Parashat 4 Portion 17 ‘’Vayera’’ Gen 21:1-34 Is 1:1-27

Psa 119:18/19  Please open our eyes YHVH that we might see hidden and wonderful truths in Your Torah. Father we are strangers and sojourners here on earth, please do not hide the council of your Torah from us.

Blessed are those to whom You have shown mercy to walk in Your Torah of truth in loving kindness and obedience. Amein.

ויהוה פקד

The Talmud (Rosh Hashanah 10b–11a) teaches: Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah were all “remembered” by YHVH on Yom Teruah.

This day is associated with miraculous births that change history, the Messiah is expected to bring the ultimate historical transformation, later Jewish thought links his arrival to the same appointed time – Yom Teruah.

Just as Adam (Yom teruah) marked the beginning of human history, the Messiah marks the renewal of human destiny –

The Birth of Isaac

Gen 21:1  And יהוה visited (ויהוה פקד) Sarah as He had said, and יהוה did for Sarah as He had spoken.

Gen 21:2  So Sarah conceived and bore Araham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which Elohim had spoken to him.

Gen 21:3  And Araham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Yitsaq.

Gen 21:4  And Araham circumcised his son Yitsaq when he was eight days old, as Elohim had commanded him.

Gen 21:5  And Araham was one hundred years old when his son Yitsaq was born to him.

Gen 21:6  And Sarah said, “Elohim has made me laugh, and everyone who hears of it laughs with me.”

Gen 21:7  And she said, “Who would have said to Araham that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

YHVH Protects Hagar and Ishmael

Gen 21:8  And the child grew and was weaned, and Araham made a great feast on the day that Yitsaq was weaned.

‘’Weaning symbolized the child's emerging independence and entry into a new stage of life. The Hebrew verb gamal (translated as "wean") literally means "to complete" or "deal fully with," encompassing the full period of nursing and early care. Once weaned, a child was often considered mature enough for certain responsibilities or separations from the mother.

For instance, in 1 Samuel 1, Hannah weaned her son Samuel (likely around age 3) before dedicating him to service at the tabernacle in Shiloh, bringing offerings as part of the occasion.’’

Gen 21:9  And Sarah saw the son of Haar the Mitsrian, whom she had borne to Araham, mocking. (Ishmael - rejection and rivalry over birthright) 1Sam 16:6-7

"And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me." (Matthew 11:6)

YHVH offends the mind to reveal what is in our hearts.

The word “mocking” in Hebrew is “metzachek” and appears as a “piel participle” verb -“to mock” or treat with contempt. This Hebrew word ‘’metzachek’’ first used when Yisrael committed the sin of the golden calf also implies being sexually perverse - Exo 32:6  And they rose early on the next day, and offered ascending offerings, and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.(Heb litzachek)

Gen 21:10  So she said to Araham, “Drive out this female servant and her son, for the son of this female servant shall not inherit with my son, with Yitsaq.”

Principle of separation to protect the promised seed.

Hegg’s Main Theological Conclusions about Hagar

1.      Hagar is never “cast out of the covenant.” She and Ishmael are sent away from the inheritance of the land and the messianic seed-line, but the covenant promises made to them (great nation, 12 princes, blessing) remain in full force. Circumcision continues in Ishmael’s descendants (Gen 17:23–27 shows Abraham circumcised his entire household, including Ishmaelites).

2.      Ishmael is a circumcised covenant member. Hegg repeatedly stresses that Ishmael received the sign of the covenant before Isaac was even born and 13 years before Isaac received it. This is decisive proof (in Hegg’s view) that the sign (circumcision) does not equal “being the seed of promise” or “being Jewish.” It simply marks covenant membership.

3.      Hagar prefigures Gentile inclusion. Hegg sees Hagar (an Egyptian) as the first Gentile covenant member by faith and divine encounter. She believes the word of the messenger, names YHVH, and returns in submission — all while still a slave. This becomes a type of how Gentiles later enter the same Abrahamic covenant without having to become physical descendants of Isaac/Jacob.

4.      The expulsion (Gen 21) is disciplinary, not rejection. Paul’s allegory in Galatians 4 (“cast out the bondwoman and her son”) refers to the Judaizers’ attempt to force Gentile believers under the Sinai covenant and rabbinic conversion, not to Hagar/Ishmael being outside the Abrahamic covenant. Hegg insists Paul is using typology, not teaching that Ishmaelites are eternally excluded from YHVH’s promises.

Hegg’s Summary Statement (paraphrased from his Genesis teachings)

“Hagar and Ishmael are full members of the Abrahamic covenant through the sign of circumcision and direct divine promise. The distinction is not covenant vs. no covenant, but heir-of-promise (Isaac) vs. recipient-of-blessing (Ishmael). This is exactly why Paul can later say that Gentile believers are ‘children of Abraham’ by faith without having to become physical Jews — because Hagar and Ishmael already model that very reality in Genesis.”

In short: Hagar is not the villain or the outcast of the covenant story. She is the first named Gentile believer, the recipient of a unique revelation of God, and the mother of a circumcised covenant son who receives massive divine blessing — all while remaining distinctly non-Israelite. For Hegg, that makes her an essential foreshadowing of New-Covenant Gentile inclusion. Is 2:3,4

Example of Hagar and Sarah

Gal 4:21  Say to me, you who wish to be under Torah, do you not hear the Torah?

‘’According to Tim Hegg, being "under the Torah" means all believers (Jews and Gentiles) in Messiah Yeshua are covenant members with the same obligation to obey God's eternal Torah, seeing it as God's perfect guide for life, not abolished by Jesus but fulfilled in its true, loving intent, with the Spirit empowering believers to live it out as the evidence of being God's children, a contrast to the traditional Christian idea that "under the law" means condemnation. ‘’

Because there is no Greek word for “legalism”, often times Paul would have to use the phrase “works of the law” or even simply “law” in place of the idea of legalism. Legalism is any attempt by man to earn acceptance before YHVH by their own works.

“Under the Law” – What is the Meaning of this Critical Phrase

https://pathofobedience.com/topics/under-the-law/

Gal 4:22  For it has been written that Araham had two sons, one by a female servant, the other by a free woman.

Gal 4:23  But he who was of the female servant was born according to the flesh, and he of the free woman through promise.

Gal 4:24  This is allegorical, for these are the two covenants: one indeed from Mount Sinai which brings forth slavery, which is Haar,

An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or spiritual one.

Hegg insists that most Christians (and many Messianics) completely misread Paul’s allegory because they import later (church) theology instead of letting Paul define his own terms from the Torah itself

Gal 4:25  for this Haar is Mount Sinai in Araia, and corresponds to Yerushalayim which now is, and is in slavery with her children.

Gal 4:26  But the Yerushalayim above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Gal 4:27  For it has been written, “Rejoice, O barren, you who do not bear! Break forth and shout, you who do not have birth pains! For the deserted one has many more children than she who has a husband.” Isa_54:1

Gal 4:28  And we, brothers, as Yitsaq was, are children of promise.

Gal 4:29  But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him born according to the Spirit, so also now.

Gal 4:30  But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the female servant and her son, for the son of the female servant shall by no means be heir with the son of the free woman.” Gen_21:10

Gal 4:31  Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the female servant but of the free woman.

‘’The allegory is not ‘Hagar = Old Covenant, Sarah = New Covenant.’ It is not ‘Ishmael = all Arabs/Muslims, Isaac = all Jews/Christians.’ It is not teaching that the Torah or the Sinai covenant is slavery.

So, then what does this allegory mean?

‘’Religion by whatever name has brought a ‘’bareness’’ upon humanity and upon the earth’’

Our haftarah portion seems to connect to the above statement.

It is possible that we are already seeing the signs of a fruitful spiritual renewal movement outside of any formal religious institutions.

‘’Some believers hold eschatological views that include the possibility of significant numbers of Muslims coming to faith in Jesus as the Messiah during the "last days" or end times.

A key biblical passage often cited is Isaiah 19:18–25, which describes a future time when Egypt (a historically Muslim nation today) will turn to YHVH, build altars to Him, cry out for deliverance, and be healed by YHVH. The chapter ends with Egypt, Assyria (often linked to modern Iraq/Syria regions, also Muslim-majority), and Israel worshiping together, with YHVH calling Egypt "My people," Assyria "the work of My hands," and Israel "My inheritance." Some Messianic and evangelical teachers interpret this as a prophecy of spiritual revival and conversion in Muslim lands during the end times, leading to a "highway" of unity in worship of the true God through the Messiah.’’

There are Messianic believers (people who accept Yeshua/Jesus as the Messiah while often maintaining Jewish or contextual cultural practices) in several Arab countries today, including Gaza and the West bank in Israel, though they are small in number, often face significant persecution, and tend to keep a low profile for safety reasons.’’

Jas 1:25  But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom,d and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah

Paul’s allegory is laser-focused on the Galatian crisis:

·         Hagar represents the Sinai covenant as it was being misused and added to by the Judaizers in “present Jerusalem.”

·         Their demand that Gentiles must be circumcised and keep the whole rabbinic Torah to be justified turned Sinai into a system of slavery. (the rabbinic Torah and the Mosaic Torah are not always the same)

·         Therefore, Paul says, ‘Cast out this Hagar-and-her-son teaching!’ — meaning reject the idea that justification comes through proselyte conversion and works. We (all believers) are children of the free woman, Sarah — the Abrahamic covenant of promise received by faith alone.”

  Hegg Stresses

Gentile believers do NOT need to become proselytes (“son of Hagar/Sinai”) to be full members of the covenant. They are already children of Sarah, the free woman, through faith — exactly like Isaac. Once they are in by faith, they are free (and obligated) to obey Torah as beloved children, not as slaves trying to earn justification.

This is why Hegg says the common supersessionist or dispensational reading (“Hagar = Judaism/Torah, thrown away forever”) is the exact opposite of what Paul is arguing. Paul is defending Torah (properly understood) while rejecting the Judaizers’ addition of proselyte conversion to the gospel.

Gen 21:11  And the matter was very evil in the eyes of Araham because of his son.

Gen 21:12  But Elohim said to Araham, “Let it not be evil in your eyes because of the boy and because of your female servant. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice, for in Yitsaq your seed is called.

Gen 21:13  “And of the son of the female servant I also make a nation, because he is your seed.”

Gen 21:14  And Araham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, which he gave to Haar, putting it on her shoulder, also the boy, and sent her away. And she left and wandered in the Wilderness of Be’ěrshea.

Gen 21:15  And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs.

Gen 21:16  And she went and sat down about a bowshot away, for she said, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” And she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept.

Gen 21:17  And Elohim heard the voice of the boy, and the messenger of Elohim called to Haar from the heavens, and said to her, “What is the matter with you, Haar? Do not fear, for Elohim has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

Gen 21:18  “Arise, lift up the boy and hold him with your hand, for I make a great nation of him.”

Gen 21:19  And Elohim opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the boy a drink.

Gen 21:20  And Elohim was with the boy, and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

Gen 21:21  And he dwelt in the Wilderness of Paran, and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Mitsrayim.

A Treaty with Abimelech

Gen 21:22  And it came to be at that time that Aimele and Piol, the commander of his army, spoke to Araham, saying, “Elohim is with you in all that you do.

Gen 21:23  “And now, swear to me by Elohim, not to be untrue to me, to my offspring, or to my descendants. Do to me according to the loving-commitment that I have done to you and to the land in which you have dwelt.”

Gen 21:24  And Araham said, “I swear.”

Gen 21:25  And Araham reproved Aimele because of a well of water which Aimele’s servants had seized.

According to the Sages, Abraham would have been willing to share the water, but not to surrender ownership.

It is possible that the Philistines were subtly making a statement that salvation (water) does not come from your God but from ours.

The Midrash notes that when Abimelech eventually returns to make a treaty with Isaac, he admits, "We have indeed seen that God is with you" (Genesis 26:28). This serves as the ultimate conclusion to the conflict: the Philistines' attempt to claim their gods as the source of "water" failed, and they were forced to acknowledge that true "salvation" and blessing came from Isaac's God

Gen 21:26  And Aimele said, “I do not know who has done this deed. Neither did you inform me, nor did I hear until today.”

Gen 21:27  So Araham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Aimele, and the two of them made a covenant.

Gen 21:28  And Araham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

Gen 21:29  And Aimele asked Araham, “What are these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves?”

Gen 21:30  And he said, “Take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, to be my witness that I have dug this well.”

Gen 21:31  So he called that place Be’ěrshea, because the two of them swore an oath there.

Gen 21:32  Thus they made a covenant at Be’ěrshea. And Aimele rose with Piol, the commander of his army, and they returned to the land of the Philistines.

Gen 21:33  And he planted a tamarisk tree in Be’ěrshea, and there called on the Name of יהוה, the Everlasting Ěl.

Gen 21:34  And Araham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.

 The Wickedness of Judah

Isa 1:2  Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth! For יהוה has spoken, “I have reared and brought up children, but they have transgressed against Me.

Isa 1:3  An ox knows its owner and a donkey its master’s crib – Yisra’ěl does not know, My people have not understood.”

Isa 1:4  Alas, sinning nation, a people loaded with crookedness, a seed of evil-doers, sons acting corruptly! They have forsaken יהוה, they have provoked the Set-apart One of Yisra’ěl, they went backward.

Isa 1:5  Why should you be stricken any more? You continue in apostasy! All the head is sick, and all the heart faints.

Isa 1:6  From the sole of the foot, to the head, there is no soundness in it – wounds and bruises and open sores; they have not been closed or bound up, or soothed with ointment.

Isa 1:7  Your land is laid waste, your cities are burned with fire, strangers devour your land in your presence. And it is laid waste, as overthrown by strangers.

Isa 1:8  And the daughter of Tsiyon is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a hut in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

Isa 1:9  Unless יהוה of hosts had left to us a small remnant, we would have become like Seom, we would have been made like Amorah.

Isa 1:10  Hear the worda of יהוה, you rulers of Seom; give ear to the Toraha of our Elohim, you people of Amorah! Footnote: a“Word” and “Torah” (teaching) are used as synonyms.

Isa 1:11  “Of what use to Me are your many slaughterings?” declares יהוה. “I have had enough of ascending offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats.

Isa 1:12  “When you come to appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My courtyards?

Isa 1:13  “Stop bringing futile offerings, incense, it is an abomination to Me. New moons, Sabbaths, the calling of gatherings – I am unable to bear unrighteousness and assembly.

Isa 1:14  “My being hates your New moons and your appointed times, they are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.

Isa 1:15  “And when you spread out your hands, I hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I do not hear. Your hands have become filled with blood.

Isa 1:16  “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Stop doing evil!

Isa 1:17  “Learn to do good! Seek right-ruling, reprove the oppressor, defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Isa 1:18  "Come now, and let us reason together,” says יהוה. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isa 1:19  “If you submit and obey, you shall eat the good of the land;

Isa 1:20  but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword,” for the mouth of יהוה has spoken.

The Unfaithful City

Isa 1:21  How the steadfast city has become a whore! I have filled it with right-ruling; righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers.

Isa 1:22  Your silver has become dross, your wine is mixed with water.

Isa 1:23  Your rulers are stubborn, and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes, and runs after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow reach them.

Isa 1:24  Therefore the Master declares, יהוה of hosts, the Mighty One of Yisra’ěl, “Ah, I shall be eased of My adversaries, and I shall be avenged of My enemies.

Isa 1:25  “And I shall turn My hand against you, and shall refine your dross as with lye, and shall remove all your alloy.

Isa 1:26  “And I shall give back your judges as at the first, and your counsellors as at the beginning. After this you shall be called the city of righteousness, a steadfast city.”

Isa 1:27  Tsiyon shall be ransomed with right-ruling, and her returning ones with righteousness.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Additional Midrash and Bible study:

Genesis 17:19 & 21:12: YHVH confirms to Abraham, "In Isaac your seed shall be called," making Isaac the chosen line for the promise.

The question some ask is that how does one reconcile Isaac, which means laughter with Messiah who is called a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief – Is 53:3

Ancient sages generally teach that joy and sorrow, laughter and sadness are inseparable and impermanent aspects of the human condition, which must be acknowledged to achieve true wisdom or inner peace. They encourage finding balance and understanding their interconnectedness rather than seeking one while avoiding the other.

Ecc 7:3  Sorrow is better than laughter, for by the sadness of the face the heart becomes better.

The "better heart" (v. 3) The Hebrew phrase means the heart becomes more healed/mended/mature/substantial. Prolonged avoidance of pain tends to produce brittle, superficial people. Those who have been through deep sorrow (and processed it) are frequently more compassionate, more realistic, more patient, less easily shaken.

Ecc 7:4  The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of rejoicing. (Wise people naturally gravitate toward the serious; fools toward the perpetually festive)

The Preacher (Qoheleth) is not saying that mourning is inherently good or that laughter is inherently bad. He's making a comparative statement about what is ultimately more valuable for the human soul in this broken world.

The Preacher isn't calling everyone to be gloomy all the time. He's saying: Don't fear the serious seasons. Don't run from them. They are often doing deeper work in you than the happy seasons are.

‘’Ecclesiastes 7:2-4
is one of the most psychologically realistic and sobering passages in the entire Bible. It goes against almost every piece of conventional modern life advice ("live your best life," "stay positive," "choose joy," etc.), and yet many people who have lived long and/or suffered deeply quietly nod in agreement when they read it.

Luk 6:21  “Blessed are you who hunger now, because you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, because you shall laugh.’’

Parashat 4 Portion 16 ‘Va yera’’0 Gen 20:1-21:5 Is 65:2-66:5 +10-11 Jer 2:4-28 +4:1-2

Amein.

We continue this week in Parashat ‘’Vayera’’ or ‘’and He appeared’’ so far we have seen that YHVH appears to warn of coming judgment, that will come, however we also see that YHVH appears to save His people from judgment. This week we will see how YHVH intervenes and saves Abraham and Sarah from making a huge mistake.

This pattern of YHVH’s ‘’appearing’’ (Vayera) is the story of the journey of our lives.

וַיִּסַּע מִשָּׁם ‘’and he journeyed out from there’’ (‘’va yi as misham’’ in Hebrew)

‘’ nâsa‛ ‘’   A primitive root; properly to pull up, especially the tent pins, that is, start on a journey-  ‘’misham ‘’ ‘’From there’’ So, the journey continues.

The word misham ("from there") refers literally to Abraham's previous location near the oaks of Mamre/Hebron (from Genesis 18–19), after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Abraham and Abimelech

Gen 20:1 And Araham set out from there to the land of the South, and dwelt between Qaěsh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar.

The sages read בֵּין קָדֵשׁ וּבֵין שׁוּר וַיֵּשֶׁב בִּגְרָר (Gen. 20:1) as highly deliberate geography, not incidental detail. Geography in the Torah often reflects spiritual positioning.

Some Sages believe that Abraham and Sarah moved away from a very dangerous place to an even more dangerous place.

Kadesh-Barnea would become the place where Moshe was disqualified from entering the promised land. Num 20:1

Num 20:11  Then Mosheh lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod. And much water came out, and the congregation and their livestock drank.

Num 20:12  But יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon, “Because you did not believe Me, to set Me apart in the eyes of the children of Yisra’ěl, therefore you do not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

This incident at the rock in Numbers 20 occurred about 38–39 years after the Israelites left Egypt, just months before entering the Promised Land. (Moses almost made it into the promised)

By striking the rock again, Moses blurred the prophetic lesson that the Messiah would be struck only once, not twice. This action caused YHVH to be enraged with Moshe.

Psa 2:12  Kiss the Chosen,b lest He (YHVH) be enraged, And you perish in the way, For soon His wrath is to be kindled. Blessed are all those taking refuge in Him. Footnote: bHebrew, Nashqu ar. ar - Chosen in Hebrew but Son in Aramaic.

1Co 10:4  and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed, and the Rock was Messiah. 1Co 10:5  However, with most of them Elohim was not well pleased, for they were laid low in the wilderness.  1Co 10:11  And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come,

1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall.

Heb 6:4  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Set-apart Spirit,

Heb 6:5  and have tasted the good Word of Elohim and the powers of the age to come,

Heb 6:6  and fall away, to renew them again to repentance – having impaled for themselves the Son of Elohim again, and put Him to open shame.

How do we understand this? It requires an entire midrash. Let us try and explain briefly.

Heb 6:1  Therefore, having left the word of the beginning (ρχή (archḗ) or ‘’archives’’ or “ancient paths’’) of the Messiah, let us go on to perfection,a not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of belief toward Elohim, Footnote: a Mat_5:48

Heb 6:2  of the teaching of immersions, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of everlasting judgment.

Heb 6:3  And this we shall do, if Elohim indeed permits.

First of all the scripture never instructs us to make ‘’converts’’ to Yahshua but disciples –

“Go and make taught ones of all the nations” Mt 28:19

The church added the trinitarian heresy to this scripture - Mat 28:19  Therefore go and teach all nations, (baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,)

‘’Taught ones’’  are those who have submitted themselves to the whole counsel of YHVH’s word.

The church has misrepresented the Messiah because most believers rely on a ‘’conversion experience’’ sealed by a ‘’baptism’’ into the demonic doctrine of the trinity – instead of building their faith on the ρχή (archḗ) or “ancient paths’’ described in Heb 6:1-3.

When the storms come in the last days, it will be too late for many believers to start over again. (you cant impale Messiah twice)

Mat 7:24  “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does them, shall be like a wise man who built his house on the rock,

Mat 7:25  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Mat 7:26  “And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not do them,d shall be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand, Footnote: dSee Mat_7:15, and also Mat_13:41-42

Mat 7:27  and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and great was its fall.”

Abraham and Sarah almost do the same thing as Moses – after waiting so many years for the promised son, Abraham gives his wife Sarah to become one Avimelech’s wives. Imagine the consequences if Sarah had become pregnant through the seed of this Philistine king.

Shur- The Hebrew word Shur (שׁוּר) primarily means "wall" or "fortress," symbolizing protection, boundary, or enclosure.

Imagine what would have happened to Sarah if YHVH did not intervene and protect her?

Imagine what will happen to and time group of believers who are not protected by YHVH.

Rev 3:10  “Because you have guarded My Word of endurance, I also shall guard you from the hour of trial which shall come upon all the world, to try those who dwell on the earth.

“I will guard you from the hour of trial”—reflects a measure-for-measure (middah k’neged middah) principle common in rabbinic theology: In the measure you guarded My word, I will guard you or ‘’You guarded My word now I will guard you.”

In Christian theology, many believe that YHVH is obliged to guard us.

Gerar = “a lodging place” the verb ‘’garar’’ means ‘’chewing the cud’’ Gerar is therefore a place of serious contemplation.

For an end time generation this contemplation is about how was it possible that so many people on earth misunderstood and misrepresented the true Messiah. The single greatest tragedy of all time.

2Co 11:3  But I am afraid, lest, as the serpent deceived awwah by his trickery, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Messiah.

2Co 11:4  For, indeed, if he who is coming proclaims another יהושע,a whom we have not proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different Good News which you have not accepted, you put up with it well enough!

Gerar = a place of sojourning and subtle deception.
The name itself explains why Abraham is tested there—and why the sages see this episode as more complex than Sodom - it is a place that pulls the righteous into compromise if they are not vigilant.

Until we reach the ‘’8th day’’ the righteous will always live between two extremes – judgment and deliverance - the already and the not yet – what YHVH has done in our lives and what YHVH still needs to perfect in our lives. This ‘’transition space’’ is a very dangerous place.

Only the real Messiah can show us the way – only those who endure to the end will be saved. This statement of enduring to the end is repeated by the Messiah 7 times in the book of Revelation. (it appears from these warnings that many believers did not take Yahshua seriously)

Why is this transition the most dangerous place to be?

Because you might think you are right but in reality you are dead wrong.

Pro 14:12  There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Jer 17:9  “The heart is crooked (עקב) or deceitful above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it?

This is why we need to thoroughly know and build our lives on the Heb 6:1-3 foundation.

Paul had a profound insight into this tension between the ‘’already and not yet.’’

a)Rom 8:15  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption (past tense) by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Rom 8:22  For we know that all the creation groans together, and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. Rom 8:23  And not only so, but even we ourselves who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we ourselves also groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.

So, we have been adopted, but we are still waiting for the future completion and perfection of that adoption. Adoption is a process, a journey (nasa)

b) Eph 1:7  in whom we have redemption (present tense) through His blood, the forgiveness of trespasses, according to the riches of His favour, (redemption -the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.)

Eph 4:30  And do not grieve the Set-apart Spirit of Elohim, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (if you persistently grieve the Set Apart Spirit you can fail to reach your intended destination – this why we fear YHVH)

Heb 4:1  Therefore, since a promise remains of entering into His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

c) 1Co 1:2  to the assembly of Elohim which is at Corinth, to those who are set-apart (Gk hagiazō- past tense) in Messiah יהושע, called set-apart ones, with all those calling on the Name of יהושע Messiah our Master in every place, theirs and ours:

1Th 5:23  And the Elohim of peace Himself set you completely apart, and your entire spirit, and being, and body - be preserved blameless at the coming of our Master יהושע Messiah!

1Th 5:24  He who calls you is trustworthy, who also shall do it.

d) Eph 2:8  For by favour you have been saved,(past tense) through belief, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Elohim,

Rom 5:9  Much more then, having now been declared right by His blood, we shall be saved(future tense) from wrath through Him.

e) Eph 2:5  even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Messiah – by favour you have been saved – (resurrection now)

Eph 2:6  and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Messiah יהושע

1Co 15:32 .. If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.

We live in a theological tension. By faith in Messiah, all of these spiritual blessings are ours already, but the full enjoyment of these blessings is not yet ours. This is the life of faith: “the assurance of things hoped for” in the future, and “the conviction of things not seen” in the present (Hebrews 11:1). This is life between the times.

‘’If we don’t understand this mindset, the theological tension we live in will become a theological disaster. We will inevitably misread Scripture. And if we misread Scripture, we will live misled lives.’’

We need to read again and contemplate the seven messages that Yahshua gives to an end time group of believers in the book of Revelation.

2Co 5:21  For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of Elohim.

Some believers like to claim that they are already the righteousness of YHVH in Messiah, yet the plain text clearly states that we are becoming the righteousness of YHVH in Messiah.

This is the mystery of the Bride of Messiah she is in the state of ‘’niddah’’(unclean) for seven days. Lev 15:19 - “Unclean” does not mean sinful or morally wrong – it means we are trusting YHVH to complete the work that He has begun in us- Jud 1:24  And to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you blameless before the presence of His esteem with exceeding joy,

Jud 1:25  to the only wise Elohim, our Saviour, be esteem and greatness and might and authority, both now and forever. Aměn

Literal word order: “to the only Elohim (YHVH) Saviour of us’’ ‘’through Messiah’’ is added in some translations but it is not in the original manuscript.

I believe this the hidden message of this Torah portion and a key for us to be watchful in the last days and even during the millennial reign of Messiah.

Abraham and Sarah escaped the judgment of Sedom but faced and even greater danger in Gerar. They could of destroyed the future Messianic seed.

In our haftarah portion we are reminded that even during the  Millennium people can die before their time.

Isa 65:20  "No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; the one who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth, and the one who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed."

There is a journey of obedience and reliance that YHVH requires of us to reach our destiny that is not negotiable.

Gen 20:2  And Araham said concerning Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Aimele sovereign of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

This was partially true, as she was his niece (daughter of his brother Haran), but it was deceptive.

Rashi: The daughter of my father — Sarah was indeed Terah's granddaughter (via Haran), considered like a daughter in some contexts, but truly his brother's daughter.

Gen 20:3  But Elohim came to Aimele in a dream by night, and said to him, “See, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”

Gen 20:4  However, Aimele had not come near her, and he said, “יהוה, would You kill a righteous nation also?

Gen 20:5  “Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and in the innocence of my hands I have done this.”

Gen 20:6  And Elohim said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart, and so I kept you from sinning against Me. For this reason I did not let you touch her.

Gen 20:7  “And now, return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and let him pray for you and you live. But if you do not return her, know that you shall certainly die, you and all that are yours.”

This is the first appearance of the word "prophet" (navi) in the Torah, applied to Abraham.

‘’ Abraham being the first prophet mentioned underscores his pivotal role as the bridge from primordial humanity to the covenantal history of Hebrews—initiating ethical monotheism, prophetic intercession, and the covenantal relationship between YHVH and the Hebrews.’’

Gen 20:8  So Aimele rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and spoke all these words in their hearing. And the men were greatly frightened.

Gen 20:9  And Aimele called Araham and said to him, “What have you done to us? In what have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my reign a great sin? You have done matters to me that should not be done.”

Gen 20:10  And Aimele said to Araham, “What did you have in view, that you have done this matter?”

Gen 20:11  And Araham said, “Only because I said to myself, the fear of Elohim is not in this place, and they shall kill me for the sake of my wife.

Gen 20:12  “And yet, she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.

Gen 20:13  “And it came to be, when Elohim caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, ‘This is your loving-commitment that you should do for me: in every place, wherever we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’ ”

“There is a terrible meaning in this verb wander (Heb ‘’ta ah’’)which Abraham uses. The Hebrew word occurs exactly fifty times in Scripture and never in a good sense. It is used of animals going astray, of a drunken man reeling, or staggering, of sinful seduction, of a prophet’s lies causing the people to err, of the path of a lying heart. Six other words are translated wander, any one of which Abraham might have used, but he used the worst word available.” (Barnhouse)

“Abraham should have said: ‘Forgive me, Abimelech, for dishonouring both you and my Elohim. My selfish cowardice overwhelmed me, and I denied my Elohim by fearing that He who called me could not take care of me. He is not as your gods of wood and stone. He is the Elohim of esteem. He is the living El, the Creator, the most High El, possessor of heaven and earth. He told me He would be my shield and my exceeding great reward, and supplier of all my needs… In sinning against Him, I sinned against you. Forgive me, Abimelech.’” (Barnhouse)

Gen 20:14  Then Aimele took sheep, and cattle, and male and female servants, and gave them to Araham. And he returned Sarah his wife to him.

Gen 20:15  And Aimele said, “See, my land is before you, dwell wherever it is good in your eyes.”

Gen 20:16  And to Sarah he said, “See, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. See, it is to you a covering of eyes before all who are with you and before all others, and you are cleared before everyone.”

Gen 20:17  And Araham prayed to Elohim, and Elohim healed Aimele, and his wife, and his female servants, so they bore children,

Gen 20:18  for יהוה had closed up all the wombs of the house of Aimele because of Sarah, Araham’s wife.

The Birth of Isaac

Gen 21:1  And יהוה visited Sarah as He had said, and יהוה did for Sarah as He had spoken.

Act 14:22  strengthening the beings of the taught ones, encouraging them to continue in the belief, and that through many pressures(Gk ‘’thlipsis’’) we have to enter the reign of Elohim.

‘’Thlipsis’’ anguish, burdened, persecution, tribulation, trouble.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

Testing of Your Faith –

Luk 21:36  “Watch then at all times, and pray that you be counted worthy to escape all this about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Aam.”

Jas 1:2  My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

Jas 1:3  knowing that the proving of your belief works endurance.

Jas 1:4  And let endurance have a perfect work, so that you be perfect and complete, lacking in naught.

Jas 1:12  Blessed is the man who does endure trial, for when he has been proved, he shall receive the crown of life which the Master has promised to those who love Him.

1Pe 1:5  who are protected by the power of Elohim through belief, for a deliverance ready to be revealed in the last time,

1Pe 1:6  in which you exult, even though for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by manifold trials,

1Pe 1:7  in order that the proving of your belief – much more precious than gold that perishes, and proven by fire – might be found to result in praise and respect and esteem at the revelation of יהושע Messiah,

1Pe 4:12  Beloved ones, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that is coming upon you, to try you, as though some unusual matter has befallen you,

1Pe 4:13  but as you share Messiah’s sufferings, rejoice, in order that you might rejoice exultingly at the revelation of His esteem.

1Co 10:13  No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, and Elohim is trustworthy, who shall not allow you to be tried beyond what you are able, but with the trial shall also make the way of escape, enabling you to bear it

Rom 5:3  And not only this, but we also exult in pressures, knowing that pressure works endurance;

Rom 5:4  and endurance, approvedness; and approvedness, expectation.

Rom 5:5  And expectation does not disappoint, because the love of Elohim has been poured out in our hearts by the Set-apart Spirit which was given to us.

Rev 2:10  “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. See, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, in order to try you, and you shall have pressure ten days. Be trustworthy until death, and I shall give you the crown of life.

Num 14:22  for none of these men who have seen My esteem and the signs which I did in Mitsrayim and in the wilderness, and have tried (נסה) Me now these ten times, and have disobeyed My voice,

Num 14:23  shall see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor any of those who scorned Me see it. (Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers 5:6 – gives the list)

Parashat 4 Portion 15 ‘Va yera’’ Gen 19:1-38 Jud 19:16-24 +20:27 Jer 1:1-2:3

Psa 119:18/19  Please open our eyes YHVH that we might see hidden and wonderful truths in Your Torah. Father we are strangers and sojourners here on earth, please do not hide the council of your Torah from us.

Blessed are those to whom You have shown mercy to walk in Your Torah of truth in loving kindness and obedience. Amein.

ויבאו שׁני

The ancient Jewish sages gave us a unique way in understanding the Torah – the Torah portions or ‘parashiyot’’ and also a method of interpretation they described as ‘’PARDES’’

PaRDeS is a Hebrew acronym (פרד״ס) that describes four levels of interpreting scripture:

P — Peshat (פשט)

Literal / simple meaning.
The straightforward, plain-sense understanding of the text.

R — Remez (רמז)

Hinted meaning.
Interpretations that read the verses for symbolic or allegorical clues beyond the literal level.

D — Derash (דרש)

It is about explaining the true meaning of a text. Homiletical / interpretive meaning - from Hebrew darash: "inquire" ("seek") – the comparative (midrashic) meaning, as given through similar occurrences.

Expansive explanations found in Midrash and rabbinic commentary, often extracting ethical or legal teachings

S — Sod (סוד)

‘’sod" means foundation. Foundations are usually hidden or ‘’secret" ("mystery") or the esoteric/mystical meaning, as given through inspiration or revelation

Together, PaRDeS represents a multi-layered approach to Torah learning, from literal to mystical.

Then certain scribes added short phrases(key words) at the beginning of each of the Torah portions in the 42 month ‘’parashiyot’’ for example, this week’s Torah portion- ויבאו שׁני

ויבאו שׁני (the Scribe who titled this portion with these two words in ‘’hinting’’ at something more profound)

"and there came two …..’’ We continue with parashat ‘’Vayera’’ – Here we see that YHVH confirms His coming judgment with two witnesses.

(Sod- deeper revelation) This same pattern is repeated in the last days, during the great tribulation or final three and a half years of this age – ‘’olam ha ze’’

(Midrash on the deeper revelation) Rev 11:3  “And I shall give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clad in sackcloth.”

Rev 11:6  These possess authority to shut the heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy. (see 1 Kings 17&18 James 5:17) And they possess authority over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they wish.

Rev 11:8  and their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Seom and Mitsrayim, where also our Master was impaled,

Rev 12 YHVH removes a faithful remnant (not the rapture)

Rev 11:15 at the sound of the seventh trumpet the first resurrection will take place.

Rev 16 after the seventh trumpet - 7 Bowls of wrath of final judgment on this age.

This Torah portion is pregnant with meaning – we compare the Torah to a woman who is about to give birth.

“The Torah is compared to a woman who is in hard labour. As long as the child is inside her, she suffers greatly, but when the child comes out to the world — joy for all! So too the Holy One, blessed be He, had ‘suffering’ (so to speak) until the Torah came down to the lower worlds… and when it descended, there was joy above and below.” ‘’Zohar III, 44b’’

Rev 12:1  And a great sign was seen in the heaven: a woman clad with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Rev 12:2  And being pregnant, she cried out in labour and in pain to give birth. (describing an end time remnant)

“The Torah is called a Tree of Life (Prov 3:18) because just as a tree grows from the earth upward toward heaven, so the Torah elevates a person from the physical to the divine – and simultaneously brings heaven down into the physical world.” ‘’Rebbe’’

YHVH Rescues Lot

Gen 19:1  And the two messengers came (ויבאו שׁני) to Seom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Seom. And when Lot saw them, he rose up to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground,

The Hebrew name לוֹט (Lô) is likely connected to the root לָאַט (lāʾa), which means "to cover," "to hide," or "to wrap closely".

The name Lot ("covered," "hidden," "clinging") functions almost like dark biblical wordplay in Genesis 19:

·         He clings to the world instead of separating from it.

·         His family is "covered" in judgment (wife → salt).

·         He ends his life hidden in a cave, covered in disgrace.

So, while the name itself is neutral, in the context of Genesis 19 it becomes a sad and ironic commentary on Lot’s life: the "righteous man" who kept clinging to the wrong things and ended up spiritually and morally covered in shame.

This is the story of the modern-day church’s decline. Mega churches especially are experiencing massive decline. (do a search on You tube)

Luk 18:8  “... But when the Son of Aam comes, shall He find the belief  (τν πίστιν)on the earth?”

According to Paul Eph 4:5 there is only ‘’one faith’’ Paul was as bold as to say that if anyone preached a different good news than the one he had given them they would be cursed Gal 1:8,9.

Paul also never ‘’did away’’ with the Torah -  Act 24:14  “And this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the Elohim of my fathers, Exo_3:15 believing all that has been written in the Torah and in the Prophets,

These truths terrify me. Am I preaching another gospel? How do I know that I am not deceived or even worse deceiving others? Maybe Yahshua gives us the answer?

Mat 5:17  “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets.e I did not come to destroy but to complete. Footnote: eThe Law and the Prophets is a term used for the pre-Messianic Scriptures.

Mat 5:18  “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one yod or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.f Footnote: f Luk_16:17

Mat 5:19  “Whoever, then, breaks one of the least of these commands, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the reign of the heavens; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the reign of the heavens.

Jas 2:10  For whoever shall guard all the Torah, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.

Although Lot is called "righteous" (2 Peter 2:7–8), Lot had slowly compromised by living in Sodom, pitching his tent toward it (Gen 13), then fully moving into the city and sitting in its gate (position of honour). His soul was tormented, but he stayed — he was "clung" to the world.

2Pe 2:7  and rescued righteous Lot, who was oppressed with the indecent behaviour of the lawlessc Footnote: cThe Greek word here, and in 2Pe_3:17, is athesmos (not the usual one, anomos) but it also means “lawless.”

2Pe 2:8  (for day after day that righteous man, dwelling among them, tortured his righteous being by seeing and hearing their lawless works), 2 Cor 6:17,18

18 Forbidden Secrets of SODOM: What Really Happened There (27 min)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSOVpi92UWc

Archaeological records uncover in detail of what really happened in Sedom.

Mat 10:14  “And whoever does not receive you nor hear your words, when you leave that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

Mat 10:15  “Truly, I say to you, it shall be more bearable for the land of Seom and Amorah in the day of judgment than for that city!

Mat 11:23  “And you, Kephar Naum, who were exalted to the heaven, shall be brought down to She’ol!b Isa_14:13 and Isa_14:15. Because if the miracles which were done in you had been done in Seom, it would have remained until this day. Footnote: bSee Explanatory Notes - She’ol. Mat 11:24  “But I say to you that it shall be more bearable for the land of Seom in the day of judgment than for you.”

Gen 19:2  and he said, “Look, please my masters, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet, and rise early and go your way.” And they said, “No, but let us spend the night in the open square.”

Gen 19:3  But he urged them strongly, and they turned in to him and came into his house. And he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

Gen 19:4  Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Seom, both old and young, all the people from every part, surrounded the house.

Gen 19:5  And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, and let us ‘know’ them.” (have sex with them)

Gen 19:6  So Lot went out to them through the doorway, and shut the door behind him,

Gen 19:7  and said, “Please, my brothers, do not do evil!

Gen 19:8  “Look, please, I have two daughters who have not known a man. Please, let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you wish, only do no deed to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

The Scriptures records the statement not to justify Lot, but to expose how deeply sin had corrupted even the one person in the city who was supposed to be different. That is why 2 Peter 2:7–8 still calls him “righteous Lot” (because he was grieved by the evil), yet the Genesis narrative itself shows how compromised and broken that “righteousness” had become. 2Cor 6:17,18

This possibly explains the fate of those believers who must endure the great tribulation.

Despite this reality of certain judgment, even on believers, Yahshua says in his letter to the Philadelphian assembly, that some believers will be spared from this fate:

Rev 3:10  “Because you have guarded My Word of endurance, I also shall guard you from the hour of trial which shall come upon all the world, to try those who dwell on the earth.

Maybe, Noah was an example of escaping judgment under YHVH’s protection.

Rev 12:17  And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to fight with the remnant of her seed, those guarding the commands of Elohim and possessing the witness of יהושע Messiah.

Luk 21:36  “Watch then at all times, and pray that you be counted worthy to escape all this about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Aam.”

Maybe, the above verse refers to Lot. There seems to be two different groups of believers guarding the Torah  in Rev 12 -  a Noah group that are protected and a Lot group that suffers great harm.

Dan 11:33  “And those of the people who have insight shall give understanding to many. And they shall stumble by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering, for days.

Dan 11:34  “And when they stumble, they shall be helped, a little help, but many shall join them, by flatteries.

“When they stumble”
Refers to faithful people(Lot) who face hardship, persecution, or setbacks during turbulent times.

“But many shall join them with flatteries”
Suggests that opportunists will attach themselves to the cause, not out of genuine conviction, but out of self-interest.

Dan 11:35  “And some of those who have insight shall stumble, to refine them, and to cleanse them, and to make them white, until the time of the end, for it is still for an appointed time.

Gen 19:9  But they said, “Stand back!” And they said, “This one came in to sojourn, and should he always judge? Now we are going to treat you worse than them.” So, they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.

Gen 19:10  But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them and shut the door.

Gen 19:11  Then they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, and they wearied themselves to find the door.

Gen 19:12  And the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? A son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whomever you have in the city – bring them out of this place!

Gen 19:13  “For we are going to destroy this place, because the cry against them has grown great before the face of יהוה, and יהוה has sent us to destroy it.”

Gen 19:14  And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place, for יהוה is going to destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be as one joking.

Gen 19:15  And when morning dawned, the messengers urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Get up, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.”

Gen 19:16  And while he loitered,( ויתמהמה) the men took hold of his hand, and his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, יהוה having compassion on him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.

Gen 19:17  And it came to be, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed.”

Gen 19:18  And Lot said to them, “Oh no, יהוה

Gen 19:19  “Look, please, your servant has found favour in your eyes, and you have increased your loving-commitment which you have shown me by saving my life, but I am unable to escape to the mountains, lest calamity overtake me and I die.

Gen 19:20  “Look, please, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is small. Please let me escape there – is it not a small matter – and let my life be saved?”

Gen 19:21  And He said to him, “Look, I have favoured you concerning this matter also, without overthrowing this city for which you have spoken.

Gen 19:22  “Hurry, escape there. For I am not able to do any deed until you arrive there.” So, the name of the city was called Tso‛ar. (Heb – insignificant)

“But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Matthew 24:37–39, KJV)

And in Luke it adds the example of Sodom:

“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17:28–30)

Life will appear to go on as usual—business, pleasure, relationships, routines—while most of the world is completely unprepared for the catastrophic divine intervention that is coming

Scripture explicitly teaches that even during the Great Tribulation period, large parts of humanity will still be carrying on with “normal” life—eating, drinking, marrying, buying, selling—until destruction falls suddenly, “like a thief in the night” for the unprepared (1 Thess 5:2–3) or as labor pains upon a woman with child.

If Rev 16 is literally fulfilled, the bowl sequence would literally threaten the extinction of all human life (“no flesh would be saved/alive”). Massive oceans of blood, no drinkable water anywhere, scorching heat, total darkness, catastrophic earthquakes, and city-sized hailstones would make human survival impossible within days or weeks unless God supernaturally intervenes and cuts it short.

That matches exactly what Jesus described in Matthew 24:21–22: a tribulation so intense that, without divine shortening, no flesh would survive.

YHVH Destroys Sodom – these are possibly the Rev 16 bowls of wrath judgments.

Revelation 16 – the seven bowl (vial) judgments These are the final, rapid-fire, universal judgments poured out right at the end of the 7-year Tribulation, just before the return of Messiah in Revelation 19.

Especially notice these bowls:

·         1st bowl: Loathsome sores on those who took the mark (global)

·         2nd–3rd bowls: Every sea and every freshwater source turned to blood (global)

·         4th bowl: Sun scorches men with fire (global)

·         5th bowl: Kingdom plunged into darkness + unbearable pain

·         6th bowl: Euphrates dried up, armies gathered to Armageddon

·         7th bowl: Greatest earthquake in history + 100-pound hailstones + islands and mountains disappear

Gen 19:23  The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Tso‛ar.

Gen 19:24  And יהוה rained sulphur and fire on Seom and Amorah, from יהוה out of the heavens.

Gen 19:25  So He overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

Gen 19:26  But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a post of salt.

Gen 19:27  And Araham arose early in the morning and went to the place where he had stood before יהוה

Gen 19:28  and he looked toward Seom and Amorah, and toward all the land of the plain. And he looked and saw the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace.

Gen 19:29  Thus it came to be, when Elohim destroyed the cities of the plain, that Elohim remembered Araham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.

Lot and His Daughters

Gen 19:30  And Lot went up out of Tso‛ar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him, for he was afraid to dwell in Tso‛ar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.

Gen 19:31  And the first-born said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us, as is the way of all the earth.

Gen 19:32  "Come, let us make our father drink wine and lie with him, so that we preserve the seed of our father.”

Gen 19:33  So they made their father drink wine that night. And the first-born went in and lay with her father, and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

Gen 19:34  And it came to be on the next day that the first-born said to the younger, “See, I lay with my father last night. Let us make him drink wine tonight as well, and you go in and lie with him, so that we keep the seed of our father.”

Gen 19:35  So they made their father drink wine that night as well. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose.

Gen 19:36  Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father.

Gen 19:37  And the first-born bore a son and called his name Mo’a, he is the father of the Mo’aites to this day.

Gen 19:38  And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi, he is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.

Genesis Rabbah 51:8-9), there is a significant rabbinic interpretation that Lot had some limited awareness during the events with his daughters (Genesis 19:30-38), particularly after the first night.

The plain text of the Torah states in Genesis 19:33 (regarding the elder daughter): "And he did not know when she lay down or when she rose" (וְהוּא לֹא־יָדַע בְּשִׁכְבָהּ וּבְקוּמָהּ). A similar phrase appears in 19:35 for the younger daughter, but the Masoretic text places extraordinary dots (puncta extraordinaria) over the words "and when she rose" (וּבְקוּמָהּ) in verse 33.

The Midrash in Genesis Rabbah interprets these dots (over the ‘’vav’s) as a deliberate textual hint to cast doubt on the extent of Lot's ignorance. (a ‘’vav’’ is a conjunction or joining word – Lot ‘’joined’’ himself in sexual incest to both his daughters)

1Co 10:11  And all these came upon them as examples, and they were written as a warning to us, on whom the ends of the ages have come, 1Co 10:12  so that he who thinks he stands, let him take heed lest he fall. 1Co 10:13  No trial has overtaken you except such as is common to man, and Elohim is trustworthy, who shall not allow you to be tried beyond what you are able, but with the trial shall also make the way of escape, enabling you to bear it. 1Cor 10:14 Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

Olam Ha-Zeh (This World) and Olam Ha-Ba (The World to Come) are core Hebraic concepts contrasting our current physical life with the spiritual afterlife or Messianic era, where YHVH's presence is fully revealed, with Olam Ha-Zeh serving as a preparation for the spiritual blessings of Olam Ha-Ba, often described as a banquet hall of eternal rewards.

Blessed are you YHVH, our Elohim, King of the Universe, you have given us your Torah of truth and have planted everlasting life within our midst. Blessed are you, YHVH giver of the Torah – Amein.

The Day of the Lord Will Come (how)

2Pe 3:1  This is now, beloved ones, the second letter I write to you, in which I stir up your sincere mind, to remember

2Pe 3:2  the words previously spoken by the set-apart prophets, and of the command of the Master and Saviour, spoken by your emissaries,

2Pe 3:3  knowing this first: that mockers shall come in the last days with mocking, walking according to their own lusts,

2Pe 3:4  and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all continues as from the beginning of creation.”

2Pe 3:5  For they choose to have this hidden from them: that the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by the Word of Elohim,a Footnote: a Heb_11:3

2Pe 3:6  through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.

2Pe 3:7  And the present heavens and the earth are treasured up by the same Word, being kept for fire, to a day of judgment and destruction of wicked men.

2Pe 3:8  But, beloved ones, let not this one matter be hidden from you: that with יהוה one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. Psa_90:4

2Pe 3:9  יהוה is not slow in regard to the promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward us, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.b Footnote: b 1Ti_2:4

2Pe 3:10  But the day of יהוה shall come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

2Pe 3:11  Seeing all these are to be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be in set-apart behaviour and reverence,

2Pe 3:12  looking for and hastening the coming of the day of Elohim, through which the heavens shall be destroyed, being set on fire, and the elements melt with intense heat!

2Pe 3:13  But according to His promise we wait for a renewed heavens and a renewed earth Isa_65:17, Isa_66:22 in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

2Pe 3:14  So then, beloved ones, looking forward to this, do your utmost to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless,

2Pe 3:15  and reckon the patience of our Master as deliverance, as also our beloved brother Sha’ul wrote to you, according to the wisdom given to him,

2Pe 3:16  as also in all his letters, speaking in them concerning these matters, in which some are hard to understand,c which those who are untaught and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do also the other Scriptures. Footnote: cSee 2Co_11:6

2Pe 3:17  You, then, beloved ones, being forewarned, watch, lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the delusion of the lawless, (Torahlessness)

2Pe 3:18  but grow in the favour and knowledge of our Master and Saviour יהושע Messiah. To Him be the esteem both now and to a day that abides. Aměn.
