Parashat 4 Portion 15 Vayira – and He appeared – Ber/Gen 18:1-33 Yesh/Is 33:17-34:12 Luke 8:40-56

Bar’chu et YHVH ha-m’vorach, Baruch YHVH ha-m’vorach l’O’lam va-ed! Baruch ata YHVH
Eloheinu melech ha-olam asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim, v’na-tan lanu eht Torah-to.
Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Bless YHVH the blessed One; Blessed is YHVH, the blessed One for all eternity. Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Gen 18:1  And יהוה appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamrĕ, while he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.
“Va Yerah” is a Niphal verb ie a passive verb, meaning that YHVH allowed Himself to be seen by Avraham.

Heb 1:1  Elohim, having of old spoken in many portions and many ways to the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2  has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all, through whom also He made the ages,a Footnote: aSee Joh_1:3
Heb 1:3  who being the brightness of the esteem and the exact representation of His substance, and sustaining all by the word of His power, having made a cleansing of our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand Psa_110:1 of the Greatness on high,
Heb 1:4  having become so much better than the messengers, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than them.
Heb 1:13  And to which of the messengers did He ever say, “Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”? Psa_110:1
Heb 1:14  Are they not all serving spirits sent out to attend those who are about to inherit deliverance?

Gen 18:2  So he lifted his eyes and looked, and saw three men standing opposite him. And when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground,
Gen 18:3  and said, “יהוה, if I have now found favour in Your eyes, please do not pass Your servant by.
Gen 18:4  “Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
Gen 18:5  “And let me bring a piece of bread and refresh your hearts, and then go on, for this is why you have come to your servant.” And they said, “Do as you have said.”
Gen 18:6  So Aḇraham ran into the tent to Sarah and said, “Hurry, make ready three measures of fine flour, knead it and make cakes.”
Gen 18:7  And Aḇraham ran to the herd, took a tender and good calf, gave it to a young man, and he hurried to prepare it.
Gen 18:8  And he took curds and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set it before them, and he stood by them under the tree as they ate. (Ex 23:19)
Gen 18:9  And they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “See, in the tent.”
ט  וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו, אַיֵּה שָׂרָה אִשְׁתֶּךָ; וַיֹּאמֶר, הִנֵּה בָאֹהֶל.
Over the word “elaiv” are three “yuds’ over the letter “aleph”; “yud” and “vav” these three letters spell “eiyav” meaning “where is he.” Is this possibly a veiled question as to the future coming of Messiah?
Gen 18:10  And He said, “I shall certainly return to you according to the time of life, and see, Sarah your wife is to have a son!” And Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.
Gen 18:11  Now Aḇraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age, and Sarah was past the way of women.
Gen 18:12  And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my master being old too?” (meaning sexual pleasure)
Gen 18:13  And יהוה said to Aḇraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I truly have a child, since I am old?’
Gen 18:14  “Is any matter too hard for יהוה? At the appointed time I am going to return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah is to have a son.”
Gen 18:15  But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!”
Gen 18:16  And the men rose up from there and looked toward Seḏom, and Aḇraham went with them to send them away.
Gen 18:17  And יהוה said, “Shall I hide from Aḇraham what I am doing,
Gen 18:18  since Aḇraham is certainly going to become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Gen 18:19  “For I have known him, so that he commands his children and his household after him, to guard the way of יהוה, to do righteousness and right-ruling, so that יהוה brings to Aḇraham what He has spoken to him.”
Gen 18:20  And יהוה said, “Because the outcry against Seḏom and Amorah is great, and because their sin is very heavy,
Gen 18:21  “I am going down now to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me, and if not, I know.”
Gen 18:22  So the men turned away from there and went toward Seḏom, but יהוה still stood before Aḇraham.
Gen 18:23  And Aḇraham drew near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wrong?
Gen 18:24  “Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city, would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it?
Gen 18:25  “Far be it from You to act in this way, to slay the righteous with the wrong, so that the righteous should be as the wrong. Far be it from You! Does the Judge of all the earth not do right?”
Gen 18:26  And יהוה said, “If I find in Seḏom fifty righteous within the city, then I shall spare all the place for their sakes.”
Gen 18:27  And Aḇraham answered and said, “Look, please, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to יהוה,
Gen 18:28  “Suppose there are five less than the fifty righteous, would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” And He said, “If I find there forty-five, I do not destroy it.”
Gen 18:29  And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there are found forty?” And He said, “I would not do it for the sake of forty.”
Gen 18:30  And he said, “Let not יהוה be displeased, and let me speak: Suppose there are found thirty?” And He said, “I would not do it if I find thirty there.”
Gen 18:31  And he said, “Look, please, I have taken it upon myself to speak to יהוה: Suppose there are found twenty?” And He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”
Gen 18:32  And he said, “Let not יהוה be displeased, and let me speak only this time: Suppose there are found ten?” And He said, “I would not destroy it for the sake of ten.”
Gen 18:33  Then יהוה went away as soon as He had ended speaking to Aḇraham. And Aḇraham returned to his place.

Eze 16:45  “You are your mother’s daughter, who despises her husband and her children. And you are the sister of your sisters, who despised their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Ḥittite and your father an Amorite. (Deut 26:5)
Eze 16:46  “And your elder sister is Shomeron, she and her daughters, who is dwelling to the north of you. And your younger sister, who is dwelling to the south of you, is Seḏom and her daughters.
Eze 16:47  “And have you not walked in their ways and did according to their abominations? But in all your ways you soon became more corrupt than they.
Eze 16:48  “As I live,” declares the Master יהוה, “neither your sister Seḏom nor her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done.
Eze 16:49  “See, this was the crookedness of your sister Seḏom: She and her daughter had pride, sufficiency of bread, and unconcerned ease. And she did not help the poor and needy.

2Pe 2:4  For if Elohim did not spare the messengers who sinned, but sent them to Tartaros,[b] and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be kept for judgment, Footnote: bPossibly from Hebrew: Taḥti - See Explanatory notes - She’ol. Rev 9:1-7)
2Pe 2:5  and did not spare the world of old, but preserved Noaḥ, a proclaimer of righteousness, and seven others, bringing in the flood on the world of the wicked,
2Pe 2:6  and having reduced to ashes the cities of Seḏom and Amorah condemned them to destruction – having made them an example to those who afterward would live wickedly,
2Pe 2:7  and rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the indecent behaviour of the lawless[c] Footnote: cThe Greek word here, and in 2Pe_3:17, is athesmos (not the usual one, anomos) but it also means “lawless.”
2Pe 2:8  (for day after day that righteous man, dwelling among them, tortured his righteous being by seeing and hearing their lawless works),
2Pe 2:9  then יהוה knows how to rescue the reverent ones from trial and to keep the unrighteous unto the day of judgment, to be punished,
2Pe 2:10  and most of all those walking after the flesh in filthy lust and despising authority – bold, headstrong, speaking evil of esteemed ones,
2Pe 2:11  whereas messengers who are greater in strength and power do not bring a slanderous accusation against them before the Master.

Joh 17:1  יהושע said these words, and lifted up His eyes to the heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Esteem Your Son, so that Your Son also might esteem You,
Joh 17:2  as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give everlasting life to all whom You have given Him.
Joh 17:3  “And this is everlasting life, that they should know You, the only true Elohim, and יהושע Messiah whom You have sent.
Joh 17:4  “I have esteemed You on the earth, having accomplished the work You have given Me that I should do.
Joh 17:5  “And now, esteem Me with Yourself, Father, with the esteem which I had with You before the world was. (Gk S1511 ‘’einai’’ means ‘’to be’’ not ‘’was’’ and is a PRESENT TENSE verb and not a past tense verb as used here in in text)
Joh 17:6  “I have revealed Your Name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have guarded Your Word.[a] Footnote: aAlso see Psa_138:2
Joh 17:7  “Now they have come to know that all You gave to Me, is from You.
Joh 17:8  “Because the Words which You gave to Me, I have given to them. And they have received them, and have truly known that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me.
Joh 17:14  “I have given them Your Word, and the world hated them because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
Joh 17:15  “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the wicked one
Joh 17:16  “They are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
Joh 17:17  “Set them apart in Your truth – Your Word is truth.[c] Footnote: cSee Psa_119:142, Psa_119:151, Psa_119:160
Joh 17:18  “As You sent Me into the world, I also sent them into the world.
Joh 17:19  “And for them I set Myself apart, so that they too might be set apart in truth.
Joh 17:20  “And I do not pray for these alone, but also for those believing in Me through their word,
Joh 17:21  so that they all might be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, so that they too might be one in Us, so that the world might believe that You have sent Me.
Joh 17:22  “And the esteem which You gave Me I have given them, so that they might be one as We are one,
Joh 17:23  “I in them, and You in Me, so that they might be perfected into one, so that the world knows that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

1Co 11:2  And I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in every way and keep the traditions as I delivered them to you.
1Co 11:3  And I wish you to know that the head of every man is the Messiah,[a] and the head of woman is the man,[b] and the head of Messiah is Elohim.[c] Footnotes: a Eph_1:22, Eph_4:15, Eph_5:23. b Gen_3:16. c 1Co_3:23, Joh_14:28
1Co 11:4  Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, brings shame to his Head.
1Co 11:5  And every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered brings shame to her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.
1Co 11:6  For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.[d] Footnote: d Num_5:18
1Co 11:7  For a man indeed should not cover his head, since he is the likeness and esteem of Elohim, but woman is the esteem of man.
1Co 11:8  For man is not from woman, but woman from man.
1Co 11:9  For man also was not created for the woman, but woman for the man.
1Co 11:10  Because of this the woman ought to have authority[e] on her head, because of the messengers. Footnote: eSome say “a symbol of authority.”
1Co 11:11  However, man is not independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Master.
1Co 11:12  For as the woman was from the man, even so the man also is through the woman. But all are from Elohim.

1Ti 2:9  Likewise, that the women dress themselves becomingly, with decency and sensibleness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments,
1Ti 2:10  but with good works,[b] which is becoming for women undertaking worship of Elohim. Footnote: b Mat_16:27
1Ti 2:11  Let a woman learn in silence, in all subjection.
1Ti 2:12  But I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, rather, to be in silence.
1Ti 2:13  Because Aḏam was formed first, then Ḥawwah.
1Ti 2:14  And Aḏam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, fell into transgression.
1Ti 2:15  But she shall be saved in childbearing if they continue in belief, and love, and set-apartness, with sensibleness.

Eze 34:17  And as for you, O My flock, thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am judging between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats.

Act 13:33  that Elohim has filled this for us, their children, having raised up יהושע, as it has also been written in the second Tehillah, ‘You are My Son, today I have brought You forth.’ Psa_2:7

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Ameyn.
