Parashat 2 Portion 6 Ber/Gen 8:1-14 Hab 3:1-5 Rev 1:9-20

Gen 8:1  And Elohim remembered Noaḥ, and all the beasts and all the cattle that were with him in the ark. And Elohim made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.

To the casual observer the above verse may seem insensitive and uncaring in the face of the most terrible and horrific destruction that had just taken place. YHVH seems to be only concerned about one man and his animals. What about the millions of people and other animals that had just lost their lives? Shouldn’t YHVH also have remembered them?
This reminds us of how Lot’s righteous soul was tormented by the unrighteousness of his day.

Pe 2:7  and rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the indecent behaviour of the lawless1 – Torahlessness -  Footnote: 1The Greek word here, and in 3:17, is athesmos (not the usual one, anomos) but it also means “lawless – implies continually overturning the truth.”
2Pe 2:8  (for day after day that righteous man, dwelling among them, tortured his righteous being by seeing and hearing their lawless works),

So YHVH remembers (va yizkor)  a small end time remnant who are slandered by fellow believers the same slanderer’s who love to gorge themselves with flesh of swine and indulge themselves in the pagan festivals of Christmas and Easter, who mock and make fun of those who honour the Sabbath and keep YHVH’s commandments.

Isa 59:14  And right-ruling1 is driven back, and righteousness1 stands far off. For truth has fallen in the street, and right is unable to enter. Footnote: 1Amos 5:7. Isa 59:15  And the truth is lacking, and whoever turns away from evil makes himself a prey. And יהוה saw, and it displeased Him that there was no right-ruling – mishpatim.

Amo 5:13  Therefore the wise keep silent at that time, for it is an evil time.
Amo 5:14  Seek good and not evil, so that you live. And let יהוה Elohim of hosts be with you, as you have spoken.

2Ti 3:1  But know this, that in the last days hard times shall come.
2Ti 3:2  For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers,
2Ti 3:3  unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, haters of good,
2Ti 3:4  betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Elohim,
2Ti 3:5  having a form of reverence1 but denying its power. And turn away from these! Footnote: 1See v. 13, Isa. 24:5-6, Mt. 24:12, Rom. 1:30-31, 2 Thess. 2:3-11.

2Th 2:3  Let no one deceive you in any way, because the falling away is to come first, and the man of lawlessness1  is to be revealed, the son of destruction, Footnote: 1Some texts read sin instead of lawlessness(Torahlessness). This man might be the same one we read of in the prophecy in Isa. 14:12 – Hĕlĕl (“Heileil”), meaning “the shining one,” the sovereign of Baḇel.
2Th 2:4  who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called Elohim or that is worshipped, so that he sits as Elohim in the Dwelling Place of Elohim, showing himself that he is Elohim.
2Th 2:5  Do you not remember that I told you this while I was still with you?
2Th 2:6  And now you know what restrains, for him to be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7  For the secret of lawlessness(Torahlessness) is already at work – only until he who now restrains comes out of the midst.
2Th 2:8  And then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Master shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth and bring to naught with the manifestation of His coming.
2Th 2:9  The coming of the lawless one(Torahlessness one) is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,
2Th 2:10  and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order for them to be saved.
2Th 2:11  And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood,1 Footnote: 1Eze. 20:25, John 9:39, John 12:40, Acts 7:42, Rom. 1:24-28.
2Th 2:12  in order that all should be judged who did not believe the truth, but have delighted in the unrighteousness.

Joh 16:1  “These words I have spoken to you, so that you do not stumble.
Joh 16:2  “They shall put you out of the congregations, but an hour is coming when everyone who kills you shall think he is rendering service to Elohim.

Parashat 2 Portion 5 Ber/Gen 6:9-7:24 Yesh/Is 54:9-10 1 Pet 3:13-22

Mat 24:35  “The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.
Mat 24:36  “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only.1 Footnote:1Mk. 13:32.
Mat 24:37  “And as the days of Noaḥ, so also shall the coming of the Son of Aḏam be.
Mat 24:38  “For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noaḥ entered into the ark,
Mat 24:39  and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also shall the coming of the Son of Aḏam be.

These are the words of our Messiah – He is telling us that no one knows the hour when destruction shall come upon those who are not under his protection. The Messiah is also saying that very,  very few people are going to make it in the last days.

“Just think about this sobering fact for a minute. There are many commentators that say the population back in Noach's day was in the millions. And yet only 8 people were saved! - Noach and his family. That's it! Just think about that, only 8 people truly trusted in YHVH and followed His will”

But neither groups of people from the generation of Noach and Lot would listen to the 'present truth' of their time and judgment came swiftly upon them unawares!

2Pe 1:12  And so I intend to remind you of these matters again and again, though you know them and have been established in the present truth.

2Pe 2:4  For if Elohim did not spare the messengers who sinned, but sent them to Tartaros, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be kept for judgment, - Τάρταρος Tartaros̄ (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: -
2Pe 2:5  and did not spare the world of old, but preserved Noaḥ, a proclaimer of righteousness, and seven others, bringing in the flood on the world of the wicked,
2Pe 2:6  and having reduced to ashes the cities of Seḏom and Amorah condemned them to destruction – having made them an example to those who afterward would live wickedly,
2Pe 2:7  and rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the indecent behaviour of the lawless1 Footnote: 1The Greek word here, and in 3:17, is athesmos (not the usual one, anomos) but it also means “lawless.”
2Pe 2:8  (for day after day that righteous man, dwelling among them, tortured his righteous being by seeing and hearing their lawless (Torahless) works),
2Pe 2:9  then יהוה knows how to rescue the reverent ones from trial and to keep the unrighteous unto the day of judgment, to be punished,

Rev 14:12  Here is the endurance of the set-apart ones,1 here are those guarding the commands of Elohim and the belief of יהושע.2 Footnotes: 1In 12:17 they are called “the remnant”

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands of Elohim and possessing the witness of יהושע Messiah.

“A "woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head" is seen (Revelation 12:1). According to Genesis 37:9,10, these represented the first family of Yisrael: Yakov (the "sun"), Rachel (the "moon"), and Yakov's twelve sons (the "twelve stars"). Yisrael was the "embodiment" of the Law/Torah, which consists of YHVH's eternal commandments, rules, and guidelines.” http://www.tedmontgomery.com/bblovrvw/emails/thewoman.html

Our Torah portion:

Gen 6:9  This is the genealogy of Noaḥ. Noaḥ was a righteous man, perfect in his generations. Noaḥ walked with Elohim.

The Hebrew word for “perfect” (8549) is an adjective and comes from the verb “tammam”(8552).
“tammam” means to “complete or to make it to the end” – Php 1:6  being persuaded of this, that He who has begun a good work in you shall perfect1 it until the day of יהושע Messiah. Footnote: 1Mt. 5:48.

Mat 10:22  “And you shall be hated by all for My Name’s sake. But he who shall have endured to the end shall be saved.1 Footnote: 1See 24:13.

“Elohim hithalech Noach” or “Elohim walked about with Noach” – note the order of the sentence and the use of the hitpael verb. It was YHVH who walked about with Noach.
Joh 15:16  “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name He might give you.

Gen 6:10  And Noaḥ brought forth three sons: Shĕm, Ḥam, and Yepheth.

Noach means “rest”. Shem means “name” and implies authority honour and character (Ha Shem) Ham or Cham means “hot”. Canaan was the son of Cham and we all know what he did!!! These descendants seemed to have spawned civilizations that were deeply involved in depraved sexual behaviour. Yepeth means “opened” the 3rd son of Noah whose descendants after the flood settled on the coastal lands of the Mediterranean spreading north into Europe and parts of Asia.

Gen 6:11  And the earth was corrupt before Elohim, and the earth was filled with violence.

The Hebrew says -  “All the earth had become corrupt”. The Hebrew word for “corrupt” is “shachat.” This word clearly conveys a meaning that an object or person in this state is beyond human redemption.

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall ……..

According to popular opinion it was sin and rebellion that caused the flood to come, yet the word “sin or rebellion” is not used once in this parasha.
“Shachat” is the Hebrew word used as the reason for the destruction of the flood. It is found in different places in the scriptures:

Jer 18:4  And the vessel that he made of clay was ruined (shachat) in the hand of the potter, so he remade it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.

The vessel could not be repaired, it had to be remade.

Without Messiah we are a “shachats” people. Sadly most of our teaching and preaching today does not adequately address the seriousness of our condition. Our pulpits are filled with motivational messages and send a clear message that “things” are not “so bad”.

When Yeshayahu saw YHVH his own condition was revealed and  he cried out:

Isa 6:5  And I said, “Woe (oivai) to me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips – for my eyes have seen the Sovereign, יהוה of hosts.”

Gen 6:12  And Elohim looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt – for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth –  niphal verb is used which means “become corrupt” (nishchat)

Gen 6:12  And Elohim looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt – for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth –
Gen 6:13  and Elohim said to Noaḥ, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence (Heb - chamas) through them. And see, I am going to destroy them from the earth.

Vs 11,12,13 all contain word ‘shachat’ Strongs 7843 which means “ marred beyond recognition”

Gen 6:14  “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with tar.
Gen 6:15  “And this is how you are to make it: The length of the ark is three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
Gen 6:16  “Make a window for the ark, and complete it to a cubit from above. And set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks.
Gen 6:17  “And see, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life from under the heavens – all that is on the earth is to die.
Gen 6:18  “And I shall establish My covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.
Gen 6:19  “And of all the living creatures of all flesh, two of each, you are to bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you – a male and a female.
Gen 6:20  “Of the birds after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, and of all creeping creatures of the earth after their kind, two of each are to come to you, to keep them alive.
Gen 6:21  “As for you, take of all food that is eaten and gather it to yourself. And it shall be food for you and for them.”
Gen 6:22  And Noaḥ did according to all that Elohim commanded him, so he did.

Vs 22 also appears in Ex 40:16 And Mosheh did according to all that יהוה had commanded him, so he did.

We see many comparisons between the ark of Noach and the tabernacle of Moshe. Both were designed and initiated by YHVH and built by man. Both had three main sections. Both had one entrance. Both were made with wood and covered. Both were mobile, one moved by water and one moved through the desert. Both travelled, one for period for 40 days and one for 40 years. Both had special features that measured one cubit by one cubit, the window in the ark and the golden altar of incense and both point us to Messiah’s ministry and our call to be co heirs with him.
Gen 7:1  And יהוה said to Noaḥ, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.

The Hebrew word for "ark," teivah, also means "word." "Come into the word," says YHVH; enter within the words of prayer and Torah study. Here you will find a sanctuary of wisdom, meaning and set apartness amidst the raging floodwaters of life - Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov

Gen 7:2  “Of all the clean beasts take with you seven pairs, a male and his female; and of the beasts that are unclean two, a male and his female;
Gen 7:3  and of birds of the heavens seven pairs, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth.
Gen 7:4  “For after seven more days I am sending rain on the earth, forty days and forty nights, and shall wipe from the face of the earth all that stand that I created.”
Gen 7:5  And Noaḥ did according to all that יהוה commanded him.
Gen 7:6  Now Noaḥ was six hundred years old when the flood-waters were on the earth.
Gen 7:7  And Noaḥ and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives went into the ark because of the waters of the flood.
Gen 7:8  Of the clean beasts and of the beasts that are unclean, and of birds, and of all that creep on the earth,
Gen 7:9  two by two they went into the ark to Noaḥ, male and female, as Elohim had commanded Noaḥ.
Gen 7:10  And it came to be after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth.
Gen 7:11  In the six hundredth year of Noaḥ’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of the heavens were opened.
Gen 7:12  And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.
Gen 7:13  On that same day Noaḥ and Shĕm and Ḥam and Yepheth, the sons of Noaḥ, and Noaḥ’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark,
Gen 7:14  they and every living creature after its kind, and every beast after its kind, and every creeping creature that creeps on the earth after its kind, and every bird after its kind, every bird of every sort.
Gen 7:15  And they went into the ark to Noaḥ, two by two, of all flesh in which is the breath of life.
Gen 7:16  And those going in, male and female of all flesh, went in as Elohim had commanded him, and יהוה shut him in.
Gen 7:17  And the flood was on the earth forty days, and the waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth.

The torrential rains lasted for forty days and nights. The waters rose to great heights and covered even the highest mountains, killing all humans and animals; everything died aside for Noach and the other occupants of the teivah. After the waters raged on the earth another 150 days, YHVH caused the waters to subside. The teivah eventually rested on the Ararat Mountains, (on the 17 th Aviv, the Sages said) and shortly thereafter the mountain peaks came into view. Noach opened the window of the teivah and dispatched birds to see whether it was time to leave the teivah. First he sent a raven, which refused to execute its mission and just circled the ark. He then sent out a dove. On its second attempt the dove went and did not return, signaling that the earth was once again habitable. After one full year in the teivah, the earth had dried.

Gen 7:18  And the waters were mighty and greatly increased on the earth, and the ark moved about on the surface of the waters.
Gen 7:19  And the waters were exceedingly mighty on the earth, and all the high mountains under all the heavens were covered.
Gen 7:20  The waters became mighty, fifteen cubits upward, and the mountains were covered.
Gen 7:21  And all flesh died that moved on the earth – birds and cattle and beasts and every creeping creature that creeps on the earth, and all mankind.
Gen 7:22  All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, all that was on the dry land, died.
Gen 7:23  So He wiped off all that stand, which were on the face of the ground – both man and beast, creeping creature and bird of the heavens. And they were wiped off from the earth. And only Noaḥ was left, and those with him in the ark.
Gen 7:24  And the waters were mighty on the earth, one hundred and fifty days.

Midrash:
One of the first things that strike a person when reading this account of Noach is that YHVH protected the righteous man Noach and his family and destroyed all other life on earth.  Yahshua says the same pattern will be repeated in the last days.

While we are alive on this earth we have this amazing opportunity to come to terms with our spiritual condition and embrace our way of escape from this present world. The teaching of this parasha introduces a key understanding in our preparing for the world to come – “olam ha ba” revealed in the “mikvah”(baptism)

This “mikvah” represents a kind of dying to self and to any kind of notion that we can somehow make it on our own. This ordained “mikvah” or emersion of people is YHVH’s chosen method of bringing about a NEW CREATION -Resurrection through death.

According to the Sages the “Mikvah”, or ritual bath must contain 40 “seah” of rainwater (a seah is a typical halachic measurement that corresponds to approximately 20 litres). The “forty” being a hidden reference to the forty days and nights that rain came upon the earth during the flood.
The sages teach ““What is the meaning of this Mitzvah? What is the Mikvah’s religious purpose? We understand that a ritual bath with 40 measures of water must be a place of transformation and rebirth. This is indeed the case. After all, who goes to a Mikvah? In Temple times, Mikvah immersion was an integral part of regaining ritual purity; especially important for Kohanim, but also, at times, vital for all Jews. Restored purity conferred new status on the individual; he was spiritually refreshed, reborn. Nowadays, the Mikvah is only halakhically required for converts and married women.  When a gentile converts, he or she takes on a new religious identity. A convert, say the Sages, is like a newborn child. What about a woman, whose visits are coordinated with her monthly cycle? Quite simply, a woman’s physical change at that time of the month indicates that her body’s preparation to create life was not actualized. The ritual impurity that results reflects the Torah’s recognition of this loss of potential life. The Mikvah’s 40 seah of water soothe and restore; they help a woman become sensitive to the potent, spiritual force inherent in her body’s ability to create life.
Hasidic men, unwilling to cede the Mikvah experience entirely to women, immerse every erev Shabbat, to elevate themselves in preparation for the seventh day. Ashkenazic men typically limit their Mikvah use to the days immediately prior to Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. In tandem with repentance, the Mikvah helps us refashion our inner selves.” End quote.

We now can understand the importance of this practice by Yochanan the immerser prior to Yashua’s first coming. Will we see an emergence of this practice again in these days?
We see this doctrine or “teachings of immersions” is one of the foundational principles of our faith in Messiah Yahshua. We see that unless this and other foundational principles are established in our lives we will not be able to move on into spiritual maturity.

Heb 6:1  Therefore, having left the word of the beginning of the Messiah, let us go on to perfection,1 not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of belief toward Elohim, Footnote: 1Mt. 5:48.
Heb 6:2  of the teaching of immersions (there are more than one kind of immersion), and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of everlasting judgment.
Heb 6:3  And this we shall do, if Elohim indeed permits.
There is a reference to the events of this parasha in the apostolic writings that gives us important insight into the significance of this event:
1Pe 3:18  Because even Messiah once suffered for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to Elohim,1 having been put to death indeed in flesh but made alive in the Spirit, Footnote: 1Rom. 5:18.
1Pe 3:19  in which also He went and proclaimed unto the spirits in prison,
1Pe 3:20  who were disobedient at one time when the patience of Elohim waited in the days of Noaḥ, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight beings, were saved through water,
1Pe 3:21  which figure now also saves us: immersion – not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Elohim – through the resurrection of יהושע Messiah,
1Pe 3:22  who, having gone into heaven, is at the right hand of Elohim, messengers and authorities and powers having been subjected to Him.

Hegg comments on this scripture and says “But the idea that Yeshua ascended to Hades (apparently during the time His body was in the tomb) is not substantiated by any other Scriptures, and is not taught by the text in Peter’s epistles. Rather, those who were “in prison” describe those who lived in the days of Noach, who were doomed by their unrighteousness and perished in the flood. We should understand Peter’s words to mean that the spirit of Messiah was active in the message of Noach as he called his generation to repentance and submission to YHVH. Even as the Messiah is active today in the whole proclamation of the good news, so He was active in Noach’s day as well. Noach preached the same message as we proclaim today. This is the point of Peter’s message: The good news comes to us with the same message as in Noach’s day: repentance toward YHVH, and faith in YHVH’s promise of redemption (centered in the Promised One).”

When we enter into a mikvah we humble ourselves. We immerse ourselves into a watery grave because our sinfulness has brought death into our lives. We are raised to the hope of new life when we come up out of the mikvah.
We see then through this Torah portion that it is through this watery grave that a new creation was made possible. It is through death and dying to self that we are made into the likeness of our Messiah. The Hebrew word for “likeness” is “damuth” (daleth, mem, vav, tav) The word death in Hebrew is “mut” It is the same word as likeness only with a “daleth” added. We can assume from the construction of this word that death is the doorway (daleth) to bring us into the likeness of Yahshua.
Today religious men still continue to seek transformation through their own faith, grace-preaching, self-effort, religious experiences and so called special prophetic revelation. Genuine transformation can only take place through death to everything that will stand in the way to our genuine and everlasting transformation.
This Torah portion teaches us that it is through death that mankind is saved.

Parashat 1 Portion 4 Ber/Gen 5:1-6:8 Yesh/Is 30:8-15 Matt 23:1-29

The Torah is not our spiritual foundation – Yahshua is! However the Torah instructs us on how to build on the foundation of Messiah –  See footnote on “Yahshua our foundation”

Isa 30:8  And go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it on a scroll, that it is for a latter day, a witness forever:
Isa 30:9  that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who refuse to hear the Torah of יהוה,
Isa 30:10  who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right. Speak to us what is smooth, prophesy deceits.
Isa 30:11  “Turn aside from the way, swerve from the path, cause the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl to cease from before us.”
Isa 30:12  Therefore thus said the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, “Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on them,
Isa 30:13  therefore this crookedness is to you like a breach ready to fall, a bulge in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, swiftly.”
Isa 30:14  And He shall break it like the breaking of the potter’s vessel, which is broken in pieces, without sparing, so that there is not found among its fragments a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to take water from the cistern.
Isa 30:15  For thus said the Master יהוה (Adonai YHVH), the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, “In returning and rest you are saved, in stillness and trust is your strength.” But you would not,

This week’s Torah portion is about a people who have recognized their present state and are trusting YHVH to transform their present state into the image of His Son Yahshua.
If we don’t have a revelation of who we truly are, we will not be able to receive the revelation of who we were meant to become.

Isa 40:25  “And to whom then do you liken Me, or to whom am I compared?” says the Set-apart One.
Isa 40:26  Lift up your eyes on high and see. Who has created these? He who is bringing out their host by number, He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power – not one is missing.

Psa 8:3  For I see Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have established.
Psa 8:4  What is man that You remember him? And the son of man that You visit him?
Psa 8:5  Yet You have made him a little less than Elohim, And have crowned him with esteem and splendour.
Psa 8:6  You made him rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all under his feet,

Our Torah Portion:

Gen 5:1  This is the book of the genealogy of Aḏam. In the day that Elohim created man, He made him in the likeness of Elohim.
Gen 5:2  Male and female He created them, and He blessed them, and called their name ‘Aḏam’ in the day they were created.
Gen 5:3  And Aḏam lived one hundred and thirty years, and brought forth a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Shĕth.
From this genealogy YHVH would preserve a very very small remnant to be the Bride of Messiah.

Adam – (S121&S120) – Man – can be man or woman.

 “Sheth” (S8352 & 7896) – “Shyth” – to place or appoint.

If we combine the meaning of Adam and Sheth – we can get “man is appointed”

Gen 5:4  And after he brought forth Shĕth, the days of Aḏam were eight hundred years. And he brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:5  So all the days that Aḏam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
Gen 5:6  And Shĕth lived one hundred and five years, and brought forth Enosh.

“Enosh” (S583&582&S605) – Mortal man - desperate, incurable, desperately wicked – sorrowful or melancholic.

One of the most common titles for Yashua was the “Son of Adam”. Yahshua is referred to as the Son of Man/Adam 88 times in the Apostolic scriptures and only 47 times as the Son of Elohim.
Yahshua is also referred to as the second man and the last Adam 1 Cor 15:45-48

We could then say that the names in this Parasha  also tell us a story about Messiah.

“The Son of Man is appointed to sorrow”  This could also imply that the Son of Man was appointed to bear on himself  the wickedness of men.”  See also Is/Yes 53:3

Gen 5:7  And after he brought forth Enosh, Shĕth lived eight hundred and seven years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:8  So all the days of Shĕth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.
Gen 5:9  And Enosh lived ninety years, and brought forth Qĕynan.

“Qeynan” (S7018 & S7064 & S7077) – possession – chamber or dwelling – to make a nest.

“Another possibility (and favored by us here at Abarim Publications) is that the name Kenan comes from the verb קין (qin), meaning to chant a dirge (Amos 8:10). This verb comes from the noun קינה (qina), meaning lamentation, or a sad poem which is sung (Jeremiah 7:19, Ezekiel 2:10). A strong clue that the name Kenan (with the troublesome double nun) indeed comes from this word group lies in the existence of a verb that HAW Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament gracefully skips but which is well featured in BDB Theological Dictionary. It's the verb קונן (qwnn), meaning to chant a dirge (Ezekiel 27:32, 1 Samuel 1:17) – see also S7015&6969
That way the name Kenan means Lamenter.
However, through the apparently related name Kenite, Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names notes a relation to the verb קנן (qinnen), meaning to make a nest (Isaiah 34:15). That way the name Kenan may mean Nester. Perhaps the cry of the eagle reminded the Hebrews of lamenting. Perhaps the two have nothing to do with each other.
Perhaps thinking of the nest-making verb, NOBSE Study Bible Name List reads Fixed for both Cainan and Kenan – end quote

When man realized his state, he realized his only hope was to become YHVH’s possession again. Man needed YHVH to come and take residence within his life. Man’s heart or inner chamber needed to be ruled by the Ruach of YHVH and nourished by His Torah.

The Ruach of YHVH “nested” in Yahshua – he only did what his Father showed him.

Something was wrong with man and could only be repaired if YHVH could enter into man’s life and restore him again.

So far we havethrough the meaning of the names as in order, the sentece:  “Man was placed in a desperate situation – he needed YHVH to come and “nest” in his heart..

Gen 5:10  And after he brought forth Qĕynan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:11  So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died.
Gen 5:12  And Qĕynan lived seventy years, and brought forth Mahalal’ĕl.

Mahal-El(S4111&) – Praise of El – Yahshua was the praise  of Elohim. Yahshua was our only hope of becoming reconciled to YHVH so that we could bring YHVH the praise He deserved.

Jer 17:14  Heal me, O יהוה, so that I am healed. Save me, so that I am saved, for You are my praise.

Gen 5:13  After he brought forth Mahalal’ĕl, Qĕynan lived eight hundred and forty years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:14  So all the days of Qĕynan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.
Gen 5:15  And Mahalal’ĕl lived sixty-five years, and brought forth Yereḏ.

“Yared/Yered” (S3382) to go downward.

Gen 5:16  And after he brought forth Yereḏ, Mahalal’ĕl lived eight hundred and thirty years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:17  So all the days of Mahalal’ĕl were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.
Gen 5:18  And Yereḏ lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and brought forth Ḥanoḵ.

“Chanok” S2585 – means dedicated.

Yahshua dedicated himself to deliver humanity from their frightful predicament.

Gen 5:19  And after he brought forth Ḥanoḵ, Yereḏ lived eight hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:20  So all the days of Yereḏ were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.
Gen 5:21  And Ḥanoḵ lived sixty-five years, and brought forth Methushelaḥ.

Methushelach S4968 – “man of the dart” or literally “dying he shall send”
“Methuselah (Hebrew: מְתוּשֶׁלַח / מְתוּשָׁלַח, Modern Metušélaħ / MetušálaħTiberian Məṯûšélaḥ / Məṯûšālaḥ ; "Man of the dart/spear", or alternatively "his death shall bring judgment") is the man reported to have lived the longest at the age of 969 in the Hebrew Bible. Extra-biblical tradition maintains that he died on the 11th of Cheshvan of the year 1656AM (Anno Mundi, after Creation), seven days before the beginning of the Great Flood.”

Gen 5:22  And after he brought forth Methushelaḥ, Ḥanoḵ walked with Elohim three hundred years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:23  So all the days of Ḥanoḵ were three hundred and sixty-five years.
Gen 5:24  And Ḥanoḵ walked with Elohim. Then he was no more, for Elohim took him.
Gen 5:25  And Methushelaḥ lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and brought forth Lemeḵ.

“Lamech” S3929 – Morfix – to become impoverished.

Etymology and meaning of the name Lamech
The word למך (lmk) does not occur in Hebrew, so we are left to guess at its meaning. BDB remains silent on the subject, but both Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names and NOBSE Study Bible Name List suggest relations to a Semitic root that doesn't occur in the Biblical narrative but which also exists in Arabic, meaning strong and robust young man. Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names reads Powerful
To a creative audience, the name Lamech may also be seen as constructed of the particle ל (le), meaning to or towards:

מוך
The verb מוך (muk) is used to denote impoverished Israelites and occurs twice: Leviticus 25:47 and 27:8.
Gen 5:26  And after he brought forth Lemeḵ, Methushelaḥ lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:27  So all the days of Methushelaḥ were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.
Gen 5:28  And Lemeḵ lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and brought forth a son,
Gen 5:29  and called his name Noaḥ, saying, “This one does comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which יהוה has cursed.”

“Noach” S5146 – Rest or comfort.

Gen 5:30  And after he brought forth Noaḥ, Lemeḵ lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and brought forth sons and daughters.
Gen 5:31  So all the days of Lemeḵ were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.
Gen 5:32  And Noaḥ was five hundred years old, and Noaḥ brought forth Shĕm, Ḥam, and Yepheth.

So now we can read the sentence coming out of the meaning of all these names of the genealogy of ADAM: Man (Adam) is appointed to sorrow - man opened his heart to the praise of Elohim who came down to earth and dedicated himself to YHVH to the point of being willing to lay down his life for an impoverished people and so YHVH gave men rest.

“The Elohim-Man is appointed, a mortal man of sorrow is born! The Esteem of YHVH shall come down from heaven and teach men that by means of His death He shall comfort those who mourn.”

These words could also apply to Yahshua. The implications of this hidden message could be enormous. Perhaps it is only the true believers and the bride of Messiah that can identify with this message and their lives are a living testimony of the truth of this hidden message in the genealogy of Adam.

This message also ties in with the Messiah’s first sermon recorded in the book of Mattityahu/Matthew – see footnote on Yahshua’s sermons and the Torah.

Gen 6:1  And it came to be, when men began to increase on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them,
Gen 6:2  that the sons of Elohim saw the daughters of men, that they were good. And they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.
Gen 6:3  And יהוה said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever in his going astray. He is flesh, and his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
Gen 6:4  The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of Elohim came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, the men of name.
Gen 6:5  And יהוה saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Gen 6:6  And יהוה was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
Gen 6:7  And יהוה said, “I am going to wipe off man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping creature and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
Gen 6:8  But Noaḥ found favour in the eyes of יהוה.

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”
(Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Ameyn

Some extra notes: Yahshua is our foundation
Why are some believers in Jesus or Yahshua re-examining their spiritual foundations in these days?
There are many believers around the world who believe that Yahshua has been misrepresented in the Church for centuries. This was a problem even the earliest believers were experiencing. The apostle Paul addresses this issue in his letter to the Corinthians.
2Co 11:3  But I am afraid, lest, as the serpent deceived Ḥawwah(Eve) by his trickery, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah.
2Co 11:4  For, indeed, if he who is coming proclaims another Yahshua יהושע,1 whom we have not proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different Good News which you have not accepted, you put up with it well enough!

The introduction of the Trinitarian doctrine by the early church was difficult to explain and this is still the case today. People are told it is a deep kind of mystery that you must accept by faith. Ask you average Christian to explain how there are three Gods when actually there is only one. Christians proudly call themselves Monotheists when in actual fact they are Polytheists – having more than one God.

Mat 7:21  “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens.
Mat 7:22  “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’
Mat 7:23  “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’1 Footnote: 1 See v. 15.
Mat 7:24  “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does them, shall be like a wise man who built his house on the rock,
Mat 7:25  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Mat 7:26  “And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not do them,1 shall be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand, Footnote: 1John 3:36.
Mat 7:27  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.”

Building on a faulty perception of Messiah can cause great loss of reward in our lives.

1Co 3:10  According to the favour of Elohim which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But each one should look how he builds on it.
1Co 3:11  For no one is able to lay any other foundation except that which is laid, which is יהושע (Yahushua/Yahshua/Yehoshua/Yeshua) Messiah.
1Co 3:12  And if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
1Co 3:13  each one’s work shall be revealed, for the day shall show it up, because it is revealed by fire. And the fire shall prove the work of each one, what sort it is.
1Co 3:14  If anyone’s work remains, which he has built on, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15  If anyone’s work is burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

Pro 10:25  As the whirlwind passes by, The wrong one is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation.

The Torah is not our spiritual foundation – Yahshua is! However the Torah instructs us on how to build on the foundation of Messiah –

Rom 10:4  For Messiah is the goal1 of the ‘Torah unto righteousness’ to everyone who believes. Footnote: 1Or end purpose; not termination.

Who then is Yahshua?
·         He is the only one who can acceptably mediate between man and YHVH (1Ti 2:5  For there is one Elohim,[1] and one Mediator between Elohim and men, the Man Messiah יהושע, Foornote: 11 Cor. 8:6, Eph. 4:6, Mk. 12:29-34).
·         YHVH has given Yahshua all authority and power in heaven and on earth – Mat 28:18 “And יהושע came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Also Act 2:36 “Therefore let all the house of Yisra’ĕl know for certain that Elohim has made this Yahshua, whom you impaled, both Master and Messiah.”
·         The fullness of YHVH dwells in Yahshua – Col 2:9 Because in Him dwells all the completeness of the Mightiness bodily,...
·         YHVH, the Father is the only true Elohim and Yahshua is His Son (Yochanan/Joh 17:3:“And this is everlasting life, that they should know You, the only true Elohim, and Yahshua Messiah whom You have sent.” 1Co 8:6 “for us there is one Elohim, the Father, from whom all came and for whom we live, and one Master Yahshua Messiah, through whom all came and through whom we live.” Col 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the Name of the Master Yahshua, giving thanks to Elohim the Father through Him. Joh 20:17  יהושע said to her, “Do not hold on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My Elohim and your Elohim.’ ” Yahshua is not the FATHER.  YHVH is the Father. Yahshua is the Moshiach (Anointed one) that the Father had in plan and mind and in his bosom from the foundation of the earth to be born at the appointed time by a woman under Torah. Gal 4:4  “But when the completion of the time came, Elohim sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under Torah, Gal 4:5  to redeem those who were under Torah, in order to receive the adoption as sons”. Joh 10:29  “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all. And no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. Joh 10:30  “I and My Father are one.”1 Footnote: 1See 17:11, 17:21-23. Does that mean they are the same being? Yahshua said something similar in Jn.17:22, “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:” Here again, Yahshua says he and the Father are one. But he also prays that his followers will be one in the same sense that he and Yahweh are one. That is a oneness of mind, purpose, and will, not a oneness of being. And it certainly does not mean there are two Yahweh’s, It also doesn’t mean that Yahshua is in fact YHVH Himself.  Joh 14:28  “You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you did love Me, you would have rejoiced that I said, ‘I am going to the
Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.  YHVH is echad (ONE) and He is greater than Yahshua who is the Anointed One, the Son who was in the plan and purpose of YHVH before the foundation of the earth
·         Yahshua is seated at the right hand side of YHVH and is waiting for his Father YHVH’s command to return to earth - Heb 10:12  But He, having offered one slaughter offering for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of Elohim, Heb 10:13  waiting from that time onward until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet. Mat 24:36  “But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers of the heavens, but My Father only.1 Footnote:1Mk. 13:32.)

Yahshua’s sermons in the book of Mattityahu/Matthew and how they relate to the books of the Torah.
Five Major Discourses or Sermons in Matthew

  1. The Sermon on the Mount (5:1‑7:28) – “Ha drasha al ha ar”
Yahshua’s first sermon ties in with the theme of our Torah portion as well as the theme of the first book of the Torah – Bereshiet.

Mat 5:3  “Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the reign of the heavens.
Mat 5:4  “Blessed are those who mourn, because they shall be comforted.
Mat 5:5  “Blessed are the meek, because they shall inherit the earth.1 Footnote: 1Ps. 37:9, 11, 22, 29, 34.
Mat 5:6  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,1 because they shall be filled. Footnote: 1Isa. 55:1-2, Mt. 4:4, John 6:48-51.
Mat 5:7  “Blessed are the compassionate, because they shall obtain compassion.

  1. The Messianic family tree (10:1‑42)
Note the similarities between Shemot/Exodus and the opening verses of Yahshua’s second drasha
Remember the word “Shemot” means “names.”
The same two words are used in the opening chapter of Exodus – ve ele shemot – “these are the names”
Exo 1:1  And these are the names….
Mat 10:2 – in Hebrew ואלה שמות
 Mat 10:2  And these are the names of the twelve emissaries: first, Shimʽon, who is called Kĕpha, and Andri his brother; Yaʽaqoḇ the son of Zaḇdai, and Yoḥanan his brother;

  1. The Parable/Priestly Discourse (13:1‑53)
Vayikra/Leviticus – is about the calling of a set apart priesthood – a people who hear the call of YHVH to dedicate themselves to Him and to His Service – “va yikra means and He called” Yahshua speaks in parables because only those who are called to be set apart priesthood will understand the parables Yahshua taught.
Mat 13:10  And the taught ones came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
Mat 13:11  And He answering, said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the secrets of the reign of the heavens, but to them it has not been given.
Mat 13:12  “For whoever possesses, to him more shall be given, and he shall have overflowingly;  but whoever does not possess, even what he possesses shall be taken away from him.
Mat 13:13  “Because of this I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
Mat 13:14  “And in them the prophecy of Yeshayahu is completely filled, which says, ‘Hearing you shall hear and by no means understand, and seeing you shall see and by no means perceive,
Mat 13:15  for the heart of this people has become thickened, and their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their heart, and turn back, and I heal them.’
Mat 13:16  “And blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear,
Mat 13:17  for truly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous ones longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

  1. The Calling and Counting of the Kehelah/Congretation of YHVH (17:22‑18:35)
Mat 17:23  and they shall kill Him, and the third day He shall be raised up.” And they were deeply grieved.
Mat 17:24  And when they came into Kephar Naḥum, those who received the tax came to Kĕpha and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the tax?”
Mat 17:25  He said, “Yea.” And when he came into the house, יהושע spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Shimʽon? From whom do the sovereigns of the earth take toll or tax, from their own sons or from the strangers?”
Mat 17:26  Kĕpha then said to Him, “From the strangers.” יהושע said to him, “Then the sons are exempt.
Mat 17:27  “But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you shall find a piece of money. Take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

This is interesting Yahshua is talking about his death and then goes onto paying the temple tax – is there a connection.

The book of Bamidbar is about been numbering the redeemed of Yisrael in the wilderness. This was done by paying a tax – a beka– those who did so were numbered amongst the redeemed.
The Hebrew word for numbered is “Gulguletam” where we get the word “Golgatha”

Num 1:2  “Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head,

Translation – Lift up the head of the sons of Yisrael – the families of their father’s houses – numbering their names each male by his skull.

The word “gulgolet” where the name Golgotha comes from was a strange way to express the counting of people…

Mat 18:11  “For the Son of Aḏam has come to save what was lost.
Mat 22:14  “For many are called, but few are chosen.”1 Footnote:1See 20:16.

  1. The Apocalyptic Discourse (24:1‑25:46)
The only way we will understand and survive the last days is if we have internalized the Torah.
The book of Devarim/Deuteronomy – Words – means words or things – this book was the entire Torah retold in Moshe’s life and words. He was able to internalize and reproduce the Torah in his own words.
Mat 24:3  And as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the taught ones came to Him separately, saying, “Say to us, when shall this be, and what is the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
Mat 24:4  And יהושע answering, said to them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray.

Mat 24:5  “For many shall come in My Name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah,’(anointed one) and they shall lead many astray.
