English translation: Blessed art Thou, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made
us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to actively study Torah.
Please YHVH, our Elohim, sweeten the words of Your Torah in our mouths and in
the mouths of all Your people Israel. May we and our offspring, and the
offspring of Your people, the House of Israel, may we all, together, know Your
Name and study Your Torah for the sake of fulfilling Your desire. Blessed are
You, YHVH, Who teaches Torah to His people Israel. Blessed are You, YHVH our
Elohim, King of the universe, Who chose us from all the nations and gave us the
Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah.
For many years we were led to believe that the Torah
was an interesting history book with some valuable moral lessons.
However today more and more we are coming to realize
that the Torah also reveals the pattern of our future redemption.
May YHVH’s Ruach open our eyes that we may see these
wondrous things in His Torah.
Isa 46:9 “Remember the former events of old,
for I am Ěl, and there is no one else – Elohim, and there is no one like Me,
Isa 46:10 declaring the end from the beginning, and from
of old that which has not yet been done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand,
and all My delight I do,’
Torah Portion:
Lev 8:1 And יהוה spoke to
Mosheh, saying,
According to the sages when the Torah uses the words “va
yedaber YHVH..” instead of “vayomer YHVH..” There is almost a more serious tone
to this kind of speech, possibly a sense of sadness that YHVH has to
communicate more harshly than He would choose to.
When YHVH is creating the world, He uses the Hebrew word
“omer” Here the Torah uses the word “dibar.”
In an alternate Haftarah – Jer 7:21-8:3; 9:22-23 we see
that YHVH is not always pleased with offerings because they simply became
ritual without a heart connection.
Jer 7:21 Thus said יהוה of hosts, the
Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, “Add your burnt offerings to your slaughterings and eat
meat.
Jer 7:22 “For I
did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them
out of the land of Mitsrayim, about matters of burnt offerings or
slaughterings.
Jer 7:23 “But this
word I did command them, saying, ‘Obey My voice,1 and I shall be
your Elohim, and you be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have
commanded you, so that it be well with you.’ Footnote: 1Aḇraham
did so (Gen. 26:5), and יהוה again laid
down this condition for Yisra’ĕl to be His people (Ex. 19:5), and the same
applies to us (Jn. 3:36, Rom. 6:16, Heb. 4:11, Heb. 5:9, Rev. 22:14).
Jer 7:24 “But they did not obey or incline their ear,
but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went
backward and not forward.
At the end of the “seventh day” – after being with Yahshua
for 1000 years, there will be no need for offerings because we won’t need them
because we WILL OBEY the voice of YHVH in all matters perfectly.
Lev 8:2 “Take
Aharon and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and the
bull of the sin offering, and the two rams, and the basket of unleavened bread,
Lev 8:3 and
assemble all the congregation at the door of the Tent of Meeting.”
Moshe here is a type of Messiah – King and High Priest –
performing the inauguration of the priesthood. This same ceremony may very well
be repeated by the Messiah (or Moshe again) in the coming millennium reign of a
restored Levitical priesthood.
I believe it’s possible that Moshe will enjoy the closest
relationship to the Messiah than any other person when Messiah returns.
Deu 18:15 “יהוה your Elohim
shall raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brothers.
Listen to Him,
Yahshua spoke highly of Moshe
Joh 5:45 “Do not think that I shall accuse you to the
Father. There is one who accuses you: Mosheh, in whom you have set your
expectation.
Joh 5:46 “For if you believed Mosheh, you would have
believed Me, since he wrote about Me.
Joh 5:47 “But if you do not believe his writings,1
how shall you believe My words?” Footnote: 1Lk. 9:33, Lk. 16:31,
Mal. 4:4-5.
Stephen was killed
because of his testimony of Moshe.
Act 7:35 “This Mosheh whom they had refused, saying,
‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ – this one Elohim sent to be a ruler and a
deliverer by the hand of the Messenger who appeared to him in the bush.
Act 7:36 “This one led them out, after he had done
wonders and signs in the land of Mitsrayim, and in the Red Sea, and in the
wilderness forty years.
Act 7:37 “This is the Mosheh who said to the children
of Yisra’ĕl, ‘יהוה your Elohim shall raise up for you a
Prophet like me from your brothers. Him you shall hear.’
Act 7:38 “This is he who was in the assembly
in the wilderness with the Messenger who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with
our fathers, who received the living Words to give to us,
Act 7:39 unto whom
our fathers would not become obedient, but thrust away, and in their hearts
they turned back to Mits-rayim,
Act 7:52 “Which of the prophets did your fathers not
persecute? And they killed those who before announced the coming of the Righteous
One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,
Act 7:53 who received the Torah as it was ordained by
messengers, but did not watch over it.”1 Footnote: 1See
Mt. 5:20.
Act 7:54 And hearing this they were cut to the hearts
and gnashed the teeth at him.
Act 7:55 But he, being filled with the Set-apart
Spirit, looked steadily into the heaven and saw the esteem of Elohim, and יהושע standing at
the right hand of Elohim,
Act 7:56 and he
said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Aḏam
standing at the right hand of Elohim!”
Act 7:57 And
crying out with a loud voice, they stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with
one mind,
Act 7:58 and threw
him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments
at the feet of a young man named Sha’ul.
How many Christians were martyred because of the zeal for the Torah and
the witness of Moshe?
It’s difficult for us to imagine such things. However the
principle of mediation will always play a central role for us becoming complete
in all things.
We need to remind ourselves that when Yahshua returns, he
would have spent over 2000 years at the right hand side of YHVH. Yahshua will
be so superior to every other living being on earth, yet he will be intimately
involved with our complete restoration.
The Priesthood will teach us how to walk in the Torah and
become pleasing and obedient to YHVH in all areas of life as Yahshua our
Messiah was.
Lev 8:4 And Mosheh
did as יהוה commanded him, and the congregation was
assembled at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
Lev 8:5 And Mosheh
said to the congregation, “This is the word יהוה commanded to
be done.”
These instructions came directly from YHVH. The entire
congregation was meant to witness their obedient fulfilment as a testimony to
who YHVH was and exactly what He expected from them.
There is a great danger to believe that any of these
words have been done away with.
This inauguration serves as a reminder of its future repetition
and fulfilment.
It is believed that before Adam sinned, he was covered
with the splendour esteem of YHVH and was not aware of his nakedness.
The priestly garments cause us to look forward to a
future time when we will once again be clothed with the esteem of YHVH.
Lev 8:6 So Mosheh
brought Aharon and his sons and washed them with water,
Lev 8:7 and put
the long shirt on him, and girded him with the girdle, and dressed him in the
robe, and put the shoulder garment on him, and girded him with the embroidered
band of the shoulder garment, and with it tied the shoulder garment on him,
Lev 8:8 and put
the breastplate on him, and put the Urim and the Tummim in the breastplate,
Lev 8:9 and put
the turban on his head. And on the turban, on its front, he put the golden
plate, the set-apart sign of dedication, as יהוה had commanded
Mosheh.
Imagine being washed and dressed by someone else? Here is
an important lesson for us. If we are going to be the set apart priesthood YHVH
called us to be – WE WILL NOT BE IN CONTROL OF OUR LIVES – YHVH IS AND THOSE
YHVH SENDS TO US.
Lev 8:10 And
Mosheh took the anointing oil and anointed the Dwelling Place and all that was
in it, and set them apart.
Lev 8:11 And he
sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all
its utensils, and the basin and its base, to set them apart.
Lev 8:12 And he
poured some of the anointing oil on Aharon’s head and anointed him, to set him
apart.
The anointing oil was used to remind them that they were dedicated
to and belonged to YHVH.
Olive oil and the priestly garments have a
connection - The Hebrew word for "oil" is shemen, which is the
root of the Hebrew for "eight," shmoneh.
The High Priest had 8 different garments.
The number 8 has to do with our coming into complete
perfection. The Torah reveals that it will be a set apart priesthood that will
lead us until the “Eighth day” comes.
Lev 8:13 And
Mosheh brought the sons of Aharon and put long shirts on them, and girded them
with girdles, and put turbans on them, as יהוה had commanded
Mosheh.
Lev 8:14 And he
brought the bull for the sin offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands
on the head of the bull for the sin offering,
Lev 8:15 and it
was slaughtered. And Mosheh took the blood, and put some on the horns of the
altar all around with his finger, and cleansed the altar. And he poured the
blood at the base of the altar, and set it apart, to make atonement for it.
Lev 8:16 And he
took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the appendage on the liver, and
the two kidneys with their fat, and Mosheh burned them on the altar.
Lev 8:17 And the
bull, and its skin, and its flesh, and its dung, he burned with fire outside
the camp, as יהוה had commanded
Mosheh.
Lev 8:18 And he
brought the ram of the burnt offering, and Aharon and his sons laid their hands
on the head of the ram,
Lev 8:19 and it
was slaughtered. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the altar all around,
Lev 8:20 and he
cut the ram into pieces. And Mosheh burned the head, and the pieces, and the
fat,
Lev 8:21 and he
washed the entrails and the legs in water. And Mosheh burned the entire ram on
the altar. It was a burnt offering for a sweet fragrance, and an offering made
by fire to יהוה, as יהוה had commanded Mosheh.
Lev 8:22 And he
brought the second ram, the ram of ordination, and Aharon and his sons laid
their hands on the head of the ram,
Lev 8:23 and it
was slaughtered. And Mosheh took some of its blood and put it on the tip of
Aharon’s right ear, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of
his right foot.
Lev 8:24 And he
brought near the sons of Aharon, and Mosheh put some of the blood on the tips
of their right ears, and on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big
toes of their right feet. And Mosheh sprinkled the blood on the altar all
around,
Lev 8:25 and took
the fat and the fat tail, and all the fat that was on the entrails, and the
appendage on the liver, and the two kidneys and their fat, and the right thigh,
Lev 8:26 and from
the basket of unleavened bread that was before יהוה he took one
unleavened cake, and a cake of bread anointed with oil, and one thin cake, and
put them on the fat and on the right thigh,
Lev 8:27 and
placed all these in the hands of Aharon and in the hands of his sons, and waved
them as a wave offering before יהוה.
Lev 8:28 Mosheh
then took them from their hands and burned them on the altar, on the burnt
offering. They were ordinations for a sweet fragrance. It was an offering by
fire to יהוה.
Lev 8:29 And
Mosheh took the breast and waved it, a wave offering before יהוה. It was Mosheh’s portion of the ram of
ordination, as יהוה had commanded
Mosheh.
Lev 8:30 And
Mosheh took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood which was on the
altar, and sprinkled it on Aharon, on his garments, and on his sons, and on the
garments of his sons with him. And he set apart Aharon, his garments, and his
sons, and the garments of his sons with him.
Lev 8:31 And
Mosheh said to Aharon and his sons, “Cook the flesh at the door of the Tent of
Meeting, and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket of the
ordinations, as I have commanded, saying, ‘Aharon and his sons are to eat it.’
Lev 8:32 “Then
burn the rest of the flesh and the bread with fire.
Lev 8:33 “And do
not go outside the door of the Tent of Meeting for seven days, until the days
of your ordination are completed – for he fills your hands for seven days.
Lev 8:34 “יהוה has commanded to do, as he has done this
day, to make atonement for you.
Lev 8:35 “And stay
at the door of the Tent of Meeting day and night for seven days. And you shall
guard the duty of יהוה, and not die,
for so I have been commanded.”
Lev 8:36 And
Aharon and his sons did all the words that יהוה had commanded
by the hand of Mosheh.
Messiah’s work is finished – our work is not yet
finished. Yet in the Seventh day or Seventh Millennium, we will not strive to
work out our redemption because it will be worked out in us as we walk and obey
those who have been placed in authority over us. This Priesthood will never
deceive us.
Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheynu,
Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chay-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu.
Baruch atah YHVH, noteyn ha-Torah. Ameyn.”
(Blessed are you Yahweh, our Elohim, King of the
Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting
life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Ameyn
