Parashat 29 Portion 94 ‘’Metzora’’ Lev 15 :1-25 Hosea 6 :1-11

Blessed are You, Yahveh our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah. Please Yahveh, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are You, Yahveh, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, Yahveh our Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the Torah. Blessed are You, Yahveh, Giver of the Torah.

The Ruach of YHVH has given us this week’s Torah instruction in the form of a chiastic structure.

  1.  Introduction  (vs 1,2)

    B. Abnormal male discharge (vs 2b-15)

C.      Normal male discharge   (vs 15,17)

X.  Marital relations     (vs18)

                              C. Normal female discharge (vs 19-24)

                     B. Abnormal female discharge  (vs 25-30)

        A.  Summary (vs 31-33)

We see the focus of the Torah portion is on marital purity. We can safely assume this can also refer to a “bride without spot or wrinkle” waiting and preparing for her soon coming Bridegroom.

Sadly, the reality today is that believers who desire to be part of the Bride of Messiah have been profoundly defiled by the defiled seed of false doctrines and disobedience to the Torah – the marriage covenant between YHVH and Yisrael is being renewed and revived once again in our time.

1Pe 1:23  having been born again – not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible – through the living Word of Elohim, which remains forever, Luke 1:38

The end of this parashah contains a serious warning - Lev 15:31  ‘Thus you shall separate the children of Yisra’ĕl from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness when they defile My Dwelling Place which is in their midst.

אישׁ אישׁ כי – ‘’when a man a man’’

Lev 15:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, saying,

Lev 15:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and say to them, ‘When any man(אישׁ אישׁ כי) has a discharge from his flesh, his discharge is unclean.

Why repeat ‘’man’’ twice in this parasha? Most of the verses in this Torah portion are focused on men. Also, husbands need to take the responsibility over their wives (not the pastors or rabbis) to ensure they both comply with these and all other instructions in the Torah - Eph 5:24  But as the assembly is subject to Messiah, so also let the wives be to their own husbands in every respect.

Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, as Messiah also did love the assembly and gave Himself for it,

Eph 5:26  in order to set it apart and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word,[f] Footnote: f Rev_19:8-9

Eph 5:27  in order to present it to Himself a splendid assembly, not having spot or wrinkle or any of this sort, but that it might be set-apart and blameless.

Eph 5:28  In this way husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Eph 5:29  For no one ever hated his own flesh, but feeds and cherishes it, as also the Master does the assembly.

Eph 5:30  Because we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

Eph 5:31  “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” Gen_2:24

Eph 5:32  This secret is great, but I speak concerning Messiah and the assembly.

Eph 5:33  However, you too, everyone, let each one love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she fears her husband.

Abnormal male discharge (vs 2b-15)

Lev 15:2  “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and say to them, ‘When any man(אישׁ אישׁ כי) has a discharge (Heb ‘’zav’’ an infectious flow)from his flesh, his discharge is unclean.

Lev 15:3  ‘And this is his uncleanness in regard to his discharge; whether his flesh runs with his discharge, or his flesh is stopped up by his discharge, it is his uncleanness.

Lev 15:4  ‘Any bed becomes unclean on which he who has the discharge lies, and any object on which he sits becomes unclean. (why and how could these infections happen?)

Lev 15:5  ‘And anyone who touches his bed has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:6  ‘And he who sits on any object on which he who has the discharge sat, has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:7  ‘And he who touches the flesh of him who has the discharge has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and shall be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:8  ‘And when he who has the discharge spits (sneezes) on him who is clean, then he shall wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:9  ‘Any saddle on which he who has the discharge rides becomes unclean.

Lev 15:10  ‘And whoever touches any of that which was under him is unclean until evening. And he who is carrying them up has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:11  ‘And anyone whom he who has the discharge touches without rinsing his hands in water, shall wash his garments and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:12  ‘And the earthen vessel which he who has the discharge touches has to be broken, and every wooden vessel has to be rinsed in water.

Lev 15:13  ‘And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, and shall wash his garments, and shall bathe his flesh in running water, and be clean.

Lev 15:14  ‘And on the eighth day he takes for himself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and shall come before יהוה, to the door of the Tent of Appointment, and shall give them to the priest.

Lev 15:15  ‘And the priest shall prepare them, the one as a sin offering and the other as an ascending offering. And the priest shall make atonement for him before יהוה because of his discharge.

Normal male discharge   (vs 15,17)

Lev 15:16  ‘And when a man has an emission of semen, (שׁכבת זרע)then he shall wash all his flesh in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:17  ‘And any garment and any leather on which there is semen, shall also be washed with water, and be unclean until evening.

The focus or ‘’chais’’ of this Torah portion.

Lev 15:18  ‘And when a woman lies with a man, and there is an emission of semen, they both shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Normal female discharge (vs 19-24)

Lev 15:19  ‘And when a woman has a discharge, and the discharge (זבה) from her flesh is blood, she has to be in her separation for seven days. And whoever touches her is unclean until evening.

Lev 15:20  ‘And whatever she lies on during her separation is unclean. And whatever she sits on is unclean.

Lev 15:21  ‘And anyone who touches her bed has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:22  ‘And whoever touches any object that she sat on has to wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:23  ‘And if it is on the bed or on any object on which she sits, when he touches it, he is unclean until evening.

Lev 15:24  ‘And if a man lies with her at all, and her monthly flow is on him, he shall be unclean seven days. And any bed he lies on is unclean.

Abnormal female discharge  (vs 25-30)

Lev 15:25  ‘And when a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, other than at the time of her monthly separation, or when she discharges beyond her usual time of monthly separation, all the days of her unclean discharge shall be as the days of her monthly separation. She is unclean - Mark 5:25-29

Lev 15:26  ‘Any bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge is to her as the bed of her monthly separation. And whatever she sits on is unclean, as the uncleanness of her monthly separation.

Lev 15:27  ‘And anyone who touches them is unclean, and shall wash his garments, and shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Lev 15:28  ‘But if she is cleansed of her discharge, then she shall count for herself seven days, and after that she is clean.

Lev 15:29  ‘And on the eighth day she takes for herself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and shall bring them to the priest, to the door of the Tent of Appointment.

Lev 15:30  ‘And the priest shall prepare the one as a sin offering and the other as an ascending offering, and the priest shall make atonement for her before יהוה for the discharge of her uncleanness.

Summary (vs 31-33)

Lev 15:31  ‘Thus you shall separate the children of Yisra’ěl from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness when they defile My Dwelling Place which is in their midst.

Lev 15:32  ‘This is the Torah for one who has a discharge, and for him who emits semen and is unclean thereby,

Lev 15:33  and for her who is sick in her monthly separation, and for one who has a discharge, either man or woman, and for him who lies with an unclean woman.’ ”

What is the significance of this Torah portion?

Since the fall of man in the garden humanity has suffered from sexual dysfunction.

A new survey reveals Americans—including evangelicals—are often confused about what constitutes a righteous scriptural world view concerning normal human sexuality.

• Watching pornography without your partner (31 percent)

• Going to a strip club without your partner (37 percent)

• Going out to dinner with someone that you are attracted to (53 percent)

• Sending flirtatious messages to someone besides your partner (58 percent)

• Being emotionally involved with someone besides your partner (67 percent)

• Actively maintaining an online dating profile (68 percent)

• Sending sexually explicit messages to someone other than your partner (75 percent)

• Romantically kissing someone other than your partner (78 percent)

• Having a one-night stand with someone other than your partner (77 percent)

• Having regular sexual relations with someone other than your partner (82 percent)

The instruction of the Torah regarding human sexuality is most often neglected or misrepresented.

Vayikra/Leviticus chapter 18 gives an extensive guide as WHAT IS NOT ACCEPTAPTABLE HUMAN SEXUAL PRACTICE. Tragically religious leaders have not instructed YHVH’s people about what is Set Apart and what is PROFANE when it comes to this issue. The consequences have been catastrophic. The consequences of sexual sin form much of the instruction of this Torah portion.

Most religious leaders have failed to declare all of YHVH’s counsel regarding this matter

Act 20:26  “Therefore I witness to you this day that I am clear from the blood of all.

Act 20:27  “For I kept not back from declaring to you all the counsel of Elohim.

Act 20:28  “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Set-apart Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of Elohim which He has purchased with His own blood.

Act 20:29  “For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves[c] shall come in among you, not sparing the flock. Footnote: c Mat_7:15-23, Mat_10:16, Luk_10:3, Joh_10:12, Act_20:29

Act 20:30  “Also from among yourselves men shall arise, speaking distorted teachings, to draw away the taught ones after themselves.

Mat 23:13  “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the reign of the heavens before men, for you do not go in, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

If any person is regularly involved in any form of sexual sin, he or she will not enter into the kingdom of YHVH. The teaching of scripture is very clear on this issue.

1Co 6:9  Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the reign of Elohim? Do not be deceived. Neither those who whore, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

1Co 6:10  nor thieves, nor greedy of gain, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers shall inherit the reign of Elohim.[a] Footnote: aSee Gal_5:19-21, Eph_5:3-5

Principles for Marriage

1Co 7:1  And concerning the matters you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

1Co 7:2  But because of whoring, let each one have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

1Co 7:3  Let the husband render to his wife what is her due, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

1Co 7:4  The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

1Co 7:5  Do not deprive one another except with agreement for a time, to give yourselves to fasting and prayer. And come together again so that Satan does not try you because of your lack of self-control.

1Co 7:6  And I say this as a concession, not as a command.

1Co 7:7  For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from Elohim, one in this way and another in that.

1Co 7:8  And I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am,

1Co 7:9  but if they do not have self-control, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn.

1Co 7:10  And to the married I command, not I, but the Master: A wife should not separate from a husband.

1Co 7:11  But if she is indeed separated, let her remain unmarried or be restored to favour with her husband, and let a husband not send away a wife.

1Co 7:12  And to the rest I say, not the Master: If any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she thinks well to live with him, let him not send her away.

1Co 7:13  And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he thinks well to live with her, let her not send him away.

1Co 7:14  For the unbelieving husband has been set-apart in the wife, and the unbelieving wife has been set-apart in the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are set-apart.

1Co 7:15  And, if the unbelieving one separates, let him separate himself. A brother or a sister has not been enslaved in such matters. But Elohim has called us to peace.

1Co 7:16  For how do you know, O wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you shall save your wife?

Eventually in the last days a remnant will realize how serious this matter truly is.

Isa 4:1  And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, “We shall eat our own food and wear our own clothes; only let us be called by your name, to take away our reproach.”

1Co 11:8  For man is not from woman, but woman from man.

1Co 11:9  For man also was not created for the woman, but woman for the man.

1Co 11:10  Because of this the woman ought to have authority[e] on her head, because of the messengers. Footnote: eSome say “a symbol of authority.”
