Parashat 2 – (Noach)- Portion 7 – Ber/Gen 8:15- 9:17 Yesh/Is 42:6-21 2Tim 2:8-19

Bar’chu et YHVH ha-m’vorach, Baruch YHVH ha-m’vorach l’O’lam va-ed! Baruch ata YHVH
Eloheinu melech ha-olam asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’na-tan lanu eht Torah-to.  Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Amein.

Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Amein.

Isa 42:18  “Hear, you deaf! And look, you blind, and see. Isa 42:19  “Who is blind but My servant, or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is at peace, and blind as servant of יהוה? Isa 42:20  “You see much, but do not guard; ears are open, but do not hear.” Isa 42:21  It has delighted יהוה, for the sake of His righteousness, to make the Torah great and esteemed. Isa 42:22  But this is a people robbed and plundered, all of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prison houses. They have become a prey, with no one to deliver – for plunder, and no one to say, “Restore!” (Heb – ‘’chashuv’’- turn back, die to your old ways and return to my ways)Isa 42:23  Who among you gives ear to this, pays attention and hears for the time to come? Isa 42:24  Who gave Ya‛aqoḇ for plunder, and Yisra’ěl to the robbers? Was it not יהוה, He against whom we sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, and they did not obey His Torah! Isa 42:25  So He has poured on him His burning displeasure and the strength of battle, and it set him on fire all around, yet he did not understand. And it burned against him, yet he did not take it to heart!

The introductory words to our weekly portion are appropriate and repeated –

צא מן התבה – ‘’exit from the ark…’’ same Hebrew command Yahshua uses in Jn 11:43 ‘’kum tze’’to cause Lazarus to come forth from his grave.

Gen 8:15  And Elohim spoke to Noaḥ, saying, Gen 8:16  “Go (Heb ‘’tze’’) out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. Gen 8:17  “Bring out (Heb ‘’ho tze’’) with you every life form of all flesh that is with you: of birds, of cattle and all creeping(Heb – moving of all animals) creatures – the creeping creatures on the earth. And let them teem on the earth, and bear and increase on the earth.” (be fruitful used 3 times in this portion)Gen 8:18  So Noaḥ went out,(Heb ‘’va yatze’’) and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him, Gen 8:19  every beast, every creeping creature, and every bird, whatever creeps on the earth, according to their kinds, went out (Heb ‘’va yatzu’’)of the ark.

Note the repeated use and emphasis of the Hebrew root word ‘’yatze’’

In vs 17 this word appears in its hyphil form ie ‘’cause to come forth’’ this word is deliberately misspelled in the Torah scroll. Why? Our attention is been drawn to “separation’’ Perhaps drawing our attention to the fact that not all food is clean. This would also be the first-time man began to eat meat. YHVH would never contradict Himself regarding ‘’kashrut’’

ואשמע קול אחר מן־השמים אמר צאו ממנה עמי

Rev 18:4  And I heard another voice from the heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people…   Yahshua uses the same root word ‘’tza’’ when casting out demons – Mark 1:25, 9:25

We unknowingly use the same word when chasing away an irritating animal or insect – ‘’tza tza’’

YHVH's Covenant with Noach

Gen 8:20  And Noaḥ built a slaughter-place(Heb – ‘’mizbeach’’ first appearance of this word) to יהוה, and took of every clean beast and of every clean bird, and offered ascending offerings on the slaughter-place. Gen 8:21  And יהוה smelled a soothing fragrance, and יהוה said in His heart, “Never again shall I curse the ground because of man, although the inclination (yetzer) of man’s heart is evil from his youth, and never again strike all living creatures, as I have done, (‘’yeter’’used before the flood 6:5 and after vs 21)

Psa 51:5  See, I was brought forth in crookedness, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Ecc 9:3  This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: there is one event to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are filled with evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live, and then – to the dead!

Jer 17:9  “The heart is crookeda above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it? Footnote: a Jer_7:24, Jer_16:12, Jer_18:12, Jer_23:17

Job 15:14  What is man, that he should be clean? And one born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

Job 15:15  Look, He puts no trust in His set-apart ones, and the heavens are not clean in His eyes,

Psa 143:2  And do not enter into right-ruling with Your servant, For before You no one living is in the right.

Rom 3:10  As it has been written, “There is none righteous, no, not one! Rom 3:11  “There is no one who is understanding, there is none who is seeking Elohim. Rom 3:12  “They all have turned aside, they have together become worthless. There is none who does good, no, not one.” Psa_14:1-3, Psa_53:1-4. Rom 3:13  “Their throat is an open tomb, with their tongues they have deceived,” Psa_5:9 “The poison of adders is under their lips,” Psa_140:3. Rom 3:14  “Whose mouth is filled with cursing and bitterness.” Psa_10:7. Rom 3:15  “Their feet are swift to shed blood, Pro_1:16. Rom 3:16  ruin and wretchedness are in their ways, Rom 3:17  and the way of peace they have not known.” Isa_59:7. Rom 3:18  “There is no fear of Elohim before their eyes.” Psa_36:1

Isa 64:6  And all of us have become as one unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as soiled rags. (soiled menstrual cloth)And all of us fade like a leaf, and our crookednesses, like the wind, have taken us away.

What then is the remedy?

Isa 53:1  Who has believed our report? And to whom was the arm of יהוה revealed? Isa 53:2  For He grew up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or splendour that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should desire Him – Isa 53:3  despised and rejected by men, a man of pains and knowing sickness. And as one from whom the face is hidden, being despised, and we did not consider Him. Isa 53:4  Truly, He has borne our sicknesses and carried our pains. Yet we reckoned Him smitten·, stricken by Elohim, and afflicted. Isa 53:5  But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our crookednesses. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isa 53:6  We all, like sheep, went astray, each one of us has turned to his own way. And יהוה has laid on Him the crookedness of us all. Isa 53:7  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, but He did not open His mouth. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, but He did not open His mouth. Isa 53:8  He was taken from prison and from judgment. And as for His generation, who considered that He shall be cut off from the land of the living? For the transgression of My people He was stricken. Isa 53:9  And He was appointed a burial-site with the wrong, and with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was deceit in His mouth.a Footnote: a 1Pe_2:22Isa 53:10  But יהוה was pleased to crush Him, He laid sickness on Him, that when He made Himself an offering for guilt, He would see a seed, He would prolong His days and the pleasure of יהוה prosper in His hand. Isa 53:11  He would see the result of the suffering of His life and be satisfied. Through His knowledge My righteous Servant makes many righteous, and He bears their crookednesses. Isa 53:12  Therefore I give Him a portion among the great, and He divides the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His being unto death, and He was counted with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

1Pe 2:25  For you were like sheep going astray, Isa_53:6 but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your beings.

2Co 5:21  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of Elohim. (note ‘’becoming’’)

Despite our condition the scripture tell us:

Rom 8:1  There is, then, now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah יהושע, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Rom 8:3  For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim, having sent His own Son in the likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh, Rom 8:4  so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Gen 8:22  as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

Gen 9:1  And Elohim blessed Noaḥ and his sons, and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase, and fill the earth. Gen 9:2  “And the fear of you and the dread of you is on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the heavens, on all that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish of the sea – into your hand they have been given. Gen 9:3  “Every creeping creature(Heb – moving animal) that lives is food for you. I have given you all, as I gave the green plants.

This verse has created some confusion and controversy regarding the laws of ‘’kashrut’’ however, YHVH and His Torah would not contradict themselves. The term ‘’every’’ is used as a generalization of moving animals as it is the first time YHVH gives man permission to eat meat.

Gen 9:4  “But do not eat flesh with its life, its blood. Gen 9:5  “But only your blood for your lives I require, from the hand of every beast I require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I require the life of man. Gen 9:6  “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood is shed, for in the image of Elohim has He made man.

From these verses the rabbis invented the seven ‘’Noachide laws’’ between 200 and 500 CE. Several Messianic believers reject this ruling of the rabbis.

"The Seven Laws of Noah include prohibitions against worshipping idols, cursing God, murder, adultery and sexual immorality, theft, eating flesh torn from a living animal, as well as the obligation to establish courts of justice.’’

Num 15:14  And when a stranger sojourns with you, or whoever is among you throughout your generations, and would make an offering made by fire, a sweet fragrance to יהוה, as you do, so he does. Num 15:15  One law is for you of the assembly and for the stranger who sojourns with you – a law forever throughout your generations. As you are, so is the stranger before יהוהNum 15:16  One Torah and one right-ruling is for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you.’ ”

Act 15:19  “Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the nations who are turning to Elohim,

Act 15:20  but that we write to them to abstain from the defilements of idols,a and from whoring,b and from what is strangled,c and from blood.d Footnotes: a Exo_22:20, Lev_17:7, Deu_32:17, Deu_32:21, 1Co_10:14, 1Co_10:20-21. b Num_25:1-3, Lev_17:7. c Gen_9:4, Eze_33:25 (Strangled - One way of eating meat with blood) Pro_21:25. d Lev_17:10-14Act 15:21  “For from ancient generations Mosheh has, in every city, those proclaiming him – being read in the congregations every Sabbath.”

Torah portion proceed

Gen 9:7  “As for you, be fruitful and increase, bring forth teemingly in the earth and increase in it.” Gen 9:8  And Elohim spoke to Noaḥ and to his sons with him, saying, Gen 9:9  “And I, see, I establish My covenant with you and with your seed after you, Gen 9:10  and with every living being that is with you: of the birds, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. Gen 9:11  “And I shall establish My covenant with you, and never again is all flesh cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again is there a flood to destroy the earth.” Gen 9:12  And Elohim said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living being that is with you, for all generations to come: Gen 9:13  “I shall set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. Gen 9:14  “And it shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud, Gen 9:15  and I shall remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living being of all flesh, and never again let the waters become a flood to destroy all flesh. Gen 9:16  “And the rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I shall see it, to remember the everlasting covenant between Elohim and every living being of all flesh that is on the earth.” Gen 9:17  And Elohim said to Noaḥ, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

1Pe 3:19  (Yahshua) went and proclaimed unto the spirits in prison, 1Pe 3:20  who were disobedient at one time when the patience of Elohim waited in the days of Noaḥ, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight beings, were saved through water, 1Pe 3:21  which figure now also saves us: immersion – not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Elohim – through the resurrection of יהושע Messiah,
