יהוה, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days.
Deu 19:18  “And the judges shall diligently search and see if the witness is a false witness, who has falsely accused his brother,
Deu 19:19  then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst.
Deu 19:20  “And let the rest hear and fear, and never again do this evil matter in your midst.
Deu 19:21  “And let your eye not pardon, life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

Compensation must be made for damages incurred against a fellow Yisraelite.

Deu 20:1  “When you go out to battle against your enemies, and shall see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them, for יהוה your Elohim, who brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim, is with you.
Deu 20:2  “And it shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that the priest shall come and speak to the people,
Deu 20:3  and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Yisra’ĕl: You are drawing near today to battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not fear, or tremble, or be afraid before them,
Deu 20:4  for יהוה your Elohim is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’
Deu 20:5  “And the officers shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is the man who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.
Deu 20:6  ‘And who is the man who has planted a vineyard and has not begun to use it? Let him also go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man should begin to use it.
Deu 20:7  ‘And who is the man who is engaged to a woman and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man take her.’
Deu 20:8  “And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘Who is the man who is afraid and tender of heart? Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brothers faint like his heart.’
Deu 20:9  “And it shall be, when the officers have finished speaking to the people, that they shall appoint commanders of the divisions to lead the people.

Parashat 47/48 Portion 138 Dev 16:13-22 Micah 6:6-8 Yoh 7:14-24

During this time of the year devout Jewish people and some Messianic believers enter into a time of fasting and reflect on the tragic events in the history of our people that brought about much pain and destruction to the nation of Yisrael.  During the Messianic reign these fast times will be turned into times of joy because never again in the history of YHVH’s people will these tragic events be repeated.

Zec 8:19  “Thus said יהוה of hosts, ‘The fast of the fourth, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth months, are to be joy and gladness, and pleasant appointed times for the house of Yehuḏah – and they shall love the truth and the peace.’
“The fast of the 17th of the fourth Hebrew month, known as Shivah Asar B’Tammuz, is the start of a three-week mourning period for the destruction of Jerusalem and the two Set apart Temples.
The fast actually commemorates five tragic events that occurred on this date:
  1. Moshe broke the tablets when he saw the Hebrew people worshipping the Golden Calf.
  2. During the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem, the Hebrews were forced to cease offering the daily sacrifices due to the lack of sheep.
  3. Apostomos burned the set apart Torah.
  4. An idol was placed in the set apart Temple.
  5. The walls of Jerusalem were breached by the Romans, in 69 CE, after a lengthy siege. (Three weeks later, after the Jews put up a valiant struggle, the Romans destroyed the second set apart Temple on the 9th of Av.)
The Jerusalem Talmud maintains that this is also the date when the Babylonians breached the walls of Jerusalem on their way to destroying the first Temple.
From a halachic view abstaining from food and drink is the external element of a fast day. On a deeper level, a fast day is an auspicious day, a day when YHVH is accessible, waiting for us to repent.
The sages explain: “Every generation for which the Temple is not rebuilt, it is as though the Temple was destroyed for that generation.” A fast day is not only a sad day, but an opportune day. It’s a day when we are empowered to fix the cause of that destruction, so that our long exile will be ended and we will find ourselves living in messianic times; may that be very soon.

On this day of the 17th of the Fourth month healthy adults—bar- or bat-mitzvah age and older—abstain from eating or drinking between dawn and nightfall.” End quote.

This Torah portion has been adapted from the Triennial Cycle to coincide with the Septennial Torah Cycle – Number  145 - Dev 16:18-17:20. Psalms 120-122. Ashlmatah/Prophetic lesson - Yesh 56:1-9 and 57:19.    Nazarene Talmud – Mark 15:16-21, Luke 23:26-32, Rom 12:9-31 and Mat 27:3-10.

We start with a commentary of Psalms 120 – 122  by a Dr Cooper.

Quote: The book of Psalms is divided into five sections – one section for each one of the books of the Torah.

The Songs of Ascents: Psalms 120 thru 134
The Songs of Ascents, fifteen in number, hold a unique position in the Psalter. They are Psalms 120 thru 134. Various theories have been advanced by scholars in interpreting the significance of these psalms. The word “ascents” is what its name implies in English, namely, “goings up.” Other scholars, with greater probability, have assumed that the word, ascents, refers to Israel's going up to Jerusalem (which was in the high mountains of Judea) at the three annual feasts. Still other students of the Word think that we are to interpret the word ascents spiritually and understand that these songs are speaking of progress and development in the spiritual life. In that event, this development is spoken of in terms of scaling some heights
The explanation which seems to coincide with all of the facts as they appear in this collection of psalms is that our term, ascents, speaks of Israel's return to YHVH and restoration to fellowship with the Almighty in terms of the Hebrews going up from all parts of the land to Jerusalem to appear before YHVH and to worship Him there. When all of these psalms are studied, it will be seen that they deal specifically with the return of Israel to YHVH and restoration to the land and to spiritual communion with Him. When Israel does these things, she will become the channel of world blessing, being no longer the tail of the nations, but the head.
Psalm 120: The Plight of the Russian Jews
With this general survey of the songs of ascents in mind, let us now turn specifically to the first one, Psalm 120, and study its message.
As the subtitle of this article indicates, this psalm deals with the situation of the Russian Jews. The words of this song are as follows:
120:1 In my distress I cried unto YHVH, And he answered me.
120:2 Deliver my soul, o YHVH, from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue.
120:3 What shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?
120:4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, With coals of juniper.
120:5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Qĕḏar (translated in English as Kedar)!
120:6 My soul hath long had her dwelling With him that hateth peace.
120:7 I am for peace: But when I speak, they are for war.
From verse 5 it is clear that the writer identifies himself with the Jews who live in Moscow, Russia, and also in Qĕḏar (Kedar), which was in the general region lying between the Caspian and Black Seas. Thus we may conclude that the psalmist, whoever he was, in vision and by the Spirit of YHVH, was carried forward to the very close of the present age and was transported in his vision up to Russia and became the spokesman for the unfortunate Russian Jews of the present era.
A Prayer for Deliverance
In verses 1-4 the psalmist, by the Spirit of YHVH, enters into the experiences of the poor suffering Russian Jews of the present time and leads them in a petition as they plead for deliverance from the all but unbearable bondage and slavery in which they are held.
In verse 1 the author states that he had been in distress, but had called upon YHVH and that the He had answered prayer by delivering him. It is a wonderful thing to have dealings with YHVH and to look to Him for complete deliverance from all troubles. YHVH is a prayer-answering Elohim.
In verse 2 appears the prayer which the Russian Jews will make before the Almighty. They will realize the satanic deceitfulness of the propaganda machine of the Russian Government. Thus they will pray to be delivered “... from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue.” According to news reports the fundamental basic principle of the Soviet Government is that of deception and lying. The Russians have had a cold war on for years and doubtless will continue it. The gains that they have made have been largely brought about by their deceitful propaganda.
Continuing his prophecy, the writer of Psalm 120 turns directly to a future ruler of Russia and asks him this question:
What shall be given unto thee,
and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?” (vs. 3)
This language is addressed to one who is deceitful: “... Thou deceitfultongue?” While we recognize that the recent rulers of Russia have had deceitful tongues, this is not addressed to them, but to a successor who will suffer under the mighty titanic strokes of the Almighty. Who is this one? When we turn to Ezekiel 38:1 - 39:16, we see that the leader, or commander, of Russia at the time of that nation's invasion of Palestine is none other than Gog, who will meet the Almighty in Palestine, and who will be overthrown by Him. In the light of these facts, I am confident that the one addressed in verse 3 of Psalm 120 is none other than Gog, the ruler of Russia at the time of the future invasion described in Ezekiel. Ezekiel's prophecy should be studied very, very carefully in this connection. Psalm 120 is the poetic version of the prophecy of Ezekiel 38:1 - 39:16.
What shall be given unto thee,
and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?” (vs. 3)
The answer to this question is found in verse 4:
Sharp arrows of the mighty,
With coals of juniper.” (vs. 4)
As there are two parts to the question — “What shall be given unto thee,” and, “... what shall be done more unto thee” — the answer is given in two parts: First, sharp arrows of the mighty shall be given; secondly, coals of juniper shall be hurled upon him.
Since in the oaths YHVH was always the subject who acts, and since verse four is the answer to the question put in the form of an oath, YHVH is the one who is to be understood as the one acting. In the light of these facts, we are forced to conclude that the one designated “the mighty” is none other than the Almighty, who shoots the sharp arrows at this future deceitful propagandist of Russia. In interpreting Ezekiel 38:1 - 39:16 I wrote a book of 116 pages entitled,  'When Gog's Armies Meet the Almighty.' When Russia, with the satellite nations invades Palestine by sending a great aerial armada against it, she will meet the Almighty as a warrior, who will overthrow all of her forces. Thus YHVH, in this passage, is represented as the Mighty One who shoots His arrows at the enemy, and who deluges them with coals of Juniper, very hot embers. When we read Ezekiel 39:6 we see that at the time of the overthrow of the Russian hosts in Palestine, there will also be the raining of fire and brimstone from heaven upon Russia to destroy her war potential and to liquidate all her armed forces. Thus we see in Psalm 120:4 the complete annihilation of the armed forces of Russia and her accomplices behind the iron curtain.
The psalmist, continuing to speak for the unfortunate Russian Jews, declares:
My soul hath long had her dwelling
With him that hateth peace.” (vs. 6)
The clause, “that hateth peace,” certainly does describe the Russian regime perfectly. They hate peace! The Russian Government hates peace and is doing everything in its power to foment trouble and chaos throughout the world in order that they might bring the entire world under their domination.
The author, continuing, says:
I am for peace:
But when I speak, they are for war.” (vs. 7)
When the Russians invade Palestine in fulfillment of Ezekiel 38:1 - 39:16, then the remnant of the Jews in Russia will have an opportunity to return to the land of their forefathers. They long for peace and for an opportunity to worship the YHVH of their fathers. End quote

Deu 16:13  “Perform the Festival of Booths for seven days after the ingathering from your threshing-floor and from your winepress,
Deu 16:14  and you shall rejoice in your festival, you and your son and your daughter, and your male servant and your female servant, and the Lĕwite, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates.
Deu 16:15  “For seven days you shall observe a festival to יהוה your Elohim in the place which יהוה chooses, because יהוה your Elohim does bless you in all your increase and in all the work of your hands, and you shall be only rejoicing!
Deu 16:16  “Three times a year all your males appear before יהוה your Elohim in the place which He chooses: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and at the Festival of Weeks, and at the Festival of Booths. And none should appear before יהוה empty-handed,
Deu 16:17  but each one with the gift of his hand, according to the blessing of יהוה your Elohim which He has given you.

Sukkot was a time when all believers in the One True Elohim of Yisrael would make their way UP to Yerushayim to joyously celebrate this appointed time.
Sukkot reminded believers of the Great Marriage Supper of the Lamb and the joyful Messianic feast that followed and celebrated our union with Messiah during the final 1000 year period of peace on this earth before Rev 21 comes into being.

Rev 19:7  “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him praise, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife prepared herself.”
Rev 19:8  And to her it was given to be dressed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteousnesses of the set-apart ones.
Rev 19:9  And he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who have been called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true words of Elohim.”

Our Sidra begins according to the Septennial Cycle:

Deu 16:18  “Appoint judges and officers within all your gates, which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, according to your tribes. And they shall judge the people with righteous right-ruling.

In modern Hebrew a magistrate is called a “shofet shalom” and a policeman is called a “shoter.” We can therefore understand the first phrase of this Torah portion as “appoint magistrates and policemen”

“Even in the kingdom of YHVH people will not always do what you expect but what you inspect.”

This Torah portion-“Shoftim” or Judges- points us clearly to a time when YHVH will once again appoint “shoftim and shotrim” – “Appoint judges and officers within all your gates” to guide the lives of His Covenant people in the “olam ha ba” – the age to come – when no one will be permitted to do what is right in their own eyes.
Even in this age – “olam ha ze” there is a growing remnant – His Bride - that have a passion to walk as our Messiah walked and do what is right in the Eyes of YHVH by observing and walking according to His Covenant – The Torah.
Many believers today are preparing for “heaven” but the Scriptures  teaches us to prepare for the coming Messianic kingdom on earth, where the citizens of the Kingdom will be living and following the practical instruction of the Torah day by day for 1000 years. (Is 2:2-4)
Judges and policemen (shotrim) will be appointed and anointed by the Ruach Ha Kodesh to ensure that all the citizens of Yisrael are assisted to abide fully with their covenant obligations towards YHVH and one another. These men will operate

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed
One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim,
King of the Universe, you have selected us from among
all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you,
YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Deu 15:7  “When there is a poor man with you, one of your brothers, within any of the gates in your land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, do not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother,

The sages teach us that when a community guards the Torah, there should be prosperity for all its members. Any breach of Torah would manifest itself in poverty or in sickness. For this reason it was incumbent on each member of the Torah community to constantly examine themselves as to whether or not they are in one accord with each other and with YHVH’s Torah.

We see the implications of this principle illustrated in the Nazarene Talmud (Apostolic writings) –

Mat 18:15  “And if your brother sins against you, go and reprove him, between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
Mat 18:16  “But if he does not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word might be established.’
Mat 18:17  “And if he refuses to hear them, say it to the assembly. And if he refuses even to hear the assembly, let him be to you like a gentile and a tax collector.

Mat 18:18  “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind1 on earth shall be having been bound1 in heaven, and whatever you loosen1 on earth shall be having been loosened1 in heaven. Footnote: 1Binding and loosening is Heḇrew idiom for exercising authority (to prohibit and permit).
Mat 18:19  “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning any matter that they ask, it shall be done for them by My Father in the heavens.
Mat 18:20  “For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there I am in their midst.”
Mat 18:21  Then Kĕpha came to Him and said, “Master, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
Mat 18:22  יהושע said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

This reminds us once again that the apostolic writings were written for a Torah seeking community of believers that realized the serious implications of individual as well as corporate obedience and responsibility.

Poverty sickness and disease are a curse and have no place in the Community of those who are of “The Faith”

Deu 15:8  for you shall certainly open your hand to him and certainly lend him enough for his need, whatever he needs.
Deu 15:9  “Be on guard lest there be a thought of Beliyaʽal in your heart, saying, ‘The seventh year, the year of release, is near,’ and your eye is evil against your poor brother and you give him naught. And he shall cry out to יהוה against you, and it shall be a sin in you.

Some Yisraelites may have been hesitant to give loans in the seventh year because this was a year that all debts were to be cancelled. To have this spirit was compared to having Beliyaal in your heart. Beliyaal means to “seek profit through wickedness”

Deu 15:10  “You shall certainly give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this reason יהוה your Elohim does bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand.
Deu 15:11  “Because the poor one does not cease from the land. Therefore I am commanding you, saying, ‘You shall certainly open your hand to your brother, to your poor and to your needy one, in your land.’
Deu 15:12  “When your brother is sold to you, a Heḇrew man or a Heḇrew woman, and shall serve you six years, then let him go free from you in the seventh year.
Deu 15:13  “And when you send him away free from you, let him not go away empty-handed.
Deu 15:14  “You shall richly supply him from your flock, and from your threshing-floor, and from your winepress. With that which יהוה has blessed you with, give to him.
Deu 15:15  “And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Mitsrayim, and יהוה your Elohim redeemed you. Therefore I am commanding you this word today.
Deu 15:16  “And it shall be, when he says to you, ‘I do not go away from you,’ because he loves you and your house, because it is good for him with you,
Deu 15:17  then you shall take an awl and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever(chadal). Do the same to your female servant.

It appears that the community of faith will always be challenged by those who don’t have a heart to fully obey and walk in the ways of Torah.
The Hebrew word “chadal” is used in this verse and means “will not cease or come to an end.”

It appears that some people are better off been under some kind of supervision over their lives forever – see vs 17 – There seem to be different aspects to this instruction found in Shemot 21 and Vayikra 25. Hebrew slaves were encouraged to return to their family inheritance in the year of Jubilee. Hebrew slaves were not meant to be slaves forever. Woman slaves were to be treated differently- see Shemot 21.

Why the differences?

It is clear that the Torah if it was guarded and obeyed, it would bring freedom and prosperity for all – but maybe Moshe believed that there would always be some people that would always need help to guard and obey the Torah, hence it would be preferred that some remain accountable to a master forever, for this purpose. This is my view. I hope I am wrong.

Deu 15:18  “Let it not be hard in your eyes when you send him away free from you, for he has been worth a double hired servant in serving you six years. And יהוה your Elohim shall bless you in all that you do.
Deu 15:19  “Set apart to יהוה your Elohim all the first-born males that come from your herd and your flock. Do no work with the first-born of your herd, nor shear the first-born of your flock.
Deu 15:20  “You and your household are to eat it before יהוה your Elohim year by year in the place which יהוה chooses.
Deu 15:21  “But when there is any defect in it, lame or blind, or has any evil defect, do not slaughter it to יהוה your Elohim.
Deu 15:22  “Eat it within your gates – the unclean and the clean alike – as the gazelle, and as the deer.
Deu 15:23  “Only, do not eat its blood, pour it on the ground like water.
Deu 16:1  “Guard the month of Aḇiḇ, and perform the Passover to יהוה your Elohim, for in the month of Aḇiḇ יהוה your Elohim brought you out of Mitsrayim by night.
Deu 16:2  “And you shall slaughter the Passover to יהוה your Elohim, from the flock and the herd, in the place where יהוה chooses to put His Name.
Deu 16:3  “Eat no leavened bread with it. For seven days you eat unleavened bread with it, bread of affliction, because you came out of the land of Mitsrayim in haste – so that you remember the day in which you came out of the land of Mitsrayim, all the days of your life.
Deu 16:4  “And no leaven should be seen with you in all your border for seven days, neither should any of the meat which you slaughter in the evening on the first day stay all night until morning.
Deu 16:5  “You are not allowed to slaughter the Passover within any of your gates which יהוה your Elohim gives you,
Deu 16:6  but at the place where יהוה your Elohim chooses to make His Name dwell, there you slaughter the Passover in the evening, at the going down of the sun, at the appointed time you came out of Mitsrayim.
Deu 16:7  “And you shall roast and eat it in the place which יהוה your Elohim chooses, and in the morning you shall turn and go to your tents.
Deu 16:8  “Six days you eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there is a closing festival to יהוה your Elohim – you do no work.
Deu 16:9  “Count seven weeks for yourself. Begin to count seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the grain.
Deu 16:10  “And you shall perform the Festival of Weeks to יהוה your Elohim, according to the voluntary offering from your hand, which you give as יהוה your Elohim blesses you.
Deu 16:11  “And you shall rejoice before יהוה your Elohim, you and your son and your daughter, and your male servant and your female servant, and the Lĕwite who is within your gates, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are in your midst, at the place where יהוה your Elohim chooses to make His Name dwell.
Deu 16:12  “And you shall remember that you were a slave in Mitsrayim, and you shall guard and do these laws.

I believe the Bride of Messiah will never become weary of well

doing and following the Messiah in perfect obedience to ALL of

the Torah forever and ever – Gal 6.

The Bride of Messiah will be an example to the world that as they follow every instruction in YHVH’s Torah forever (while heaven and earth are in existence) they will enter into deeper levels of love and understanding of our redemption and relationship with YHVH.

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Ameyn
