Parashat 9 Portion 35 Ber 38:1-40 Yesh/Is 37:31-37 Matt 1:1-17

Rashi comments:  “ va yered yehudah” Yehudah went down – his descent was figurtative in the sense that his brothers deposed him from his position of leadership. This narrative interrupts the story of Yosef to teach how Yehudah’s brothers lowered him in esteem because of the incident with Yosef, for when they saw their father’s intense grief, they blamed Yehudah for it. “You told us to sell him,” they charged. “Had you advised us to send us to send him back to Father, we would have listened!” As a result of their disenchantment with him, Yehudah moved away from the family and settled in Adullam, where he became the business partner of Chirah.”

Adullam means “justice for the people,” the sages tell us that because of Yehudah’s culpability for Yakov’s suffering, he was repaid by losing his two oldest sons, so he would experience the same grief as his father – Sforno.

It is rather ironic that the same words “identify if you please” used by Yehudah to ask his father to identify Yosef’s garment(37:32) are the same words Tamar uses when revealing Yehudah’s infidelity with her – see vs 38:25 – “haker na” –

As the old adage goes “what goes around comes around” or as the second writings succinctly states - Gal 6:7  Do not be led astray: Elohim is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap.

“Chirah” refers to a noble family – Strongs 2437. However the Hebrew root of this word – charar - is to “shame or to wax pale” Strongs 2357
This sounds like Yehudah was so down because of what happened that he simply decided to assimilate.
Assimilations is the struggle of Yehudah and all those grafted into the same family tree today. We are so pressured by the world and by the spirt of this world to conform to the pattern of this world.
Instead of taking a stand we succumb to the pressure. This is the curse of the “galut”
See commentary Stones Chumash page 208 vs 2&6-10.

Rom 12:2  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you prove what is that good and well-pleasing and perfect desire of Elohim.

Gen 38:2  And Yehuḏah saw there a daughter of a certain Kenaʽanite whose name was Shuwa. And he took her and went in to her.
Kenanite – is never referred to as a merchant in the Torah. The Torah describes Kenanites as the descendants of Cham,  only later did the word Canaanite, acquire the additional meaning of trade or merchant (Zephaniah 1:11, Ezekiel 16:29)

This proves that the rabbi’s are wrong when they say that Jewishness comes from the mother and not the father.  Praise YHVH in the case of Yehudah it is correct to assume that Jewishness is determined by the father and not the mother. If the rabbi’s are right, the Jewish nation are descendants of Cham and the Kenanites. This is impossible because Messiah came from the tribe of Yehudah.

Shuah –  can also mean a cry of help because of desperation.

The Hebrew word “galut” applies to those who live outside the land. The Hebrew word “gala” which means to go into exile can also mean to be naked or uncovered – and thus to be ashamed and vulnerable.

Gen 38:3  So she conceived and bore a son, and he called his name Ěr. (Heb – awake)
Gen 38:4  And she conceived again and bore a son, and she called his name Onan. (Heb – strong)
Gen 38:5  And she conceived yet again and bore a son, and called his name Shĕlah.(Heb – petition) And he was at Keziḇ (Heb – false) when she bore him.
Gen 38:6  And Yehuḏah took a wife for Ěr his first-born, and her name was Tamar. (Heb – palm tree)
Gen 38:7  But Ěr, Yehuḏah’s first-born, was evil in the eyes of יהוה, and יהוה took his life.
Gen 8:8  And Yehuḏah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s
wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother.”
Gen 38:9  And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. And it came to be, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he spilled on the ground, lest he should give an offspring to his brother.
Gen 38:10  But what he did displeased יהוה, so He took his life too.  (He did not perform the duty of the Levirate marriage. Deutr 25:5)
Gen 38:11  Then Yehuḏah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law,
“Remain a widow in your father’s house until my son    Shĕlah is grown.” For he said, “Lest he also die as his brothers did.” And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
Gen 38:12  And after a long time the daughter of Shuwa, Yehuḏah’s wife, died. And Yehuḏah was comforted, and went up to his sheep-shearers at Timnah, he and his friend Ḥirah the Aḏullamite.
Gen 38:13  And it was reported to Tamar, saying, “See, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep.”
Gen 38:14  And she took off her widow’s garments, and covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself, and sat at the entrance to Ěnayim which was on the way to Timnah. For she saw that Shĕlah was grown, and she was not given to him as a wife. (He too did not perform the duty of the Leverage marriage.)
Gen 38:15  And Yehuḏah saw her, and reckoned her for a whore, for she had covered her face.
Gen 38:16  And he turned aside to her by the way, and said, “Please let me come in to you,” for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, “What do you give me to come in to me?”
Gen 38:17  And he said, “Let me send you a young goat from the flock.” And she said, “Do you give me a pledge until you send it?”
Gen 38:18  So he said, “What pledge should I give you?” And she said, “Your seal and your cord and your staff that is in your hand.” And he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.
Gen 38:19  And she arose and went away, and removed her veil and put on the garments of her widowhood.
Gen 38:20  And Yehuḏah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend the Aḏullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand, but he did not find her.
Gen 38:21  And he asked the men of that place, saying, “Where is the cult prostitute who was beside the way to Ěnayim?” And they said, “There was no cult prostitute in this place.”
Gen 38:22  And he returned to Yehuḏah and said, “I have not found her. And the men of the place also said there was no cult prostitute in this place.”
Gen 38:23  And Yehuḏah said, “Let her take them for herself, lest we become despised, for I sent this young goat and you have not found her.”
Gen 38:24  And it came to be, about three months after, that Yehuḏah was informed, saying, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has whored, and see, she has conceived by whoring.” And Yehuḏah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!”
Gen 38:25  When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these belong, I am pregnant.” And she said, “Please examine whose these are: the seal and the cord and the staff.”
Gen 38:26  And Yehuḏah examined and said, “She has been more righteous than I, because I did not give her to Shĕlah my son.” And he never knew her again.

Parashat 9 Portion 34 – Vayishev – And he dwelt – Ber 37:1 -36 Yer 38:1-13 Matt 3:13-17

Pirket Avot 5:22
He would also say: Five years is the age for the study of Scripture. Ten, for the study of Mishnah. Thirteen, for the obligation to observe the mitzvot. Fifteen, for the study of Talmud. Eighteen, for marriage. Twenty, to pursue [a livelihood]. Thirty, for strength, Forty, for understanding. Fifty, for counsel. Sixty, for sagacity. Seventy, for elderliness. Eighty, for power. Ninety, to stoop. A hundred-year-old is as one who has died and passed away and has been negated from the world.

Yosef was almost ready to take a bride. Yahshua is also almost ready to take a bride.

Today Yakov’s flock still seek to obey His commandments and study the Torah and the Second writings.

Some commentaries suggest that the title of this week’s parasha “vayeishev”- “and he settled” is also perhaps the reason why Yakov experienced so many trials. The fathers of our faith, they say, were not settlers but pilgrims. Settling down can cause spiritual stagnation and prevent one from reaching your destination.
Perhaps the title of this week’s parashah also contains a  prophetic message that the descendants of Yakov will settle down once again in the land of Yisrael for ever when the Messiah returns.
Gen 37:1  And Yaʽaqoḇ dwelt in the land of his father’s sojournings, in the land of Kenaʽan.
The root of the Hebrew word used in this week’s parasha is “yashav”. This word is often found in the Torah and can be defined as to “sit, settle or reside”
From a “Hebraic” perspective we understand that to “yashav” is a temporary blessing, enjoyed only for short periods of time during our pilgrimage here on earth.

We see this was the pattern of our fathers.

Heb 11:8  By belief, Aḇraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he was about to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
Heb 11:9  By belief, he sojourned in the land of promise as a stranger, dwelling in tents with Yitsḥaq and Yaʽaqoḇ, the heirs with him of the same promise,
Heb 11:10  for he was looking for the city having foundations, whose builder and maker is Elohim.
Heb 11:13  In belief all these died, not having received the promises, but seeing them from a distance, welcomed and embraced them, and confessed that they were aliens and strangers on the earth. Footnote: 1See v. 39.
Heb 11:14  For those who speak this way make it clear that they seek a fatherland.

Today we understand that to be a pilgrim does not mean you have to change your address every few months. However as “pilgrims” here on earth we have discovered that the “scenery” of our lives can change dramatically from time to time. In fact we know that this is the evidence that we are being led by the Ruach of YHVH. When we have set our hearts to pilgrimage we discover that our lives are definitely not “boring” and we learn to accept both the pain and the joy of this journey.

Psa 84:5  Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Your Highways are in their heart.
Psa 84:6  Passing through the valley of weeping, They make it a fountain; The Teacher also covers it with blessings – (Hebrew …the Moreh or former rain covers them with blessings.)
Psa 84:7  They go from strength to strength, Appearing before Elohim in Tsiyon.

Yakov knows what it means to go through the valley of suffering “bacah” - now he finds himself “sitting” - he is in a kind of transition.  Yakov has just suffered the loss of the love of his life – Rachel -  and we know that he is about to suffer another loss – the apparent death of his favourite son – Yosef. This deception of his sons nearly killed Yakov. The journey almost became totally unbearable for him. Some of you reading this know what this means.
The sages tell us that Yaakov Avinu wanted to live in peace and tranquillity. Hashem (‘The Name’ = YHVH) said "Is it not enough for the righteous that they have their reward in the world-to-come - they also want to live in this world in serenity?"

What is it that sustains one on this journey?

Passion!

The passion for truth, for His kingdom, for His Messiah,  for Yerushalayim and the ultimate passion for YHVH Himself. To love Him with all our heart, being and might.
Psalm 73:25  Whom do I have in the heavens? And I have desired no one besides You on earth.

Every time we recite the “shema” we are expressing that the deepest desire of our hearts is to honour YHVH and love Him in the deepest way imaginable. We know that we are not fully capable of this but we believe that this will one day be the ultimate all -consuming reality of our lives.
Gen 37:2  This is the genealogy(Heb – toldot) of Yaʽaqoḇ. Yosĕph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. And the young man was with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Yosĕph brought an evil report of them to his father.

It speaks of the “toldot” or genealogy of Yakov but then it goes on to tell the story of Yosef. Why? Because Yosef’s life is an amazing prophetic fulfillment of how the Messiah would accomplish the gathering of the 12 tribes of Israel to settle or “va yashev” in the land of Israel one day, again, forever. Only Messianic life would be able to shepherd the flock of Yakov. From now on the generations of Yakov are in the hands of Yosef. Yosef is the savior of Yakov’s offspring.
Yahshua is both Moshiach ben Yosef and Moshiach ben Dawid.

“ And Yosĕph brought an evil report of them to his father.”

In this context we believe evil or “ra-a” does not mean “lashon ha ra – a” or gossip, but Yosef was speaking the truth about their actions.

Yahshua said some pretty harsh but true things of the people of his generation.

Meet the real Yahshua that many still hate – see Matt 23 – speaking to the religious leaders of his day.

Mat 23:33  “Serpents, brood of adders! How would you escape the judgment of Gehenna?

Sadly many so called Messianics are denying Yahshua.

1Jn 2:22  Who is the liar, except the one denying that יהושע is the Messiah? This is the anti-messiah, the one denying the Father and the Son.
1Jn 2:23  No one denying the Son has the Father. The one confessing the Son has the Father as well.

Gen 37:3  And Yisra’ĕl loved Yosĕph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a long robe.

The issue of favoritism evokes strong feelings of “unfairness” in us. The fact is that even YHVH seems to show special favour to some and not to others. See Rom 9. This is not easy to understand.

Rom 9:15  For He says to Mosheh, “I shall favour whomever I favour, and I shall have compassion on whomever I have compassion.”
Rom 9:16  So, then, it is not of him who is wishing, nor of him who is running, but of Elohim who shows favour.

Gen 37:4  But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and were not able to speak peaceably to him.

Joh 1:11  He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

Yahshua said in Joh 15:23  “He who hates Me hates My Father as well.

Yahshua received the same kind of treatment from his brothers when he was here.
Joh 15:25  but...that the word might be filled which was written in their Torah, ‘They hated Me without a cause.’

Gen 37:5  And Yosĕph dreamed a dream, and told it to his brothers. So they hated him even more.
Gen 37:6  And he said to them, “Please listen to this dream which I have dreamed:
Gen 37:7  “See, we were binding sheaves in the midst of the field, and see, my sheaf rose up and also stood up. And see, your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”
Gen 37:8  And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Shall you indeed rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
Gen 37:9  And he dreamed still another dream and related it to his brothers, and said, “See, I have dreamed another dream, and see, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
Gen 37:10  And he related it to his father and his brothers. And his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall we, your mother and I and your brothers, indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?”
Gen 37:11  And his brothers envied him, but his father guarded the word.

There remains a veil over the eyes of many Jews and Gentiles as to what the Torah teaches us today.

2Co 3:14  But their minds were hardened, for to this day, when the old (Gk – palaios or ancient. We understand now that the ancient covenant was not done away with but it was renewed) covenant is being read, that same veil remains, not lifted, because in Messiah it is taken away.
2Co 3:15  But to this day, when Mosheh is being read, a veil lies on their heart.
2Co 3:16  And when one turns to the Master, the veil is taken away.
2Co 3:17  Now YHVH is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of YHVH is, there is freedom.

Gen 37:12  And his brothers went to feed their father’s flock in Sheḵem.
Gen 37:13  And Yisra’ĕl said to Yosĕph, “Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Sheḵem? Come, I send you to them.” So he said to him, “Here I am.”
Gen 37:14  And he said to him, “Please go and see if it is well with your brothers and well with the sheep, and bring back word to me.” So he sent him out of the Valley of Ḥeḇron, and he went to Sheḵem.

The Torah is concealing a mystery in vs 14 because Hebron is not in a valley but on a hill. Why would the Torah deliberately make this kind of error?

Maybe the Torah wants us to see that there is also a hidden message concerning the flock in Shechem that was eventually found in Dothan.
Is it possible that Shechem or “shoulder” was the place where we were meant to bear the yoke of the Torah – see Matt 11:28-30. Yahshua was most probably referring to the yoke of the Torah as this was the customary of expressing our duty towards the studying and living of Torah.
“Dothan” S1886 -  the place of two wells or the place of the double law. This could refer to the apostasy that takes hold of YHVH’s called out ones when they leave the One law of the Torah and seek to establish their own or an additional law. This has sadly happened amongst many Jews and Gentiles.

Gen 37:15  And a certain man found him, and see, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying, “What do you seek?”
Gen 37:16  And he said, “I am seeking my brothers. Please inform me where they are feeding their sheep.”
Gen 37:17  And the man said, “They have left here, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go towards Dothan.’ ” So Yosĕph went after his brothers and found them in Dothan.

“Dothan” means a place of “two wells” In Aramaic Dothan can mean “double law” The reference here is obvious, the brother of Yosef were not in “good place” because they were not been established in the Torah of YHVH alone, they were drinking from another law or well as well. This is the sad state of mankind up to this day. We seek life where no life can be found.

Gen 37:18  And they saw him from a distance, and before he came near them, they plotted against him, to kill him.
Gen 37:19  And they said to each other, “See, this master of dreams is coming!
Gen 37:20  “Now, then, come and let us now kill him and throw him into some pit, and shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ Let us then see what comes of his dreams!”
Gen 37:21  But Re’uḇĕn heard and rescued him from their hands, and said, “Let us not take his life.”
Gen 37:22  And Re’uḇĕn said to them, “Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit which is in the wilderness, and do not lay a hand on him” – in order to rescue him out of their hands, and bring him back to his father.

When the great Shepherd of the sheep (Yahshua) came to seek and save the lost sheep of the house of Yisrael, his brothers also plotted to kill him.

Gen 37:23  So it came to be, when Yosĕph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Yosĕph of his robe, the long robe which was on him.
Gen 37:24  And they took him and threw him into a pit. And the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
Gen 37:25  And they sat down to eat a meal. And they lifted their eyes and looked and saw a company of Yishmaʽĕlites, coming from Gilʽaḏ with their camels, bearing spices, and balm, and myrrh, going to take them down to Mitsrayim.
Gen 37:26  And Yehuḏah said to his brothers, “What would we gain if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?
Gen 37:27  “Come and let us sell him to the Yishmaʽĕlites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our flesh.” And his brothers listened.
Gen 37:28  And men, Miḏyanite traders passed by, so they pulled Yosĕph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Yishmaʽĕlites for twenty pieces of silver. And they took Yosĕph to Mitsrayim.

Gen 37:29  And Re’uḇĕn returned to the pit, and see, Yosĕph was not in the pit. And he tore his garments.
Gen 37:30  And he returned to his brothers and said, “The boy is gone! And I, where am I to go?”
Gen 37:31  So they took Yosĕph’s robe, killed a male goat, and dipped the robe in the blood,
Gen 37:32  and sent the long robe and brought it to their father and said, “We have found this. Please look, is it the robe of your son or not?”
Gen 37:33  And he recognised it and said, “It is my son’s robe. An evil beast has devoured him. Yosĕph is torn, torn to pieces.”
Gen 37:34  And Yaʽaqoḇ tore his garments, and put sackcloth on his waist, and mourned for his son many days.
Gen 37:35  And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “Now let me go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” So his father wept for him.
Gen 37:36  And the Miḏanites had sold him in Mitsrayim to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.

Yakov’s sons eventually learned to love their father after many years of bringing heartache and shame to the family. It will be the same again in the last days.

Eze 34:17  ‘And as for you, O My flock, thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am judging between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats.

Joh 14:15  “If you love Me, you shall guard My commands.1 Footnote: 1See Ex. 20:6, vv. 21&23, 1 John 5:2-3, 2 John v. 6.

1Jn 5:2  By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands.
1Jn 5:3  For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands,1 and His commands are not heavy, Footnote: 1See 5:2, 2 John v. 6, John 14:15.

2Jn 1:6  And this is the love, that we walk according to His commands.1 This is the command, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it. Footnote: 1See 1 John 5:3, and John 14:15.

Parashat 8 Portion 33 Ber 35:9-36:43 Yesh 43:1-7 Matt 11:25-30

Haftarah:  YHVH’s promise to Yakov’s flock.

Isa 43:1  But now, thus said יהוה, your Creator, O Yaʽaqoḇ, and He who formed you, O Yisra’ĕl, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name, you are Mine.

Isa 43:3  “For I am יהוה your Elohim, the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, your Saviour; I gave Mitsrayim for your ransom, Kush and Seḇa in your place.

Isa 43:7  all those who are called by My Name, whom I have created, formed, even made for My esteem.”
Isa 43:8  He shall bring out a blind people who have eyes, and deaf ones who have ears.

Our Torah Portion:

Gen 35:9  And Elohim appeared to Yaʽaqoḇ again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.
Gen 35:10  And Elohim said to him, “Your name is Yaʽaqoḇ, your name is no longer called Yaʽaqoḇ, but Yisra’ĕl is your name.” So He called his name Yisra’ĕl.
Gen 35:11  And Elohim said to him, “I am Ěl Shaddai. Bear fruit and increase, a nation and a company of nations shall be from you, and sovereigns come from your body.
Gen 35:12  “And the land which I gave Aḇraham and Yitsḥaq I give to you. And to your seed after you I give this land.”
Gen 35:13  And Elohim went up from him in the place where He had spoken with him.
Gen 35:14  And Yaʽaqoḇ set up a standing column in the place where He had spoken with him, a monument of stone. And he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.
Gen 35:15  And Yaʽaqoḇ called the name of the place where Elohim spoke with him, Bĕyth Ěl.

In his introduction to this parasha/portion Tim Hegg makes the following comments:

YHVH’S covenant promise to Avraham and Yitzchak, is here passed on to Yakov. And as we have come to expect, the renewal and maintenance of the covenant is initiated by YHVH, not man. YHVH speaks to Yakov, then YHVH appears to him (Ber 35:1,9). YHVH is the One seeking man, and not vica versa. Yet clearly Yakov responds. YHVH calls and Yakov obeys. Avraham Heshell put it this way:

“Faith comes out of awe, out of awareness that we are exposed to His presence, out of anxiety to answer the challenge of YHVH, out of an awareness of our being called upon… unless YHVH asks the question, all our enquiries are in vain”

There is an order in the Kingdom – YHVH initiates, man responds. We see again and again in the Torah and even in our own lives a pattern of man seeking to initiate and expecting YHVH to respond – midrash!
Examples – Yakov seeking to assist YHVH in obtaining  the birth right. Sarah seeking to assist YHVH in producing the child of promise and many others. What about our own lives?

YHVH decides when He shall appear and reveal Himself to man.

Joh 6:44  “No one is able to come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. And I shall raise him up in the last day.
Joh 6:45  “It has been written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by יהוה.’ Everyone, then, who has heard from the Father, and learned, comes to Me. (Yesh 54:13; Yerm 16:21; 31:34)

Isa 54:13  and all your children taught by יהוה, and the peace of your children great.

Do our children have great peace?

This Torah portion is meant to lead us to a place where we know without doubt, that without YHVH we can do nothing.

Yahshua understood this well. Why is that we modern day believers struggle to come to terms with this reality?

Joh 5:19  Therefore יהושע responded and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son is able to do none at all by Himself, but only that which He sees the Father doing, because whatever He does, the Son also likewise does.

Joh 5:30  “Of Myself I am unable to do any matter. As I hear, I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own desire, but the desire of the Father who sent Me.

Joh 15:5  “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me you are able to do naught!

As one old Chinese believer responded when asked what impressed him the most about the western church. He answered and said he was amazed at what they have achieved without the help of YHVH, he couldn’t imagine how much they could achieve with His help.

Many may say “but YHVH has helped us” look around and you can see the evidence of His work and favour in our midst”
If this was true why is the world the church and society in such a mess?

Where is the peace; the joy and the righteousness on earth today?

Rom 14:17  For the reign of Elohim is ….. righteousness and peace and joy in the Set-apart Spirit.

Yahshua said I have come that they might possess life, and that they might possess it beyond measure.” Jn 10:10

Here follows a quote from the second president of USA -  John Adams  – 1825 to 1829.

“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious(greedy) than aristocracy or monarchy. It is not true, in fact, and nowhere appears in history. Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty.”
No political, educational, social or economic system has produced the abundant life promised by YHVH. All of mankind’s efforts have only produced wars, destruction and corruption. Yet in spite of this, man continues to attempt to create a better life and society for himself and those around him

So then how does one possess this life without measure?

Only a very small remnant will, and it may only happen when this small remnant comes to a complete end of themselves and to any idea or attempt where they might think they can possess this life without completely and utterly abandoning themselves to YHVH, His Messiah and His Torah.

In the last days a very small remnant of Yakov’s sheep will usher in a Theocracy (rule of YHVH) and a constitution for governance based entirely on the Torah of Moshe rabbeinu – Moshr our rabbi as followed and taught by Yahshua the Messiah – see Matt 5:17-19.

Act 3:19  “Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master,
Act 3:20  and that He sends יהושע Messiah, pre-appointed for you,
Act 3:21  whom heaven needs to receive until the times of restoration of all matters, of which Elohim spoke through the mouth of all His set-apart prophets since of old.
Act 3:22  “For Mosheh truly said to the fathers, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear according to all matters, whatever He says to you.
Act 3:23  ‘And it shall be that every being who does not hear that Prophet1 shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ Footnote: 1Deut. 18:18-20.

Gen 35:16  Then they set out from Bĕyth Ěl. And it came to be, when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, that Raḥĕl began to give birth, and had great difficulty giving birth.
Gen 35:17  And it came to be, as she was having great difficulty giving birth, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear, for it is another son for you.”
Gen 35:18  And it came to be, as her life was going out – for she died – that she called his name Ben-Oni. But his father called him Binyamin.

Note Rachel like Leah gave names to all the sons of Yisrael. Yet in the birth of this last son – Yakov steps in and changes the name. In the Hebrew mind, the name of a child often reflects the destiny of the child. Should not the fathers be taking more initiative in giving their children names?

Gen 35:19  So Raḥĕl died and was buried on the way to Ephrath, that is Bĕyth Leḥem.
Gen 35:20  And Yaʽaqoḇ set a standing column on her grave, which is the monument of Raḥĕl’s grave to this day.
Gen 35:21  And Yisra’ĕl set out and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Ěḏer.
Gen 35:22  And it came to be, when Yisra’ĕl dwelt in that land, that Re’uḇĕn went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Yisra’ĕl heard about it.

Book of Jubilees chapter 33

2 And Reuben saw Bilhah, Rachel's maid, the concubine of his father, bathing in water in a secret place, and he loved her.
3 And he hid himself at night, and he entered the house of Bilhah [at night], and he found her sleeping alone on a bed in her house.
4 And he lay with her, and she awoke and saw, and behold Reuben was lying with her in the bed, and she uncovered the border of her covering and seized him, and cried out, and discovered that it was Reuben.
5 And she was ashamed because of him, and released her hand from him, and he fled.
6 And she lamented because of this thing exceedingly, and did not tell it to any one.
7 And when Yacob returned and sought her, she said to him: 'I am not clean for you, for I have been defiled as regards you; for Reuben has defiled me, and has lain with me in the night, and I was asleep, and did not discover until he uncovered my skirt and slept with me.'
8 And Yacob was exceedingly wroth with Reuben because he had lain with Bilhah, because he had uncovered his father's skirt.
9 And Yacob did not approach her again because Reuben had defiled her. And as for any man who uncovers his father's skirt his deed is wicked exceedingly, for he is abominable before YAHWEH.

Now the sons of Yaʽaqoḇ were twelve:

Gen 35:23  the sons of Lĕ’ah were Re’uḇĕn, Yaʽaqoḇ’s first-born, and Shimʽon, and Lĕwi, and Yehuḏah, and Yissasḵar, and Zeḇulun;

Gen 35:28  And the days of Yitsḥaq were one hundred and eighty years.
Gen 35:29  So Yitsḥaq breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, aged and satisfied of days. And his sons Ěsaw and Yaʽaqoḇ buried him.
Gen 36:1  And this is the genealogy of Ěsaw, who is Eḏom.
Gen 36:2  Ěsaw took his wives from the daughters of Kenaʽan: Aḏah the daughter of Ělon the Ḥittite, and Oholiḇamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Tsiḇʽon the Ḥiwwite;

According to the Stones Chumash commentary page 193 vs 2 there appear to many allusions to incest in Esav descendants.
However the Torah does not omit to mention the incestuous relationship between Reuben and Billah – vs 35:22

The fact that the two genealogy’s of both Yakov and Esav and placed side by side in the Torah can lead one to believe that even though the covenant was renewed through Yakov, both the descendants of Yakov and Esav were both transgressing the Torah.
The sad reality is that amongst those who call themselves believers there is often a doing what is right in their own eyes.
That is why YHVH will one day give His people a new heart to follow Him and please Him.

Jer 31:33  “For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ĕl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people.
