Yom Teruah/Day of the great awakening blast
Compiled by Ina Crowther
Yom Teruah/Day of the great
awakening blast
Before the Seventh Hebrew Scriptural
month, is the Sixth Hebrew Scriptural Month.
The Sixth month is also called the month of Elul since
Babylonian exile; a time of preparation.
"And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like
a trumpet said, 'Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after
this.'" (Rev 4:1)
We are right now nearing the end of the Sixth month on
the Scriptural (biblical) calendar, also called the month of Elul since the
Babylonian exile. It is the month preceding the final fall Feasts in the Seventh
month of YHVH’s calendar. Every morning during the month of Elul, the Sixth
month, the shofar is sounded in the synagogues around the world. The purpose is
to ''wake people up'' for what is ahead.
THEN on the first
day of the Seventh Hebrew (Biblical) month, the last shofar, the last trumpet is
sounded. It is Yom Teruah.
1Co 15:50 And this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood is unable
to inherit the reign of Elohim, neither does corruption inherit incorruption.
1Co 15:51 See, I speak a secret to you: We shall not all sleep, but we shall
all be changed, 1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. 1Co 15:53 For this corruptible has to put on
incorruption, and this mortal to put on immortality. 1Co 15:54 And when this
corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality,
then shall come to be the word that has been written, “Death is swallowed up in
overcoming.”
1Co 15:55 “O
Death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your overcoming?” 1Co 15:56 And
the sting of death is the sin, and the power of the sin is the Torah. 1Co 15:57
But thanks to Elohim who gives us the overcoming through our Master יהושע Messiah. 1Co
15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling
in the work of the Master, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the
Master.
One of the extra Scriptural names of Yom Teruah is the “Wedding of the Messiah”. The month of
Elul is symbolically a time of preparation for the wedding supper of the Lamb (which
will take place during Sukkot). This is a time to draw near to Him as never
before.
It was most likely during the month of Elul that the
ministry of Yochanan (John) the Baptist reached its peak. Possibly Yahshua was
baptized on Elul 1 and he ended his 40 day fast on Yom HaKippurim. This is also
the time that according to tradition, Moshe fasted 40 days the second time. It
was on Yom HaKippurim (also known as Yom Kippur) that the Jubilee
Year was announced every fifty years as stated in Vayiqra/Lev
25:8-10,
"Count off seven sabbaths of years — seven times
seven years — so that the seven sabbaths of years amount to a period of
forty-nine years. Then have the trumpet sounded everywhere on the tenth day of
the seventh month; on the Day of Atonement (Yom
Kippur) sound the trumpet throughout your land. Consecrate the
fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each one of you is
to return to his family property and each to his own clan."
We read in Luke 4 what happened at the end of Yahshua's
forty day fast (the fast possibly ended at Yom Kippur):
"When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed
from him until another time. Yahshua returned in the power of the Spirit into
Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area. He taught
in their synagogues, being esteemed by all. He came to Nazareth, where he had
been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the
Sabbath day, and stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed
to him. He opened the scroll, and found the place where it was written, 'The
Spirit of YHVH is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to
the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the
captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
and to proclaim the acceptable year of YHVH.' He closed the scroll, gave
it back to the shammash, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were
fastened on him. He began to tell them, 'Today,
this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.'" (Lk 4:13-21)
“The acceptable year of YHVH” speaks of a Jubilee year.
A Season of Repentance and Intimacy
Elul (the month that is drawing to an end now) is the
month of preparation to meet the King and the Bridegroom. One of the
interpretations of the Hebrew name Elul is that it stands for "Ani l'dodi,
v'dodi li" "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is
mine." (SS 6:3 NKJV) It is a time to seek intimacy with the Bridegroom
to be sheltered in his love. Tehillim/Psalm 27 is read each morning.
This is specifically relevant in view of the fact that
prophetically it is during the “last week” (last seven years of great
tribulation) of Elul, before Yom Teruah, that the anti-messiah will be
revealed. It says in Matthew 24:29-31, “And immediately after the distress[1]
of those days the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its
light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens
shall be shaken. Footnote:1Or pressure.“And then the sign of the Son of Aḏam shall appear in the
heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Aḏam coming on the clouds
of the heaven with power and much esteem. “And He shall send His messengers
with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones
from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other”.
It is in preparation for "the distress of those
days" that Tehilllim/Psalm 27 is proclaimed each morning during
the month of Elul. It is most appropriate.
Tehillim/Psa 27:1 יהוה is my light
and my deliverance; Whom should I fear? יהוה is the refuge
of my life; Whom should I dread?
Psa 27:2 When evil-doers come
against me To eat up my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, They shall
stumble and fall.
Psa 27:3 Though an army encamps
against me, My heart does not fear; Though battle comes up against me, Even
then I would be trusting.
Psa 27:4 One matter I asked of יהוה – this I seek: To dwell in the House of יהוה All the days of my life, To see the pleasantness of יהוה, And to inquire in His Hĕḵal.
Psa 27:5 For in the day of evil
He hides me in His booth; In the covering of His Tent He hides me; On a rock He
raises me up.
Psa 27:6 And now my head is
lifted up above my enemies all around me; And I offer in His Tent with shouts
of joy; I sing, yea, I sing praises to יהוה.
Psa 27:7 Hear, O יהוה, when I cry with my voice! And show me favour, and answer me.
Psa 27:8 To my heart You have
said, “Seek My face.” Your face, יהוה, I seek.
Psa 27:9 Do not hide Your face
from me; Do not turn Your servant away in displeasure; You have been my help;
Do not leave me nor forsake me, O Elohim of my deliverance.
Psa 27:10 When my father and my
mother have forsaken me, Then יהוה does take me
in.
Psa 27:11 Teach me Your way, O יהוה, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Psa 27:12 Do not give me over To
the desire of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And
they breathe out cruelty to me.
Psa 27:13 What if I had not
believed To see the goodness of יהוה In the land of
the living!
Psa 27:14 Wait on יהוה, be strong, And let Him strengthen your heart! Wait, I say, on יהוה!
"Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch,
strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith.
'We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of Elohim,' they
said." (Ac 14:21-22) Let us not be afraid, but let us also be prepared
for what is coming. In His presence is fullness of joy. Remember "in
the day of trouble He will keep me safe in his dwelling; He will hide me in the
shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." (Ps 27:5)
The Sound of the Shofar
The blowing of the shofar is a wakeup call to repent and
draw near to our Elohim. It is a reminder of the substitute offering, the ram
caught in a thicket that Abraham saw, which saved the life of Yitschaq/Isaac
by taking his place. It is the sound of salvation
pointing to the Son – the Messiah.
There has been some debate among
rabbinical authorities as to the exact sound of the shofar blasts.
The Talmud
describes three possibilities:
“One long blast commonly referred to as Tekiah.
Three medium wailing sounds- what we
commonly refer to as shevarim.
Nine very short, staccato blasts -
what we commonly refer to as teruah.
“To satisfy all of the
above opinions, the Rabbis established that the three sets of tekios be blown in three different ways, alternating
the teruah sound in each set.
Thus
we blow tekiah shevarim-teruah tekiah (TaSHRaT)
three times;
tekiah shevarim tekiah
(TaSHaT) three times;
and tekiah teruah
tekiah (TaRaT) three times. All together that adds up to thirty different blasts: eighteen tekios, three
shevarim-teruahs, three shevarim and three teruahs.
This is the minimum number
of blasts that every adult male is required to hear on [Yom Teruah] according to Jewish law. These are called tekios d’myushav, since the
congregation is permitted to sit while they are being blown. In practice,
however, it is almost universally accepted to stand during these tekios”
(ibid.). According to some rabbinic authorities, the teruah can consist simply of nine quick blasts in short succession
(http://www.aish.com/hhRosh/hhRoshDefault/Symbolism_of_the_Shofar.asp).
So, although Torah doesn’t give the exact blowing sounds
of the shofar or the sliver trumpet, there are four different sounds which are
in place throughout all the ages.
- Tekiah -- one
long, straight blast
- Shevarim --
three medium, wailing sounds
- Teruah -- 9
quick blasts in short succession
- Tekiah gadol--"the great Tekiah," a single unbroken blast, held as long as possible.
We as grafted-in x gentiles who are now part of the
commonwealth of Yisrael do not HAVE to obey the Jewish halacha (the walking out
of the commandments) concerning these exact
blasts on the day of Yom Teruah
(the great awakening blast / also speak of great noise), but because Yom Teruah
is about the awakening sound of which the Silver Trumpets and Shofars are playing
a major part, it is a tradition that many
Messianic believers like to adapt. We also learnt the importance of the
Silver trumpets and the Shofars in connection with the end time through
the prophets: Yeshayahu/Isa 27:13 And in that day it shall be that a great
horn is blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Ashshur and the
outcasts in the land of Mitsrayim shall come, and shall worship יהוה on the set-apart mountain, in Yerushalayim. Yirmeyahu/Jer 6:17 “And I raised up watchmen over you, and said,
‘Listen to the sound of the ram’s horn!’ But they said, ‘We do not
listen.’
Joe 2:1 Blow
a ram’s horn in Tsiyon, and sound an alarm in My set-apart mountain! Let
all the inhabitants of the earth tremble, for the day of יהוה is coming, for it is near”. Zep 1:16 a day of ram’s horn and alarm
– against the walled cities and against the corner towers.
Yahshua said in Mat 24:31 “And He shall send His
messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather
together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to
the other. Luke 21:25-28, Then in 1Co 14:8 For indeed, if the trumpet makes an indistinct sound, who shall
prepare himself for battle? 1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trumpet. For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead
shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1. Tekiah--the long, straight shofar blast--is the
sound of the King's coronation, to proclaim that YHVH is King. It is a pure, long and
unbroken sound that calls man to search his heart, forsake his wrong ways, and
seek forgiveness through repentance. “[Yom Teruah] is the day of appreciating
who [YHVH] is. We then internalize that understanding so that it becomes a
living, practical part of our everyday reality. [YHVH] is all-powerful. [YHVH]
is the Creator. [YHVH] is the Sustainer. [YHVH] is the Supervisor. In short,
[YHVH] is King of the Universe. The object of [Yom Teruah] is to crown
[YHVH] as our King. Tekiah—the long, straight shofar blast—is the sound
of the King’s coronation. In the Garden of Eden, Adam’s first act was to
proclaim [YHVH] as King. And now, the shofar proclaims to ourselves and to the
world: [YHVH] is our King. We set our values straight and return to the reality
of [YHVH] as the One Who runs the world … guiding history, moving mountains,
and caring for each and every human being individually and personally”
2. Shevarim--three medium, wailing blasts--is the
sobbing cry of a heart--yearning to connect, crying out to Elohim from the
depths of the soul.
The Hebrew word shevar (rca;
[Strong’s H7665] means to break [in pieces]). The shevarim
shofar call is a broken, trembling sound. It typifies the sorrow that comes
to man when he realizes his misconduct and desires to change his ways. This
shofar blast consists of three medium wailing sounds varying from low to a high
note not unlike some of our modern sirens. It symbolizes the sobbing cry/
heart of the broken and penitent person yearning to connect, to grow, to
achieve. Every person has the ability to change and be great. This can be
accomplished much faster than you ever dreamed of. The key is to pray from the
bottom of your heart and ask YHVH in the name of Yahshua for the ability to
become great. Don’t let yourself be constrained by the past. You know you have
enormous potential. At the moment the shofar is blown, we cry out to YHVH from
the depths of our soul. This is the moment—when our souls stand before the
Almighty without any barriers—that we can truly let go.
Nine quick blasts in short
succession--resembles an alarm clock, arousing us from our spiritual slumber. Teruah
(Strong’s H8643): This word is found in Bemidbar/Numbers
10:5 and means alarm, signal, sound of tempest, shout or blast of war,
battle cry, and alarm of joy. This shofar call was used to call Yisrael/Israel
to arms against an enemy attacker. In Vayiqra/Leviticus 25:9, we
see that the shofar would be blown to signal the arrival of the jubilee year. It
is accepted that this shofar would make the teruah sound. This signal
was not to be used when the congregation was gathered together to worship YHVH
(Bemidbar/Num. 10:7).
It is also possible that the shofar sound for the Jubilee was a
long loud shofar, a Tekiah Gadol.
4. The Tekia Gedolah -- "the great
Tekiah," a single unbroken blast, held as long as possible. This last shofar blast
blown on Yom Teruah is very likely portraying symbolically that of which Shaul/Paul
refers to as the “last trumpet (shofar)” in 1 Corinthians 15:52 signalling
the resurrection of the righteous dead to meet Yahshua in the air at his second
coming (see also 1 Thes. 4:16). If this understanding is correct, then this
same shofar blast would correspond to the “great sound of the shofar” in
Matthew 24:31 when Yahshua will send his angels to “gather the elect from the
four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” This would also correspond to
the seventh and final trumpet of the Seven Trumpets (shofars) of Revelation
8–11, the last of which announces the return of Yahshua and the
resurrection of the righteous dead to meet Yahshua in the air (Rev. 11:15–18). (There is also the Shofar/trumpet sound of
the Jubilee year that was sounded on a Yom HaKippurim. So in the year that
Yahshua comes back, there might also be a great sound of the Trumpet/Shofar on
that Yom HaKippurim after His coming on the clouds.)
Here you can listen to a combination of all four sounds http://www.biblicalgallery.com/images_templ/combination.au
Yahshua said, "There will be signs in the sun,
moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the
roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of
what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time
they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great esteem.
When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because
your redemption is drawing near." (Lk 21:25-28)
Now is the time to be watching and waiting, seeking the
face of the Eternal. Now is the time to repent of any known sin and seek
intimacy with our Bridegroom in order to know him. Now is the time to intercede
for Yerushalayim, Yisrael and the nations! Now is the time to call out. It is
time to hear the sound of the shofar (the ram’s horn) and the sound of the
trumpet (the silver trumpets) calling us back to Elohim, the Mighty One of
Israel.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the
bride say, “Come!” And he who hears, let him say, “Come!” And he who thirsts,
come! And he who desires it, take the water of life without paying!
Rev 22:20 He that bears witness
of these matters says, “Yes, I am coming speedily.” Amĕn. Yes, come, Master יהושע!
Rev 22:21 The favour of our
Master יהושע Messiah be with the set-apart ones. Amĕn.
Joe 3:16 And יהוה shall roar
from Tsiyon, and give forth His voice from Yerushalayim. And the heavens and
earth shall shake, but יהוה shall be a
refuge for His people, and a stronghold for the children of Yisra’ĕl. Joe 3:17 “Then
you shall know that I am יהוה your Elohim,
dwelling in Tsiyon, My set-apart mountain1. And Yerushalayim shall
be set-apart, and foreigners shall not pass through her again. Footnote: 1See
v. 21 and Isa. 24:23.
TWELVE REASONS FOR the SHOFARS
and silver trumpets to be BLOWN
•
1. YHVH’s Kingship (Also for the coronation of a
king). When we
hear the shofar we are to remember YHVH’s
Kingship. In ancient Israel a new king's reign was announced with the
shofar.
• 2. To be YHVH's worshipers. "Praise Him with the
shofar." Ps 150. When we hear
the shofar we are to remember to be YHVH's worshipers. YHVH our Elohim seeks
those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. The shofar heads the list of
instruments used to worship YHVH, as it is written: "Praise Him with the
shofar.
•
3. Need to repent - When we hear the shofar we are to remember our need to repent. "Blow a shofar in Tzion.. consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly.
Return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping and mourning, and
rend your heart and not your garments." (Yoel 2:1,12-15)
• 4. When we hear the shofar we are to remember the faithfulness of the Patriarchs. The ram's horn reminds
us of the "Akedah," the
binding and Abraham's intended offering of Yitschaq. Because of this act of
faith, Elohim promised to bless the Hebrew people and give us victory over all
of our enemies. The shofar is a reminder of our covenant with YHVH because of Abraham, Yitschaq and Ya’akov, and
that the people of Yisrael are loved
by YHVH, our Elohim for the sake of the Patriarchs.
• 5. When we hear the shofar we are to
remember the binding of Messiah Yahshua,
the fulfillment of the “Akedah”. Abraham
prophesied that Elohim would provide for Himself the Lamb for the burnt
offering. Yahshua was offered up as the Lamb of Elohim who takes away the sin
of the world on that same spot two thousand years later.
•
6. When we hear the shofar we are to remember the heavenly shofar that accompanied the
revelation of the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. The shofar reminds us
that all Scripture is divinely inspired by YHVH and we are to pay attention to
every word that comes from the mouth of YHVH.
•
7. WARNING - When we hear the shofar we are to
remember the words of the prophets, as it is written: "I set watchmen over
you saying, 'listen to the sound of the shofar.'" (Yirmeyahu/Jer 6:17) . Prophets are like a
shofar which warn of danger. Israel was judged for ignoring the prophets. We
must pay attention to the prophets of Israel, especially Messiah Yahshua,
Israel's greatest prophet.
•
8. JUDGEMENT - When we hear the shofar we are
to remember that we are in state of war. "Near is the great day of
YHVH, near and coming very quickly... a day of shofar and battle cry."(Zep 1:14
- 16)
We are in
the middle of a raging battle for the souls of human beings. Satan and his
fallen angels are fighting for people to share their destiny. Elohim and
Messiah are fighting for people to share Yahshua's destiny.
•
9. REMEMBER THE DESTRUCTION OF THE TEMPLE AND THE REBUILDING. When we hear the shofar we are to remember the eventual end of all
warfare. The shofar was blown at the end of battle. The shofar is a reminder that final victory is ahead. When Messiah returns, He will end all wars, battles,
and injustice, and usher in a thousand years of shalom.
•
10. When we hear the shofar we are to remember the RESURRECTION
that will take place at Messiah's return.
ICor 15:51-52 “See,
I speak a secret to you: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet;
for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we
shall be changed."
1Th 4:16 Because the Master Himself shall come down from
heaven with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet
of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first.
1Th 4:17 Then we, the living who are left over, shall be
caught away together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air –
and so we shall always be with the Master. "
•
11. INGATHERING - When we
hear the shofar we are to be reminded of
the Jewish people (the House of Yahuda/Judah) and all Yisrael’s restoration to the Land of Yisrael.
Messiah Yahshua will gather all of Yisrael's exiles. "You will be
gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel. It will come about also in that day
that a great shofar will be blown."
• 12. Finally, when we sound the shofar we
are asking Elohim to remember us. The sounding of the shofar is
like a prayer that ascends to Elohim's throne saying,
"O YHVH, our Elohim and Elohim of our fathers,
may the sound of our shofar pierce our hearts and ascend before Your throne.
Remember Your covenants, forgive us, save us, and deliver us in the Name of
Yahshua, and may we be ready for the speedy return of our Bridegroom, the
Redeemer and Sovereign, Yahshua the Messiah!"
BLESSING FOR HEARING THE SHOFAR
Baruch
Atah YHVH Eloheinu Melech ha-olam,
ah-sher kid-shah-nu
b'mitz-voh-tav v'tzi-vah-nu lish-moh-ah kol shofar.
Blessed are You O YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has set us
apart
by Your commandments and commanded us to hear the sounding of the
shofar.
Yom
Teruah - The Feast of Trumpets/
Feast of Shofars/Feast of the great awakening blast.
According to the Torah commandment, this day should be a one-day Festival, an appointment with YHVH. It is to be a Shabbaton (a day of rest, but making of food is allowed). Should it fall on a Weekly Shabbat, then even the making of food is not allowed on the day itself, because a Weekly Shabbat is a “Shabbat Shabbaton” (Complete day of rest - NO work is allowed). A set apart meeting is assigned to this day of Teruah. (Vayiqra/Lev 23:24)

The word Teruah
In the Torah
commandment, YHVH does not give a reason for celebrating the day, but
inherent in the wording of the Commandment, is the way that we are to
celebrate it. The Hebrew noun for 'blowing of trumpets' is “te-ru-ah” and
the Interlinear translates it as, 'trumpet blast’.
The Theological Wordbook
notes that 'The primary meaning of the word Teruah is 'to raise a noise' by
shouting or with an instrument, especially a horn (Num. 10:7)' (referring
to the silver trumpets), 'or the traditional ram's horn, the 'shofar' (Yehoshua/Josh
6:5 “And it shall be, when they make a long blast with the
ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the horn, that all the people
shout with a great shout. And the wall of the city shall fall down flat,
and the people shall go up every man straight before him.”).
The Wordbook
goes on to share that our noun, teruah can have 'four distinct' meanings. All
of them revolve around the sound made by either a trumpet, a shofar,
a human voice or a combination of the three.
So, the word
“teruah” translated as 'trumpets' can also mean the breath one uses to shout
very loud, as in battle, as in victory, as in blowing the shofar or the
trumpet. The concept of joy mingled with this, what the Day is all about, is
again illustrated for us with King David shouting, rejoicing, dancing and
swirling, as the Ark of the Covenant enters Yerushalayim/Jerusalem:
2nd Sam. 6:15-16: 'So David and all the House of Israel brought up the
Ark of Yahveh with shouting (teruah), and with the sound of the
trumpet (shofar). Then it happened as the Ark of Yahveh came into the City
of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul, looked out of the window and saw
King David leaping and dancing before Yahveh, and she despised him in
her heart.'
In this verse, the word
for 'shouting' is literally, 'teruah' and the word for 'the sound of the
trumpet' should be translated, 'the sound of the shofar' as that is the Hebrew
word used there. Can you imagine the joy and excitement that King David and all
Yisrael demonstrated that day? This begins to reveal to us the way or attitude
in which the Day is to be celebrated. Another place where this account is recorded
has other instruments accompanying that celebration:
1st
Chron. 15:28:
'So all Israel brought up the Ark of the Covenant of Yahveh with great
shouting (teruah), and with the sound of the shofar and trumpets,
cymbals, lyre and harp.'
The great rejoicing that
we see King David and the entire House of Yisrael doing before YHVH, is the essence
of what the Feast is all about. For us today, we are called to proclaim how
grateful we are for what He has done for us, by sending the Messiah Yahshua
(salvation of Yah) to be our Mediator. There can be Proclamations, Joy and
Shouting, the Blasting of shofars and trumpets and other musical instruments,
singing and dancing and of course, food too!
Let us look now at the
actual Torah commandment as given in the different Books:
Vayiqra/Lev 23:24 And YHVH spoke to Mosheh (Moses) saying, speak to the sons of Yisrael
(Israel) saying, in the Seventh month on the first day of the month ( cdj=chodesh), you shall have a rest ( /wtBv = Shabbaton ), a reminder/memorial ( /wrKz=Zikaron) by blowing of shofars (huwrt=Teruah - clanger of trumpets as an
alarm, battle cry, acclamation of joy/high joyful sound, loud noise, etc,), a set
apart (vdq= kodesh) convocation ( ar qm = Miqra) (vdq ar qm huwrt
/wrKz). You shall not do any laborious work,
but you shall present an offering by fire to YHVH.
This passage in Vayiqra/Lev.
23:23-24 could also be translated: 'Speak to the Sons of Israel, saying,
'In the seventh month on the First Day of the month, you must have a Sabbath of
Living Remembrance with tremendous shouting of Joy Unspeakable!, the blasting
of trumpets and shofars in a set apart assembly.'
Bemidbar/Num.
29:1-2:
'Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you
must also have a set apart convocation. You must do no occupational
work. It will be to you a day ( -Yom)of
blowing the Shofars ( huwrt = Teruah) (T’ruah - a day of Joy Unspeakable etc).
You shall offer a Burnt Offering as a sweet aroma to YHVH: one bull, one
ram, and seven male lambs one year old without defect.
Yom
Teruah is also the Rosh Chodesh (New moon/ new month) of the Seventh month. So
it is also the first day of the Seventh Scriptural month on the Eternal’s
calendar
This is the Torah commandment concerning a Rosh
Chodesh (the new moon/new month):
Bemidbar/Num. 10:10
“And in the day of your gladness, and in your ( מועד ) appointed times , and
at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets (hrxxj = Chatzotzerah - Referring to the silver
trumpets) over your burnt offerings and over your peace offerings. And they
shall be a remembrance for you before your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim.” It was mainly the priests that blew the silver trumpets and the rest blew the ram’s
horns. So the silver trumpets that YHVH gave instruction
about in Bemidbar/Numbers 10, were to be blown by the Priests: Num 10:8 “And the sons of Aharon, the priests, blow
with the trumpets. And it shall be to you for a law forever throughout your
generations.
We can see in Tehillim/Ps 81:3
that the ram’s horns were also blowing at the Rosh Chodesh (the new
moon/new month).
Tehillim/Psa 81:3 Blow the ( rpwv ) – “shofar”
(which is translated in English as ram’s horn or trumpet) at the time of the New Moon (cdj) –“chodesh” ……..” We see that in the original, the word
“Shofar” is used here for blowing at Rosh Chodesh and not “Chatzotzerah”. So it wasn’t only the silver trumpets
that were blown.Trumpets and shofars
(ram’s horns- kosher horns like Kudu horns, also used since ancient times) are
used interchangeably in Scripture to relate to the sound of 'teruah.' So if we have sliver trumpets too to
blow with the Shofars on a Rosh Chodesh and the Rosh Chodesh of Yom Teruah then
it is wonderfull but if not then it is absolutely in order to blow with the
shofars (rams’horns and also Kudu horns - even other horns) alone.
Like
we have seen now, the different meanings of Teruah revolve around the sound
made by either a trumpet, a shofar, a human voice or a combination
of the three.
The Feast of Yom Teruah in connection with the End
Time;
Yahshua
will come on the clouds
Yom Teruah clearly speaks of end-time events that are yet to
occur. It also speaks of a time when Believers in Yahshua must prepare
themselves for his return. This day has neither been fulfilled (done away with)
nor is irrelevant to the modern Believer.
"It will be good for those servants whose master
finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself
to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he
comes in the second or third watch of the night. But understand this: If the
owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not
have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of
Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." (Lk 12: 37-40)
Shaul/Paul explains in Colossians 2:16-17 that the
Feasts of YHVH "are a shadow of things to come." The blowing
of the trumpets and or the shofar, on the Feast of Trumpets, is a shadow
pointing to the blowing of the trumpet and the shofar at the return of the
Messiah,
"For the Master himself will come down from heaven,
with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet
call of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah will rise first. After that, we who
are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds
to meet the Master in the air. And so we will be with the Master forever. Therefore encourage each
other with these words." (1 Th 4:16-18)
The Messiah Yahshua fulfilled in exact detail all 3
Spring Feasts/Appointments of YHVH at his first coming two thousand years ago.
They were: (Pesach (Passover), (Omer Resheet (First fruits) which is a Mitzvah
and not a Feast- no Shabbaton or set apart meeting is ascribed to this day-
only offerings of which the wave of the sheaves of the First fruits of the
Barley was most important while the Temple was still standing. But this day is
important in that it speaks of Yahshua who is the First Fruits of the
Resurrection), Chah HaMatzah (Unleavened Bread) and Shavuot (called Pentecost
which is a transliteration from the Greek word Pentecoste)[Pesach and
Unleavened Bread can be seen in unity]). Yahshua will in detail fulfill the four
remaining Fall Feasts (Yom Teruah, Yom HaKippurim, Sukkot and Shemeni Atzereth)
at his return, beginning with Yom Teruah/the Feast of Trumpets. It is so
important for us to learn about these Feasts and rehearse them year after year in
order to be prepared and ready for the coming of the Messiah! In the
word Miqra HaKodesh (set apart meeting) is also the meaning of “to rehearse”. The
Father has placed His Feasts (Chaggim), also called Appointed Times (Moadim) in
His Word for a reason. It portrays so beautifully the redemption plan of YHVH. Yahshua
has clearly told us, "Everything must be fulfilled that is written
about me in the Law (Torah) of Moshe, the Prophets and the Tehillim (Psalms)."
(Lk 24:44)
The parallels with the names and meanings that the Rabbis
assigned to this Day of Teruah
When you study what the Jewish rabbis teach about Yom
Teruah, it is amazing to see how exactly it lines up with what the Apostles
have written about Yahshua's second coming in the Second writings (the renewed
Covenant Scriptures what we called New Testament in the church). The Scriptures
truly is ONE book with ONE message from cover to cover. Here are some of the
things that the rabbis teach about Yom Teruah. We have added the Spiritual,
Messianic implications in bold letters.
1. Firstly, the primary name for this Feast: The
Feast of Trumpets is first of all called Yom Teruah because the Eternal
said that it must be a Day (Yom) of Teruah, which can be
translated as "The Day of the Awakening Blast"/ “The day of the alarm signal” – the
day when the shofar and the silver trumpet are blown in order to wake up those
who are asleep spiritually. Messianic Implication: it is the day of the first
resurrection. Paul wrote, "For the Master himself will come down from
heaven, …with the trumpet call of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah will
rise." (I Thes 4:16). What a day of trumpet blast that will be!
2. Secondly, Yom Teruah is called Yom HaZikaron, a "Day
of Remembrance." day
of memorial – when one remembers the Eternal and the Eternal remembers us. Implication:
This is also
a day to remind ourselves of the day when our Messiah will come in the Name and
authority of His Father. Paul wrote concerning the truth that Yahshua is coming
back, "Therefore encourage each other with these words." We
need to celebrate Yom Teruah to remind ourselves of this great day. It is to be
a set apart day before YHVH, set apart for Him as a day of remembrance, "a
set apart assembly commemorated with trumpet/shofar blasts."
3. Thirdly, Yom Teruah is called Yom HaDin,
the "Day of Judgment."– day of judgment – when the Eternal
evaluates all the people on the earth and writes down in different books what
will happen during the coming year. (Judaism). Implication: Paul said in Acts 17:31, "For
he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has
appointed." He explained further in 2 Thess 1:6-7, "Elohim is
just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you
who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Master Yahshua
is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful messengers."
The judgments that will be poured out upon the earth when
Yahshua returns (especially on the Day of YHVH), must not be confused with the
Great Tribulation, which is Satan's wrath against YHVH's people. If we are
right with the Eternal Father we will certainly escape His wrath on the Day of
YHVH, but we have never been promised to escape persecution and tribulation
from the devil, only that we will be strengthened to go through it and be over
comers. Many confuse the wrath of YHVH with the wrath of Satan, but we must not
do that.
4. Fourthly, Yom Teruah is called Yom HaKeseh "The
Hidden Day."–
the hidden day – which no one can know 100% FOR SURE ahead of time when it will
occur since it is dependent upon when the new moon is visible from
Yerushalayim. Implication: It is the only Feast that is
celebrated on the first day of a month. The Scriptural months always begin with
a new moon (“rosh chodesh”- rosh chodesh at the same time means “new month”).
In ancient times they watched the heavens to look for the first sign of the new
moon. They were not 100% certain when that would be. Yahshua said about the day
of his coming, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the messengers
in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. …Therefore keep watch,
because you do not know on what day your Master will come." (Matt
24:36,42)
5. Fifthly, Yom Teruah is called the Last Trumpet. Implication:
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, "Listen, I tell you a mystery:
We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling
of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be
raised imperishable, and we will be changed."
In the
here and now, the shofar is no longer blown during the 10 days from Yom Teruah
until on the Day of Atonement (Yom HaKippurim). The Feast is called the Last Trumpet, or the Last
Shofar, for two reasons. First of all, during the sixth month the shofar has
been blown every morning in the synagogues to wake people up and prepare them,
and then the final shofar is blown on Yom Teruah. Then there will be no more
shofar blown until the Day of Atonement (Yom Ha Kippurim) when a great long
blow will be blown again.
Secondly, the rabbis teach that there are only two times
in the Scriptures when the Eternal Himself blows the shofar. The first time was
at Sinai during Shavuot, when the
Torah was given. The second and last time will be when Messiah comes according
to Zechariah 9:14-15, "Then YHVH will appear over them; his
arrow will flash like lightning. The Sovereign YHVH will sound the trumpet;
he will march in the storms of the south, and YHVH Almighty will shield them."(Many
Messianic believers believe that Yahshua comes on the clouds with the “last
trumpet” and this “long great” shofar with Yom Kippur will be when Messiah’s
feet will touch the Mount of Olives.)
6. Sixthly, Yom Teruah is called the Wedding of the Messiah.
It is the final part of the wedding ceremony, the consummation of the marriage
called "the Lakach" when the Bridegroom takes us to his side to be
with him forever. Implication: (There is difference of interpretation
amongst Messianic believers about the consummation that might take place with
the Yom Kippur after Yahshua has come with Yom Teruah. Yom Teruah will be the
wedding ceremony and then the consummation takes place with the Yom Kippur part
and the Marriage supper and Feast, with Sukkot. This is all open for
speculation at this point in time.)
We know that the “Wedding of Messiah” is
in line with the teaching of the New Covenant writings. "And if I go
and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that
you also may be where I am." (Yochanan/Jn 14:3) All the Fall
Feasts (Fall as in the fall of Yisrael) are connected with the second coming of
the Master Yahshua. By the time of the first Sukkot/the Feast of Booths that
will take place in the Millennium, we will then celebrate the wedding supper of
the Lamb for a thousand years in physical Yerushalayim/Jerusalem.
Natan Lawrence: Moshe brought down from Mount Sinai the second set of stone
tablets containing the Ten Words/Statements (“Commandments”) to replace the
ones that had been broken earlier at the golden calf incident. After this,
Israel remained faithful to YHVH and never again built and worshipped a golden
calf until the time of King Jeroboam hundreds of years later. Similarly, on the
day of Shavuot/(Pentecost in Greek) in the first century the Torah of YHVH was
written into the hearts of the Messianic believers at that time by the “pen” of
the Spirit of YHVH, yet well before the middle of the second century the Called
out assembly/ Body of Messiah (called the “church”) had begun to go apostate,
had separated from its Hebraic and Torah-obedient roots, and was well on its
way to becoming the Catholic Church that we know today with its many
non-biblical and pagan-based traditions, many of which the Protestant churches
have inherited. When Yahshua returns on or near Yom Teruah at the end of the
age, he will be ready to marry a bride that is without spot and wrinkle who has
come out of the Babylonish religious whore system. This system called the
“church” contains both truth and error (Rev. 18:4). The true bride who will be
wearing the robes of righteousness of Torah-obedience (Rev. 12:17;
14:12; 19:7-9) will be ready to receive and enter into the marriage ceremony with
Yahshua, the Bridegroom—ever to remain faithful to him and never to stray into
Baal/golden calf worship again. He will lead his wife, (even as he led in the
pillar of fire the younger generation in the wilderness) into the Promised
Land of the Messianic Age or Millennium (by the time of Sukkot). This is the
main picture of Yom Teruah. End of quote.
7 Seventhly: This Feast is also called HaMelech – the King – when the
Eternal will be acknowledged and then declared as the King of the world sitting
on his throne. Implication: Yahshua will come in His Father’s
authority to rule and reign from Yerushalayim for a thousand years as the King
of kings and the Master of master, on behalf of His Father. The whole world
will know that YHVH is the only true Elohim and that He has given all authority
in heaven and in earth to His Son, HaMashiach Yahshua. (See I Cor 15)
8. Eighthly:
T’shuvah – repentance – the last ten days of a 40 day period
leading up to Yom HaKippurim. Judaism believe these days are especially serious
days, when one is called to repentance from sin so that one’s name is not
written in the book of death, but rather in the book of life. There is a
special gate of mercy they believe, that is opened in heaven during these ten
days.
9. Ninthly:
This day is also called Rosh Hashanah.
Yom Teruah versus Rosh Hashanah
In spite of the fact that Judaism acknowledges this day
as the “Yom Teruah” most of the Jewish community today will know it mainly as “Rosh
Hashanah” which means "the head of the year" or "the first of
the year." This is not fully Scriptural though unless we understand
it correctly. Nowhere in Scripture is this festival referred to as the Rosh
Hashana, which literally means head of the year and nowhere
is it said that this must be the preferred name for this Appointment.
Batya Wooten suggests that the Scriptures that are normally used for seeing
this Festival as the beginning of a new year, is Shemot/Ex 23:16 and 34:22.
“Shemot/Exo 23:16 and the Festival of the Harvest, the
first-fruits of your labours which you have sown in the field; and the Festival
of the Ingathering at the outgoing of the year, when you have gathered
in the fruit of your labours from the field. Exo 34:22 “And perform the
Festival of Weeks for yourself, of the first-fruits of wheat harvest, and the
Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year”. She shows out that the understanding of these two
Scriptures can be based on a misunderstanding.
Did the Father change His mind
on the “new year” as He announced it in Shemot/Exodus 12 (the beginning
of the first month of the year is to be from now on the month of the Aviv which
corresponds with March/April)? What did
He mean when He said “outgoing of the year” (some translations say “end of the
year”), and “turn of the year”? She suggests that the Father’s Feast Calendar
which go hand in hand with Yisrael’s agricultural seasons, are based on a
seven-month-ling cycle. The feasts begin with Pesach and end 7 months later
with Sukkot (Feast of Booths) and Shemeni Atzereth (Eighth day assembly). This
agricultural year begin with the Spring barley harvest during the season of
Pesach and ends with the Fall fruit harvest at Sukkot, and then the last
one-day Feast called Shemeni Atzereth. If this view is accurate, then it means
that the agricultural year ends with the Fall festivals and the new year
did not begin the next day. Instead it began the next Spring in the month of
Abib/Aviv. Ancient Yisrael was an agriculturally-based nation. Their feast celebrations involved their entire
lives and they revolved around the planting seasons. Their Agricultural
calendar only included 7 lunar-based months, which began with the first harvest
in the month of Abib/Aviv. However, Yisrael also functioned in a world that had
(and still does have) a twelve –month-long calendar year related to the solar
cycle of the sun, which is based on the rotation of the earth around the sun.
Yisrael’s twelve-month-long solar calendar likewise must begin in Abib/Aviv (Shemot/Exodus 12). To do less is to ignore the decree of the One who sets this in its place. End of what Batya Wootten says about this matter.
So the Scriptural New Year according to Torah is
in the spring, corresponding with the exodus out of Mitsrayim/Egypt
and our new birth. In Shemot/Exodus 12:2, YHVH instructs the Children
of Yisrael that the month of the abib/aviv barley grain would be the
beginning of months for them. Fourteen days after the beginning of this
First month the Passover occurs. The beginning of the Scriptural (biblical)
year is in the early spring of the year when plant life is bursting forth from
a long dead winter season. It is a picture of spiritual rebirth or redemption for YHVH’s people.
Was there a time that
the month of the Aviv was not the beginning of months?
Yes, from Creation until the exodus, the
Seventh month could have been the First month then. We see in Torah
how from the beginning of Creation, years were counted. But now just before the
Exodus, the Eternal said that the month of the Aviv (when the barley was
ready) when the Yisraelites had to flee Mitsrayim/Egypt, must be the First
month of Months. Exo
12:1 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon in the land
of Mitsrayim, saying, Exo 12:2 “This
month is the beginning of months for you, it is the first month of the year for
you.
When YHVH spoke this to Mosheh in Mitsrayim/Egypt (Shemot/Ex
12), the Eternal sets in place a beginning of months for a Spiritual new
year which sets the Chagim (the Feasts of YHVH) or the Appointed times
(Moadim) in place. The word Moadim is also used for the Feasts and means
“Appointed Times”. So YHVH wanted to make sure that the annual Appointments
that He is to have with his people will be obeyed from that month, the Month
of the Aviv, beginning at Pesach on the 14th day of this first
month of the Aviv, for all Generations. This month of Aviv is then the true
“Rosh Hashanah” of the “Spiritual new year” and Yom Teruah is the “Rosh
HaShanah” only in the “Counting of calendar years” since creation. The Seventh
Scriptural month sets the counting of years in place since creation.
This time of the year is
according to Torah the time that the Smittah years (Sabbatical year of
every seven year cycle) should be announced. This is one of the
confirmations that show us that up to the Exodus, the now Seventh month was the
First month of a 12 month cycle which makes a year. Every seven years the Torah
was to be read loud out at the time of Sukkot (15 days later than Yom
Teruah): Devarim/Deu 31:10 And Mosheh
commanded them, saying, “At the end of seven years, at the appointed time, the
year of release, at Sukkot (the Festival of Booths)
Deu 31:11 when all Yisra’ĕl
comes to appear before יהוה your Elohim in the
place which He chooses, read this Torah before all Yisra’ĕl in their hearing.” and
every Jubilee year (Vayiqra/Lev 25:8,9,10) the Shofar was to be blown on
a Yom Kippur for the Fiftieth Sabbatical year called a Jubilee. So
we can see that the counting of years had to take place during the
Seventh Scriptural Month. In Talmudic times, Rosh HaShanah became a celebration
of the Anniversary of the world's creation and a day of self-examination, repentance
and judgment. It became thus also an anniversary for the creation of the First
Adam. What is interesting is that according to many Scriptural signs this is
also when the last Adam, Yahshua the Messiah was born. (You can ask for
the article “When was Messiah born”) –We have seen that a King’s coronation is
also always announced with the sounding of a shofar or trumpet. So in the Torah we can see that years
were counted since creation up to today (except for the plus minus 210 years
that were not counted – this is a controversy), during the Fall Appointment’s
time (Yom Teruah to Sukkot and Shemeni Atzereth) which fall in the Seventh
Scriptural month.
It is believed with good reason that the reckoning of
the Rabbinical calendar's counting of years since creation can be out with plus
minus 210 years (there are many controversies around this issue though). We
could possibly though be very near the beginning of the Seventh thousandth
year. When the count of Sixth thousandth year is reached, it means that six
thousand years have almost passed since creation and now at the same time it
will be the beginning of the Seventh thousand year (the Millennium.) Here again
we can also see the importance of the counting of years during this time.
We will certainly be at the start of the Seventh Thousand
year called the Millennium, when Messiah returns on a future Feast of Yom
Teruah after the great tribulation. Yom Teruah is the beginning of the final
ten days of repentance leading up to the Day of Atonement. It is a season to
make things right with both the Eternal and fellow man in a special way. The
hour is late and we must make ourselves ready for the Bridegroom.
The
different names attached to this Feast are portrayed in the Second Writings
(NT)
Says
Dr Blad: If we
look at these different names that Judaism attaches to this feast, we can see
that Yom Teruah was written about quite a bit in the apostolic Scriptures,
the Second Writings (“NT”). The message of the “sleeping one being awakened”
is a reference to Yom Teruah, see Ephesians 5:14. The expression “in
the blink of an eye”, “the last trumpet”, “the books opened”,
“a door open in heaven”, “no one knows the day or the hour”, “he
shall send out his messengers with the sound of a loud trumpet”, “he who
sits on the throne”, “stand before the seat of judgment”, “the bridegroom is
coming”, “the book of life”, “names written in heaven”, etc are all
speaking of Yom Teruah. The message of the King being seated on the throne
of esteem and dividing between the nations is speaking of Yom
Teruah, see Matthew 25:31-46.
The
book of Revelation is written within the framework of the feasts in the seventh
month, which have not yet had their fulfillment in the Messiah.
The
first three Feasts between Pesach and Shavuot (with Omer Reisheet/waving of the
sheaf of the First Fruits of the barley in between) had their first fulfillment
when the Messiah came the first time, but the last four feasts will have their
final fulfillment when the Messiah comes back and the Eternal establishes his
kingdom on the earth. (Some Messianic believers put Omer Reisheet as a feast
and put Sukkot and Shemeni Atzereth as one and thus they will have 4 Spring
Feasts and three Fall Feasts (we personally go for the other interpretation). Then
Yom Teruah will be the introduction of the great final events that the Eternal
has pre-determined for the world since before time was created.
The
apostolic Scriptures have so many references that prove that the Messiah will
come back on Yom Teruah. That is when the dead in Yahshua will rise, judgment
will be held, and one has to give account before the Eternal concerning the way
one has lived. The Millennium Reign of Yahshua will start and He will rule and
reign from Yerushalayim (physical Yerushalayim). We who place our trust in the
mercy of the Eternal, that has been given to us through the atoning work of the
Messiah, will then finally be found written down in the Book of life and will
receive a lot in the coming age according to our faithfulness in this present
life. After the Millennium reign, will come the Eighth Day when the
renewed heaven and Renewed earth will be and renewed
Yerushalayim will come down out of the
heaven from Elohim. (Rev 21).
Colossians 2:16-17 says that the feasts of the new
moons are shadows of what is coming. Everything points to that Yahshua was born
on Yom Teruah, the birthday of Adam. On Yom Teruah, the hidden day, Yahshua
will also come back on the clouds with great power and great esteem! (Some
believe that Yahshua was born during Sukkot and this view point also has its
pros).
“Behold,
I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a
moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last shofar. For the shofar will
sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.” (1 Cor. 15:51-52) End of quote
from Dr Blad.
Endtime Harvest
before the Millennium starts
Yom Teruah is also the time of the reaping of the
summer harvest. Spiritually speaking, this period could possibly be the time of
the reaping of the righteous to their reward (Rev. 14:4 “They are those who were not defiled with women, for they
are maidens. They are those following the Lamb wherever He leads them on. They
were redeemed from among men, being first-fruits to Elohim and to the
Lamb”) and
the harvest of the wicked to the great winepress of Elohim’s wrath
(Rev. 14:14-20 And I looked and saw a white
cloud, and sitting on the cloud was One like the Son of Aḏam, having on His
head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. And another messenger came
out of the Dwelling Place, crying with a loud voice to the One sitting on the
cloud, “Send Your sickle and reap, because the hour has come for You to reap, because
the harvest of the earth is ripe.”And the One sitting on the cloud thrust in
His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. And another messenger came
out of the Dwelling Place which is in the heaven, and he too held a sharp
sickle. And another messenger came out from the altar, having authority over
the fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him having the sharp sickle, saying,
“Send your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth,
because her grapes are ripe.”And the messenger thrust his sickle into the earth
and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of
the wrath of Elohim. And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and
blood came out of the winepress, up to the bridles of the horses, for about
three hundred kilometres.). It is possibly the time of the resurrection of the
dead in Messiah Yahshua at the end of the tribulation (Matt. 24:29) and the
beginning of Elohim’s wrath being poured out upon the nations (see Joel 3:11-13).
This begins the Wrath-of- Elohim -time pictured by Yom Kippur (the Day of
Atonement, which occurs ten days after Yom Teruah) before which time the dead in
Yahshua will have been resurrected and given their spiritual, esteemed bodies. The
Millennium will start with Sukkot.
Watching and waiting - We must encourage one another to take these
Scriptural lessons to heart that YHVH has given us in his Appointed Times.
Remember "the blessed hope and the appearing of the esteem of our great
Master and Saviour, Messiah Yahshua" (Tit 2:13) and rejoice in this
hope. Take time to seek Elohim's face. The Scriptures says, "So then,
dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be
found spotless, blameless and at peace with him." (2 Pet 3:14) The
Messiah is coming soon!
Our Master has told us, "It will be good for
those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the
truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and
will come and wait on them." (Lk 12: 37) This is a time to be watching
and waiting and be ready for the Messiah.
It is to Yerushalayim that Yahshua will return. Matt 19:28 says, And יהושע said to them, “Truly I say to you, when the Son of Aḏam sits on the throne of His esteem, you who have followed Me in the rebirth, shall also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Yisra’ĕl.
May we be found watching and waiting! - Rev 19:7 “Let
us be glad and rejoice and give Him praise, for the marriage of the Lamb has
come, and His wife prepared herself.”
