Parashat 10 – (Miketz) Portion 38 Ber/Gen 41:1-37 Yesh 29:1-19 Ps 35- Rev 7:1-17

Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Torah

מקץ- ‘’miketz’’ Strongs 7093 – ‘’at the end (of time)’’ In Hebrew thinking it can also imply the end of or the beginning of something.

Gen 41:1  And it came to be, at the end of two years’ time, that Pharaoh had a dream, and saw him standing by the river,

Perhaps this Torah portion give us a hint – Remez – that we are the generation living “two thousand years after Messiah’s first coming that will usher in his second coming – “it came to be after the end of two years” This is also where this Torah portion gets its name

The Torah has much to say about the last days – any study of the last days excluding the Torah is bound to be misleading.

Pro 28:9  He who turns away his ear from hearing the Torah, Even his prayer is an abomination.[a] Footnote: See also Job_15:29, Isa_59:1-2, Joh_9:31, 1Jn_3:22

What will it take to provoke the Jewish people to jealousy?

Perhaps an end time remnant from the house of Yosef walking in the blessing and protection of YHVH’s Covenant blessing according to Torah.

Gen 41:1  And it came to be, at the end of two years’ time, that Pharaoh had a dream, and saw him standing by (על)the river, (Heb. Standing over the river)

This is significant because the ‘’water spirits’’ that came from The river gave enormous power to the occultic powers that controlled Egypt. These occultic powers with their priesthood were not able to interpret Pharaoh’s dream.

So too in the last days, a remnant set apart priesthood of YHVH will be able to interpret and understand the events of the last days.

Gen 41:2  and saw seven cows coming up out of the river, fine looking and fat, and they fed amongst the reeds,

Gen 41:3  then saw seven other cows coming up after them out of the river, ugly and lean of flesh, and stood by the other cows on the bank of the river.

Gen 41:4  And the ugly and lean of flesh cows ate up the seven fine looking and fat cows. Then Pharaoh awoke.

Gen 41:5  And he slept and dreamed a second time and saw seven heads of grain coming up on one stalk, plump and good,

Gen 41:6  and saw seven lean heads, scorched by the east wind, coming up after them.

Gen 41:7  And the seven lean heads swallowed the seven plump and complete heads. Then Pharaoh awoke and saw it was a dream.

Gen 41:8  And it came to be in the morning that his spirit was moved, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Mitsrayim and all its wise men. And Pharaoh related to them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.

Gen 41:9  Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my crimes this day.

Gen 41:10  “When Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in confinement in the house of the captain of the guard, both me and the chief baker,

Gen 41:11  each one of us dreamed a dream in one night, he and I. Each of us dreamed according to the interpretation of his own dream.

Gen 41:12  “And there was with us a Heḇrew youth, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we related to him, and he interpreted our dreams for us. To each man he interpreted according to his own dream.

Gen 41:13  “And it came to be, as he interpreted for us, so it came to be. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”

Gen 41:14  Then Pharaoh sent and called Yosĕph, and they hurriedly brought him out of the dungeon. And he shaved and changed his garments and came to Pharaoh.

The Jewish Rabbis say that when Joseph shaved and changed his clothes, this is a Hebrew idiom that refers to Joseph hiding his true identity as a Hebrew, and as a son of Jacob.  In this last half of Genesis 41:14, Joseph could no longer be recognized as the son of Jacob, but instead became “gentilizied”.  He became an Egyptian.  He forsook or at least hid his heritage.  In 2,000 years of church history the Greek name “Jesus” was given to the real Messiah Yeshua.  He was “shaved” and his clothes were changed to look like an Egyptian by the pagan influenced Christians who started severing the Herbew root of the Hebrew “Olive tree”.

Parashat 9 (Va Yeshev) Portion 36 Ber/Gen 39:1-23 Yesh 55:11-56:8; 52:13-53:12 Acts 16:16-40

Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Amein.

Gen 39:1  And Yosĕph had been taken down to Mitsrayim. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, a Mitsrite, bought him from the Yishmaʽĕlites who had taken him down there.

1 And Yosef was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, a eunuch(saris) of Pharaoh's, the chief of executioners, an Egyptian man, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither.

Parashat 9 (Va Yeshev) Portion 35 Ber 38:1-30 Hos 12:1-9 + 14:9 Yesh/Is 37:31-37 Matt 1:1-17

Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Amein.

ויהי בעת ההוא – ‘’from that time’’ maybe Judah/Yahudah never fully recovered ‘’from that time’’

Isa 37:31  “And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Yehuḏah shall again take root downward, and be fruitful upward. Isa 37:32  “For out of Yerushalayim comes forth a remnant, and those who escape from Mount Tsiyon – the ardour of יהוה of hosts does this.

Gen 38:1  And at that time it came to be that Yehuḏah (va yered)left his brothers, and turned aside (Heb – ‘’natah’’ to deviate) to a man, an Aḏullamite whose name was Ḥirah.

Rashi comments: “va yered Yehudah” Yehudah went down – his descent was figurative in the sense that his brothers deposed him from his position of leadership. This narrative interrupts the story of Yosef to teach how Yehudah’s brothers lowered him in esteem because of the incident with Yosef, for when they saw their father’s intense grief, they blamed Yehudah for it. “You told us to sell him,” they charged. “Had you advised us to send us to send him back to Father, we would have listened!” As a result of their disenchantment with him, Yehudah moved away from the family and settled in Adullam, where he became the business partner of Chirah.”

Adullam “the verb (adal) means to turn aside in the sense of to hide or seek refuge. Hence BDB translates the name Adullam with Retreat, Refuge’’

The sages also tell us that because of Yehudah’s culpability for Yakov’s suffering, he was repaid by losing his two oldest sons, so he would experience the same grief as his father – Sforno.

“Chirah” refers to a noble family – Strongs 2437. However the Hebrew root of this word – charar - is to “shame or to wax pale” Strongs 2357 – Deut 7:1-3 forbids marriage with Canaanites (Kena’ates).
