Blessed are You, YHVH our Elohim, King of the universe, who has made us set apart through His commandments and commanded us to engross ourselves in the words of the Torah. Blessed are You, YHVH, Giver of the Torah – Amein.
45(b) Dev
32:28 “For they are a nation lost (lost, perishing away - אֹבַד ) to
counsel,
עֵצוֹת, הֵמָּה;
The nation forsakes
the divine counsel (Torah, prophets, wise instruction). By doing this,
they destroy the very thing that gives them life, direction, and preservation.
Paul speaks of a
coming great apostasy (2 Thess. 2), where nations and religious institutions abandon
truth and exalt lawlessness. The spirit that resists divine counsel
is deeply prophetic:
- 2
Thessalonians 2:10–11 – “They
refused the love of the truth... for this reason YHVH sends them a strong
delusion...”
46. And there is no
understanding in them. Vs 28
(bin) – to discern, perceive, separate mentally.
46(b) Dev 32:29 “If they were wise,
They would understand this, יַשְׂכִּילוּ
– a conditional particle, if only לוּ
47. They
would consider their latter end!
47(b) Dev 32:30 “How would one chase
a thousand,..
This is a cry of astonishment,
often used in lament (e.g., Lamentations 1:1 begins with Eichah).
It signals that what follows is unnatural—something that should not happen under normal circumstances.
“One chasing a thousand”
·
A single enemy soldier causes a thousand of
Israelites to flee.
·
This is the reverse of what YHVH had
promised Israel:
Leviticus 26:8 – “Five of you shall chase a
hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand...”
Joshua 23:10 – “One man of you puts to flight a thousand, because YHVH
fights for you.”
Israel’s Defeat is Not Natural – It’s Divine Judgment.
48. And two put ten thousand
to flight,
This reversal of divine favor is so supernaturally
extreme that it demands an explanation. And the answer is in the second
half of the verse:
“…unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given
them up.”
48(b) Unless their Rock had sold
them,
This may be the darkest moment in the Song of Mosheh/Moses
Deut 32:30 – (in the history of all believers)
Rev
13:7 And it was given to him to fight with the set-apart ones and to
overcome them. And authority was given to him over every tribe and tongue and
nation.
Dan
7:21 “I was looking, and this horn was fighting against the set-apart
ones, and was prevailing against them, Dan 7:22 until the Ancient of
Days came, and right-ruling was given to the set-apart ones of the Most High,
and the time came and the set-apart ones took possession of the reign.
49.
And יהוה had
given them up?
And YHVH handed
them over / gave them up.” (9th Av)
Romans 1:24, 26,
28 – “Therefore YHVH gave them up...” — the same spiritual pattern
applied to Gentile nations: rejection of truth → handed over to impurity and
deception.
49(b) Dev 32:31 “For their rock is
not like our Rock –
Even Israel’s enemies recognize the difference— the
enemies were shocked that YHVH could hand over Israel to the power of their
enemies – if so what could YHVH do to Israel’s enemies?
50 Even
our enemies ôyêb – אויב are judges פְּלִילִים or intercessors- vs 32
50(b) Deu 32:32 “Their vine גּפן is of the vine of Seḏom – vine of them גַּפְנָם
The moral root system ("vine") of the enemy is totally corrupt – yet they are appointed to judge Israel.
51. And of the fields of
Amorah;
Moses continues
to amplify the enemy’s corruption.
51(b) Their grapes are grapes of gall,
- רֹאשׁ poison
52. Their
clusters are bitter.
intensifies the metaphor of moral corruption.
52(b) Dev 32:33 “Their wine is the
poison of serpents,
53. And the fierce venom of cobras.
venom here — something hidden but deadly -
53(b) Dev 32:34 ‘Is it not stored up
with Me, YHVH
54. Sealed up among My
treasures?
YHVH has
an inexhaustible supply of this venom ready to destroy His people.
This judgment was held back vs 32-33 but now it will be
released.
54(b) Dev 32:35 ‘Vengeance is Mine,
and repayment,
לִי נָקָם וְשִׁלֵּם; - to me is vengeance and restitution
one of the most quoted verses in both Jewish and Christian
theology, especially on divine justice and vengeance.
55. At the time their foot slips;
When our
‘’feet begin to slip’’ is the sign that we are not able to stand any longer unless
help comes. Judgment is now inevitable; the worst is about to happen.
55(b) For near is the day of their
calamity,
אֵידָם (in the sense of bending down); oppression; by implication misfortune, ruin: - calamity, destruction.
56. And the matters prepared
are hastening to them.
quick, hasty, coming swiftly -עֲתִידֹת
– future things, what lies ahead - לָמוֹ– for them
56(b) Dev 32:36 “For יהוה rightly
rules His people
After the warnings of vengeance (v.35), verse 36 reveals
that YHWH’s justice includes compassion, especially when His people are
crushed and helpless.
57. And
has compassion on His servants,
“And will have compassion on His servants”
57(b) When He sees that their power is
gone,
58 . And
there is no one remaining, Shut up or at large.
A poetic way to say: Everyone is helpless, no one
can help them.
58(b) Dev 32:37 “And He shall say,
‘Where are their mighty ones, (idols)
YHVH speaks in ironic judgment, turning the people's
idolatry back on them. After showing mercy in verse 36, He now exposes the
futility of trusting false gods during crisis.
59. The rock in whom they
sought refuge.
The rock in whom they sought refuge”
59(b) Dev 32:38 ‘Who ate the fat of
their slaughtering,
“Where are those gods (idols) you honoured with your
offerings? Why aren't they helping now?”
You thought you were honouring YHVH but you were not – you
replaced YHVH with your vain imaginations of who He is, was and will be forever
and ever.
60. And
drank the wine of their drink offering?
Again, sarcastic: If your gods were real, they should
have accepted your wine offerings and now be helping to you.
60(b) Let them arise and help you,
“You worshiped them—now call on them in your time of crisis.
Will they answer?”
61. Let
it be a hiding-place for you!
“Let them be your shelter”
“Let your idols protect you—if they can.”
61(b) Dev 32:39 ‘See now that I, I
am He,
“See now that I, I am He, and there is no god besides Me; I
put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I heal; and there is no
one who can deliver out of My hand.”
עִמָּדִי;
Re’u attah ki ani ani hu, v’ein elohim immadi; ani amit va’achayeh, maḥatzti va’ani erpa, v’ein
miyadi matzil.
Deuteronomy 32:39, one of the most powerful declarations
of YHVH's absolute sovereignty in the entire Scriptures. After mocking the
false gods in verses 37–38, YHVH now speaks with divine authority, asserting
that He alone is YHVH, and He alone has power over life, death, and destiny.
This is the supreme
reality in heaven and on earth. YHVH is making Himself perfectly clear to us by
stating – ‘’you cannot, you must not ever try to create another version of Me’’
A pivot point in the song — moving from rebuke to the hope
of redemption through God's mercy and unmatched authority
62. And
there is no Elohim besides Me.
62(b) I put to death and I make alive.
63. I have wounded, and I heal.
63(b) And from My hand no one
delivers!
64. Dev 32:40 ‘For I lift My
hand to the heavens,
YHVH makes a solemn, irrevocable oath — lifting His
hand to the heavens and swearing by Himself.
64(b) And shall say: As I live
forever,
swear by My own eternal life…”
65. Dev 32:41 If I have
sharpened My flashing sword,
YHVH reveals what follows after His solemn oath in verse 40:
the execution of justice. The imagery now shifts to the sharp,
flashing sword — a powerful symbol of divine vengeance against His enemies.
65(b) And My hand takes hold on
judgment,
An upraised
hand with a sword (repeated twice) in it speaks of an eminent, severe and total
judgment.
66. I shall return
vengeance to My enemies,
I will repay vengeance to My adversaries”
66(b) And repay those who hate Me.
And I will
repay those who hate Me”
How does one hate YHVH? - Rom 8:7 Because the mind of the flesh is
enmity (Gk-hatred) towards Elohim, for it does not subject itself to the Torah
of Elohim, neither indeed is it able, Rom 8:8 and those who are in
the flesh are unable to please Elohim.
67. Dev 32:42 I
make My arrows drunk with blood,
When YHVH’s arrows drink so much blood, they’re drunk
with it. It's a metaphor for the complete defeat of His enemies.
67(b) And My sword devours flesh,
68. With the blood of the
slain and the captives,
68(b) From the long-haired enemy
chiefs.
even the highest-ranking enemies are struck down
69. Deu 32:43 “O nations,
acclaim His people *****
גוֹיִם עַמּוֹ Shout out for joy הַרְנִינוּ the nations of Him
Should
read “Let all the messengers of Elohim do reverence to Him.”
In
Heb 1:6 And when He again brings the first-born into the world, He says,
“Let all the messengers of Elohim do reverence to Him.”
Heb 1:6
bow down (worship) to Him (Yahshua) all you Elohim.
“Let all
the messengers of Elohim do reverence to Him.” is not found in the Masoretic
text (500CE).
Explanation:
4 Q is a
reference to the Dead Sea Scroll which shows that the Masoretic text which we
now use, was tampered with to hide direct references to the Messiah.
69(b) For He avenges נקם the blood of His servants
70. And
returns vengeance to His adversaries, צר his oppressors vs 43
70(b) And shall pardon His land, His
people.”
And He will atone for His land and His people”
Heb –
and a proprietary shelter (כִפֶּר kipper) will be found in the land
of His people.
Perhaps
referring to the day of Yom Kippur.
This is
where the 70 th line of the two columns stop. (Perhaps a reference to a future
Yom ha kippurim)
Deu 32:44 Then Mosheh came, with Hoshěa son of Nun,
and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.
Deu 32:45 And when Mosheh ended speaking all these
words to all Yisra’ěl,
Deu 32:46 he said to them, “Set your heart on all
the words with which I warn you today, so that you command your children to
guard to do all the Words of this Torah.
Deu 32:47 “For it is not a worthless Word for you,
because it is your life, and by this Word you prolong your days on the soil
which you pass over the Yarděn to possess.”
