Parashat 6 (Toldot) Portion 25 Ber/Gen 27:1-29 Yesh/Is 46:3-11 1Sam 4:15 – 5:1-+6:14 Heb 11:17-22

Blessed are you, YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have selected us from among all the peoples, and have given us your Torah. Blessed are you, YHVH, giver of the Torah. Amein.

Isa 46:3  “Listen to Me, O house of Ya‛aqoḇ, and all the remnant of the house of Yisra’ěl, who are borne from the belly, who are carried from the womb: Isa 46:4  even to your old age, I am He, and even to grey hairs I carry! I have made and I bear, and I carry and rescue. Isa 46:5  “To whom do you liken Me, and compare Me and make Me similar, that we should be alike? Isa 46:9  “Remember the former events of old, for I am Ěl, and there is no one else – Elohim, and there is no one like Me, Isa 46:10  declaring the end from the beginning, and from of old that which has not yet been done, saying, ‘My counsel does stand, and all My delight I do,’ Isa 46:11  calling a bird of prey from the east, the man who executes My counsel, from a distant land. Indeed I have spoken it, I also bring it to pass. I have planned it, I also do it. Isa 46:12  “Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted, who are far from righteousness: Isa 46:13  “I shall bring My righteousness near, it is not far off, and My deliverance, it is not delayed. And I shall give deliverance in Tsiyon, My esteem to Yisra’ěl.

ויהי כי זקן …and he is becoming old… “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.”

Gen 27:1  And it came to be,
when Yitsḥaq was old and his eyes were too dim to see, that he called Ěsaw his elder son and said to him, “My son.” And he answered him, “Here I am.”

Gen 27:2  And he said, “See now, I am old, I do not know the day of my death.

Last week we extolled the virtues of the Patriarchs – they dug wells, built altars and pitched their tents. They opened for us the wells and ways of the ancient paths.

This week we see that even these great men lied and displayed a short-sightedness and lack of discernment …. “was old and his eyes were too dim to see” may reveal a lack of spiritual insight. Yitschak thought he was about to die but would only die about 50 years later – Gen 35:28 -  Moshe was an exception.

Deu 34:7  And Mosheh was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his freshness gone.

Isa 42:18  “Hear, you deaf! And look, you blind, and see. Isa 42:19  “Who is blind but My servant, or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is at peace, and blind as servant of יהוהIsa 42:20  “You see much, but do not guard; ears are open, but do not hear.” Isa 42:21  It has delighted יהוה, for the sake of His righteousness, to make the Torah great and esteemed. (‘’hearing’’ and ‘’seeing’’ are inseparable from the righteousness of Torah) Isa 42:22  But this is a people robbed and plundered, all of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prison houses. They have become a prey, with no one to deliver – for plunder, and no one to say, “Restore!” Isa 42:23  Who among you gives ear to this, pays attention and hears for the time to come? Isa 42:24  Who gave Ya‛aqoḇ for plunder, and Yisra’ěl to the robbers? Was it not יהוה, He against whom we sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, and they did not obey His Torah! Isa 42:25  So He has poured on him His burning displeasure and the strength of battle, and it set him on fire all around, yet he did not understand. And it burned against him, yet he did not take it to heart!

The Word of YHVH was clear, it was Yakov and not Esav that was to receive the birth right blessing.

Gen 25:23  And יהוה said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body. And one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older serve the younger.”

So was Yitzchak really deceived or did he really know what he was saying? Heb 11:20  By belief, Yitsḥaq blessed Yaʽaqoḇ and Ěsaw concerning that which was to come.

If we study the history of the descendants of both brothers, we will see both blessing and curses came from their descendants – Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Both good and evil has characterized the descendants of both brothers and will fully revealed in the last days.

Rom 9:13  as it has been written, “Yaʽaqoḇ I have loved, but Ěsaw I have hated.”

Oba 1:18  “And the house of Yaʽaqoḇ shall be a fire, and the house of Yosĕph a flame, but the house of Ěsaw for stubble. And they shall burn among them and they shall consume them, so that no survivor is left of the house of Ěsaw.” For יהוה has spoken.

Gen 27:3  “Now then, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt wild game for me.

Gen 27:4  “And make me a tasty dish, such as I love, and bring it to me to eat, in order that my being does bless you before I die.”

Gen 27:5  And Riḇqah heard when Yitsḥaq spoke to Ěsaw his son. And Ěsaw went to the field to hunt wild game and to bring it.

Gen 27:6  And Riḇqah spoke to Yaʽaqoḇ her son, saying, “See, I heard your father speak to Ěsaw your brother, saying,

Gen 27:7  ‘Bring me wild game and make me a tasty dish to eat, and bless you in the presence of יהוה before my death.’

Gen 27:8  “And now my son, listen to my voice according to what I command you.

Gen 27:9  “Please go to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, and I make a tasty dish from them for your father, such as he loves.

Gen 27:10  “And you shall take it to your father, and he shall eat it, so that he might bless you before his death.”

Gen 27:11  And Yaʽaqoḇ said to Riḇqah his mother, “See, Ěsaw my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth-skinned man.

Gen 27:12  “What if my father touches me? Then I shall be like a deceiver in his eyes, and shall bring a curse on myself and not a blessing.”

Gen 27:13  But his mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.” (We see Rivka like Yitzchak are trying to help YHVH out of this ‘’difficult’’ situation)

Gen 27:14  And he went and fetched them and brought them to his mother, and his mother made a tasty dish, such as his father loved.

Gen 27:15  And Riḇqah took the best(‘’hachemudot’’) garments(coveted garment ‘’chamad’’) of her elder son Ěsaw, which were with her in the house, and put them on Yaʽaqoḇ her younger son.

Gen 27:16  And she put the skins of the young goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.

Gen 27:17  Then she gave the tasty dish and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Yaʽaqoḇ.

Gen 27:18  And he went to his father and said, “My father.” And he said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”

Gen 27:19  And Yaʽaqoḇ said to his father, “I am Ěsaw your first-born, I have done as you said to me. Please rise, sit and eat of my wild game, so that your being might bless me.”

Gen 27:20  But Yitsḥaq said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?” And he said, “Because יהוה your Elohim brought it to me.”

Gen 27:21  Then Yitsḥaq said to Yaʽaqoḇ, “Please come near, so that I feel you, my son, whether you truly are my son Ěsaw or not.”

Gen 27:22  And Yaʽaqoḇ went near to Yitsḥaq his father, and he felt him and said, “The voice is the voice of Yaʽaqoḇ, but the hands are the hands of Ěsaw.”

Gen 27:23  And he did not recognise him, for his hands were hairy like his brother Ěsaw’s hands, and he blessed him.

Gen 27:24  And he said, “Are you truly my son Ěsaw?” And he said, “I am.”

Gen 27:25  And he said, “Bring it near to me, and let me eat of my son’s wild game, so that my being might bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate. And he brought him wine, and he drank.

Gen 27:26  And his father Yitsḥaq said to him, “Please come near and kiss me, my son.”

Gen 27:27  And he came near and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him and said, “See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which יהוה has blessed.

Gen 27:28  And Elohim give you of the dew of the heavens, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine. (Note the blessing begins with blessings from heaven)

Gen 27:29  Let peoples serve you, and nations(he) bow down to you. Be master over(nations and) your brothers, and let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you!”

This blessing comprises 26 words (gematria of YHVH) FOR BOTH BROTHERS – SEE VS 39-40. The Torah has many hidden mysteries and secrets – this is one.

The original text would read “and he shall bow down himself” (veyishtachu) they add another vav to make the word “veyashtechu u” which means “they shall bow down themselves”

This conveys the idea that ‘’he’’ (possibly Esav who represents false religions) will bow before Yakov. This may be connected to Revelation 3:9 where it speaks of deceived believers bowing down before the true believers in the end times.

Rev 3:9  “See, I am giving up those of the congregation of Satan, who say they are Yehuḏim and are not, but lie. See, I am making them come and worship before(in view of) your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

Gen 27:38  And Ěsaw said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, me too, O my father!” And Ěsaw lifted up his voice and wept.

Gen 27:39  And Yitsḥaq his father answered and said to him, “See, your dwelling is of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of the heavens from above.

Gen 27:40  And by your sword you are to live, and serve your brother. And it shall be, when you grow restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.”

These two blessing over these two people have so deeply embedded themselves in the lives and minds of humanity and they are about to bring about the complete end to our current civilization as we know it.

Jer 30:4  And these are the words יהוה spoke concerning Yisra’ěl and Yehuḏah. Jer 30:5  “For this is what יהוה said, ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Jer 30:6  Ask now, and see if a man is giving birth. Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labour, and all faces turned pale? Jer 30:7  Oh! For great is that day, there is none like it. And it is the time of Ya‛aqoḇ’s distress, but he shall be saved out of it. Jer 30:8  And it shall be in that day, ’declares יהוה of hosts,‘ that I break his yoke from your neck, and tear off your bonds, and foreigners no more enslave them. Jer 30:9  And they shall serve יהוה their Elohim and Dawiḏ their sovereign, whom I raise up for them. Jer 30:10  And you, do not fear, O Ya‛aqoḇ My servant,’ declares יהוה, ‘nor be discouraged, O Yisra’ěl. For look, I am saving you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity. And Ya‛aqoḇ shall return, and have rest and be at ease, with no one to trouble him. Jer 30:11  For I am with you,’ declares יהוה, ‘to save you. Though I make a complete end of all nations[a] where I have scattered you, yet I do not make a complete end of you. But I shall reprove you in judgment, and by no means leave you unpunished.’ Footnote: aSee Jer_46:28, Isa_34:2, Isa_45:17, Dan_2:44, Amo_9:8, Hag_2:22. Jer 30:12  “For thus said יהוה, ‘Your breach is incurable, your wound is grievous. Jer 30:13  No one pleads your cause, to bind up. There are no healing medicines for you.

Extract from the book of Yasher:

27:11 And Esau took those garments (possibly Adams garments that were passed down) and ran into the city on account of Nimrod's men, and he came unto his father's house wearied and exhausted from fight, and he was ready to die through grief when he approached his brother Jacob and sat before him.

16 And the days that Nimrod reigned upon the people of the land were one hundred and eighty-five years; and Nimrod died by the sword of Esau in shame and contempt, and the seed of Abraham caused his death as he had seen in his dream. End quote.

For example, in a Midrash found in a Yemenite collection, and published in the Torah Sheleima (vol., p. 1399, #50), we read:

כתנת פסים – הכתונת שעשה הקב”ה לאדם ולעזרו היא שלקחה עשו מנמרוד, והיא בגדי עשו החמודות שלבש יעקב בשעת הברכה.

The ornamented tunic – this is the same tunic which the Holy One, blessed be He, made for Adam and his partner. It is this same tunic which Esau took from Nimrod, and these are the coveted garments of Esau that Jacob wore when he received [Isaac’s] blessing. (Coveted garment of treachery)

If this is true, it confirms the idea of two parallel priesthoods. They are both very similar and difficult to distinguish. They both appear to have profound similarities but also profound differences.  Will the last days once again be a battle about a contested priesthood birthright – Esav or Yaqov? Many today believe and claim that they are the genuine called out spiritual representation of YHVH for the nations, but who has been given the priesthood by YHVH?

Jer 33:17  “For thus said יהוה, ‘For Dawiḏ there is not to cease a man to sit on the throne of the house of Yisra’ěl. Jer 33:18  And for the priests, the Lěwites, there is not to cease a man to offer ascending offerings before Me, to kindle grain offerings, and to slaughter continually.’ ” (Ez 44:15)

Baruch atah YHVH, Eloheinu, Melech ha-‘Olam, asher natan lanu Toraht-emet, v’chai-yeh o’lam nata-b’tochenu. Baruch atah YHVH, notein ha-Torah. Amein.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth, and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.
