Parashat 36 Portion 106 B’Midbar 9:22 – 10:36 Yesh 27:7-13 Rev 8:1-6

We have a You Tube Channel – ‘’End Time Torah’’ – We recommend this channel to those believers in Yahshua who are in the church and are seeking to return to the Hebraic roots of the faith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl5aqB8o4Do

Parashat 36 Portion 106 B’Midbar 9:22 – 10:36 Yesh 27:7-13 Rev 8:1-6

Bar’chu et YHVH ha-m’vorach, Baruch YHVH ha-m’vorach l’O’lam va-ed! Baruch ata YHVH Eloheinu melech ha-olam asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’na-tan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah.)

Karl Marx infamously described Christianity as the ‘’opiate of the masses’’. Opiates are used to escape pain, but they do not guard us against suffering.

1Pe 4:1  Therefore, since Messiah suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,[]a Footnote: a Rom_6:2-22, 1Pe_2:25

In these days the set apart Spirit is preparing us for the difficult and troubling times that lie ahead. Most of humanity will not survive the time of ‘’Yakov’s distress’’

Jer 30:5  “For this is what יהוה said, ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

Jer 30:6  Ask now, and see if a man is giving birth. Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labour, and all faces turned pale?

Jer 30:7  Oh! For great is that day, there is none like it. And it is the time of Ya‛aqoḇ’s distress, but he shall be saved out of it.

Jer 30:11  For I am with you,’ declares יהוה, ‘to save you. Though I make a complete end of all nations  where I have scattered you, yet I do not make a complete end of you. But I shall reprove you in judgment, and by no means leave you unpunished.’ Footnote: aSee Jer_46:28, Isa_34:2, Isa_45:17, Dan_2:44, Amo_9:8, Hag_2:22

Jer 30:12  “For thus said יהוה, ‘Your breach is incurable, your wound is grievous.

Jer 30:13  No one pleads your cause, to bind up. There are no healing medicines for you.

1Co 10:1  For I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

1Co 10:2  and all were immersed into Mosheh in the cloud and in the sea,

1Co 10:3  and all ate the same spiritual food,

1Co 10:4  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.

1Co 10:5  However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the wilderness.

1Co 10:6  And these became examples for us, so that we should not lust after evil, as those indeed lusted.

1Co 10:7  And do not become idolaters as some of them, as it has been written, “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play.” Exo_32:6

1Co 10:8  Neither should we commit whoring, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell,

1Co 10:9  neither let us try Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were destroyed by serpents,

1Co 10:10  neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

1Co 10:11  And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,

1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.

1Co 10:13  No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, and Elohim is trustworthy, who shall not allow you to be tried beyond what you are able, but with the trial shall also make the way of escape, enabling you to bear it.

1Co 10:14  Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

Num 9:22  Whether two days, or a month, or a year that the cloud lingered above the Dwelling Place to dwell upon it, the children of Yisra’ĕl camped, and did not depart. But when it was taken up, they departed.

Num 9:23  At the command of יהוה they camped, and at the command (Heb ‘’al pe’’) of יהוה they departed. They guarded the Charge of יהוה, at the command of יהוה by the hand of Mosheh.

Note the use of the future tense verbs – “encamped and journeyed.” These verbs may also refer to a future time when Yisrael will begin its epic journey back to Land. Note also that the word “commandment is not used but “mouth of YHVH” is used. (Mt 4:4)

Our future safety and survival depends on hearing and obeying the words that come out of the mouth of YHVH.

In the last of the last days the 144 000 witnesses of Rev 7 will guide and protect us in the wilderness of the nations.

Eze 20:35  “And I shall bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and shall enter into judgment with you face to face there.

Eze 20:36  “As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Mitsrayim, so I shall enter into judgment with you,” declares the Master יהוה

Eze 20:37  “And I shall make you pass under the rod, and shall bring you into the bond of the covenant,

Eze 20:38  and purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me. From the land where they sojourn I bring them out, but they shall not come into the land of Yisra’ěl. And you shall know that I am יהוה

Num 10:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,

Num 10:2  “Make two silver trumpets (Heb - chătsôtserâh) for yourself, make them of beaten work. And you shall use them for calling the congregation and for breaking camp.

Num 10:3  “And when they blow (S8628 – Takah – long blast) both of them, all the congregation shall meet before you at the door of the Tent of Meeting. (Hebrew defines different kinds of blasts from the trumpets)

Num 10:4  “And if they blow one, (takah - blast– long blow)then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Yisra’ĕl, shall gather to you.

Num 10:5  “And when you blow a shout,(teruah  – short blow - alarm) the camps that lie on the east side shall depart.

Num 10:6  “And when you blow (teruah) a shout the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall depart – they blow a shout for them to depart.

Num 10:7  “And when the assembly is to be assembled, you blow (long blasts), but do not shout (short blasts).

Num 10:8  “And the sons of Aharon, the priests, blow (takah)with the trumpets. And it shall be to you for a law (chukat) forever throughout your generations.

One of the main differences between the ‘Shofar’ and the ‘trumpet’ is that while everyone could blow in the ‘Shofar,’ in the ‘trumpet’ ONLY the priests could do so.

Num 10:9  “And when you go into battle in your land against the enemy that distresses you, then you shall shout with the trumpets, and you shall be remembered before יהוה your Elohim, and you shall be saved from your enemies.

Num 10:10  “And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow(takah) the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over your peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for you before your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim.”

Num 10:11  And it came to be on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from above the Dwelling Place of the Witness. (just after the seven days of chag ha matzot of  pesach sheni – in the last days the stragglers and backsliders will be given a second chance to join the 12 tribes returning to the land)

Perhaps there was a delay to their journey because of “Pesach sheni” or second Passover – see previous portion.

Num 10:12  And the children of Yisra’ĕl departed, setting out from the Wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud dwelt on it in the Wilderness of Paran.

Num 10:13  Thus they departed the first time, according to the command of יהוה by the hand of Mosheh.

This was the first time after camping at Mount Sinai that the nation moved. They had left Mitzraim/Egypt and now they were ready to move on.

Num 10:14  And the banner of the camp of the children of Yehuḏah departed first according to their divisions. And over their army was Naḥshon, son of Amminaḏaḇ.

Num 10:15  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Yissasḵar was Nethanĕ’l, son of Tsuʽar.

Num 10:16  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Zeḇulun was Eliyaḇ, son of Ḥĕlon.

Num 10:17  And the Dwelling Place was taken down. And the sons of Gĕreshon and the sons of Merari departed, bearing the Dwelling Place.

Num 10:18  And the banner of the camp of Re’uḇĕn departed according to their divisions. And over their army was Elitsur, son of Sheḏĕy’ur.

Num 10:19  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Shimʽon was Shelumi’ĕl, son of Tsurishaddai.

Num 10:20  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Gaḏ was Elyasaph, the son of Deu’ĕl.

Num 10:21  And the Qehathites departed, bearing the set-apart objects, while the Dwelling Place was set up before they came.

Num 10:22  And the banner of the camp of the children of Ephrayim departed according to their divisions. And over their army was Elishama, son of Ammihuḏ.

Num 10:23  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Menashsheh was Gamli’ĕl, son of Peḏahtsur.

Num 10:24  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Binyamin was Aḇiḏan, son of Giḏʽoni.

Num 10:25  Then the banner of the camp of the children of Dan, which formed the rear guard of all the camps, departed according to their divisions. And over their army was Aḥiʽezer, son of Ammishaddai.

Num 10:26  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Ashĕr was Paḡʽi’ĕl, the son of Oḵran.

Num 10:27  And over the army of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Aḥira, the son of Ěnan.

Num 10:28  Such was the order of setting out of the children of Yisra’ĕl, according to their divisions, when they departed.

Num 10:29  And Mosheh said to Ḥoḇaḇ, the son of Reʽuw’ĕl (friend of Elohim)the Miḏyanite, Mosheh’s father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which יהוה said, ‘I give it to you.’ Come with us, and we shall do good to you, for יהוה has spoken good concerning Yisra’ĕl.”

Num 10:30  And he replied to him, “I am not going, but I am going to my own land and to my relatives.”

Num 10:31  Then he said, “Please do not leave us, because you know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you shall be our eyes.

Num 10:32  “And it shall be, when you go with us, then it shall be that whatever good יהוה does to us, the same we shall do to you.”

According to the sages Yitro did accompany Moshe and received a 250 000 sq cubits plot of land in Yericho.

“and you shall be our eyes” is written in the future tense. Rashi translates this as “if anything should be hidden from our eyes, you will enlighten us”

This is a rather profound prophetic statement and is seen by some as a future prophecy of the significance of “gerim” or the grafted in branches of Yisrael playing an extremely significant role in bringing light to the Torah of YHVH as it relates to end time issues and the returning of all exiles to the land of Yisrael.

Num 10:33  So they set out from the mountain of יהוה on a journey of three days (Messianic number). And the ark of the covenant of יהוה went before them for the three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.

Rashi makes a very interesting comment on this ark. He says on page 787 in the Stones Chumash – “The commentators raise the difficulty that the ark traveled after the formations of Judah and Reuben (vs 17) not at the forefront of the camp, this ark was not the ark that contained the Tablets but the second ark which contained the broken pieces of the first set of tablets which Moses had shattered.  This is a picture of Messiah’s broken body resurrected after three days who will lead us in the way to the Kingdom of YHVH.

Num 10:34  And the cloud of יהוה was above them by day when they went out from the camp.

Num 10:35  And it came to be, whenever the ark set out, that Mosheh said, “Rise up, O יהוה! And let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You.”

Col 2:15  Having stripped the principalities and the authorities, He made a public display of them, having prevailed over them in it.

Num 10:36  And when it rested, he said, “Return, O יהוה, to the countless thousands of Yisra’ĕl.”

1Th 4:16  Because the Master Himself shall come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet (Heb -teruah)of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first.

1Th 4:17  Then we, the living who are left over, shall be caught away together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air – and so we shall always be with the Master.

1Th 4:18  So, then, encourage one another with these words.

Vs 35 speaks of Yahshua’s first coming and vs 36 speaks of his second coming.

These two verses (35 and 36) happen to fall between two inverted ‘nuns’ -  (a “nun ‘’] is one of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet and they appear here in these verses back to front – ‘’[‘’) Whenever an oddity appears in the Torah we need to pay special attention to some hidden deeper message in the text.

“Nun” (5125) has a meaning to “resprout” and contains the idea of “life in perpetuation” or posterity. The verb ‘’nun’’ means ‘’to greatly increase’’ this verb is connected with a similar verb ‘’daga’’ which also means ‘’to increase or multiply’’ the noun ‘’dag’’ in Hebrew means ‘’fish’’ Fish are known to multiply in great numbers.

Why the inverted ‘nuns”? Maybe as long as Messiah is not on earth teaching the nations the Torah, the increase and blessings of life will be abrupt and back to front and not “perpetuating” as it was meant to be.

In the synagogues vs 35 is read when the Torah scroll is taken out of a closet called the “ark of the covenant/Aharon Kodesh” and verse 36 is read when the scroll is returned. Even in our days I believe this action sends a message into the spiritual realm. It is stating that the Messiah has come and scattered and defeated his enemies and he will return with millions of his followers and completely remove all our enemies

Isa 9:6  For a Child is born unto us, a Son is given unto us, and the rule is on His shoulder. And His Name is called Wonder, Counsellor, Strong Ěl, Father of Continuity, Prince of Peace.

Isa 9:7  Of the increase of His rule and peace there is no end, upon the throne of Dawiḏ and over His reign,a to establish it and sustain it with right-ruling and with righteousness from now on, even forever. The ardour of יהוה of hosts does this. Footnote: aSee Isa_16:5, Psa_2:1-12, Psa_45:6, Mic_5:2, Luk_1:32-33.

Isa 27:12  And in that day it shall be that יהוה threshes, from the channel of the River to the wadi of Mitsrayim. And you shall be gathered one by one1, O children of Yisra’ĕl. Footnote: 1Jer. 3:14-15.

Isa 27:13  And in that day it shall be that a great horn is blown,(Heb ‘’shofar gadol’’) and those who were perishing in the land of Ashshur and the outcasts in the land of Mitsrayim shall come, and shall worship יהוה on the set-apart mountain, in Yerushalayim – see also 1 Thess 4:16.

Only a restored Levitical priesthood (accompanied by the 144 000 end time witnesses) will discern the sound of the trumpets in the book of Revelation and warn those called to guard the commandments and who have the testimony of Yahshua.

Rev 8:1  And when He opened the seventh seal, there came to be silence in the heaven for about half an hour.

Rev 8:2  And I saw the seven messengers who stand before Elohim, and to them were given seven trumpets.

Rev 8:3  And another messenger came and stood at the slaughter-place, holding a golden censer, and much incense was given to him, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the set-apart ones upon the golden slaughter-place which was before the throne.

Rev 8:4  And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the set-apart ones, went up before Elohim from the hand of the messenger.

Rev 8:5  And the messenger took the censer, and filled it with fire from the slaughter-place, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, and thunders, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

The Seven Trumpets

Rev 8:6  And the seven messengers who held the seven trumpets (Heb – shofar)prepared themselves to sound (Heb ‘’takah’’)

It is difficult for many to see how this Torah portion can have any meaningful significance for messianic believers.

If we observe the pattern and context of the book of revelation – we see similarities to this portion. In Revelation chapter seven it also mentions the 12 tribes – 144000. In chapter eight it speaks of the trumpets.

It may be difficult for us to imagine ourselves in a similar end time scenario, but listen to the words of Yahshua:

Mat 10:16  “See, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise a as serpents and innocent as doves. Footnote: aOr cautious, crafty, shrewd.

Mat 10:17  “But beware of men, for they shall deliver you up to sanhedrins and flog you in their congregations.

Mat 10:18  “And you shall be brought before governors and sovereigns for My sake, as a witness to them and to the nations.

Mat 10:19  “But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it shall be given to you in that hour what you shall speak,

Mat 10:20  for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.

Mat 10:21  “And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child. And children shall rise up against parents Mic_7:6 and shall put them to death.

Mat 10:22  “And you shall be hated by all for My Name’s sake. But he who shall have endured to the end shall be saved.[b] Footnote: bSee Mat_24:13

Mat 10:23  “And when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For truly, I say to you, you shall by no means have gone through the cities of Yisra’ěl before the Son of Aḏam comes. (42 cities in Israel)

Mat 10:24  “A taught one is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.

Mat 10:25  “It is enough for the taught one to become like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Be‛elzebul, how much more those of his household!

We might not like the idea of moving from one location to another in the last days in fear of our lives. This Torah portion and Yahshua’s words suggest that this will happen.

The comfort is that we will have the guidance and protection of the 144000 ‘’sealed Israelites’’ as well as the two witnesses.

We see a similar pattern in ‘’parashat matot’’ Numbers 31 – 12000 Israelites defeat Midianites and secure a massive booty that was divided amongst the Israelites.

Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Ameyn
