Parashat 22 Portion 71 – Va Yakel- Shemot 34:27-36:38 Haftarah: Yer 31:31-40 Second Writings: 1 Cor 12:1-13

Blessing for the Torah Reading:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

"Thus the tales related in the Torah are simply her outer garments, and woe to the man who regards that outer garb as the Torah itself, for such a man will be deprived of portion in the next world. Thus David said: 'Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law' (Psalms 119:18), that is to say, the things that are underneath” - Zohar

Exo 34:27  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Write these Words, for according to the mouth of these Words I have made a covenant with you and with Yisra’ĕl.”
Exo 34:28  And he was there with יהוה forty days and forty nights. He did not eat bread and he did not drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the Words of the covenant, the Ten Words.
Exo 34:29  And it came to be, when Mosheh came down from Mount Sinai, while the two tablets of the Witness were in Mosheh’s hand when he came down from the mountain, that Mosheh did not know that the skin of his face shone since he had spoken with Him.
Exo 34:30  And Aharon and all the children of Yisra’ĕl looked at Mosheh and saw the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.

Moshe may have experienced what our first father and mother experienced in the garden of Eden – Moshe radiated the esteem or the light of YHVH. The Hebrew word for “light” is “or” ( the Hebrew letters aleph, vav, resh). The Hebrew word for “skin” is also “or”(the Hebrew letters ayin, vav, resh).

Exo 34:31  But Mosheh called out to them, and Aharon and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, and Mosheh spoke to them.
Exo 34:32  And afterward all the children of Yisra’ĕl came near, and he commanded them all that יהוה had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
Exo 34:33  And when Mosheh ended speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.
Exo 34:34  But whenever Mosheh went in before יהוה to speak with Him, he would remove the veil until he came out. And when he came out he spoke to the children of Yisra’ĕl what he had been commanded,
Exo 34:35  and the children of Yisra’ĕl would see the face of Mosheh, that the skin of Mosheh’s face shone, and Mosheh would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him.
Exo 35:1  And Mosheh assembled all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, and said to them, “These are the Words which יהוה has commanded you to do:

א  וַיַּקְהֵל מֹשֶׁה, אֶת-כָּל-עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל--וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם:  אֵלֶּה, הַדְּבָרִים, אֲשֶׁר-צִוָּה יְהוָה, לַעֲשֹׂת אֹתָם.

The reason we are called to come together in set apartness is because we are to be reminded again and again to hear, obey and do all the commandments of YHVH. The word ”kehelah” comes from the title of this week’s portion which means an ”assembly of people.” The Greek word ”ekklesia” is also related to this word.

Let it be stated clearly that YHVH will never ever call an assembly of His set apart ones WITH ANY OTHER AGENDA THAN TO HEAR OBEY AND DO ALL OF HIS TORAH.

We know that presently it is impossible to obey and do all of Torah because there is no temple and we are outside of the land of Yisrael.

Sadly most religious meetings either ignore the Torah or misrepresent the Torah.

Exo 35:2  “Work is done for six days, but on the seventh day it shall be set-apart to you, a Sabbath of rest to יהוה. Anyone doing work on it is put to death.
Exo 35:3  “Do not kindle (ba ar) a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”

The very first duty Yisrael is called upon to perform is that of the Sabbath.

The work of gathering and preparing a fire is clearly what is prohibited.  Just as the work of preparing food or collecting food or wood is prohibited on the seventh day, the preparing and collecting (grazing –Heb “ba ar” pi el verb S 1197) of wood (for the fire) is prohibited on the Sabbath.

Exo 35:4  And Mosheh spoke to all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, “This is the word which יהוה commanded, saying,
Exo 35:5  ‘Take from among you a contribution to יהוה. Everyone whose heart so moves him, let him bring it as a contribution to יהוה: gold, and silver, and bronze,
Exo 35:6  and blue, and purple, and scarlet material, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,
Exo 35:7  and ram skins dyed red, and fine leather, and acacia wood,
Exo 35:8  and oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense,
Exo 35:9  and shoham stones, and stones to be set in the shoulder garment and in the breastplate.
Exo 35:10  ‘And let all the wise-hearted among you come and make all that יהוה has commanded:
Exo 35:11  the Dwelling Place, its tent and its covering, its hooks and its boards, its bars, its columns, and its sockets,
Exo 35:12  the ark and its poles, the lid of atonement and the veil of the covering,
Exo 35:13  the table and its poles, and all its utensils, and the showbread,
Exo 35:14  and the lampstand for the light, and its utensils, and its lamps, and the oil for the light,
Exo 35:15  and the incense altar, and its poles, and the anointing oil, and the sweet incense, and the covering for the door at the entrance of the Dwelling Place,
Exo 35:16  the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils, the basin and its stand,
Exo 35:17  the screens of the courtyard, its columns, and their sockets, and the covering for the gate of the courtyard,
Exo 35:18  the pegs of the Dwelling Place, and the pegs of the courtyard, and their cords,
Exo 35:19  the woven garments to do service in the set-apart place, the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest and the garments of his sons to serve as priests.’ ”
Exo 35:20  And all the congregation of the children of Yisra’ĕl withdrew from the presence of Mosheh.
Exo 35:21  And everyone whose heart lifted him up and everyone whose spirit moved him came, and they brought the contribution to יהוה for the work of the Tent of Meeting, and for all its service, and for the set-apart garments.
Exo 35:22  And they came, both men and women, all whose hearts moved them, and brought earrings and nose rings, and rings and necklaces, all golden goods, even every one who made a wave offering of gold to יהוה.
Exo 35:23  And every man, with whom was found blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine linen, and goats’ hair, and rams’ skins dyed red, and fine leather, brought them.
Exo 35:24  Everyone who would make a contribution to יהוה of silver or bronze, brought it. And everyone with whom was found acacia wood for any work of the service, brought it.
Exo 35:25  And all the wise-hearted women spun yarn with their hands, and brought what they had spun, the blue and the purple, the scarlet material, and the fine linen.
Exo 35:26  And all the women whose hearts lifted them up in wisdom spun the goats’ hair.
Exo 35:27  And the rulers brought shoham stones, and the stones to be set in the shoulder garment and in the breastplate,
Exo 35:28  and the spices and the oil for the light, and for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.
Exo 35:29  The children of Yisra’ĕl brought a voluntary offering to יהוה, all the men and women whose hearts moved them to bring all kinds of work which יהוה, by the hand of Mosheh, had commanded to be done.
Exo 35:30  And Mosheh said to the children of Yisra’ĕl, “See, יהוה has called by name Betsal’ĕl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah,
Exo 35:31  and He has filled him with the Spirit of Elohim, in wisdom, in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work,
Exo 35:32  to make designs, to work in gold and in silver and in bronze,
Exo 35:33  and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all workmanship of design.
Exo 35:34  “And He has put in his heart the ability to teach, in him and Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan.
Exo 35:35  “He has filled them with skill to do all work of the engraver and the designer and embroiderer, in blue and in purple, in scarlet material, and in fine linen, and a weaver, doing any work, and makers of designs.
Exo 36:1  “And Betsal’ĕl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whom יהוה has given wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all work for the service of the set-apart place, shall do according to all that יהוה has commanded.”
Exo 36:2  And Mosheh called Betsal’ĕl and Oholiaḇ, and every wise-hearted man in whose heart יהוה had given wisdom, everyone whose heart lifted him up, to come and do the work.
Exo 36:3  And they received from Mosheh all the contribution which the children of Yisra’ĕl had brought for the work of the service of making the set-apart place. But they still brought to him voluntary offerings every morning,
Exo 36:4  so all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the set-apart place came, each from the work he was doing,

Exo 36:5  and they spoke to Mosheh, saying, “The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which יהוה commanded us to do.”

Exo 36:6  Then Mosheh commanded and they sent this word throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the contribution of the set-apart place.” And the people were withheld from bringing,
Exo 36:7  for what they had was enough for all the work to be done, more than enough.
Exo 36:8  Then all the wise-hearted ones among them who worked on the Dwelling Place made ten curtains woven of fine linen and blue and purple and scarlet material. They made them with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.
Exo 36:9  The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, all the curtains having one measure.
Exo 36:10  And he joined five curtains, one to another; and the other five curtains he joined, one to another.
Exo 36:11  And he made loops of blue on the edge of the end curtain of one set, the same he did on the edge of the end curtain of the other set.
Exo 36:12  Fifty loops he made on one curtain, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the end curtain of the second set; the loops held one curtain to another.
Exo 36:13  And he made fifty hooks of gold, and joined the curtains to each other with the hooks, and the Dwelling Place became one.
Exo 36:14  And he made curtains of goats’ hair for the tent over the Dwelling Place, he made eleven curtains.
Exo 36:15  The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits, the eleven curtains having one measure.
Exo 36:16  And he joined five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves.
Exo 36:17  And he made fifty loops on the edge of the end curtain in one set, and fifty loops he made on the edge of the curtain of the second set.
Exo 36:18  And he made fifty bronze hooks to join the tent, to be one.
Exo 36:19  And he made a covering for the tent of rams’ skins, dyed red, and a covering of fine leather above that.
Exo 36:20  And for the Dwelling Place he made boards of acacia wood, standing up.
Exo 36:21  The length of each board was ten cubits, and the width of each board a cubit and a half.
Exo 36:22  Each board had two tenons for binding one to another. So he did to all the boards of the Dwelling Place.
Exo 36:23  And he made boards for the Dwelling Place, twenty boards for the south side.
Exo 36:24  And he made forty sockets of silver to go under the twenty boards, and two sockets under each of the boards for its two tenons.
Exo 36:25  And for the other side of the Dwelling Place, for the north side, he made twenty boards,
Exo 36:26  and their forty sockets of silver, two sockets under the one board, and two sockets under the other board.
Exo 36:27  And he made six boards for the west side of the Dwelling Place.
Exo 36:28  And he made two boards for the two back corners of the Dwelling Place.
Exo 36:29  And they were double beneath, and similarly they were complete to the top by one ring. So he did to both of them for the two corners.
Exo 36:30  And there were eight boards, and their silver sockets, sixteen sockets, two sockets under each of the boards.
Exo 36:31  And he made bars of acacia wood, five for the boards on one side of the Dwelling Place,
Exo 36:32  and five bars for the boards on the other side of the Dwelling Place, and five bars for the boards of the Dwelling Place at the rear, westward.
Exo 36:33  And he made the middle bar to pass through the boards from one end to the other.
Exo 36:34  And he overlaid the boards with gold, and their rings he made of gold to be holders for the bars, and overlaid the bars with gold.
Exo 36:35  And he made a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine worked linen. It was made with keruḇim, the work of a skilled workman.
Exo 36:36  And he made four columns of acacia wood for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold. And he cast four sockets of silver for them.
Exo 36:37  And he made a covering for the Tent door of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine woven linen, made by a weaver,
Exo 36:38  and its five columns with their hooks. And he overlaid their tops and their rings with gold, but their five sockets were of bronze.

We who have come out of the Pentecostal Charismatic movement need to take another careful look at the gifts and ministries of the Ruach Ha Kodesh (Set Apart Spirit).
These gifts and manifestations were meant to build up and establish the “Kehelah” (assembly) of YHVH in such a way that they could function according to the instructions of Torah to be a light to the gentiles.
The gifts and ministries of the Ruach of YHVH have been given to conform His Kehelah into the image of Messiah.
It will only be a corporate anointing working in unity amongst the Redeemed of Yisrael that will bring about a perfect union between Yahshua and His Bride.

We are commanded to be filled with the Spirit.

Eph 5:18 …. be filled with the Spirit,
Eph 5:19  speaking to each other in psalms and songs of praise and spiritual songs, singing and striking the strings in your heart to the Master,

We need to humble ourselves and pray and ask YHVH to show us what hinders the moving of His Ruach amongst us.

We see a pattern right in the beginning of Torah. Where there is chaos and turmoil on the earth YHVH “blows” His Ruach over the chaos to create what is good and perfect and pleasing in His Eyes.

Note the pattern of Shavuot/“Pentecost”  in the book of  Acts. There were first a small group of people who received the infilling of the Ruach. This prepared the way for an even greater outpouring on the 3000 and then subsequent outpourings mentioned in the book of Acts. These vessels (people) were “Torah shaped” and Torah prepared. The Ruach of YHVH CANNOT occupy a vessel that has not been shaped and formed by His Word – His Torah.

Gen 1:1  In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.
Gen 1:2  And the earth came to be1 formless and empty, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim was moving on the face of the waters. Footnote: 1Or the earth became.

The Hebrew words for “formless and void” (tohu vavohu) cannot be directly translated and implies an “astonishing emptiness.” This emptiness or vanity can be caused by idolatry.

Today after many centuries of disregard for YHVH’s Torah we have an astonishing emptiness of an understanding of YHVH and His Ways.
And most of us don’t even realize it.

At the end of this age YHVH will once again “breath” (pour out His Ruach) on an end time Messianic people. Shavuout (Pentecost) cannot be separated from the giving of the Torah (mattan ha torah)

Joe 2:28  “And after this it shall be that I pour out My Spirit on all flesh. And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men dream dreams, your young men see visions.
Joe 2:29  “And also on the male servants and on the female servants I shall pour out My Spirit in those days.
Joe 2:30  “And I shall give signs in the heavens and upon the earth: blood and fire and columns of smoke,
Joe 2:31  the sun is turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of יהוה.

Yahshua commanded his Talmadim after his death to wait until Shavuot (Pentecost) when they too would be empowered by the Spirit of YHVH to proclaim the Kingdom of YHVH to all nations.
The world has never seen a messianic community as vibrant and zealous for the Torah as this first community in Yerushalayim after receiving the fullness of the Ruach Ha Kodesh.

Parashat 21 Portion 70 – Shemot 32:15-34:26 Haftarah: 2 Samuel 22:10- Second Writings: Rom 9:14-16

Blessing for the Torah Reading:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples,
and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

Exo 32:15  And Mosheh turned and went down from the mountain, and in his hand were the two tablets of the Witness, tablets written on both their sides, written on the one and on the other.
Exo 32:16  And the tablets were the work of Elohim, and the writing was the writing of Elohim engraved on the tablets.

--חָרוּת, עַל-הַלֻּחֹת.

Engraved (charut) on the Tablets (32:16) Had the First Tablets not been broken, no nation or people could have subjugated the Hebrew people, as it is written, "Charut on the Tablet." Do not read charut (engraved), but cheirut (free); on account of these Tablets, Israel would have remained ever free. (Talmud and Rashi, Eruvin 54a)
Avot 6:2 … )---for there is no free individual, except for he who occupies himself with the study of Torah

Yakov/Jas 1:25  But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom,1 and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah. Footnote: 1See 2:12.
Jas 2:12  So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.1 Footnote: 1See 1:25, and John 8:32-36.

This is not the Torah of bondage as the church has taught – it is the Torah of freedom because when we are empowered by the Ruach Ha Kodesh to walk in all the righteousness of the Torah we will progressively experience a life of freedom.

Rom 8:2  For the Torah of the Spirit of the life in Messiah יהושע has set me free from the law of sin and of death.
Rom 8:3  For the Torah being powerless, in that it was weak through the flesh, Elohim, having His own Son in the likeness of flesh of sin, and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh,
Rom 8:4  so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Exo 32:17  And Yehoshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted and he said to Mosheh, “A noise of battle in the camp!”

The sound of idolatry is impressive – it sounds mighty and convincing but in reality it can be compared to a spiritual drunken orgy where the religious masses fornicate with the most despicable theological doctrines imaginable, done in the name of “serving” Elohim.

Exo 32:18  But he said, “It is not the sound of those who shout of might, nor is it the sound of those who cry out in weakness, but the sound of singing that I hear.”
Exo 32:19  And it came to be, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. And Mosheh’s displeasure burned, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

It is very clear that idolatry consists of any actions, words or thoughts that contradict or violate the covenant (Torah) of Yahvch.
The greatest responsibility placed upon man is to hear, obey and do all the commandments of YHVH.
Wilful and ongoing disobedience to YHVH’s covenant carries with it the most serious consequences imaginable for man.

“Idolatry is putting someone else in YHVH’s place.
Genuine faith in YHVH is singular faith – a faith that relies upon the Elohim of Yisrael and upon Him alone.
Idolatry is not only bowing to a false god, or putting man in the place of YHVH. It is also thinking and living as though there is no real need of YHVH
Idolatrous people are satisfied with a corporate relationship with YHVH.”

Most people who claim to follow true religion will be turned away from entering into YHVH’s presence.

Mat 7:21  “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens.
Mat 7:22  “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’
Mat 7:23  “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’1 Footnote: 1 See v. 15.

Mat 25:11  “And later the other maidens also came, saying, ‘Master, Master, open up for us!’
Mat 25:12  “But he answering, said, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

Exo 32:20  And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and ground it into powder, and scattered it on the face of the water and made the children of Yisra’ĕl drink it.

Moshe imposed on them a test like that given a “sotah” a wife accused of adultery – Bamid/Numbers 5:16-18. It is likely that a plague came upon those who were guilty see 33:25

“Colloidal gold” (gold dust) preparations (suspensions of gold nanaoparticles) in water are intensely red- coloured, and can be made with tightly controlled particle sizes up to a few tens of nanometers across by reduction of gold chloride with citrate or ascorbate ions. Colloidal gold is used in research applications in medicine, biology and materials science.”  Wikipedia.

Is this just a coincidence that the water turned red when the gold dust was mixed with the water?

Midrash:

Idolatry or false religion is often obsessed with the acquiring of wealth (gold).
A severe judgment will be made on such idolatry illustrated by the gold being ground into powder. People will one day come face to face with their idolatry illustrated by drinking of gold dust as a form of severe judgment.
One can also midrash around the fact that Yahshua was broken (Torah tablets smashed) and his blood flowed for the healing of our seemingly incurable disease of idolatry and all other related iniquities.
Yahshua will return during a future Yom Kippur. The second set of tablets were given to Moshe during the time of Yom Kippur.
Yahshua return in the fullness of Torah to teach Torah to the nations – Yesh 2:2,3.

Isa 2:2  And it shall be in the latter days that the mountain of the House of יהוה is established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills. And all nations shall flow to it.
Isa 2:3  And many peoples shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of יהוה, to the House of the Elohim of Yaʽaqoḇ, and let Him teach1 us His ways1, and let us walk in His paths1, for out of Tsiyon comes forth the Torah1, and the Word1 of יהוה from Yerushalayim.” Footnote: 1His ways, His paths, the teaching and the Word of יהוה are used synonymously.

Yahshua has come in the volume of the book and will return in the volume of the book.

Heb 10:7  “Then I said, ‘See, I come – in the roll of the book it has been written concerning Me – to do Your desire, O Elohim. (Ps 40)

Exo 32:21  And Mosheh said to Aharon, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
Exo 32:22  And Aharon said, “Do not let the displeasure of my master burn. You know the people,  that it is in evil.

Their hearts are set on being idolatrous.

Exo 32:23  “And they said to me, ‘Make us mighty ones who go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.’
Exo 32:24  “And I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let them take it off.’ And they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
Exo 32:25  And Mosheh saw that the people were let loose, for Aharon had let them loose, to their shame among their enemies.

Exo 32:26  And Mosheh stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Who is for יהוה? Come to me.” And all the sons of Lĕwi gathered themselves to him.

We need to note here that the majority of Yisrael did not join Moshe – only a few priests – Levites.

Exo 32:27  And he said to them, “Thus said יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ĕl: ‘Each one put his sword on his side, pass over to and fro from gate to gate in the camp, and each one slay his brother, and each one his friend, and each one his relative.’ ”
Exo 32:28  And the sons of Lĕwi did according to the word of Mosheh. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.
Exo 32:29  And Mosheh said, “You are ordained for יהוה today – since each one has been against his son and his brother – so as to bring upon you a blessing today.”
Exo 32:30  And it came to be on the next day that Mosheh said to the people, “You, you have sinned a great sin. And now I am going up to יהוה – if I might atone for your sin.”
Exo 32:31  And Mosheh returned to יהוה and said, “Oh, these people have sinned a great sin, and have made for themselves a mighty one of gold!
Exo 32:32  “And now, if You would forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of Your book which You have written.”

Moshe seeks to annul the covenant of death Yisrael has made. The Torah teaches in Bemidbar/Numbers 30 that the father can annul a vow that his daughter or wife enter into unwisely.

Moshe seeks to annul this vow by offering himself up as a ransom. This points us to a future time when Messiah himself would be the only one who could offer up himself to be cut off from YHVH and annul the covenant of death mankind has entered into.

Exo 32:33  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I blot him out of My book.
Exo 32:34  “And now, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. See, My Messenger goes before you. And in the day of My visitation I shall visit their sin upon them.”
Exo 32:35  And יהוה plagued the people because they made the calf, which Aharon made.

Exo 33:1  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Come, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim, to the land of which I swore to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and to Yaʽaqoḇ, saying, ‘To your seed I give it.’
Exo 33:2  “And I shall send My Messenger before you, and I shall drive out the Kenaʽanite and the Amorite and the Ḥittite and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite and the Yeḇusite,
Exo 33:3  to a land flowing with milk and honey. For I do not go up in your midst because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
Exo 33:4  And when the people heard this evil word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.
Exo 33:5  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Say to the children of Yisra’ĕl, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. Should I go up in your midst for one moment I shall consume you. And now, take off your ornaments, and I shall know what to do to you.’ ”
Exo 33:6  So the children of Yisra’ĕl took off their ornaments at Mount Ḥorĕḇ
.
Exo 33:7  And Mosheh took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the Tent of Meeting. And it came to be that everyone who sought יהוה went out to the Tent of Meeting which was outside the camp.

This pattern seems to repeat itself again and again. If you truly want to be free from idolatry you need to “leave the camp.”

Exo 33:8  And it came to be, whenever Mosheh went out to the Tent, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Mosheh until he entered the Tent.
Exo 33:9  And it came to be, when Mosheh entered the Tent, that the column of cloud descended and stood at the door of the Tent, and He spoke with Mosheh.
Exo 33:10  And all the people saw the column of cloud standing at the Tent door, and all the people rose and bowed themselves, each one at the door of his tent.
Exo 33:11  Thus יהוה spoke to Mosheh face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Yehoshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the Tent.

יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן-נוּן נַעַר, לֹא יָמִישׁ מִתּוֹךְ הָאֹהֶל.  {פ}

The sages say “bin” is used instead of “ben” to denote that Yehoshua was a man of “understanding” – “bein” in Hebrew.
In a midrashic sense this Yehoshua can be likened to our own Yahshua Moshiach who was a disciple of Moshe. They even carry the same name.

Exo 33:12  And Mosheh said to יהוה, “See, You are saying to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not made known to me whom You would send with me, though You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favour in My eyes.’
Exo 33:13  “And now, please, if I have found favour in Your eyes, please show me Your way, and let me know You, so that I find favour in Your eyes. And consider that this nation is Your people.”
Exo 33:14  And He said, “My Presence does go, and I shall give you rest.”
Exo 33:15  And he said to Him, “If Your Presence is not going, do not lead us up from here.
Exo 33:16  “For how then shall it be known that I have found favour in Your eyes, I and Your people, except You go with us? Then we shall be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”
Exo 33:17  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Even this word you have spoken I shall do, for you have found favour in My eyes, and I know you by name.”

Exo 33:18  Then he said, “Please, show me Your esteem.”
Exo 33:19  And He said, “I shall cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I shall proclaim the Name of יהוה before you. And I shall favour him whom I favour, and shall have compassion on him whom I have compassion.”
Exo 33:20  But He said, “You are unable to see My face, for no man does see Me and live.”

The name of YHVH is the single summation of all He is – the sum of all His attributes. Thus when YHVH puts Moshe in the cleft of the rock He first declares His Name and then proceeds to reveal His Esteem by describing His attributes. “To be satisfied with the pop culture name (God) and definition of YHVH is likewise to engage in idolatry, for the worship of the G-d which the culture has defined is the worship of another G-d. Our golden calves are less obvious, but they are there nonetheless.”

That’s why you have to come to come out of the camp and seek to join yourself to the heart of Moshe.

Exo 33:21  And יהוה said, “See, there is a place with Me! And you shall stand on the rock.
Exo 33:22  “And it shall be, while My esteem passes by, that I shall put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand while I pass by.
Exo 33:23  “Then I shall take away My hand and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”
Exo 34:1  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I shall write on these tablets the Words that were on the first tablets which you broke. (Emphasis added by myself).
Exo 34:2  “And be ready in the morning. Then you shall come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain.
Exo 34:3  “And let no man come up with you, and let no man be seen in all the mountain, and let not even the flock or the herd feed in front of that mountain.”
Exo 34:4  And he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Mosheh rose early in the morning and went up Mount Sinai, as יהוה had commanded him, and he took two tablets of stone in his hand.
Exo 34:5  And יהוה came down in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the Name, יהוה.

Exo 34:6  And יהוה passed before him and proclaimed, “יהוה, יהוה, an Ěl compassionate and showing favour, patient, and great in kindness and truth,
Exo 34:7  watching over kindness for thousands, forgiving crookedness and transgression and sin, but by no means leaving unpunished1, visiting the crookedness of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” Footnote: 1This is confirmed in Num. 14:18, and in Jer. 30:11.

Jer 30:11  ‘For I am with you,’ declares יהוה, ‘to save you. Though I make a complete end of all gentiles1 where I have scattered you, yet I do not make a complete end of you. But I shall reprove you in judgment, and by no means leave you unpunished.’ Footnote: 1See 46:28, Isa. 34:2, Isa. 45:17, Dan. 2:44, Amos 9:8, Hag. 2:22.
Jer 30:12  “For thus said יהוה, ‘Your breach is incurable, your wound is grievous.

Jer 30:24  The burning displeasure of יהוה shall not turn back until He has done and established the purposes of His heart. In the latter days you shall understand it1. Footnote: 1See 23:20.

Exo 34:8  And Mosheh hurried and bowed himself toward the earth, and did obeisance,
Exo 34:9  and said, “If, now, I have found favour in Your eyes, O יהוה, I pray, let יהוה go on in our midst, even though we are a stiff-necked people. And forgive our crookedness and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”
Exo 34:10  And He said, “See, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I am going to do wonders such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of יהוה. For what I am doing with you is awesome.

Parashat 21- Portion 69 Shemot/Exodus 31:1-32:14; Ezekiel 20:1-17 ; Col 3:1-5

Blessing for the Torah Reading:
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-O’lam, asher bachar banu m’kol ha-amim,
v’natan lanu eht Torah-to. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim , King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Ameyn.)

This Torah portion instructs us that YHVH creates the time (sabbath) and the space or circumstances (mishkan or tabernacle) for our worship -  When we are not guided by these instructions of how to worship YHVH we will inevitably land up in some form of idolatry or mixed worship.

Joh 4:23  “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also does seek such to worship Him.
Joh 4:24  “Elohim is Spirit, and those who worship Him need to worship in spirit and truth.”

We see that Betsalel and Oholiab were filled with the Ruach of YHVH and with wisdom to build a place of worship.  Today we have a greater revelation of the gifts and enablings of the Ruach to be able to worship in Spirit and in truth.

Our Torah portion begins:
Exo 31:1  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 31:2  “See, I have called by name Betsal’ĕl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe of Yehuḏah,
Exo 31:3  and I have filled him with the Spirit of Elohim in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work,
Exo 31:4  to make designs for work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze,
Exo 31:5  and in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all work.
Exo 31:6  “And I, look I have appointed with him Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the tribe of Dan. And I have put wisdom in the hearts of everyone who is wise-hearted, and they shall make all that I have commanded you:

Betsalel ("In the shadow of Elohim"), a Yudahite; was evidently Miriam's grandson.
Oholiab ("The Father is my tent"), a Danite, was his assistant. YHVH endowed both men with natural ability as well as with the Set Apart Spirit to do the work He had appointed for them - a space where YHVH Himself would come to visit.

When YHVH calls someone by name He is usually about to reveal and impart great wisdom and ability.

Isa 45:3  ‘And I shall give you the treasures of darkness and hoarded wealth of secret places, so that you know that I, יהוה, who are calling you by your name, am the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.
Isa 45:4  ‘For the sake of Yaʽaqoḇ My servant, and of Yisra’ĕl My chosen, I also call you by your name, I give you a title, though you have not known Me.

Whatever YHVH creates He breaths His Life over the work of His Hands.

Gen 2:7  And יהוה Elohim formed the man out of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils breath of life. And the man became a living being.

Yahshua also breathed over his talmadim – disciples.

Joh 20:21  Then יהושע said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
Joh 20:22  And having said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Set-apart Spirit.

At the end of this age YHVH will once again “breath” (pour out His Ruach) on an end time Messianic people. Shavuot cannot be separated from the giving of the Torah (mattan ha torah). ( Shavuot was translated in English as Pentecost. The word Pentecost is the transliteration from the Greek word ‘Pentecoste’ that in the greek means “Fiftieth”. Shavuot in Hebrew means “weeks” speaking of the Feast of weeks – the time of the counting of the Omer until the Fiftieth day.)

Yahshua commanded his Talmadim after his death to wait until Shavuot (Feast of weeks translated to Pentecoste in Greek) when they too would be empowered by the Spirit of YHVH to proclaim the Kingdom of YHVH to all nations.
The world has never seen a messianic community as vibrant and zealous for the Torah as this first community in Yerushalayim after receiving the fullness of the Ruach Ha Kodesh (the Set apart Spirit).

Act 21:20  And when they heard it, they praised the Master. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Yehuḏim there are who have believed, (in Yahshua Messiah) and all are ardent for the Torah.

The Second Writings (New Testament) have much “halachah”/ guidance on how the Ruach of YHVH equips His people to bring about a people who worship YHVH in Spirit and truth.

It is significant that when these instructions of the gifts and enabling’s of the Ruach were given before the destruction of the Temple.
We believe that when Messiah returns the temple will be rebuilt in Yerushalayim and all the gifts and ministry of the Ruach will be in operation alongside the teaching of Torah and the true worship of YHVH during the millennium.

We see the gifts of the Ruach:

1Co 12:7  And to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for profiting,
1Co 12:8  for to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
1Co 12:9  and to another belief by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit,
1Co 12:10  and to another operations of powers, and to another prophecy, and to another discerning of spirits, and to another kinds of tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.
1Co 12:11  But one and the same Spirit works all these, distributing to each one individually as He intends.
1Co 12:12  For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is the Messiah.
1Co 12:13  For indeed by one Spirit we were all immersed into one body, whether Yehuḏim or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink into one Spirit.

The motivational gifts of the Ruach:

Look at the following list of questions to obtain a better idea of your spiritual gifting.

Rom 12:6  Now having different gifts, according to the favour which was given to us, let us use them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of belief;
Rom 12:7  if serving, in the serving; or he who is teaching, in the teaching;
Rom 12:8  or he who encourages, in the encouragement; or he who is sharing, in sincerity; he who is leading, in diligence; he who shows compassion, joyously.

The seven motivational or character gifts are: prophetic, serving, teaching, encouraging, sharer or giver, leading and showing compassion.

These giftings often appear in clusters in our lives and usually one of them tends to dominate and determines what kind of a person we are.

Then the third group of giftings are known as the body gifts - for the up building of the body of Messiah:

Eph 4:11  And He Himself gave some as emissaries, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as shepherds and teachers
Eph 4:12  for the perfecting of the set-apart ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah,
Eph 4:13  until we all come to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the completeness of Messiah,
Eph 4:14  so that we should no longer be children, tossed and borne about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of men, in cleverness, unto the craftiness of leading astray,1 Footnote: 15:6, also 2 Cor. 10:5, 2 Cor. 11:3-14, Gal. 1:6-9, 2 Tim. 3:1-8, 2 Tim. 4:2-4, 2 Peter 2:2-22, Jud. vv. 10-19.
Eph 4:15  but, maintaining the truth in love, we grow up in all respects into Him who is the head, Messiah,

Then we have the fruit of Ruach Ha Kodesh:

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness,
Gal 5:23  gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no Torah. (Means no limit or regulation, as the Torah has its way in us this fruit will begin to show more and more in our lives)

Sadly we have not witnessed a credible operation and manifestation of these gifts and callings in the body of Messiah since the days of the first writings.

The credibility and power of these gifts will once again operate only when the Torah of YHVH is once again embraced and restored as it was by the first Messianic community as the primary instructional manual of how all things work together for the good in YHVH’s kingdom.

The evidence of walking in the Spirit is walking in the righteousness of the Torah.

Exo 31:7  the Tent of Meeting, and the ark of the Witness and the lid of atonement that is on it, and all the utensils of the Tent,
Exo 31:8  and the table and its utensils, and the clean gold lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense,
Exo 31:9  and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand,
Exo 31:10  and the woven garments, and the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest and the garments of his sons, for serving as priests,
Exo 31:11  and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the Set-apart Place. According to all that I have commanded you, they are to do.”

All of the furniture and functioning of the Tabernacle had deep spiritual applications which are becoming more and more clearer in these last days.

Exo 31:12  And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 31:13  “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to guard, by all means, for it is a sign1 between Me and you throughout your generations, to know that I, יהוה, am setting you apart. Footnote: 1The only sign of יהוה setting us apart, the only sign of the everlasting covenant, is His Sabbaths, one of them being the seventh day Sabbath. This is repeated in Ezek. 20:12 & 20.
Exo 31:14  ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who profanes (violates covenant) it shall certainly be put to death, for anyone who does work on it, that being shall be cut off from among his people.

The Hebrew word “yumat” is a hophal verb- Strongs 4191 and means to die prematurely – before your time. It can carry a meaning of a delayed execution and therefore gives an idea that time will be given for repentance before the sentence is carried out.

The Hebrew word for “profane” “machal leya” – Strongs 2490 is also a hophal verb and carries the meaning of an action that is beginning to happen  - literary means “to be begun” in other words if you continue to profane the Sabbath you will surely die and be cut off from YHVHs people.

Is it possible that the spiritual coldness and apathy amongst believers is the result of sustained disobedience to the proper keeping of the Sabbath?

Act 17:30  “Truly, then, having overlooked these times of ignorance, Elohim now commands all men everywhere to repent,
Act 17:31  because He has set a day on which He is going to judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed,1 having given proof of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Footnote: 1See 10:42.

Yahshua teaches: Mar 2:27  And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
Mar 2:28  “So the Son of Aḏam is also Master of the Sabbath.”1 Footnote: 1Mt. 12:8.

The Sabbath was made to bring about man’s perfection.

The bottom line is the Sabbath is the covenant sign between YHVH and Yisrael. YHVH has chosen this covenant sign and Yisrael to be His people.
Many believers in Yahshua believe that Sunday is the covenant sign between YHVH and His people and that the Yisrael has been replaced by the church.
The day is soon coming when this tragic deception will be exposed and many dear believers will find themselves outside of YHVH’s covenant.

Exo 31:15  ‘Six days work is done, and on the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-apart to יהוה. Everyone doing work on the Sabbath day shall certainly be put to death.

Exo 31:16  ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant.
Exo 31:17  ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six days יהוה made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ ”

Finally we see that when people are not reborn and refashioned by the Ruach of YHVH to serve and worship Him according to the Truth – idolatry will inevitably follow.

Exo 31:18  And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the finger of Elohim.
Exo 32:1  And when the people saw that Mosheh was so long in coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aharon, and said to him, “Arise, make us mighty ones who go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim, we do not know what has become of him.”
Exo 32:2  And Aharon said to them, “Take off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”

Exo 32:3  “And all the people took off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.
Exo 32:4  And he took this from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool, and made a moulded calf. And they said, “This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl, that brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!”
Exo 32:5  And Aharon saw and built an altar before it. And Aharon called out and said, “Tomorrow is a festival to יהוה.”
Exo 32:6  And they rose early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Exo 32:7  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Mitsrayim have corrupted themselves.
Exo 32:8  “They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a moulded calf, and have bowed themselves to it and slaughtered to it, and said, ‘This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim!’ ”
Exo 32:9  And יהוה said to Mosheh, “I have seen this people, and see, it is a stiff-necked people!
Exo 32:10  “And now, let Me alone, that My wrath might burn against them and I consume them and I make of you a great nation.”
Exo 32:11  But Mosheh pleaded with יהוה his Elohim, and said, “יהוה, why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with a strong hand?
Exo 32:12  “Why should the Mitsrites speak, and say, ‘For evil He brought them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from the heat of Your wrath, and relent from this evil to Your people.
Exo 32:13  “Remember Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and Yisra’ĕl, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I increase your seed like the stars of the heavens. And all this land that I have spoken of I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”
Exo 32:14  And יהוה relented from the evil which He said He would do to His people.

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”

(Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, Yahweh giver of the Torah – Ameyn
