Parashat 52 Portion 172 ‘’Vayeilech’’ Deut 31:14-32:4 & 1 Kings 2:1-12 Is 51:12-52:12

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah – Amein.

הן קרבו ימיך –‘’ behold your days are near ..’’ these words ring true for all humanity.

Joshua/Yehishua Commissioned to Lead Israel

Deu 31:14  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “See, the days have drawn near for you to die. (7th Adar) Call Yehoshua, and present yourselves in the Tent of Appointment, so that I command him.” And Mosheh and Yehoshua went and presented themselves in the Tent of Appointment.

Deu 31:15  And יהוה appeared at the Tent in a column of a cloud, and the column of a cloud stood above the door of the Tent.

Deu 31:16  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “See, you are about to sleep with your fathers. And this people shall rise and whore after the mighty ones of the strangers of the land into the midst of which they shall enter, and forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.

Deu 31:17  “Then My displeasure shall burn against them in that day, and I shall forsake them and hide My face from them, and they shall be consumed. And many evils and distresses shall come upon them, and it shall be said in that day, ‘Is it not because our Elohim is not in our midst that these evils have come upon us?’

Deu 31:18  “And I shall certainly hide My face in that day, because of all the evil which they have done, for they shall turn to other mighty ones.

Deu 31:19  “And now write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Yisra’ěl. Put it in their mouths, so that this song is to Me for a witness against the children of Yisra’ěl.

The song of Moshe and YHVH’s commissioning of Joshua/Yahoshua have a profound end time fulfilment.

Rev 15:1  And I saw another sign in the heaven, great and marvellous: seven messengers having the seven last plagues,a for the wrath of Elohim was ended in them. Footnote: aSee Rev_21:9

Rev 15:2  And I saw like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those overcoming the beast and his image and his mark and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of Elohim.

Rev 15:3  And they sing the song of Mosheh the servant of Elohim, and (καί – primary participle – also meaning ‘’therefore’’) the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvellous are Your works, יהוה Ěl Shaddai! Righteous and true are Your ways, O Sovereign of the set-apart ones!

Rev 15:4  “Who shall not fear You, O יהוה, and esteem Your Name? Because You alone are kind. Because all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your righteousnesses have been made manifest.”b Footnote: bSee Jer_10:6-7, Psa_86:9. (600 references to the Tenach)

Deu 31:20  “And I shall bring them to the land flowing with milk and honey, of which I swore to their fathers, and they shall eat and be satisfied and be fat, then they shall turn to other mighty ones, and they shall serve them, and scorn Me and break My covenant. (10 sayings – Ex 20)

Deu 31:21  “And it shall be, when many evils and distresses come upon them, that this song shall answer before them as a witness. For it is not to be forgotten in the mouths of their seed, for I know their thoughts which they are forming today, even before I bring them to the land of which I swore to give them.”

Deu 31:22  And Mosheh wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Yisra’ěl.

Deu 31:23  And He commanded Yehoshua son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and courageous, for you are to bring the children of Yisra’ěl into the land of which I swore to them, and I Myself am with you.”

Deu 4:30  “In your distress, when all these words shall come upon you in the latter days, then you shall return to יהוה your Elohim and shall obey His voice.

Jer 23:20  The displeasure of יהוה shall not turn back until He has done and established the purposes of His heart. In the latter days you shall understand it perfectly.d Footnote: dSee Jer_30:24  שְׁאֵרִית      אַחֲרִית

Deu 31:24  And it came to be, when Mosheh had completed writing the Words of this Torah in a book, until their completion,

Deu 31:25  that Mosheh commanded the Lěwites, who bore the ark of the covenant of יהוה, saying,

Deu 31:26  “Take this Book of the Torah, and you shall place it beside the ark of the covenant of יהוה your Elohim, and it shall be there as a witness against you,

Deu 31:27  for I myself know your rebellion and your stiff neck. See, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against יהוה, then how much more after my death?

Deu 31:28  “Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, so that I speak these words in their hearing and call the heavens and the earth to witness against them.

Deu 31:29  “For I know that after my death you shall do very corruptly and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you. And evil shall come to you in the latter days, because you do what is evil in the eyes of יהוה, to provoke Him through the work of your hands.”

Midrash latter days - באחרית הימים׃  - the tragedy of both Christianity and Judaism is that they somehow assume that they are immune to the judgment of YHVH.

The Song of Moses/Moshe

Deu 31:30  So Mosheh spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Yisra’ěl the words of this song till their completion:

Deu 32:1  “Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak; And hear, O earth, The words of my mouth.

The Song of Moses is about the restoration of YHVH’s rule over the earth and the heavens bringing to fulfilment His original plan – to have one family of peoples bringing into realization His original mandate to Adam and Eve to multiply and be “Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth and subdue it”'' / Or bring it under control and manage it.’’ Gen 1:28

Hab 2:14  for the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the esteem of יהוה, as the waters cover the sea![a] Footnote: a Isa_11:9

The sages teach that our entire life history is encapsulated in the song of Moses/Moshe and that “If Israel was wise, they might study these verses in the Song of Moshe to know their latter end”.

Moshe starts his wilderness ministry with a song, (Ex 15) now he ends it with a song –

This same Song of Moshe will be sung at the end of days – Rev 15:1-3.

Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Mosheh the servant of Elohim, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvellous are Your works, יהוה Ěl Shaddai! Righteous and true are Your ways, O Sovereign of the set-apart ones!

We see an amazing structure to this song in the Torah scroll. It is written in two columns. (70 lines)

In this teaching I have presented in bold the words written on the right- hand side of the scroll, the sentences not in bold are the sentences on the left- hand side of the scroll.

When we sing this song in the great tribulation it is going to be a song of mankinds redemptive history. It will be the key to help us understand all that has happened in the past and will unfold in the last days as it has been recorded in the Torah and the Messianic writings.

Deu 31:30  So Mosheh spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Yisra’ěl the words of this song till their completion:

Deu 32:1  “Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak; And hear, O earth, The words of my mouth.

Deu 32:2  “Let my instruction fall as rain, My speech drop down as dew, As fine rain on the tender plants, And as showers on the grass.

Deu 32:3  “For I proclaim the Name of יהוה, Ascribe greatness to our Elohim.

Deu 32:4  “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are right-ruling, An Ěl of truth and without unrighteousness, Righteous and straight is He.

1.Dev 32:1 “Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak; - (right hand side vs 1)

א  הַאֲזִינוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם, וַאֲדַבֵּרָה

Moshe first addresses the heavens – these are the words that Moshe is speaking from his mouth that come directly out of the mouth of YHVH. This address includes all principalities and powers both good and evil. These words appear on the right- hand side of the Torah scroll.

1 (b) and hear, O earth, The words (sayings) of my mouth. (Left hand side)

וְתִשְׁמַע הָאָרֶץ, אִמְרֵי-פִ

We note here that every word that YHVH wants us to hear on earth will be confirmed by at least two witnesses – heaven and earth.

2Co 13:1 “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.” 1 Footnote: 1 Dt. 19:15.

2. Dev 32:2 “Let my instruction (Heb -leqach) fall(trickle) as rain, (vs 2)

ב יַעֲרֹף כַּמָּטָר לִקְחִי,

H3948 leqach  - (noun) learning, teaching, insight also ‘’laqach’’- verb- means ‘’to take’’.

“Allow My instruction to be as a trickling (Heb – יַעֲרֹף) rain” or ‘’take the words of My Torah and allow them to completely soak and penetrate your heart (Neshama or divine inspiration – Gen 2:7) to receive every Word that comes from my mouth. (Like a farmer sowing his seed wating for the first rain to allow the seeds to germinate)

Gen 2:7  And יהוה Elohim formed the man out of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils breath of lives. And the man became a living being. (living soul or ‘’nefesh’’)

Pro 20:27  The spirit (neshama) of a man is the lamp of יהוה, Searching all his inmost parts. Heb- ‘’all the chambers of your bosom or womb -  כל־חדרי־בטן׃

2(b) My speech drop down (distil as mist) as dew –

תִּזַּל כַּטַּל אִמְרָתִי,

My sayings distil (tizal) like the night mist (katal)…. Like water vapour (the Ruach) that keeps your inner most parts ‘’moist’’. Definition of distil - purify (a liquid) by heating it so that it vaporizes, then cooling and condensing the vapour and collecting the resulting purified water – process of condensation or rain.

3. As fine rain on the tender plants, (vs2)

כִּשְׂעִירִם עֲלֵי-דֶשֶׁא ‘’Shorim’’ or rain drops – דשׁא – new vegetation or grass.

3(b) And as(heavy) showers(raviv- bringing fruitfulness) on the grass. (become established and fruitful)  וְכִרְבִיבִים עֲלֵי-עֵשֶׂב.

Joel 2:23 And you children of Tsiyon, be glad and rejoice in יהוה your Elohim, for He shall give you

The  ־המורה (former rain) Teacher of Righteousness, and cause the rain (גשׁם) to come down for you, the former rain המורה  and the latter rain,( מלקושׁ) as before. ( מלקושׁ – March April rains that mature the crops.)

In Israel, the rainy season generally lasts from the fall Feast of  Shemini Atzeret where Jews begin reciting the prayer for rain, known as tefillat geshem, in the Amidah prayer.) until roughly the time of the Passover Feast in the spring. This period is vital for agriculture, groundwater recharge, and the overall water balance of the region

The prayer for rain, "Yoreh u Malkosh," is part of the daily Shema prayer recited by Jews around the world.

“I will give you the rain of your land in its due season,” YHVH says to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 11:14 “the first rain [yoreh - October until early December) and the latter rain [malkosh late spring rain), that thou mayest gather in thy grain, and thy wine, and thine oil.” “Wine” meant, of course, the grape harvest,

“The rainy cycle of Israel is a prophetic type for the preparing of the outpouring of the Ruach of YHVH and the harvest of souls associated with true revival. In late October, the early rain comes. It is called’’yoreh or pourer’; It gives the young seedlings their first spurt of growth to really start them on the way to maturity.(the Torah teachings of Messiah) The rainy season follows, a time of relatively steady, but not heavy rains. Finally, in late March or April, the latter rain comes. The Hebrews called it ‘’malkosh or harvest rain’’ It was much heavier than the early rain, and compared to the rainy season, it was a veritable deluge. The crops grew by leaps and bounds during this time, and the harvest immediately followed.” (Shavuot/Pentecost)

Mic 5:6 (7)– Prophecy of remnant.

והיה שׁארית יעקב בקרב עמים רבים כטל מאת יהוה כרביבים עלי־עשׂב אשׁר לא־יקוה לאישׁ ולא ייחל לבני אדם׃

כטלnight mist and כרביביםas heavy showers.

A Remnant Shall Be Delivered

Mic 5:7  And the remnant of Ya‛aqo shall be in the midst of many peoples, as dew (כטל) from יהוה, as showers (כרביבים) on the grass, which do not wait for man nor delay for the sons of men.

Jer 3:14  “Return, O backsliding children,” declares יהוה, “for I shall rule over you, and shall take you, one from a city and two from a clan,a and shall bring you to Tsiyon. Footnote: aSee Isa_27:12. (first a remnant then many)

4. Dev 32:3 “For (this reason) I will proclaim (encounter) the Name of יהוה, (vs 3)

כִּי שֵׁם יְהוָה, אֶקְרָא

Who is speaking now? Is it a voice from heaven? (remember this is on the right hand side of the scroll) Is it maybe the voice of Messiah sitting on the right hand of YHVH?

4(b) Ascribe greatness to our Elohim. הָבוּ גֹדֶל, לֵאלֹהֵינוּ (יָהַב have hope) or have hope in the greatness (גֹּדֶל or magnitude) of Elohim. (YHVH)

Maybe our response to Messiah – some believe the Song of Moshe will be sung just before his return in the clouds.

5. Dev 32:4 “The Rock! His work is perfect, vs 4

הַצּוּר תָּמִים פָּעֳלוֹ

Maybe this YHVH speaking again? (right hand side of scroll) speaking of Messiah, because Messiah is about to return to the earth and accomplish YHVH’s final redemption.

1Co 10:4  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah.

5(b) For all His ways are right-ruling,

כִּי כָל-דְּרָכָיו מִשְׁפָּט

The verses found in a mezuzah are Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Deuteronomy 11:13-21. These passages are from the book of Deuteronomy in the Hebrew Bible.

In ancient Israel, the start of the year was determined by observing the new moon and, importantly, the ripening of barley. The first month of the year, Nisan (also known as Abib), began when the barley harvest reached a certain state of maturity, often called "abib". This meant that the calendar was both solar and lunar, tied to the natural rhythm of the seasons and the new moon.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

·        The New Moon:

Each month began with the appearance of the new moon, and this was a key factor in determining the start of the year.

·        Barley Harvest:

The biblical calendar, particularly in the spring, was also tied to the ripening of the barley crop, which was crucial for agricultural festivals.

·        First Month (Nisan/Aviv):

The first month of the year, Nisan, was linked to the Exodus from Egypt and the month of Passover. It was also associated with the barley harvest, with priests presenting the first ripe barley to the Lord during the Feast of Firstfruits.

·        Agricultural Significance:

The entire calendar was designed to align with the agricultural cycle of Israel, ensuring that festivals and holidays were celebrated at the right time based on the ripeness of crops and the lunar phases.

·        Leap Months:

Occasionally, an extra month was added to the calendar to keep it synchronized with the solar year and the seasons, particularly if the barley wasn't ripe enough at the expected time.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

AI Overview (Artificial Intelligence)

The concept of a "carnal man not discerning spirit" is a central theme in Christianity, particularly as presented in 1 Corinthians 2:14. It highlights the idea that those who are not spiritually minded cannot understand or appreciate spiritual truths, seeing them as foolishness. These truths are "spiritually discerned," meaning they require a spiritual perspective to comprehend.

Elaboration:

·        1 Corinthians 2:14:

This verse states, "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God,(including Torah – emphasis mine) for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

·        Natural Man:

The "natural man" refers to someone who is not guided by the Holy Spirit, lacking the capacity for spiritual understanding.

·        Spiritually Discerning:

These truths, like the Gospel and God's plan for salvation, are understood through the Holy Spirit, which provides the spiritual perspective needed for comprehension.

·        Foolishness:

The teachings of the Spirit are considered foolish to the natural man because they do not align with human reason or worldly wisdom. Rom 10:17

·        Impact on Understanding:

Without the Spirit's guidance, individuals cannot grasp the spiritual truths, and they remain closed off to God's revelation.(Torah)

·        Relationship to Faith:

While reason (nefesh) can impart facts, it cannot produce faith, which requires the Holy Spirit's communication.
