Parashat 55 Portion 8 ‘’Ha azinu’’ Deut 32:16-28 & Rev 6:1-17

Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah – Amein.

Summary Song of Mosheh/Moses:

Line 1 – Moses calls Heaven and earth witness to the truth of the Song of Moses.

Line 2 – This truth was YHVH’s Torah, sown and nourished in the hearts of His people.

Line 3 – Fallen Elohim (false mighty ones)  also sowed their religious seeds opposing the Torah, in men’s hearts.

Line 4 – Our only hope against this religious ‘’mixed seed’’ was by calling on the name of YHVH.

Line 5 – YHVH appointed Messiah to restore truth in the midst of this religious corruption

Line 6 – Messiah is the only man who was morally upright and righteous to achieve this task.

Line 7 - Messiah achieved this task by taking our corruption upon himself.

Line 8 – In spite of Messiah’s great sacrifice for us, we treated him badly

Line 9 – This was the price He was willing to pay for our restoration.

Line 10 – From ancient times this was always YHVH’s plan to redeem us.

Line 11 – Our wise prophets and elders confirmed to us that this was His plan to restore us.

Line 12 – When this corruption entered, mankind got divided into nations.

Line 13 – YHVH portioned these nations to be controlled by various elohim or mighty ones

Line 14- YHVH separated Israel for Himself.

Line 15 – Israel was birthed as a nation in a barren wilderness.

Line 16 – YHVH embraced Israel as they were precious in His sight.

Line 17 – YHVH’s presence hovered over them, and He guarded them.

Line 18 – YHVH carried them on His Wings through the wilderness.

Line 19 – YHVH alone cared for them and guided them.

Line 20- YHVH elevated them spiritually and cared for them physically.

Line 21 – YHVH blessed Israel with honey and olive oil in the wilderness.

Line 22- YHVH provided fermented cheese and milk from the flocks.

Line 23 – Also, the finest goats and wheat.

Line 24 – They drank quality wine; however, some of His favoured people became ungrateful.

Line 25 – These ungrateful people became more appalling to Him and He forsook them.

Line 26 – Israel scorned His kindness and provoked Him with strange matters.

Line 27 – They provoked Him with disgusting things even offering sacrifices to demons.

24. And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes. (vs14)

Deuteronomy 32:14 -15 marks a dramatic turning point in the Song of Moses. It shifts the tone from YHVH's goodness and care to judgment because of Israel’s rebellion, corruption, idolatry, and resulting judgment.

The puzzle of the Song of Moses is now becoming clearer. As we approach the last days there seems to be three distinct groups:

a)        Those who escape the great tribulation in the wilderness – a very small remnant.

b)       The masses who enter the great tribulation that need to repent –

c)   The masses who enter and refuse to repent.

24 (b) Dev 32:15 “But Yeshurun (His chosen ones) grew fat and kicked; (rebelled)

It is this ungrateful spirit, not recognizing our spiritual condition, that may well cause the separation between sheep and sheep in YHVH’s end time flock. Ez 34:17

A poetic name for Israel, used only four times (Deut 32:15, 33:5, 33:26; Isa 44:2). Even in the great tribulation YHVH still loves His people.

25. thou didst wax fat, thou didst grow thick, thou didst become gross

.שָׁמַנְתָּ עָבִיתָ כָּשִׂיתָ; fat overweight and gross – a disgusting state.

"Growing fat" not a blessing but a warning — Israel(believers) have been blessed richly, but instead of responding with gratitude, they become spiritually indifferent and rebellious.

Together, they portray a picture of self-indulgence, spiritual dullness, and moral decline. "Thick" here likely refers not just to body but to a hardened or insensitive spiritual state — echoing the idea of a "fat heart" that no longer feels or responds (cf. Isaiah 6:10).

Isa 6:10  “Make the heart of this people fat, and their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and shall turn and be healed.”

25(b) So he forsook Eloah who made him,

He abandoned Elohim who made him.

26.And scorned the Rock of his deliverance – or he disgraced the rock of his ‘yeshuato’

Heb. “va yin a bel” to treat with contempt.

26(b) Dev 32:16 “They moved Him to jealousy with foreign matters,

יַקְנִאֻהוּ, בְּזָרִים;

27.With abominations they provoked Him.

תּועבה - disgusting things

27(b)Dev 32:17 “They slaughtered to demons – not Eloah

The deceived ‘’Yeshrun’’ continued their path of spiritual destruction, convinced they were worshipping YHVH, when in fact they were worshipping demons – the height of deception.

28. Mighty ones they did not know,

אֱלֹהִים, לֹא יְדָעוּם;

28(b) New ones who came lately,

New חֲדָשִׁים  demonic strongholds – pleasure, prosperity and perverted spirituality.

29.Which your fathers did not fear.

לֹא שְׂעָרוּם אֲבֹתֵיכֶם – they were not horrified שְׂעָרוּם  by them.

*29(b) Dev 32:18 “You neglected the Rock who brought you forth.

Now this song has been sung to those who neglected and rejected the ‘’true’’ Messiah.

“Tzur yaladecha teshi” the rock which birthed, you neglected or “Teshi”(with a dimished yud)

See chumash p 1104 the fifth line from the top. This word has been emphasized and it has a yud which is half way down from its normal position. Why? Is it speaking of Messiah?

30. And forgot  (shâkach) the Ěl who fathered  חיל you

“And you forgot (שָׁכַח) the El who fathered you with strength (חִיל)”

While חִיל (chiyl) usually means strength, might, or even birth pangs, in this poetic context, it's tied to birthing or generating

30(b) Dev 32:19 “And יהוה saw, and he was despised, ‘’nâ'ats’’ –

31Because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters.

His own sons and daughters have provoked and vexed  כַּעַשׂ Him.

31(b) Dev 32:20 “And He said, ‘Let Me hide סָתַר  My face from them, סָתַר – future tense cohortative verb to emphasize the verb.

Isa 8:17  And I shall wait on יהוה, who hides His face from the house of Ya‛aqo. And I shall look for Him.

32. Let Me see what their (latter)end is,

32(b) For they are a perverse generation,

Hebrew – “they turn things upside down” – תַּהְפֻּכָה – overturn or pervert

 33. Children in whom there is no trusting. (faithfulness)

*33(b) Dev 32:21 “They made Me jealous by what is not Ěl,

Note “El” also has a “tittel” in the scroll.

In the Torah sefer this “El” has a tittel over it ie  Moshe is drawing our attention to a hidden meaning – This Elohim was not Him. Could this be a possible reference to ‘’Jesus worship, instead of YHVH worship’’?

34. They provoked Me with their worthless matters.

Religious men provoked YHVH with their emptiness.

They have roused Me to jealousy with a no-god – the idolatry and disrespect for YHVH just continued.

35. I provoke them with a foolish nation -

Rom 11:14  if somehow I might provoke to jealousy Deu_32:21 those who are my flesh and save some of them.

35(b) Dev 32:22 “For a fire was kindled in My wrath

36. And burns to the bottom of She’ol,

36(b) And consumes the earth and its increase,

37. And sets on fire the foundations of mountains.

YHVH’s anger not as emotional outburst, but as righteous, consuming judgment.

A fire that:

  • Burns down to Sheol = total spiritual and physical judgment.
  • Devours earth and produce = economic and ecological collapse.
  • Scorches mountain foundations = cosmic, structural upheaval - nothing is untouched by YHVH’s wrath.

37(b) Deu 32:23 “I gather (accumulate) evils upon them,

38. I use up My arrows upon them –

I will exhaust my arrows in them

YHVH’s judgment and destruction will not stop until every arrogant and disobedient voice is destroyed.

38(b) Dev 32:24 “Wasted by scarcity of food, And consumed by heat and (bitter destruction – in next line)

They will be sucked and burnt out

39. bitter destruction,

Heb – the destruction that brings bitterness.

39(b) And the teeth of beasts I send upon them,

They will be ripped to pieces.

40. With the poison of serpents of the dust.

Heb – “im chamat zochlei afar” the rage of the enemy will cause you to want to disappear forever, but it will not happen.

40(b) Deu 32:25 “The sword bereaves from the outside,

Or makes barren, not being able to produce anything worthwhile

41. And fear from within,

Horror from your innermost chambers

41(b)  Both young man and maiden,

42. Nursing child with the man of grey hairs.

From a sucking infant to an old man, no one excluded.

42(b) Deu 32:26 “I said, ‘I should blow them away,

Heb - They shall be scattered in pieces.

43. I should eradicate from men the remembrance of them vs 26

43(b) To cease from among men,

44. Dev 32:27 ‘If I did not fear the enemy’s taunt, Lest their adversaries misunderstand,

Vs 27 Were it not that I dreaded the enemy's provocation

44(b) Lest they say, “Our hand is high,

45. And יהוה has not done all this.”

45(b) Dev 32:28 “For they are a nation lost to counsel,

This destruction and devastation seem to just carry on and on but we must remember, this song ends with hope and restoration (v.36–43)
